I've been to Papa Vino's three times in the 15 years I've lived in this area. The first two times were disappointing, obviously. Today was pretty good. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and two meatballs. I had to really search the menu to find "regular old spaghetti", it was on the last page in tiny print. Papa Vino's seems to want to push the more expensive concoctions on the front pages of the menu with the big, juicy photos. The dinning room was a little chilly and there was a loud obnoxious woman with her brat kid at the table next to me- not Papa Vino's fault but it still figures into the experience. I started with a side salad (extra charge, not included in the pasta entrée) with Bleu Cheese and bacon dressing. It was O.K. - but if I never had it again I would not miss it. Papa Vino's gives (or is included in the price) you a small loaf of bread. It was nice, but not warm or particularly memorable. They also give you some dipping oil for the bread, but instead of herbs it has large, crunchy chunks of "something" in it. My spaghetti came out when I was about half-way through my salad so it had time to cool-off while I finished my lettuce. (sarcasm) The spaghetti was good...but not great. The herbs in the sauce were tasty and interesting, but the sauce did not have that slow-simmered, dark depth to it. The meat balls were good, but again not great. The waitress did a good job and was friendly and attentive without being overbearing or pesky. Overall a GOOD meal, but not a new favorite. Rather expensive at $19.00

I've always loved Papa Vinos's! Great wine & delicious food. The service could use a little improvement but I would definitely go back!

Wow! What happened to Papa Vino's? It's never been the kind of place I would go out of my way for, but it's become the kind of place I will not go at all. The bread is good. The salad is decent. That much remains consistent. But my husband and I were extremely disappointed in our entrées. I tried something new, chicken cannelloni, and I couldn't eat more than two bites thanks to the mushy texture and slightly rancid taste of the minced chicken. The white sauce was okay, but bland. My husband's Italian Trio was edible, but everything tasted a bit odd; the manicotti, for example, tasted of uncooked flour. Service was excellent, but sadly, I've had better meals at Fazoli's.

Atmosphere is very good, and good wine list as well. This is my first time here. So anytime I try a new Italian place, lasagna is my choice. It looks lovely, but lacks that good Italian spicy punch. The service was good on this Friday night. My dinner companions got the Chicken Parmesan and the Vodka Penne, both of which they thought highly of.

I've always been a fan of papa Vinos. The pasta is delicious and the bread is amazing. Generally good service, although this Saturday my server was neglectful (and no, they weren't busy). It's very large and has a great atmosphere.

Came here for a meal while in South Bend on business. My first impression is a beautiful restaurant with nice ambiance. Started with the bread and the "toasted garlic" seasoned olive oil for dipping. What a disappointment. The presentation of the bread coming out in a paper bag lessens the feel of a quality Italian restaurant. Very cheap presentation. As for the "toasted garlic" olive dip, first off, toasted garlic does not add to olive oil like fresh minced garlic does. The oil is not accented with garlic. What you have is toasted bits of garlic that when you bite into your piece of bead, you get an unpleasant, overwhelming taste of garlic which gets caught in your molars which continues to overwhelm each additional

This was the third time that I have dined at Papa Vino's the other two times the experience was much better. There was a 40 minute wait to start due to their Veterans Day special which reaffirmed my previous visits but that was the last experience that did. We were seated next to a table of 10 screaming pre-teens that were unsupervised, their parents were seated across the dining room. Our server took forever (5minutes) to show up for a drink order. The next time we saw her after she dropped off the drinks was 10 minutes later. When our food arrived it looked like it had been under the heat lamp for quite a while. It will be a long time before I give them another chance to make up for this visit.

We have always enjoyed this place and love the new look. . They have great lunch menu that is cheap and they are very quick and timely... I think the drinks are pricy and will shy away from then next time..

Sorry, *not* good. Lasagne with meat sauce: - Sauce was so salty there's no room for any other flavor. Absolutely vicious salty - Lasagne was not good. Maybe it sat too long - it was dry, the noodles were hard and chewy and stuck to my teeth, the ricotta was turning yellow and had the yellow not-so-fresh taste Dessert: Chocolate cake....very bland, store-bought chocolate bundt cake. The 'hot fudge' was just Hershey's chocolate syrup heated in the microwave - it wasn't even fudge. Service: Friendly-ish, but slooooowwww.... i ate at the bar, it was dead! Three people and two tables, for God's sake. Wasn't a busy night at all. The bartender would disappear for a half-hour at a time. I would have drank more beer, but I couldn't get find anyone to order from. Ridiculous. So bad, in fact, the guy next to me gave up, got up, and walked out before his meal came. Then there were two at the bar.... (hint: didn't help). Maybe it was just an off-night. But I'm not wasting my time trying it again on this trip.

Papa Vino's has excellent service and awesome food. This is the first restaurant I visited during my first trip to the South Bend area and 9 years later I still love to come to this place for food, fun, and atmosphere. Their menu is fantastic and the environment is top notch! Every year I come here for my birthday and father's day not to mention any day I can break away from work. Great Italian food with decent prices. Great atmosphere with accomodating customer service. Call for reservations and you are sure to have a seat as soon as you arrive at your scheduled time!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
