My broski and I were attending a convention in the same hotel, and decided to have dinner at TJ Maloney's after a particularly busy afternoon. We were both quite pleased with the food and drinks. I'm not much of a bar hopper, so it was a tad more loud and dark as I generally prefer, but perfectly in line with a lively pub on a Saturday evening. First, and foremost, they poured a flawless pint of Guinness... That's three stars they've earned, right out of the gate. We ordered the Reuben Rolls and the Margherita Flatbread to start things off, and both were incredible. The rolls were nicely fried, not too oily, and very tasty. The flatbread was nice and chewy, the tomatoes were fresh and well-marinated, and they were generous with the fresh slabs of mozzarella cheese. I'm actually craving the Margherita Flatbread as I type this now. For our main course, my esteemed associate ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, and I was craving the Corned Beef & Cabbage. Both were very tasty, with generous portions. The corned beef was especially tender, succulent and well seasoned - as good as any corned beef I've had. The cabbage was no less great, and the accompanying potatoes, carrots and broccoli rounded off the dinner nicely. The pot pie was big enough that I had to help finish it off, and it was very good. Seasoned just right, everything was cooked just right, and the crust was well done. Although we were both full, to bursting, we couldn't resist the Warm Berry Cobbler with Guinness Ice Cream - and we don't regret it for a second. The crust was particularly tasty, the berries were nice and ripe, and the ice cream was delicious. All-together, we were very pleased with our dinner, and will certainly come back whenever we're in town.

I would definitely come here again, I like the decor and the food is good. My hubby and I had the shepherd's pie, it was awesome. They also have many types of beer, my hubby & his friend had a beer tour, which they enjoyed. We went on a Friday night and they had live music, which was ok. It did get pretty darn loud in there. It's a cool place to get some food and beer.

Nice Irish pub with a nice atmosphere and the requisite draft beer selection, situated inside the hotel with a student staff. Service was hit and miss; missed place settings, one course too early the next a tad tardy, dirty dishes lingering. The NY strip was a perfect Pittsburgh med. rare and very good, as was the chocolate mousse torte. However the cream sauces and bisque were not Julia Child, not even Rachel Ray. The duo that entertained us were very enjoyable and did not preclude conversation.

Three stars is generous. The only thing Irish about this place is the name. It's loud, noisy and the bartenders are mediocre at best.

Best Fish and Chips in the Area. Service was great too. Friendly staff. Lots on the Menu to choose from. The appetizers are great here too.

Stopped here for a food/drink break on way back to Indy from Chicago. Ordered one of their cocktail specials that the server recommended...then waited while they searched high and low for the ginger beer that goes in it, only to finally determine that they were out. BUT they made up for it by giving me my drink for free (got a Three Floyd's Robert the Bruce). Got a bowl of chili as an appetizer. Was good, but is more like a spicy Irish stew. Worth a try, but be warned it's not the typical chili taste. Had to go with fish and chips for the main meal, and they were fantastic. Fish was a smaller portion than you get at some places, but I still ended up taking half home. Tarter sauce and coleslaw were perfect. Wife got the steak salad, which was LESS expensive than the steak itself, yet seemed to have a full strip included on the salad anyway. She enjoyed the steak and salad, and had enough left to take some home as well. Menu is a little small, so check first if you have some really picky people in your party. Food took a looooong time to come out, and server seemed to never be around/visible, even though there were few patrons, but since soon the food was great and they made right the drink delay, they get a 4 star from me.

I stopped here recently the past 6 months for just a simple drink at their 'pub.' The wait staff was very attentive and made fun small talk with me during my visit, inquiring where I'm from and what I do for a living. During my last visit, it seemed they had a corporate visit from their big wigs and I heard a gentleman telling my bartender/manager that the place was immaculate. I couldn't agree more! The attention for detail and cleanliness is pristine and actually smells clean. The only downside is the WiFi is awful from the Raddison and most cellular connections are naught due to this place being in the first floor of a big hotel.

Great place for some Irish food! I ordered the fish and chips. We enjoy coming here during St Patrick Day. The service is always excellent. They have live entertainment from drums and pipes to Irish dancers.

