High Cholesterol at Zaxby's

If you are supposed to restrict your calorie count, then try any of the zalads and club it up with a sandwich to fill your stomach with delicious food. To curb the cravings for deep fried food, opt for a small portion (5) of boneless wings and chicken fingerz.

Foods to Avoid at Zaxby's for High Cholesterol

Salads are often great and considered healthy. However, if you have high cholesterol, then you must be careful while ordering salads or shall we say Zalads at Zaxby's. I was excited when Zaxby's came to town because I was hoping to expand my list of places to eat out. I found the overall experience slightly disappointing. The food actually does not taste bad, but I find it much saltier than other fast food places. Also, I thought the sauces were not that good.

I have always liked this place. We had them in Florida. Now they have opened two locations here. Chicken strips are good. Like the zaxby sauce. Love the fries but they put too much salt on them.

Chicken Fingers?!?! What do you do with the rest of the chicken -- let 'em roll around on little skateboards begging for corn? Make 'em stand in the median carrying little buckets, waiting for a van to take them to Chik-fil-A?? And Buffalo Wings?? This inhumane fad is solely responsible for the extinction of the American Bison, who NEED those wings, since buffalo mate in the air! But seriously, I don't see the complaints the other reviews saw. I got dine-in service, and the product and service were MUCH better than the normal fast-food place. My chicken fingers were lightly bread with flavorful rub that added flavor without the often-objectionable heat like Popeye's. Crisp on the outside, juicy on the other inside. And the Zaxby's sauce was a sweet and truly ADDITIONAL layer of taste. Good without it; great with it. MY fries were far from limp. Fresh from the frier, they offered a crisp outside that broke into a creamy potato center, almost as if the potatoes had been baked BEFORE they were cut. Great by themselves, but held up strong to mounds of ketchup. I was surprised by the atmosphere indoors. Not sterile like Mickey D's or RBs. Decorated with local sports memorabilia, but also Elvis and Auto Racing. A family environment that invited some quiet horse play by one Caucasian family, quiet prayer by a middle-aged African-American couple, and a young Hispanic couple that stepped aside to let this old Santa look-alike fill his drink before them. I know they can't control who visits, hut the atmosphere here gives off that controlled respectability vibe that is missing in most fast food joints. Overall, I give this place high marks inside the crowed of fast food joints in this neighborhood.

Love having a zaxbys so close! Used to always have to stop here when heading south but now there's one right around the corner. Much better than Popeye's!

Alright my post maybe late but, I have to say I'm not very happy with their service. We placed an order ONE DAY before Super Bowl XLIX and they "ran out" of what we had ordered. If we placed the order a day before there was no reason for us to be shorthanded. There is just no excuse. Once we contacted management regarding what had happened all they said was that they could issue us vouchers for food. What they should've done was take responsibility of their mistake and give us a refund. I'm not complaining about the food, then again a bunch of guys hypnotized by football will eat anything put in front of them.......

