So sometimes you have to pay for quality, right? Well, Maury's is one of those places. It's expensive compared to a chain restaurant but so the heck what? We go there for birthdays and anniversaries. It's small, quaint and ND themed. The clientele tends to be older but so what? I'm not there to do shots and howl at the moon. That is what the Linebacker Lounge is for. Maury's is where you go to get the best clam chowder ever and great prime rib (Cajun, please). Tonight I had the 18oz New York strip. Wow. My wife got the prime rib. And let me say I think the strip was almost as tender as the prime rib which is no easy feat. Both were great though. Add the cottage fries as your side, a martini or two and enjoy. It's worth every penny...

We had been talking about trying Maury's for quite some time after hearing so many good things and finally had the opportunity last night. It was a snowy Thursday evening and we arrived around 7pm without reservations, which was no problem since there were only a few tables taken. Although they have a pretty loyal following so I would suggest reservations, especially on the weekends. Maury's is relatively small with an obvious passion for Notre Dame. You can tell that much hasn't changed over the years, but there is an impressive collection of ND memorabilia. Great food and service in a casual and cozy atmosphere. You could also tell that we were the only "non-regulars" there, but we were warmly greeted and seated at a comfortable booth. Our waitress was wonderful and I feel terrible that I didn't catch her name. They have a full bar and a long list of specialty martinis, but I opted for a glass of Chardonney ($4.50) and he had a pint of Guinness ($6). For a starter, we ordered the garlic bread and cheese, which we found out is not the traditional garlic bread with cheese. There was garlic toast and crackers along with a cup of homemade cheese spread - made for a good start. The menu includes traditional steak, chicken and seafood options all reasonably priced for the portion size. According to our waitress (and others we have talked to, they are known for their steak and pork chops). I ordered the chicken special which was chicken breasts stuffed with artichokes, roasted red peppers and angel hair pasta with a red pepper cream sauce. The portion was huge and I took home more than I ate! It was two perfectly grilled chicken breasts butterflied with a large portion of pasta stuffed (and overflowing). The special was priced at $18.95 and would definitely be enough to serve two. He went for the steak and selected the New York Strip, extra cut, medium. The steak was huge! Cooked a perfect medium and very tender. The steak comes with your choice of potato, baked in this instance, but it wasn't even touched due to the size of the steak. The steak was $28.95. Entrees come with a soup or salad and we both selected the salad. It was good sized with spring mix, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and black olives. Their house dressing is a homemade Thousand Island but we opted to try and Ranch and Bleu Cheese. We thought it was an above average dinner salad. Our waitress was perfect - very welcoming, talked to us about the menu, checked in with us through the meal and made sure our drinks and water were never empty. Maury's is known for his homemade pineapple upside down cake, but neither of us had room for dessert...maybe next time as we will definitely be back!

Phone first. Called yesterday, answering machine says the place is closed "for a few months due to health reasons". Web site for the place down also.

This place is an institution. It's always a must when I'm in town for a Notre Dame game. Is it higher priced? Sure, but you're paying for great quality, service, & big servings. The to get items were always the pork chops & chicken vesuviou. They are currently closed with the future tbd due to health issues.

They truly know how to prepare meat- steak prime rib, lamb not to mention the seafood. There are a few places in this area that can serve a steak as good as my husbands and this is one of them. You should absolutely order the mushrooms with you're steak. Melt in your mouth!

If you are an Notre Dame Sports fan and haven't ate here- you are doing yourself a disservice. For the record I am NOT an Irish fan, but the food is too good to stay away. It is a great atmosphere, food is terrific and along with hearing the Irish fight song you may also see some Irish Celebrities while you eat.

Amazing food, good cocktails, great atmosphere. Meals are large portions and always well cooked food. Added benefit - ND fight song plays occassionally.

They play the ND victory march every hour! Last time I was there I had the lasagna. It was delicious and my hubby wished he had gotten it. :)

This is an incredible place to go to get a great meal with excellent staff. Make sure you make a reservation and forget about going if it a Notre Dame weekend - this place is always packed and it is a small place. You should start out the meal with the great bread and cheese spread - it is awesome! Make sure you check the specials and consider getting the yummy thick and juicy pork chops - they are the best. Ask for Carolyn the server and she will treat you like gold which of course you are!! The only thing I would say is a negative is that they need to work on getting better desserts - they are small and don't have great options as far as finishing up the meal.