We had our son's rehearsal dinner here on Friday, March 13th, 2015. Amy and her staff did a phenomenal job of communicating with me during the planning process and following through with having the room arranged and ready for me to decorate hours before the event and serving the food in a timely manner to our guests. The food was excellent with the steak being the most popular menu choice. The desserts were also a big crowd pleaser! Please do not hesitate to your event at TJ's. They will do an excellent job!

The private room was the perfect size for my meeting that consisted of 13 people. The space was appealing, quite and had AV that I was able to utilize. The manager was very easy to work with and prompt in replying to my communications. The server took great care of us. She was courteous of our meeting but made sure that the food came out without delay and everyone was able to get back to work on time. The food was really tasty and the menu had a wide variety. I would definitely recommend TJ's for a business event.

Their food is always fantastic. Everyone I am with is always pleased with their order. Service may be a little slow (I always come when they are busy), but always very friendly.

We went to see my sister sing in a band on a Saturday night. It isn't the best location to hear a band. The fish and chips were decent and the beers on tap were plentiful. It's worth a stop if you are I'm the area.

We were there in a group of 8 so expected service to be a little slow, it was. Marginally friendly, one person in our group had a ring of mold around his glass, they apologized and comped his dinner. When the shrimp dinners came they were so greasy there was a big puddle of grease in the paper at the bottom of the dish, yes it was deep fried and we expect grease but it looked like they dumped them directly from the fryer basket into the plates so the grease from the basket was there too. The corned beef and cabbage was a dinner of separate components, not a boiled dinner where the corned beef flavors the cabbage and carrots, dry and tasteless. The person who ordered it didn't eat it but was never asked if there was a problem. The other meals were okay pub food, the best dish was the appetizer, fries with shredded meat and cheese. Nice decor

This place was mediocre at best. The server was nice and made a couple of beer suggestions, but once she dropped off my food, I didn't really see her again until it was time for my check. I order the fish and chips because I thought that would be standard fare for an Irish pub and got the smaller portion as it was lunchtime. It was completely disappointing from the moment it was bright to my table. There turned out to be only one small-to-medium-sized filet for an $11 entree. The basket was completely full of fries with this sad piece of fish on top--more like CHIPS (and fish) than fish and chips. The slaw was ok, but I'm not a huge fan of the side in general. I wanted to like this place based on the reviews and considering everything else in the area is standard chains, but I definitely would pick the Abuelo's, Outback, or Olive Garden down the street in the future over this place.

Huge portions! Both the Ruben Sandwich & Fish Sandwich were very filling & had good flavor. Didn't care for the bread before our meal, an acquired taste for sure. Went on Sunday afternoon & the place was nearly empty.

We visited T.J. Maloney's for their Mother's Day brunch and it left much to be desired. After we were seated we waited 15 minutes for a server to come take our drink order. The food was average, but could've been over looked had the service not been so poor. We never received refills on our drinks, another server brought us our check, and we had to ask for our server just so we could pay our bill and leave. I didn't think the buffet was worth the $30 charged per person, but I was more upset that an 18% gratuity was added for a party of 2. We won't be returning.

So, upon having a not-do-pleasant experience here, we were contacted by management and decided to return to give them another shot. The hospitality shown to us by manager Jackie was above and beyond. Our food was excellent as was the service, but we still miss our favorite items that disappeared from the menu. All in all it was a really nice experience and makes me believe that our last visit was just a fluke. Thanks for taking great care of us, Jackie, and we will see you again soon!

Food was fantastic, atmosphere was nice, live band was groovy, but WAY TOO LOUD. We were on the other end of the restaurant from the band and the music physically hurt our ears, so we were forced to take our food and leave early.

stopped in for an early dinner. had the shepards pie and a side salad. salad was huge. pie was a little greasy. staff was friendly and prices seemed reasonable. they had a pretty good selection of beers on tap. i might give them another try someday.

ive been to English pubs, Scottish and Irish in the states and in Europe and must say by far worst ever, fish and chips was so nasty i couldn't finish them, beer selection is garbage and and everyone with me agreed the food was sub par in my opinion cheap american knock off restaurant.