I'd contemplated trying Zaxby's on my last trip to this side of town, but I found myself trying out Georgia Reese's instead. I didn't make that mistake again. Now then, to be fair I should acknowledge that Zaxby's isn't really a whole lot better in the food department. It's more affordable, less pretentious and a lot more calm but not necessarily better. I was in the mood for a relaxing meal and some quiet time to read my Sunday paper. I was also in the mood to try something new, but not really wanting to spend a whole lot of cash. I headed over to the Northwestside of town and started looking around. While there are a few restaurants on this side of town I hadn't tried, as a person who just gave up red meat I figured I'd avoid temptation and go someplace that only offers chicken. Zaxby's is a regional to almost national chain of chicken-fied (I made that up) restaurants with locations in 16 states and four restaurants in Indiana. This particular location is the only Indy location, though there is also one in Fishers. Started by a couple of childhood pals in 1990, Zaxby's emphasizes pretty much everything chicken that can be done fast food. That said, it's not super-fast food and it's actually a little refreshing to have meal prep take a few minutes. They offer sandwich baskets, a chicken finger meal, and more than a few plays on words with Zappetizers and Zalads. Really. They seem to have carved out their own little niche' in the chicken world and come off quite distinct from Chick-Fil-A, KFC, Popeye's, and Church's. They do also have sides, appetizers, and extras. They also seem especially proud of their iced tea. I ordered what is advertised as one of their more popular meals - a chicken fingers plate that includes chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, and cole slaw. The drink is not included with the meal and by adding a medium drink I had a meal that was just over $9.00. Maybe I was feeling cheap, but it did seem a little steep to me for a fast food meal. I should go back and address accessibility. They have a couple of accessible parking spots with appropriate curb cuts. They have your usual fast food doors. It's your usual set-up - order counter area and a dining area with self-service beverages (including both an iced tea area and the Coke Freestyle machine). There were table and booth options and a couple of identified spots for a wheelchair. While no one was moving the chair that was there, it was light and easy to move myself. The food was actually better than I expected and I'd probably even move it up to the 3.5 range. I can't quite get myself to call it a 4-star experience. It is, after all, still fast food. The chicken fingers, I think there were five, tasted fresh and were quite tasty. They come with Zax Sauce, which seems an awful lot like Honey Mustard but I'm not sure. It's not my usual thing, but it worked. The fries are lightly seasoned crinkle-cuts - the order was average in size. However, one of the keys in convincing customers they got a good bargain is to fill their plate. This plate/basket was nicely spaced and gave me the feeling I was getting a whole lot of food for the money. The cole slaw was pre-packaged and tasted that way, though it was on the better end of pre-packaged slaw. They also give you a piece of toast - this is usually a throwaway for me because it's usually so awful (I'm looking at you KFC). However, this tasted fresh and was actually a nice addition to the meal. The iced tea was also something special and you can bet I had a couple refills! The Zaxby's decor is a definite plus and very nearly makes me push this to a 4-star rating. It's warm, casual and calm. If there's a negative to fast food dining, it's usually atmosphere and that's not an issue here. They have an almost kitschy decor and I really like the local flavor including Pacers and racing themed items. They also offer at least 3 televisions that were playing sports while I was there. It definitely helped me have a relaxing meal. While the employees weren't particularly outgoing, they were helpful and certainly got the job done. While I don't picture Zaxby's being a "go to" spot given that I live across town, it's a place I wouldn't hesitate to stop when I'm back in the area. While I'll stand by my statement that the prices seem a touch high, the meal size is pretty decent and the atmosphere really helps. Given the close proximity of Chick-Fil-A, it'll be interesting to watch the two duke it out. If you've been in the restaurant, you know that last statement was a play on the decor that also includes a nice John Wayne print. Yeah, I know. Jokes aren't funny if you have to explain them.

Not bad not great. After all it is just chicken. Texas toast was great however. It was buttery and salty grilled goodness. We ordered a Snack platter, a Zaxby club and white cheddar bites. The platter chicken fingers crispy, fries limp. Zaxby sauce had an uninspiring taste. The club. Nice bacon on the texas toast. Pretty good, except where they laid the sandwich on the pickle. White cheddar bites I was really looking forward to. First bite all I tasted was beer. Looking up the ingredient list second ingredient is beer. I hate the smell and taste of beer. They went in the trash. Over all not bad. Would we go back maybe.

There's a new Zaxby's in town!! I was so excited, as we hit this little gem coming back from Destin, FL last year and I loved it! I don't know why (maybe it was just psychological) but it just wasn't as good this time. I did get food through the drive thru this time as where I ate it fresh last time. The fries I got were soggy. So were my chicken tenders. When it comes to fast food, my opinion is that companies really need to put as much thought into their packaging as they do their food. If it's great food, but the packaging is going to damage alter the food's integrity - that's a real problem. I know I'm not reviewing a 5-Star restaurant here, but there are companies that have the food quality, food prep as well as packaging down to an art. Those companies are the ones that I'll go back to when I'm in a time crunch.

So sad! I was hoping for a good experience. Instead, I got Iced tea with two ice cubes (on a 90-degree day on 8/4/15) and food poisoning from their Cajun club sandwich. Should have guessed something was off when the sandwich seemed soggy...but I'd been taking care of a newborn all day and was starving. About an hour later, I had to call my mother to watch the baby. I was running to the toilet! Just got over the last of it! Zaxby's, I won't be back! Update: After I logged my complaint on their website, corporate called me and offered coupons, and the actual store manager of this store contacted me as well. A refund was offered (especially since I couldn't enjoy the salad I also ordered that day in hopes of eating it the next day...before I discovered the rottenness hiding in the sandwich), which I appreciated. I'll say this much: at least they are willing to own up to their own mistakes.

