My mother and I came here for lunch a few weeks ago to try something different. It was very busy but we were seated right away. The food was wonderful! The hummus with chicken and pine nuts was very tasty! We ordered the Gambos Con Ajo to share. The shrimp was cooked perfectly! It just popped in your mouth! There was so much food that we had enough to take leftovers home. Although I loved my lunch, I was most impressed by the service. I have been in the industry for over ten years and this was the best service I have ever recieved. I go out quite a bit but I am never truly "wowed" like I was that day! He was wonderful! I was so happy with the whole experience that I gave him a 100% tip. Very pleased! I love that we have something new and different in Muncie!

The owner of Damask Cafe, Bassam sent me a message inviting me to come in and give it another try. WOW! I am glad I did. Not only did Bassam make me a traditionally served shawarma, the service was great, and the lunch crowd was quite nice. I actually went back twice last week, once for dinner and lunch. I am glad that this restaurant has gotten past its opening jitters. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Muncie.

This place was great!! Considering the area it's awesome to find something that is fresh and not fast food!! The hummus was excellent and my friends an I received a complimentary appetizer for daring to sit outside on the wonderful patio. Great service.

If I could leave a lower than one star I would. I just spent an hour messing around with a carryout from Damask Cafe. I ordered the tribal platter for $30 and it was suppose to feed 3-4 people. While it came with plenty of rice and the spinach and salad looked good there was one dried out 3 oz (I used my kitchen scale) one two oz of the kufir skewer and a little over two oz of lamb kabomb (so one of each looking like a very small appetizer portion) I was so shocked at how little real meat there was in this party platter that I asked my guests to wait and went and spent less than $15 at Victors for Gyros and we had leftovers. So I have no idea how the food tasted because IT WAS SUCH A RIP OFF I TOOK IT ALL BACK AND GOT MY MONEY BACK. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. DO NOT BELIEVE THE OTHER STORIES OFF ABUNDANT FOOD. LESS THAN 8 OZ OF CHEAP MEAT FOR $30 IS A RIP OFF PLAIN SIMPLE. IT"S NOT ENOUGH MEAT FOR EVEN TWO PEOPLE.

Epic. Mediterranean is rapidly becoming one of my very favorite types of food after discovering the restaurant Al Basha in Fishers, IN (close to home) and having a wonderful experience at Little Lebanon Bistro in Columbus, OH. This place lived up to the expectation set by these other two eateries. Very nice, clean, well-decorated place and waitress was very nice and good at her job. Extensive, informative menu. Mediterranean lemonade was stellar. Ok, now on to the good part...the food. For an appetizer, we got a dish (I couldn't remember the name for my life) with fava beans, tomatoes, and onions and a (sadly sort of small) serving of pita bread. Not the best pita I've had but not the worst either, the actual appetizer was pretty tasty. Entrees were the best part. I had summac chicken, my mom had another kind of chicken, my grandma had gyro-style lamb, my dad had kebab-style lamb. All four were excellent, the best being my own and my grandma's. The gyro style lamb was the best I've had. The garlic sauce on my chicken was pretty yummy, and I loved the couscous that it was served over...get couscous and not rice, here. (It was better, and I haven't seen it at similar restaurants before.) The tabouleh I had with it was a little too intense for me, but I'm sure it was prepared correctly, just not for me. This was a bit expensive when we got down to it, with four people, three non-water drinks, and an appetizer, but it was worth it and it's a good place to have as a midway point between home and where my grandma lives. We'll certainly be back...Muncie is lucky to have this.

I love this little restaurant in Muncie, IN! I stopped here on a whim during a road trip from Indianapolis to Toronto, and I wasn't expecting much, but both the service and the food blew me away. Now I live in Toronto, where good Mediterranean options abound, and Damask Cafe was right up there with the best of them. I had the kufta (ground beef) with garlic sauce, and that garlic sauce was DELICIOUS! The vegetables the kufta came with were also very good. The house salad was great and the fries were done just the way I like them, not too crispy, not too soggy, cooked just right. Everything was fresh and flavourful and delightful. Five stars and I will definitely return the next time I'm in the area!

Damask, you surprised me. I wasn't expecting a tented outdoor lounge. I wasn't expecting the creative flavors and spices in our entrees. I was REALLY not expecting a hookah bar. But surprise me you did. Two of the entrees ordered by our table were delicious! I'd be hard pressed to choose my favorite between the Andalusian Chicken and the Iskander Kabob. The gyro wrap was also ordered, and while not bad, was somewhat run of the mill. Our consensus - order something a little more exotic and skip the wrap and fries.