This is located in the Radisson hotel. I went here with a colleague while on business. The service was spectacular! Food was great. The server was very attentive. I noticed a minimum of, at least, 3 managers walking around, bussing tables at all times. We were asked how our meals were by a couple of the managers and even the chef! Some people might think this is overkill but I didn't. All in all, great food and great service!

I've been here several times and I'm never disappointed. I absolutely love their Irish chicken curry with the mashed potatoes. I tried the crab cakes last night and it was the first menu item I wouldn't order again. The hosts are always fast and friendly and so are the waiters.

It's with sadness that I'm updating my review. My girlfriend and I once patronized this establishment regularly. Now, neither of us wants to go there, unless it's to pick up carry out food. The food is still good, but not good enough to encourage me to dine in again. It's pub fare, after all. If you're staying at the Radisson, or you're looking for a late night bite, call ahead and pickup your food. I've had dozens of beers here, and either they buy their craft beer pre-skunked, or they don't properly clean their lines. The last few times I've gone, I've just ordered whiskey neat, as I'm tired of being disappointed. Seriously, how hard is it for a pub to take care of their beer? The Irish whiskey selection is unbeatable in this area, however. Service here was once very good. It is now staffed by people who don't know an IPA from wheat beer (a bartender who tells you the only IPA they have is Gumballhead is no bartender.) All of my recent dining experiences have been met by waitresses who are either not trained, or just don't care. Even the manager we talked to about a poor experience seemed not to care. I don't know why this place fell apart so badly, but I'd stay away now. Original review: Fantastic Irish pub fare. The Irish nachos with corned beef are excellent. The shepherd's pie is the best I've ever had, and the beer cheese fondue was pretty good, too. The beer selection it's decent, with all of the expected Irish brews, and a handful of fine craft beers, as well. Of you're looking for a place to try some fine Irish whiskey, this is it. There is no bar in the area that can hold a candle to the whiskey selection here. The atmosphere is very laid back. Even after 9:00 on a weekday, it wasn't too loud. The lighting is on the dim side, with solid wood tales and chairs. This is what an Irish pub should be. If you are lucky enough to be there when Martin, one of the managers is there, you won't forget the experience, I promise you that. Even if Irish pub food isn't your favorite meal, TJ Maloney's is a must try. It's hard to find a decent meal for two with an appetizer and drinks for $50, but this place does it well!

I'm dropping this rating from a five to four star rating. During my recent visit (2 nights ago) I see that they have gotten rid of the BBQ pork sandwich with Gouda cheese on a pretzel bun. It was fantastic and I had been looking forward to having it again. Instead I ordered a hamburger and it was not that good. The customer service was still good and was clean. Just pretty disappointed in the poor decision to get rid of an awesome selection on their menu.

At a conference...needed a quick bite for lunch. Glad I stopped here! The Cod Fritters appetizer was so worth the $8. Enough for a lunch by themselves. Spicy dips and huge fritters.

Closest Irish food that I've had since Ireland - colcannon was delicious. Shepherd's pie was delicious. Managers were attentive and I had to compliment the chef. By the way, the chef is an award winning famous one - go there and find out just who it is!! We were pleasantly surprised and s/he was friendly and courteous!!

I had pretty high hopes for this place. Some friends of ours stop in here on occasion and we had been wanting to meet up with them when we could. Unfortunately, we're about 1.5 - 2 hours away depending on Friday night rush hour out of the Chicago burbs! We finally made it out to check the place out and had a strangely questionable experience. The food was pretty good for the most part. I had ordered a special for a couple of reasons. The food looked great and there was some kind of promotion advertised all over via posters and table tents that you could win a gift card. You had to be present to win which was fine since we had planned to hang out all night! Our server was amazing (I would rate her a 5) and the food was good (we would rate it about 3.5), but the management was what brought our night down (rating of 0). Our server gave us a ticket for the drawing earlier in the night. She later said that she informed both the manager and the owner that we were still here for the 11pm drawing. The time for the drawing came and went... Our server said that she couldn't find the owner, but that she would see what she could do. Finally, after I asked that she go find him, the owner came to our table at 1am to tell us that there would be no drawing. When I asked why he stated it was due to the fact that only 4 people ordered the special and that I was the only one still here. So I asked if that meant that he was falsely advertising the promotion and he couldn't respond. We had some serious back and forth debate for about 10 minutes and finally he threw the gift card at me. Awesome.

