The VCB (Viking Chilli Bowl) has been around for years and is one of the staple breakfast places my family always ate when I was a kid. I still go back from time to time for some non-trendy mid-west diner food. Their eggs, pancakes, and ham are all excellent. No so much the biscuits and gravy. Dry, and not flavorful at all. Oddly for a place with Chilli in the name, their chilli isn't that great. Decor is what you'd expect from a diner. Lots of pastel blues and pinks, roomy booths, tables down the middle. Service has always been fast and friendly. This is a great place for inexpensive breakfast food served diner style. There's something to be said for that in my opinion.

I went here with some family and had the chili omelette for breakfast. It was exactly what I imagined and SO good. I'll definitely have it again if I'm ever in the area!

This is a typical midwestern family dinner. I like places like this, but not this one so much. It offers detailed breakfast and lunch/dinner menus. The chili was decent but nothing special. The deep fried mushrooms were homemade, which was impressive, but they were a bit overcooked and served without any sauce of any kind. The reuben was pretty good and the fries were just okay. The service was friendly, but didn't keep the water or drinks refilled. I'll try it again, but this was a below average experience.

Nothing special here. Drive a little farther west on US 30 and go to Suzie's.

I don't think the food here could be called decent. I find it amusing that the point of comparison of two reviews for the VCB is McDonalds. That says it all!

Any restaurant named after the school mascot is promised success. Great food, typical old-people-friendly atmosphere, but great food. They do the classics right!

We were on the road and stopped at Viking chili bowl because we couldn't find a fast food place open. The food was fresh, hot and fast and the service was friendly. Real friendly with lots of local customers greater by name including one named Norman. Restaurant and bathrooms were immaculate. Portions were large but they had a kid's and senior menu. Lunch included gyros. Valparaiso has a Greek festival mid-June so these could be good. Ham was good with breakfast.

I go here every Sunday as do hundreds of residents. The food is good, service is fast and attentive and you got a lot of bang for your buck. It's a local restaurant and you're sure to find something on the menu that you'll like. I'd never choose McDonald's over Chili Bowl.

Down to earth family friendly restaurant offering breakfast and lunch comfort food in large portions. Additionally, senior citizens' offering are available (smaller portions). Food was hot, fresh and the buttermilk pancakes are scrumptious. Serving portion is very large so be hungry otherwise you will be taking some food home. Wait staff is consistently friendly and always ready to bring that refill on your coffee or beverage.

I've been hitting up the viking for a long time. We go there for lunch all the time when we work in valpo. The food is good. There's rarely a wait to get in. Prices are very reasonable. The service is really good too. They have a lot of selection on the menu.

I've been coming here for, like, my entire life. My parents had joint custody and every weekend that I spent at my Dad's house in Valpo involved a trip to the Viking. So I have lots of good memories and nostalgia associated with this establishment. Quintessential greasy spoon. They don't even make them like this back in Cali. The Viking special (which my dad always gets) is generous in portion, bacon, pancakes, the whole 9 yards. Good service too!

Do you want diner food? Do you want eggs and bacon? Do you want simple and easy and cheap? Do you want pancakes? Then go here. It isn't fancy. It's not fussy. It's just a good diner with friendly servers and good food.

A group of friends and myself went here for brunch. The ambiance wasn't the restaurants strong point and not what we were expecting given the "Viking" in the name. I was expecting wood or stone walls, dead animal heads, weapons, and tapestries decorating the walls... no, none of that at all (although they do have a couple of Troll statues near the entrance). The decor is pretty much your boring diner look. Okay, but nothing special. The food could be described the same way, standard diner fare that is okay but nothing real special. I had the Viking breakfast and a bowl of their chili. The chili was decent, but nothing special. The breakfast, which had pancakes, toast, biscuits and gravy, and eggs was pretty good and I enjoyed it. My friends seemed to enjoy the food as well and though they were getting ready to stop offering Belgian waffles (which they stop after noon), they made some for one of my friends. Another friend said that their chili omelette was really good as well. So all in all, a pretty good place to eat if you are in the area getting ready to go to the mini-golf/funland that is nearby.

if the special is steak & eggs, it should be descent. I guess it was my mistake for ordering it, but hey, how was I supposed to know my steak would be half fat & cut ridiculously thin, I guess maybe thats why it wasnt cooked the way I ordered it... but I mean... even I can cook a steak. if you have bad quality steak & can't cook it correctly, please don't even have it as an option... I shouldn't have to pay to be disappointed.
