We stopped in for an early dinner today & it wasn't crowded. We ordered a Fried Green Tomato appetizer which was crispy & delish. I had the Baked Potato Soup with the Bacon Macaroni & Cheese. My husband ordered a BBQ Steak that was surprisingly small, but everything was hot, fresh & tasted great.

This is our go-to steakhouse in the area. I was pleasantly surprised on my first trip here, we didn't have these local in Michigan so Outback was our choice as a comparison restaurant and Longhorn's is superior. The food is consistent and the service is wonderful, no matter who our server is. Also, the managers are super friendly and stop to chat with the customers and are genuinely interested that you are satisfied. My boyfriend and I typically get steaks and only once did we have to ask that one be cooked more to the temperature he originally requested and the request was handled promptly and with a smile. I have never been a steak sauce girl but they offer this homemade version that they make at your table and heat it up, with spice optional on the side. I highly recommend it, very flavorful and a nice addition.

The steak was good but one of us ordered medium and it turned out more well done. The nice thing is that they come out and ask you to check your steak before they leave the table after bringing the steak out. That way they can make adjustments or replacements.

My boyfriend and I went here since it was the most decent restaurant nearby. We checked out the reviews and most of them were about how it smelled like smoke, which almost wanted me to eat somewhere else. This was true, even for the smoke-free area! However, the food was delicious! We ordered the sourthwest fries, and two chicken dishes which was juicy. Too bad it's a little pricey but it's worth going there at least once in your life.

Good place for steaks. Service was very attentive, I would rate this place slightly better than outback. The meat quality seems to be better than most of the other restaurants in it's class

Why didn't I read the reviews...I didn't realize smoking indoors was permitted in Indiana. Gross. Regardless, service is mediocre, wine is stale, salad was drenched in dressing to the point it was inedible (practically soup), and it took forEVER to get the entree, which was over salted. My fault for craving steak and stopping in. I would rather eat a bag of chips or starve next time till I get to my destination than stop here ever again.

I think this kind of restaurant is just not my cup of tea. I don't eat much meat so when I do, I want it to be really good. This was not really good, just OK, and not worth it to me. We waited for a very long time to get the food and when we did the (extra salty) mashed potatoes had a crust on them and my husband and I placed bets on how long they had been sitting under the heat lamp... In their defense, I didn't say anything to the waitress b/c we were on our way to MI for the weekend and had already been at the restaurant for about 45 minutes, I didn't want to wait even longer for fresh mashed potatoes that weren't that great to begin with. The meat dish I had was just OK and looked a lot better in the menu pic than in real life. One of the more annoying things was that we had to flag down the waitress to get our bill even though our plates were empty and we had already declined the offer of dessert... I won't be going back.

Here in the area for travel, couldn't find a good local place and was just looking for a consistent restaurant experience (that's whats so great about name brand franchises). So, similiar to an Outback level of quality and service. Food quality was expected, steak was cooked correctly (as medium rare should be) and waitstaff very accommodating and professional. Didn't know IN allows smoking in their restaurants so didn't get to experience the bar. In short, not a place I would go out of my way to visit but would definitely keep them on the repeat list.

Very disappointed. Server was very nice, however the food was possibly the worst meal I have ever had. I have eaten at other locations and been satisfied, this location I was not at all impressed with. Again, service was good, food not so much at all.

If you are stopping in portage. And want a step above Quaker lube. This place is comfortable and friendly. Good food and quick service.

I'm sitting in Texas Roadhouse right now because Longhorn lost my to-go order. Instead of trying to make it right the condescending bartender slightly smirked and tried to tell me I either didn't place the order or called the wrong store. I've been giving them my business now for the last year and for the last 6 months every weekend...he then proceeded to yell across the bar to get the attention of the hostess who apparently took my order, then adamantly refused to believe her when she remembered my order and when she gave it to him. That was when I said thanks and left. I have 3 stars because as long as I've been going there this is the first time I've seen this guy and the others have always been very courteous and efficient. I just didn't need the drama in place of customer service. I'm sure they'll get along fine without me and hopefully this new place will appreciate my business.

Great food, competent staff and amazing drinks. My absolute favorite people are Mike and Jeremy behind the bar, Kat and Jesse on the floor, and Sabrina who does both. I can go any where else to eat but I come here for the full package. I love it here.

The one star is only because my waitress was really nice. The bartender had an attitude and had no idea how to make a martini, which in my opinion, is a must at a steak house. The food was less than stellar also. I've been to the Merrillville location many times and have always enjoyed my experience. Super disappointed. :(

We stopped for lunch on our way home from Chicago. They have some reasonably priced lunch deals. The lunch deal I chose didn't say it had mushrooms but if I had gone to the full description of the sandwich in the other part of the menu, I wound have seen it. Totally ruined my lunch having to pick off mushrooms. I also felt the server was rushing us. Maybe because it was lunch hour, but we weren't in a hurry. That could be another reason why I didn't see there was mushrooms listed.

