The sliders (small burgers) were so thin that it was hard to taste or tell there was any meat in the burger, but the flavor was good. As for the service, I could do without my waitress talking and gabbing with her friend next to my table. Couldn't you have gone somewhere else to gossip and chit chat?

This location is absolutely terrible! I ordered a single cheeseburger and chocolate shake at 2pm and I finally received my meal at approximately 2:30. When I reached the drive-through window, the cashier asked several times what I had ordered, which was super annoying. Needless to say, I will not return to this steak &shake nor do I advise anyone to visit at this particular location. By the way, the Steak & Shake located at 86th/Michigan Rd. is just as bad.

If I could give 0 stars I would. So rude! Took so long to get our food or even take our order. No one was wearing hair nets or gloves. Food was sitting out on the counter that shouldn't have been ( eggs, pancake batter) for at least the 30 mins it took us to get our food. The meat fridge was left open the whole time. When my husband brought up the sanitation concerns to the manager ( he's certified in sanitation) she told him he was wrong and bc a manager was making our food they don't have to wear any gloves/hair nets. It was all pretty unsettling. Just don't eat here. Oh and the roof was leaking onto a portion of the tables.

Hands down, this was the worst STEAK AND SHAKE experience I have had ever. I've enjoyed their menu coast to coast, but while in Indy... Good God man! The tables were cluttered with dirty dishes. It took us 10 minutes to see our first waitress. Out food came, and was cold, despite us being one of the few tables with patrons in the establishment. To top it all off... I ordered a Shake. I did not receive it with my meal. I complained twice, and it took me going to the counter to correct the issue. Even then it took 10 minutes to get the damned thing. UGH. And even then, the bored GM who was taking money, gave me attitude. He didn't give a damn. No apology. No nothing. I didn't want anything FREE, I just wanted my shake with a not so lazy attitude.

I love me some Steak N Shake, but this location has been hit-or-miss for me in the past. On one occasion, I called in a takeout order for lunch, was given a time to come in, and still had the bag served up twenty minutes late with no apology (after standing and waiting the whole time). Another time while waiting in line to pay, I was yelled at (as in, literally shouted at) by the woman at the register to "COME ON!" as soon as the guy in front of my was finished paying. Even if I hadn't been paying attention (which I was) and was lollygagging in going up to pay (which I wasn't), snapping at a customer like that is pretty rude. All that said, it's seen improvement lately and I haven't had a negative experience in a few months. UPDATE: Apparently they haven't changed, because they were mean to my co-worker recently. Docking a star.

Wherever you go there is a local burger chain that competes against the big 3 They offered a $4 meal and I had the Steakburger 'n Fries with American cheese and bacon on a toasted bun. It is basically a child sized hamburger with a small fries that is typical of the value menu of the big 3 It was a tasty burger with shoestrings fries. The hungry will choose a regular sized burger and fries portion with a shake. Service was cheerful with a smile. Remember at this price point you cannot expect much but for $4 you do get value

It was right outside the Marriot, so why not for a late night shake craving? Wrong, this isn't a good steak and shake. It's a slop job joint. Ordered cookie dough shake and I think it was all ice cream with a LITTLE cookie dough topping. There was some type of strawberry in it too. Blah! Skip this location as you see in most of the reviews. There is a McDonald's right next door, might be a better choice.

I went in there for lunch today at 2pm. I ordered a Wisconsin Burger, fries and a Chocolate Shake. My food came first and then it took another 10 mins AT LEAST to get my shake. While waiting at the counter, I noticed the cooking area was in shambles. It was dirty....the floor was full of EVERYTHING: gloves, buns, lettuce, napkins, stuff, etc.....I have taken a culinary sanitation class and KNOW this is unacceptable, even during the lunch rush. The trash can was overflowing with trash. The cashier was rude (she may been a manager) to one of the customers that came in THREE times while I was standing there because her order was wrong. She shared her verbal attitude with her coworkers once she stepped away from the counter, but we all heard her and her attitude. i will never return to this place again in this lifetime.

Waited in line for a salad for more than 15 minutes. Asked for a refund and was not given one.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience simply in the drive through lane. Several cars back, I tried to call in a carry out order, only to have the phone ring for several minutes and never picked up. Twenty five minutes later, the food bag was THROWN at me without a word by the window staff, the drink was wrong, fries luke warm, but the burger wonderful. If I could have given them half a star, I would have. Choose ANYWHERE else to get your burger fix.

The worst Steak 'n Shake in the country, their kitchen is disgusting with trash everywhere. They can't get even a basic order correct.