One of the best places to eat in Muncie! You will not be disappointed. I've dragged all my family and friends who come from out of town to have the Summac chicken and the yummy salads. The service is always nice, the prices are very fair.

I had the lamb kabob, basmati rice, Greek salad, and lentil soup. All were very good. Everything tastes like a lot of preparation and care is put into the food. The staff were all very nice. The inside was very comfortable and relaxing. Definitely a must if you like ethnic cuisine or grilled meats. Lamb was grilled perfect. Tsatziki sauce blew my mind.

Our favorite Muncie restaurant! We love the Feast platter, but today we tried new-to-us entrees. I had the Gambas con Ajo which is a shrimp dish over rice. Really flavorful and tasty with cilantro, garlic, and cinnamon flavors. My husband had the Andalusian chicken which has a creamy sauce with capers, green peppers, and onions over rice. Both entrees were delicious. Also each came with a salad, a side, and pitas. So much food! We had to end the meal with the baklava-it's our favorite!

This was my first experience with a Mediterranean restaurant and I loved it! The decor was beautiful. Our server was so sweet and friendly. We started with the olives, feta and pita appetizer. It was incredible. My daughter ordered the falafel and enjoyed it very much. I ordered the sumac chicken. It was very tasty. I got a side of avocado salad. Once I tasted it I realized it had some kind of vinegar in it (and I'm allergic to red wine and balsamic varieties). Our server confirmed it contained balsamic. The chef felt bad and made up a small amount for me without the balsamic! I was so touched. I highly recommend this place and my daughter, who has much more experience with Mediterranean food, also liked it very much.

Delicious food and attentive service! This is the best Mediterranean food I've ever had and the environment is really relaxed and pleasant. Even simple foods like pita and hummus are a whole new enjoyment here. I recommend everyone try it out!!! :)

Mediterranean cuisine in the Midwest, that is actually awesome. I drove all the way from Annapolis, Maryland yesterday and this is the first place I have eaten at since arriving. We started with the samosas with a Asian inspired chili sauce. The sauce was a combination of feta cheese and Thai chili (sweet) sauce. It was really tasty. Our main course was the Gyro salad, it was at first sight, a small portion. But after diving in, it was evident that the size was just right. The dressing was a sweet balsamic vinaigrette, the salad was a mixed green with just enough olives to not be over powering. The Gyro was perfectly cooked, combined with the light feta cheese makes this a great meal for any occasion. This is a diamond in the rough.

I really like this restaurant. The feast (combo for two) is my favorite...great to share...plenty of food for a very good price. I strongly recommend the summac chicken. The only bland item I've tried has been the Damask fries...seemed like seasoned salt replaced the garlic and cilantro. Overall good food.

I guess they are trying. Our food was OK. Our dining experience was dismal. We hit it on a Tuesday evening when there were about five tables occupied and two servers working (actually one working and another piddling at working). We sat 40 minutes before we got ANYTHING to eat -- and that took two complaints. Maybe they did not like us. A couple who came in after us got two full courses of a meal before we got anything. They did finally "comp" us some hummus that was better than what I ordered; I used the quotation marks around "comp" because I wound up overpaying in cash to avoid having to deal with the service staff again. I know people who really like this place and you might too -- but I will not go back.

What a great find here in Muncie Indiana! Came across it on help and figured it had to be good. It exceeded my expectations. Great service and great food. I had the kufta and babaganoosh and they were amazing.

I've had quite a few things on the menu and especially like the Pesto Chicken Wrap. The wait staff is always friendly and willing to answer my questions. I love the Zaatar app and humus app. I have always found that all of their dishes are full of flavor. This is my favorite restaurant in Muncie and possibly in all of Indiana for that matter. It's definitely worth trying if you live in Muncie and you're feeling like something healthy and different from the chains and CRAP.

Delicious and very reasonable pricing. Albeit this is my first time here, it was a good experience. Nice atmosphere. Very clean. I had the falafel wrap with a side of fries and a Turkish coffee. The wrap and fries were great, but I didn't care for the coffee at all (but I had no idea what I was in for, expecting something more along the lines of Irish coffee). For those who don't know, it's coffee that's thick and strong like espresso. Oh well. I still can't wait to try this place again.

Get the Feast for 2. Definitely the best deal and most bang for your buck. The molasses marinated flank steak was incredible. Best greek salad and dressing I've ever had. Will be back soon!