I'm in Portage, Indiana for four days. My hotel is directly next door. Apparently Portage, Indiana has 12 pizza places and a bunch of fast food and it takes at least 10 minutes to drive to any of them. So... I walked across the parking lot. The food is fine, but let's be real people. This is the Outback Steakhouse meets southwestern United States. Pretty pricey for what you get, but the food has been reasonably tasty. I can honestly say that I won't ever come back to this place unless it's the only place to eat. PS - they can still smoke in bars and restaurants in Indiana. Ugh.

The atmosphere was nice, the service bad, and the food mediocre. Waited over an hour for a table and after asking for an update found out the device they gave us to notify the table was ready was defective. Instead of finding us they just went on seating people who came in after us. They brought us to a table set for 5 people even though it was just 2 of us and that is what we had asked for. Chain restaurant that doesn't invest in a capable staff and it shows. We heard the host apologizing to 2 or 3 other tables within earshot of ours for the staff screwing something up. Food was maybe 3 stars.

Not sure why there are negative reviews of this place. Every time I eat here, I am fully satisfied. Service is awesome, food is really good. My wife's steak was not done to her liking ( a little under cooked for her taste). They took it and brought it back and she was very satisfied. We don't go here a lot, but will always recommend it to someone looking for a steak to go here.

I've never had Lornhorn before traveling for business. This one is right down the street from my hotel I was staying at. I eat healthy and LongHorn is probably one of the best restaurants I've found to have a decent meal at that won't kill your macros. I recommend their: 10oz Salmon Cals: 410 Protein: 56g Carbs: 4g Fat: 19g Sod: 420mg Napa Grilled Chicken Cals: 370 Protein: 52g Carbs: 7g Fat: 15g Sod: 1230mg Their food is always good and cooked right. Michael at the bar is a good dude.

Walked in and had to wait for the hostess to get off the phone for over 10 mins to get seated. Ordered my steak medium and it was all red. The waiter said that medium was red throughout. That is not how a medium steak is supposed to be. Never once have I had a medium steak all red and bloody. All of our party thought the steaks were kinda bland. They had a big party coming in and they set up the tables so you had to squeeze through to get to the bathroom and I almost fell. Quite honestly I've had much tastier steaks at Chill's and allot cheaper.

It was a slow start but then things turned out ok. The staff are great and although the waitresses have to clear the tables they are able to keep up, not sure how this works when they are busy though. The food was simply ok, nothing to speak highly of. I wouldn't stop here again unless there were no other options.

To put it briefly...exactly what I expected upon arrival. Decent food, nice atmosphere, great service. I stopped off for a quick bite during my drive to Michigan and had their steakhouse burger with fries. I started with a cup of their cream of potato and bacon soup too. The soup was good....but not hot unfortunately. Warm at best. The bacon could have been cooked a bit more as well. The burger was tasty, juicy and well topped! No complaints. Fries were lacking (not in taste...but sheer number). It felt like a half-order. The server was super pleasant and welcoming. Best smile ever!

Not much gourmet food to choose from in this area so we 'settled' for LongHorn. It was a great dining experience, great service and very tasty food. We opted to not get steak because we are used to a much better cut of meat when we eat steak but the chicken dishes were delicious and the wine choices were satisfactory in a pinch. I would go back again - it was a pleasant experience.

My boyfriend and I moseyed into our local LongHorn on a Saturday night. The place was pretty busy and we were told the wait will be around 35 minutes. We were hungry and didn't feel like driving anywhere else, so we decided to wait. While we waited, we observed a man leave with a carry out order. About ten minutes later the same man returned with the same carry out order. Apparently the restaurant forgot to pack nearly half of the food he had ordered. The manager came out and nervously apologized several times. Perhaps an anomaly in an otherwise well-organized restaurant? I encourage you to read on. After about forty minutes of waiting for a table, I went up to the host stand and asked if they had an estimate of how much longer the wait may be. I was told that they attempted to call us for a table, but we never responded. Apparently the pager they gave us was broken, which was not a big deal but we were then subjected to listen to a nervous, rambling apology from the manager. We were taken to our table which was huge and set for five people. When the server began to bring five waters to the table we mentioned that there were only two people in our party. Guess who came over to tell us how sorry he was and awkwardly attempt to remove the leaf from the middle of the table while we were looking at our menus...you guessed it. Just then a scene unfolded at the table next to us. The server spilled water all over an unsuspecting diner. The restaurant-goer leaped up and literally shouted something like "Whoa doggy!" The server and the spilled-upon man attempted to clean up the water, when out of the shadows appeared the manager. There was an uncomfortable amount of apologies spewing from the manager's mouth. I think at the job interview LongHorn execs said, "We need someone who can demonstrate passive, awkward body language while offering profuse, insincere apologies to all of the guests who fall victim to our unparalleled disorganization. We are in search of a team player who is capable of delivering several insincere apologies, coupled with head bowing and brow wiping, nightly." I don't mean to be so harsh on the guy, but I've never heard "I'm sorry" or "Sorry about that" so many times in one sitting in my life. This place definitely seems really disorganized, but my meal wasn't bad. I ordered grilled shrimp with a baked potato on the side. It was pretty good, about what one might expect from a chain restaurant. I thought the meal seemed a little overpriced though. Based on how disorganized and awkward everything was on this first visit, I don't know that I'll be back.