Terrible service and terrible food. I wasn't expecting much from this burger joint but the service really made it a bad experience. The wait for water alone was 5 minutes and the waiter was indifferent and slow. He was too busy doing nothing to bring us water. Also, rather than place your plate down in front of you, he opted to hand it to you and would let it hang in the air until you grabbed it for 5 seconds. Really weird and I wasn't quite sure what he was doing it. Was he being rude? Was he being lazy? Was this the norm for him and/or this restaurant? Now, normally, if a waiter/waitress is carrying a heavy tray, with heavy plates and they are having a shaky time with the plates, I will of course help out (I being a waitress once). But no...this place's plates are like small side plates and the food isn't exactly huge, heavy portions either. I don't know why this bothered me so much probably because he had such a bad attitude and this just made it worst. He wouldn't even put our drinks on the table either--it was the same thing-- i walk it to your table from 5 steps away and hand everything to you. Anyway, I probably sound like an entitled, elitist ass but it was really his snippiness and unfriendliness that made his actions more bothersome. The burger had too much mayo and mustard and huge pickles on it. The meat was gross too. The chili fries just tasted like baked beans with cheese. The only good thing are the prices.

I ordered online, which was awesome. When I got to the restaurant there were employees in the cars having a good time. The doors were locked and some woman told me they didn't have enough staff so they wouldn't make the food I ordered. Worst experience ever. I paid online so how do I get a refund? Of course there is no one to call outside if bankers hours. The manager wouldn't even come to the door, she had a girl play Middleman instead of coming to the locked door herself

I usually love Steak & Shake, been going there for 35 years, worked there in high school. Loved that job. Don't go to this location. The staff is consistently rude to the point its comical, you wonder if its part of a shtick or something. The server have no interest in being there and the customers are clearly inconveniencing them. Even with the lousy service I still tolerate this location, then yesterday I was leaving while they were taking out trash and saw the most disgusting dumpster I have ever seen. Food was all over, trash was everywhere and not just contained to the gated area. Its hard to describe how bad it was, then I got closer and got the smell. That will ensure I'll never go back.

Just stopped in for shakes and was told the dinning area was closed and got to witness a argument between manager and employee wasn't happy with shakes once we got them.

This location has been "closed" for one reason or another the last 4 times I've tried to go there. That can't be good for business.

Ever see that bathroom in Trainspotting? Kind of like a Rob Zombie haunted house. Steak Shake is filled with real life ghoulish people who look as horrifying as the food smells. 0 STARS.

Standard Steak n Shake. Filthy facility, rude staff, messed up orders, nasty food. I knew better, but got talked into going for lunch with work colleagues. Someone got chili with a bug in it. Not a little gnat or fly, but a full-on giant nasty winged creature of some sort. Absolutely horrid. If you've never been to a Steak n Shake, you could be forgiven for going here, but if you've ever been to a Steak n Shake before, you deserve what you get for eating here.

First of all, this is not one mile from I65 but more near I 465. a waitress grabbed menus and walked away, setting them down on the table and never telling us that was our table, just simply walked to the back and talked to her friends. another waitress walked up to say "she sat you right there" and walked away. We should of left at this point but i love the fries so we stayed. The manager sat and ate his food while the waitresses talked behind the counter. We had to wait for the conversation to stop (15 mins later) just to get a drink and then almost a half hr later to get our food. The portions are so small I had about 15 fries on my plate and almost walked out twice in the hour and half we were there. It was a horrible experience and we will never go back!

This was my first visit to a Steak and Shake. I was surprised to find fast, friendly table service. The burgers and shoestring fries were great !! I loved the guacamole burger. Four of us were served quickly as the place started to fill up for lunch.

I love Steak N Shake. I've been the left coast and tried In N Out and I see what the appeal is to them, but Steak N Shake is a totally different menu, although there are several similarities in their operations. Steak N Shake "steakburgers" are really low fat ground sirloin, not just ground beef so the thin diner-like burgers are actually a better meat choice. There aren't any fancy sauces for the burgers, it's a burger straight up and you add toppings at a cost (ie tomato, cheese, bacon) and the standard veggies are complimentary. They slice their pickles the long way because apparently that is just a cool thing to do. However, since I don't eat as much beef anymore, I still stop in for what I feel is the main attraction: The Shakes. These shakes are too thick to be initially sipped through any straw, however it is not the consistency of a Wendy's frosty to eat with a spoon. It is simply a perfectly handspun milkshake that comes in so many flavors many of which are combinable (is this a word?) in a side by side shake in the same glass (like chocolate and banana.) Other favorites are the generous taco salad in an edible bowl (came out way before Wendy's, or anybody else for that matter), their delicious five way chili (eat your heart out skyline), and their patty melts. They are always experimenting with new things on their menu, but they have a pretty aggressive and memorable advertising campaign, so you'll know the latest creation, or old skool menu favorite that's around. Last thing: Steak N Shake is habit forming, more than some drugs. Whenever my sister comes back to town from NYC, the first stop is the airport Steak N Shake. There's just something about this place once you started hangin out at this place after midnight as an adolescent - You keep going back as an adult every once in a while to reminisce.