Underwhelmed. The food is ok and I love that the containers have vent holes so the steam does not turn anything to mush. The French fries are boring and under-seasoned crinkle cuts, and they were a bit undercooked. I personally didn't care for the mild wing sauce flavor. I have had it twice, and both times I felt like it had a strong mustard taste, which did not blend well with the buffalo flavor. The first time we went there, they omitted my husband's meal. By the time we got home and realized it, it was not worth driving back, so we called and he went back the next day to get a new order. He laughed that when he gave his name, they pulled out a LONG list of orders that appeared to be wrong. They also gave him only the replacement meal, nothing else. For a second drive to get there, they should have at least offered a free drink. It is not a horrible place, and to be fair, they just opened and need to sort out the kinks. I will give it another try in a few months and see if service and flavor have improved.

They had several sauces to choose from and I went with the recommendation of the employee and selected "Buffalo". After I had placed my order I scanned the menu and could not locate a "Buffalo" option. I found this to be disconcerting to say the least. I went over to the drink and condiment area and was pleasantly surprised to find a Coca-Cola Freestyle: Soda Machine fully stocked with Mello Yellow Zero. When I received my food, I was impressed with the amount of food more than anything else. The fries were cut french style and the seasoning was very similar to that which you would get at Red Robin, really good and plenty to go around. The wings were average, the "Buffalo" was really just a slightly above mild sauce, nothing particularly special. The strips however were very good. The Zaxby's Signature Sauce that's served with the strips was delicious. It was exciting to try this new sauce that had the look of a spicy mayonnaise with the consistency of BBQ. I went from fries to wings to strips in a uniform fashion attempting to give every item on the plate a fair chance to impress my palette. Every once in a while sliding in a complimentary stalk of celery to reset the adventure. Overall I give Zaxby's a 4.0/5.0. I will return to Zaxby's, maybe even bring a friend.

I've been to Zaxby's twice, both times at the drive-thru (be prepared for a malfunctioning intercom system). The first visit was only because the lunchtime line at Chik-fil-A (yum!) was backed-up onto 86th Street. Zaxby's chicken strips and Texas toast were so salty, they were barely edible. Today we again went for drive-thru from Zaxby's, having won a gift card at a charity auction event. The boneless hot wings were exactly like the Tyson nuggets found in the freezer section at Sam's Club. They gave us nasty celery that had obviously frozen and thawed in the fridge until it was translucent. Judging by these experiences, I find myself wondering (gift card not withstanding), "Who would be a repeat customer at Zaxby's?" Beyond that, unfortunately, I wonder who would invest money in creating a chain of restaurants that serve this food?

This is much better than the fast food chicken sandwich place. The chicken here actually has flavor and as much (or as little) heat as you want.

I like Chicken. I could eat it every meal. However, not the crap that was served to me yesterday on my first visit to this new restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Strip platter with fries and coleslaw. First of all Mr Zaxby, we here in Indianapolis like our food served at the proper temperature, that means fries and texas toast hot, and cole slaw cold. Now, I dont know if your breading just leaves a strange aftertaste, or if I got a clump of something, but my first bite was pretty awful, so I moved on to another strip, and found it to be rather chewy, as in wayyyyyyy overcooked, next strip, kind of edible. Ok, lets have a fry or two, mmmmm tasty lukewarm and oversalted, just the way I hate them. Open that coleslaw, hmmm, where is my fork? Go to the beverage, napkin, condiment bar and dont see any, the nice lady in the dining room brings me one. Maybe my wait for a fork brought my cole slaw to room temperature? Texas toast, very pretty! Very Cold! I do want to say that the dining room was spotless and attended to by a delightful young woman who was friendly to the several diners there and always had a smile. (she is the reason for 2 stars instead of one) They should have her teach customer service to the men behind the counter who I am pretty sure in a different setting would have difficulty asking "do you want fries with that?" (OH and as an afterthought, turn that damn music down, we dont want to yell at each other over lunch) I am a big man who loves his food, and when I throw half of it away on my way out the door, there is something wrong. Now, I did watch someone devour their plate of wings, so maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I plan to visit again one day, and will update after that visit, because I know now what not to order.

Definitely didn't live up to the buzz but it's probably a step above Popeyes and several above KFC or Church's. It's just fried chicken with bottled sauce poured on it. Nothing innovative beyond that. Maybe I'm missing something that cult followers see.
