Flaming Greek Cheese was fantastic as usual! Greek Chicken may have been even better...Tender and seasoned so well! Rice pilaf and oven baked potatoes were on point, too! Better than those were our server, Lilly. She was tired but still jovial nevertheless!

Every time I visit my hometown, near the top of my agenda is a trip to Maxim's. I grew up eating at Georgie's (which was the pre-Maxim's restaurant by the same owners) and even after moving away, I come back and the food is superior to most of what I can get at home. The Tivoli pizza (sausage is my favorite) is the best thin-crust pizza I've ever had, without a doubt. Something in their lemon rice soup is a bit tangier and tastier than the others I've had. Their open faced turkey sandwich with gravy basically defines the category, and their Greek pork chops swimming in delicious juices can't be beat. If you're looking for some pizza, or a hearty Greek meal, or even some basic American fare, stop by Maxim's and you won't be disappointed!

Don't let your eyes fool you. In a different setting with a more attractive build out, I suspect this would be a celebrated restaurant. Their mozzarella sticks are the best I've had. A good cook I know says they must make them themselves and use fresh mozzarella. I don't know where you'd go to get better lake perch. My daughter's chicken parmesan was the perfect consistency. You may want to gravitate toward those kinds of items. My son said his hamburger was fine, but nothing to rave about. On a bang for the buck basis, it would be hard to beat this place.

Didn't really care for it.The food was okay. After seeing bugs crawling on our table, and having to switch out my silverware I was over it.The place could use a lil tlc..

My first experience wasn't bad. The waitress was friendly and the lady who I paid my bill to upfront was as well. Two employees in the front as I walked in on their smoke break seemed a bit disgruntled at something, which made it semi uninviting, and it seemed to take a bit long for someone to acknowledge a paying customer as I walked in. On my way to finish a house I was determined to just eat here. It was pretty busy right when I entered around 10:30am. I ordered my favorite at these Greek type "family" diners, the Grecian skillet. Packed with fresh potato, various veggies, I always add spinach if its available. What was unique was this, was the first Grecian skillet that came with tajiki sauce + it was good and it had a couple nice chunks of cool cucumber too. The dish price was 6.70 not a bad deal, to add the spinach was two bucks more :( oh well still not bad. The coffee wasn't horrid as a review mentions. It wasn't watered down, just your average cup of folgers, I think... Nothing fancy but drinkable. If your near the area I would say it's a decent place for a reasonable priced meal... I'll have to swing in on lunch sometime. Their bar is connected to their diner, which was off to me, however, seemed to have some decent deals on draft beers +++

Would be five stars but made excuses for their chefs bad cooking please. Really they said it was my fault for ordering a $28 pizza to many toppings? Really have to ponder. Because it is so darn great thanks Mike. Just think about excuse to many toppings?? Still the best value if you like quality pizza. In Merrillville.

The breakfast was ok. The coffee was horrible. I had the French toast and it wasn't bad. I asked for bananas and they didn't have any so I ordered some bacon. I was invited by a friend and I will not recommend this restaurant.

This is where my fiance wants to go for his birthday every year, and I think I'm liking it more and more with each visit. It's always busy, no matter what day of the week we're there. The lemon rice soup is great, the Athenian Spaghetti is excellent (as long as you love garlic), but my favorite - the Tivoli style sausage pizza. The closest place to me in Michigan that serve Tivoli style pizza is an hour away. The difference between the Tivoli style and "normal" sausage pizza that most people are familiar with is that on Maxim's sausage pizza, the sausage is crumbled extra fine so that there's sausage in every bite. On a standard sausage pizza, it's usually a hit and miss since the chunks of sausage are so much bigger and therefore the pizza places don't put as much on them. Service is always great, even though we usually go in there in a group of 6 or bigger. I hope we'll go back there again before his next birthday so I can get some more of this awesome sausage pizza.

I have breakfast with my dad here almost every Wednesday. Always great food and the staff are so good they know our order when we walk through the door!