I've been a fairly frequent customer for the last 6 months or so and was always very impressed by the food, atmosphere, and staff. However over the last two visits, we've had a not so great experience. The beer kegs are either not being properly maintained or the lines aren't being cleaned between kegs, as the draft beer always tastes slightly skunked. A few of the newer hostesses only acknowledge you once you say something to them, and even then we were unaware that we were being led back to a table until she turned around to stare at us. No verbal cues at all. To top off the abnormal greeting, it took 10 minutes for a waitress to finally walk past and then realize that we had never been helped. This was just the first visit. On the second visit, not only did the waitress seem very distracted and have to ask us several times for both our drink and food orders, she approached us as we were still eating asking if we were going to be wanting dessert and dumped our bill on the table, never to return. (Both of the last two visits were abruptly ended by waitresses placing a check on the table without asking if we were wanting to keep our liquor tabs open - which we were intending to do up until this point.) After about 5 minutes of waiting, we managed to flag down a manager on duty, but our concerns were only met with silence and a very meek apology as she brought the cashed out bills back. As someone that considered myself a regular and brought family, friends, and coworkers to this restaurant to unwind, it's extremely disheartening to see things go downhill in the way that they have. We are not likely to return in the future.

Once a month my best friend and I indulge ourselves and go to dinner at out favorite restaurant, TJ Maloney's. We have been going for nearly six months now and have never once been let down with he food or the service. Let's start with the atmosphere. The restaurant is always incredibly clean. Even in a busy area like Merrillville we haven't had to wait for a table. The place is big with more than enough seating. It is never too loud and the patrons are generally speaking at a respectable volume. The service is incredible. Today, for example, I had a small issue with my potatoes. It turned out that the food had been burnt and considering the late hour it would be pointless to cook an entire batch of mashed potatoes for one person. I completely understood that. They offered me a substitution or a free dessert. Well, who is going to turn down free dessert? Not I! I didn't expect them to comp not only my cheesecake, but my friends as well. Amazing service and our waitress was polite, thoughtful and really nice. Now, the food. OH MY GOD the food. I have only had one meal there that wasn't perfect. The Sheppard's pie was a little deconstructed for my taste, but it wasn't bad tasting. Everything else has been amazing though. I highly recommend the Chicken Curry Boxty. It's delicious. And if you're going to have dessert, get the Bailey's cheesecake. Yum. TJ Maloney's is a gem. I love it and will go back every month until it is no more.

Booked TJ Maloney's for our wedding rehearsal dinner on May 3rd, 2013. We had a group of about 45 people and wanted a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The owner, Martin, could not have been more incredibly helpful and accomodating. We were seated in the back in two private rooms. There was a fireplace in one. The rooms were adjoined by a double door, and could both be closed off from the main dining room (important for speech time!) Martin was incredibly friendly in every way. He kept constant communication open during our planning process, helping us put together a menu for our guests to order from. When we arrived, he had a custom menu printed out with my wife and I's name on it, then a traditional Irish toast on the bottom. The small things like this are appreciated! The food was fantastic - shepherd's pie, fish and chips, irish nachos, colcannon soup, and more. Martin helped us put together a menu that was simply devoured by our party. He informed us of some good, frugal options. There was a delay in an entree or two, and he did not hesitate at all to remove it from our tab. He also kept us abreast of drink costs and our open bar tab as the night progressed. Also much appreciated! All this planning, and did I mention my wife and I were out of town the whole time? I hadn't even seen TJ Maloney's until May 3rd, but Martin put together the whole place perfectly. My wife loves a good beer. That's why I married her. I'm glad Martin and TJ Maloney's could be part of our fantastic memories.