This place is a great gem in Muncie. The atmosphere and ambience are pretty great. If you want some really good food that's not junk and is packed full of flavor then this is the place. We will definitely be frequenting this restaurant. Looking forward to the summer months when they have their tent and outdoor seating set up. And can we say, " hookah!?!?" :-)

Went there after a swim meet in Yorktown. We ordered the Zattar and Hummus for appetizer it was amazing. We ordered the Tribal Feast which was enough to feed four of us three types of meat over a bowl of basmati rice seasoned with tumeric. All of the meats were fabulous flank steak, gyro meat and summac chicken. Well seasoned and the pita served with it was fresh and melt in your mouth. The salad was fantastic dressing was very flavorful. Very reasonably priced. Service was a little slow which is why I gave 4 stars. They only had one server and she was overwhelmed. I will defiantly return when we are in the area!

The feast is an awesome deal. This was the best meal I've had in Muncie. The food was amazing. Disappointed there was any beer or wine but the food more than made up for it. Servers are very hip and sweet. We will be back.

The only thing that would soften the blow of the closing of the non-chain Italian restaurant that used to occupy the premises, would be to have a decent ethnic restaurant take its place. Even better would be if it was something not previously available in Muncie. Well Muncie restauranteurs--we have really landed on our feet with the opening of the Damask Cafe. Muncie finally has its first Mediterranean Restaurant. It opened February 15 officially, but I am hearing that there was a "soft" opening prior to that last week for the Mediterranean community where everything was half price. Darn. How did I miss out on that? Appetizers? You have eight to pick from: Zaatar, Hummus, Baba Gannoush, Felafel, Fried Eggplant, Yelangee, and Spanikopita. Can't make up your mind? Pick one of three combination appetizers. Prices on the "food before the food" (which is what my oldest son used to call it) range from 4.95 to 16.95 for the ultimate combo platter. Salads? I am glad you asked. My wife was quite happy with her Greek salad. Plenty of Feta and Pitted Olives, tossed with a light vinagrette that was not overpowering. Other choices here included: Damask Chicken Salad, Tabouleh, Barley Salad (tagged as one of their original dishes, and it does sound interesting) and Fatoush. There are wraps ranging from the familiar Gyro to the less familiar Veggie Wrap that has grilled zucchini, broccoli, eggplant, and basmati rice with parmesan cheese. Wraps are served with a side salad. Main courses are all less than 15 dollars and are served with rice pilaf, house salad, pita bread, and choice of either the soup of the day, spicy spinach, or fresh fried potatoes seasoned with cilantro and garlic. Here you can get Summac chicken, lamb kabobs, Gyro plate, Kufta, Gambos Con Ajo ( a shrimp dish which I shall try next time) or Mjeddrah--a vegetarian dish, which if you just can't stand it, you can add meat to it for an upcharge. I ordered the Feast Combination platter, which both I and my wife enjoyed and there were still leftovers to take home. The lamb kabobs which I ordered as my "red" meat with the Feast had plenty of lamb and I got four of them The meat, while tender, was slightly over done for me as they were delivered well done. I don't know if I could have ordered medium or not. The kebobs were lightly seasoned, and I would have liked them better if they had been basted with seasoning during the cooking process. The Summac Chicken was very good. Not dried out, and it prompted me to buy some Sumac seasoning on the way home. (I don't know which spelling is correct, Summac or Sumac, or if both are acceptable) One thing which was surprising good was a glob of white stuff that I thought was going to be sour cream or gyro sauce. Instead it was garlic sauce which was quite tasty. Oh, the rice was perfect. Not at all starchy or stuck together. So what did I not like about it? Dumb stuff like not having a choice of artificial sweetners. You could have any kind you wanted as long as it was the pink packet kind. The lantern table decoration is too big, especially on a table for two which is what we had. No specials were available. No lunch menu. No salt or pepper on the tables.

Service was pretty good, and they gave a very friendly/cozy atmosphere. The booths were a bit cramped for even 4 people, so I would suggest outdoor seating or possibly a table if your party is three or more, or if more that half of your party is average sized or bigger body type. Not trying to body shame just want you to be comfy when eating some delicious foods.

