If you find yourself in downtown Union City, you need to start paying closer attention to your GPS. If you happen to drive through here when you are hungry, you need to go to Taqueria Luz Tacos to change that. It's not too hard of a place to miss, since the colors of the Mexican flag are prominent on a street with store fronts that are fairly plain. There was plenty of parking on the street in front of the restaurant at 6:30 on a Saturday night, and I think that is likely the case at any time of day. When you walk in, you'll first notice a market area where they sell a variety of Mexican groceries as well as produce, standard store items, and quite a few odds items that I wouldn't have expected to see. They have a pretty impressive selection of Mexican sodas and other drinks in their refrigerator. If you keep walking past the market, you will find the kitchen and some more seating for the restaurant section of the business. For the occasion that brought me here, the group rented out the large room in the back that probably had seating for over 100 people. If you are looking for a space to host a crowd, this is definitely something I would recommend looking into. The price to rent the room was much cheaper than we expected, the space was already all set up with table and chairs, they let us in early to decorate, they have a large speaker system that they let you use along with a projector and screen, and there is ample open space that is perfect for games, dancing, or whatever else you want to use it for. I probably sampled way more food than I should have, but it was all so good. We started off with chips and salsa, for which they bring out both a green and red salsa that were both delicious. I thought the green one packed a little bit of a punch. The chips were thick and crisp, and they kept the baskets full. We also got a couple orders of queso which come in generous portions that have plenty to use both for your chips and to coat your main dish with. The menu is pretty standard tex mex options, including but not limited to burritos, sopes, tortas, tacos, quesadillas, and a variety of sides. I got a Super Burrito because let's be honest, how often can you pass up something with "super" in the title. It came out very quickly and did not disappoint. It was massive and delicious. The huge tortilla was stuffed full, and I coated it with salsa and some queso to put it over the top. I think it was a $5 burrito that easily could have fed someone with self control for two meals. The tacos and quesadillas that other people ordered got plenty of praise as well, and everything was just so cheap that we all ate too much. The drink options were also very easy on the wallet, as bottles of standard beers were $2 and some of their better options topped out at $3 a bottle. You could get them by the bottle or get a convenient bucket that came with your beers buried in ice so they would stay ice cold until you wanted another. They even brought out their Mexican varieties with limes in them to give them that refreshing twist that everyone has grown to expect with that type. The thing that would put this into the 5 star category for me even if the value wasn't so fantastic is how amazingly accommodating they were for us. The lady who owns the place stayed late so we could keep partying and was super nice the entire night and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we could possibly need. She even told us numerous times not to worry about turning up the music and enjoying ourselves. She was also the one who let us come in early to get our stuff set up before the rest of the crowd, and she and her staff were out constantly making sure we had all the food and drinks we could want. It's refreshing to meet a business owner who is so into customer service and genuinely wants to make her customers happy. I think it has a lot to do with the small town setting, but it's certainly a different style than I am used to seeing in Indy. I would definitely visit here again, even if I wasn't looking for a cheap and quick place to get a lot of food. They have a lot of menu items that I didn't get to try that I would love to order. It's also a place I wouldn't hesitate to book for a larger event if I was ever needed to host one in the Union City area.
Love the super burritos - chicken or steak. For only $5.00, you get a burrito that is a full meal. I need to break out of my normal routine and try other menu items.
The five stars are for the food. I am still thinking about the chicken super burrito I had there yesterday. Really liked the flavor of the grilled chicken and the rice that was inside. Beats the hell out of qdoba or chipotle. Burrito was about the same size as those establishment's. Not sure when I will be back to Union City, but when I am, I will be heading here. As others have said, it's a dive. Small supermaket in the front and the restaurant in the back. My co-worker had the chicken quesidilla and also liked it a lot. Both entrees were straight up $5 apiece.

I was in Union City to photograph a cross country conference meet and I stopped at this McDonald's store, as there are limited fast food places, or restaurants of any kind in the town. First off, the rest room was reasonably clean. I couldn't give it 100 %, and the door handle was broken, as was the lock on the stall, but they had a sliding lock for the stall. In and out of the restroom, I had to dance around someone sweeping the floor. She didn't say anything but she was aware and quick to move. That's surprising when I consider other fast food places (including McDonald's locations) where they seem to think that the customer is in the way. This same crew member took my order and got it back to me quickly. Since it was around 3:00 in the afternoon, the sandwich and fries were fresh and hot, rare for McDonald's who seem to stack everything in the grill area waiting for customers. The location was about as good as it could be. Union City is bisected by the state line and the railroad tracks were just north of the store. Since it's close to downtown, the view was somewhat scenic and pleasant and the town has taken the time to put a bike trail near the railroad tracks, which should bring more visitors. There seemed to be a number of regulars from the town. Good service is hard to find, and it looks as though McDonald's has it covered there.

They have an open sign but that doesn't mean anything! Stood in line for 5 mins only for some goofy looking kid with pink hair and crazy earrings to come out and say that he had put everything away and they were closed. Clearly don't need my business and I highly suggest everyone else save their time and find somewhere else to eat!