My mother loves this place, but even she is done with it now. The food is average and a decent price. You can smoke in the bar, but it stinks and it super loud in there. Also the server is usually the bartender too, so you get awful service. You can watch games in there on Sundays though, that's a plus. The service has its ups and downs. Meaning sometimes its alright, mostly it's terrible, and once in a while it's good. Never excellent, never great. They feature two soups of the day, lemon rice and one other. If you go on Sunday evenings, they are usually out of "the other." Which sucks for me, cause I hate lemon rice soup. My main beef with this establishment is the complete lack of concern for its patrons. I know this is a Greek Restaurant that has a load of regulars, but they shouldn't take anyone for granted. We called in an order tonight and the owner seemed very annoyed with taking our order. She also wouldn't let my mother order a senior dinner over the phone. To me, that makes no sense. My worst experience at this restaurant? The server recommended the Greek Pork Chops, so I ordered them. When I got them, they were about 70% fat. I tried to pick around it and ended up eating about two bites before I was disgusted. I wasn't going to complain but the server asked how I liked them and I responded honestly. She took the pork chops back to the kitchen, in my clear line of vision, where the entire staff gesticulated, argued, and investigated the pork chops. I was humiliated. After about ten minutes, the owner came to my table and told me they'd be able to take $2 off of my meal for it. Really? They should have either apologized that I didn't like it but respectfully said they couldn't take any money off, or completely comp'ed the meal. The $2 was an insult. I never wanted to go there again, but my mother won out. She won't win again. It's the worst.

It's been a long time since I've been here, but I know you always got a lot of food for your money. The lemon rice soup is fantastic!!

Some members of my family love this place. I've had different dishes the three times I've been there and not one agreed with me. I don't eat there. I also didn't care for the smoking in the restaurant. I do have family that eat there occasionally and they don't have a problem with it. They have a good variety. Everyone should be able to find something.

My grandfather and I come here every once in a while for some decent and inexpensive Greek food. I like this place because it has character. It's an older restaurant and not a franchise. The portions are big and atmosphere is that of a family owned restaurant in NW Indiana. If you love lemon rice soup as much as I do, then you should check out Maxim's when traveling through town. Also, Maxim's is famous for their pizza. Good, inexpensive NW Indiana pizza:)

There are some wonderful treasure's on the menu at Maxim's Restaurant including the "Maxim's Special" spinach pizza. It is by far one of the best spinach pizza's in our region. The "Maxim's Dip" is a hot beef sandwich with melted Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms on a hearty roll. It is served with a beef aujou sauce. When in season, the stuffed grape leaves served with a yellow sauce is something to look forward to. My husband and I are faithful customer's of Maxim's and also frequently phone in an order for carry out.

I previously praised this place, as I come here often and have never had a problem. UNTIL TODAY!! I ordered a carry out. A breakfast croissant with hash browns, eggs and bacon, and a chicken tender dinner with fries extra crisp and a salad with extra ranch for my tenders and salad. Sandwich had no hash browns, eggs hash browns and bacon were floating in brown dirty grease, bacon was blanched cooked at best, basically still raw. Chicken tenders were so under cooked they were still cold and partially frozen in the middle. When I called back the girl on the phone was rude, and worse when I brought back the raw chicken and brown salad she stood behind the gentleman, whom was returning my money, and mumbled bad things to and about me under her breath, even while the gentleman was asking her to please go away. Come to find out she was the one who packed the order. I have been going there for years and leave a 50% or better tip everytime. Never again will I spend a single dollar at Maxim's.

This place has a great menu, good food, and good service. Reasonable prices, consistent and you get a good amount of food. Typical greek menu, but a just a notch over in quality and service. Also kind of a fun atmosphere.

Been here a hundred times. Last night was the worst! Ocean Perch filled with bones. Service rough and S L O W. Table dirty. Rice pudding had no sugar or vanilla in it. We waited over 40 minutes for a table for 4 adults & 1 kid...but there were several missed opportunities to place us at a booth with an extra chair. This restaurant also has 1/2 dedicated to SMOKING. The entire restaurant should be SMOKING because no matter where you sit - you end up smelling LIKE smoke and feel like you were smoking during dinner. Nasty!