We popped in on Thursday evening to find a nearly full parking lot, but were seated promptly. Our server was quick to take our drink orders, etc. The table was a little sticky, and the lack of salt and pepper was odd, but let's move on. The falafel app was great. Light, fluffy, nicely seasoned and beautifully presented. 7 hush puppy sized balls with a mint yoghurt sauce, perfectly toasted pita wedges, and unadvertized junkie with a chili sauce. Not the best hummus ever, but it was free I guess. Entrees came out quickly. The gyro plate was ok, but for $13, the portion of meat was dismal. Rather than using a real rotisserie gyro machine, they hack off a hunk from the Kronos log. It was fine, but clearly not cooked the way I'm used to, and totally not enough. The bed of rice and grilled veg was ok, but I had to ask for the latter, as the kitchen had forgotten it. The salad was served on the same plate and was dressed with the thickest globs of balsamic I've ever seen. It was like cold brown gravy. The "fried potatoes" were fries, and somehow not great. It wad though they were lightly battered. The chicken shawrma wrap was bullshit. The chicken was tender, but the summac seasoning the.menu so loudly boasts didn't do anything for us. There were a couple fries and dill pickle chips inside the spinach tortilla too. We had no business ordering that, but it had no place on that menu. Service was great and our server seemed genuinely concerned about our experience. The chef did a meet and greet too. The place just lacks focus. Is it Mediterranean or middle eastern? If the chef is a turk, do more Turkish food! If the owner is Lebanese, serve that stuff! They just seem to be confused about who they are and are pandering to ignorant muncie palates. I'll be back in a few months, hopefully when they've got a new menu. Great tzatziki, BTW. No beer or wine!!!!!!

I'm really somewhere between a 2 and a 3. I was really happy to see a Mediterranean restaurant in Muncie, but was a bit disappointed in the food. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't fabulous. I love Mediterranean food, particularly Turkish, and it didn't compare to what I'm used to. We ordered an appetizer plate. The hummus and tabouli were fine, but not the best I've had. The baba ganoush was smokey which was good. The pita bread was a bit burnt. The lamb kebob was nice, the sumac chicken was also pleasant. I liked the spicy spinach, but the fried potatoes were french fries with a bit of garlic parsley. Really? The Turkish coffee is served in a cup way too big, and it defeated the purpose of Turkish coffee. Our server was really nice and attentive.

The food is good but seemed a Americanized. Still a nice place with a Middle Eastern flavor.

I stopped in with a date for lunch on a Saturday, and found the place to be fairly quiet. Perhaps 3 other tables were seated when we arrived, though the place began to fill up perhaps to half capacity by the time we left. The decor is simple, almost Spartan, but not unpleasant and certainly forgivable for a brand new restaurant. Damask Cafe appears to be moderately priced, with appetizers starting at $7 up to a massive $17 platter. We started out splitting an appetizer of the felafel ($7). Usually, I find that appetizers are a disappointment - you pay a fairly sizable cost for not much food, especially when you start dividing the dish among several people. The felafel, however, consisted of 6 meatball-sized portions, as well as some pita wedges and a tasty herb mixture to spread on them. You could honestly order it for one person and make a nice, light lunch out of it. Our appetizer came out a reasonable five to ten minutes after we ordered. Entrees will run you $13-$16 a pop, except for the massive combo platters designed to feed 2-3 people at $20-$30 each. It's certainly not *cheap*, by any means, but each entree is served with a side salad, pita, rice, and a side dish choice, which offsets the prices. I ordered the Gambas Con Ajo ($16), and my date ordered the Lamb Kebab($16). We waited perhaps 15 minutes after finishing our appetizer before the server returned with complementary bowls of Lentil Soup ($3). Apparently our dishes were taking a little longer than expected, so they wanted to make sure we at least had something, which I appreciated. It's worth noting a few things: - The soup arrived about when I would have been expecting the entrees, so it was apparent they were "watching our back" so to speak. - The soup itself was hearty. It wasn't incredibly flavorful, but like a good potato soup it was very rich and satisfying. Not every dish needs to be bursting with flavor to be good, and the lentil soup fit the bill nicely. - The entrees arrived perhaps 10 minutes later, so it was hardly an arduous wait, especially with soup to keep us busy. When the entrees arrived, they consisted of oblong plates filled with food. The salads came out on the same plate as the entrees, as did the pita. My dish apparently required the entire plating space, so my salad came on a small side dish. Here are my impressions: The salad was spot on. It was clearly a house-made salad, with lettuce, tomato, pepper, onion, and a delicious balsamic vinegar dressing. It wasn't extravagant, but it's a side salad - it did its job well. Next up was my Gambas, which I have to say was probably my only real disappointment. The dish consisted of sauteed shrimp in a mildly spicy, cream-based sauce. The problem was that it was very wet. The flavor profile was good, though a bit diluted. I gleaned from our waiter that the Damask Cafe had recently altered the recipe to use half-n-half to find out which made the better dish, and I would have to say that cream would have been the better choice - probably even reduced for five minutes to thicken it up and concentrate the flavor. I do not know whether the mishap with the timing caused the kitchen to rush it out, or whether that's the recipe as written. Regardless, thickening up that sauce a little bit before sending it out would have made the dish excellent, rather than merely pretty good. The rice was cooked with turmeric, and was well done - not sticky in the slightest but not dry or undercooked either. I ordered the garlic/cilantro french fried potatoes, which were outstanding, if not exactly a close fit thematically. Between the fries and the felafel, whoever is running the deep frier in the kitchen really knows what he/she is doing. We were both very full following the entrees, but decided to split a desert of baklava ($5). It was a little bit wet, and a little heavy on the clove/cinnamon flavor, but competently done and an enjoyable conclusion to the meal. So all in all, I enjoyed myself a great deal, and the slight misstep with my entree is only really enough to knock down my rating by one star. So why the three star rating? A bunch of little things, really. The metal booths are all connected together such that when someone sits down directly behind you it is quite noticeable. Some of the menu options seemed misguided. Lentil soup, for example, is made with a chicken stock when it could easily be a veggie option. You also can't get a drink for less than $2. I drink water at restaurants, but many do not. The wait staff doesn't seem to be the most experienced, but eager to please and certainly adequate. My final impression is that Damask Cafe is competent but new, and is willing to make fixes as it pulls away from its opening day. I would expect the service and kitchen to continue to improve, and to earn a solid 4 stars within a month. I will certainly be returning.