My wife and I went here because we wanted to try something we haven't had yet and saw good reviews on here. The food was not that great at all. We had the appetizer of COD fritters which were the best part of our meal. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the Ruben and both were just ok. We got seated right by the entrance which was under an extremely loud vent and could barely have a conversation without having to yell. I would not go here again and wouldn't advise anyone I know to go here.

Waitress - awesome, she got TJ Maloney's that 3rd star. It's a bar/grill in the Radisson Hotel... You'd figure that being in a hotel and all that, they'd be used to seating customers quickly, being properly staffed and ready to get you fed. Noooope, stood at the "please wait for the hostess to seat you" sign for 10 minutes before just walking over to the bar and asking for a table... still no idea where the hostess was at the time. Got seated, the waitress came and got waters and bread pretty quick so props to her. We ordered our food and drinks, the drinks came out quick but apparently there was something up with the kitchen staff because 'I'm sorry, it's taking longer than expected". We were only seated for 15 minutes, no biggie I'm patient., plus we had our soup and salad already. Another 15 minutes, a drink refill and serving of bread and butter... still no steak, still no pasta. I asked our waitress what was going on and apparently they were behind back there and that they'd get out food out asap. Fine... OK, we wait (most awkward "not-a-date-date" ever). Food came out shortly thereafter, good thing too because we were both thinking about just paying for soup, salad and drinks and finding someplace else. As far as the food goes, it was pretty legit. My steak was cooked Medium - hot and pink, tender and juicy, the mashed potatoes were phenom. I'd probably give it another go some time, maybe some folks called off last minute or something... aside from the hostess sitch and the kitchen turtles, service was good. SYOY

My wife and I were there today for lunch. Our server was Tom (he was great), The food was great and filling! Tom did a great job with his recommendation!!!! The smokey bacon & spinach salad was flavorful along side with the colcannon soup. Our entree's were the turkey club and grilled reuben sandwiches with potato wedges. Thanks Tom, we will be back soon :)

I have one word for TJ Maloneys, thoughtful. This place has the Spirit in the air. The legendary steads of the Irish are mapped out on this menu of Irish Soda bread, and more. The gift shop to the left near the entrance has some humorous gifts, and yet keeps the quality of true Irish value alive in their celtic knotted beer glasses. Mothers Day buffet was so adorable and well displayed with choco fondue, white and black pudding, loud music and laughter, and very hospitable service. After having a few stiff waters on the rocks, I chimed in to conversations with others, and read my book there. Sorry my folks just walked in while I am writing this and we're in a very tiny hotel room so hopefully you will bare with my writing here. Well too be continued, well to make a better ending, here goes nothing, TJ Maloneys is very much like being in a log cabin resort in the high snowy mountains of Aspen. It has beautiful wood work and a comfy feeling like a fireplace isn't to far off.

My very kind server earned the place an extra star. The atmosphere was not authentic. The menu was schizophrenic. I ordered a house specialty, fish and chips and it was by far not the worst I have had, nor the best. The fish was very greasy. Grease had pooled under my fries from the dripping fish. The fries were a tad under seasoned and not at all crispy ~ suffering from greasiness as well b/c the were under done. The slaw was very tasty and the home made tartar was very flavorful and complimented the fish very well. Over all overpriced for the product and experience. (and sadly, they muddled by Black and Tan)

Oustanding Meal. Pan seared Salmon was cooked exactly how I asked, Aspargus and couscous was amazing!!! The Roasted Aspargus with Creme Fraiche Soup was the best soup I've ever had. T J Maloney's is a fun place to go if you are in NW Indiana. It's attached to the Radisson Star Plaza hotel. I would definitely come here again! Pros: Unique and plentiful selection of beers on tap Great service (bartender let me taste test as many beers as I wanted) nice atmosphere Cons: food is okay not many vegetarian options crowd is hit or miss I came here one evening for a meeting and the place was dead. Other nights it is packed. Either way, this is a great restaurant/pub to try if you're in the area!