Server and hostess were very nice. The tables and glasses were dirty (sticky, fingerprints and water rings) and food was "OK". However, will probably come back just to make sure they weren't just having an off night.

I'm a college student at Ball State University. I'm originally from Chicago and was so excited to get a place like this in Muncie, Indiana. I've been to restaurants like this before and absolutely love the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine. When we first walked in I thought the place was small but had a nice theme going. My only complaint about the decor is that the seats are connected by a strip of metal at the top and when someone moves in their seat at another table you definitely feel it. The menu was a bit tacky and was obviously not done professionally but it did have some interesting information about the spices that are SUPPOSED to be used in Mediterranean cooking. Our waitress was possibly the worst waitress I have ever had in my life, that's including the time I had a Coke dumped on my lap. As a daughter of a restaurant owner and someone who has always worked in the food service industry I was extremely disappointed with the slow service at this place, especially considering there were only two other tables besides ours, both of which had a different waitress. And during the long wait for our food we watched 3 employees enjoy their afternoon lunch break. I ordered the Mejiddrah, which comes with salad, pita bread, and a choice of soup, potatoes, or spicy spinach. I am a vegetarian and always double check that the soup is not made with any animal stock. When I asked my waitress if the soup was meat-base free she replied "Ummm I think so..." Upon which I asked her to please double check. After five minutes, she reappeared to tell me that the soup DID in fact have a chicken base. So I opted for the salad instead. My boyfriend ordered the Summac Chicken which came with the same choice of sides. Being very meat-friendly he asked if he could substitute his salad for potatoes. Our waitress said she would check and did not reappear for another 20 minutes, which is when she brought out our salads. She informed my boyfriend that they would not substitute potatoes for a salad but that she had added a side order to our bill. She didn't even bother asking if that was okay with us and then just walked away. Our meal came out before I had even finished half of my salad. Everything looked pretty good and the portions were fairly large. The taste however was very similar to a cardboard box, and that's being kind. The chicken was okay at best but was on the dry side. Having had Mediterranean food before, I know it is supposed to be very flavorful and my dish was extremely devoid of any flavor whatsoever. My "grilled veggies" consisted of one mushroom, a slice of pepper chopped in half and 6 slivers of onion on a kabob. Upon seeing that we were not eating our food our waitress brought us boxes without asking how the food was despite our clearly unsatisfied expressions. Our extremely dry service and barely edible meal amounted to $31 dollars and some-odd cents. The bottom line is this: If you are looking for great food and friendly service this is the last place you should go! Overly priced meals and a terrible wait staff is all you will find at this joint.

Very tasty--a great addition to Muncie. Hummus and pita platter is really yummy. The mozzarella pasta salad is unique and really good. Spicy chicken wrap is great too. Love the side of spicy spinach.
