This Steak n Shake is pretty awful. It's close to work, so a bunch of us who work late have come here on our breaks. Usually the drive-thru is ridiculously slow, and nearly every time our orders are messed up. A colleague ordered one of the whatever-chocolate milkshakes (dark chocolate? Chocolate fudge? Whatever.) and somehow ended up with strawberry (which she has an allergy to) and banana in it. I ordered cajun fries and instead of the usual (read: well-mixed and deelicious), they just put regular fries in the cup and shook some cajun seasoning on the very top ones. Another colleague paid extra for something (bacon? cheese? I can't remember), and it was left out. One asked for (I think it was) BBQ sauce at the speaker, and then again asked at the window to be sure, to which the woman snapped "It's in there!", and of course it wasn't. Last weekend I had a craving for one of the Nutella shakes. So, I ran up here on a break. It was all I ordered, they were slow, but somehow I ended up with a cup that was only 2/3 full (the top of the whipped cream didn't even reach the rim of the cup..?!?), and seemed to be plain vanilla. Since they also just put plain chocolate sauce on top, as opposed to the Nutella drizzle, I had assumed they just screwed it up and gave me some plain vanilla thing, but toward the bottom there was suddenly some weird, watered down Nutella taste with a bunch of ice crystals. I don't even know. I think at this point we have all given up on even bothering trying "one more time". The only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 is because it sucks, but not quiiiite as much as the Steak n Shake DooDoo Diner on Pendleton Pike.

I love Steak n' Shake. I eat at Steak n' Shake regularly. I enjoy their food and, despite being fast food, it almost always tends to be better cooked and easier on my somewhat fragile system than most fast food joins. While I was a little suspect when Sardar Biglari took over leadership of the chain, I've been impressed with how he's diversified the product without losing the Steak n' Shake uniqueness. I've also appreciated that he's taken it from a modestly over-priced chain into a chain that offers both affordable and more premium options. This particular location happens to be one of the closer ones to my home. While I typically hit the drive-thru, on occasion I find myself having a rough day at work and wanting to dine slowly inside while reading a magazine. Tonight was one of those nights. If you're going to have big ole' signs in your drive-thru touting quotes from Roger Ebert regarding the wonders of your food, I might suggest that you actually live up to those quotes. While I've not had quite the negative experience food wise that some other reviewers have had, I find the service here to be consistently lacking and that typically includes the management team. I almost always order one of their $3.99 meals along with their iced tea. The meal runs a pretty incredible $5.44 plus tip. Tonight was no exception. I ordered the triple steakburger plain with fries and an iced tea. I'd unfortunately forgotten to say "unsweetened" and they hadn't asked so I got sweet tea. I can't blame them for that, though. The service at this location, while typically friendly, is always hit-and-miss in terms of quality and timeliness. I arrived at the sign that says "Please wait to be seated," a sign that always cracks me up since I'm in a wheelchair. I almost always have to wait anywhere from a couple minutes to a few minutes for someone to arrive and escort me to the table I'm always escorted to. I'm there so consistently that I deserve a plaque. The server, a young man who was either very new or painfully shy, arrived at the table and took my order. The restaurant wasn't that busy when I arrived, but it wasn't too long down the road before it started filling up. The wait on my food wasn't horrible, though right after the server arrived I realized I hadn't gotten what I ordered. I called him back and he got it addressed rather quickly. My guess is that he either grabbed the wrong meal or they gave him the wrong meal. So, some poor diner had to wait a little bit longer. The steakburger was about on par with the usual, while the shoestring fries were a tad crispier than usual. The ketchup bottle was empty. This meant yet another time bothering the server. He checked in a couple times and cleared off my table shortly after I finished, but strangely enough never offered me an iced tea refill even as I was sitting there for at least 15-20 minutes reading my magazine after the meal was done and the glass was empty. If you're going to offer free refills, you might actually ask the customer if they want one. It makes sense to me, anyway. After a good 20 minutes of trying to get his attention while new customers were arriving, I finally gave up and figured I'd get a refill to go. I went up to the cash register and waited close to 15 minutes for someone to arrive to take my cash. It was the general manager, a pretty sure sign they were short-staffed for the night. If she is as pleasant with her employees as she was with me, it's not surprising they'd be short-staffed. Ouch. She did apologize for my wait and I did get my refill to go. Though, considering they have a $1.00 iced tea for any size, I can never figure out why they gave you the regular size up instead of a large to go. It just makes them look cheap. Overall, this particular location sits somewhere between 2-3 stars. I'm moving it downward primarily because so many other locations are significantly better. I know the Steak n' Shake standard for quality and service. This ain't it. Roger Ebert would definitely give this location a major thumbs down.

Quick and dirty review - Food quality is pretty good and they are generally accurate. Service is ok. Some servers are friendly while others are meh. The one thing I can't stand is how unbearably slow the drive thru service can be. I mean it's ridiculous. I never go there when I am in a hurry because I never know how long I have to wait.

10 cars including myself left the drive thru line as we were never assisted. One poor fellow was waiting at the window the whole time. This was a 30 minute ordeal. Drove to the one on 96th instead. Much better.

At 4:13 as I write this I have a smile on my face from the wonderful customer service and quick in and out that was provided by the great employees of steak and shake. Made my whole day!

I have no idea what has happened to this restaurant but the kitchen has really gone down hill fast. The kitchen and wait staff break into fights in front of the customers while the management hides. Had out entire check comped because the manager didn't have the integrity to face us. Unbelievable, steak and shake leadership had better step in get this right soon.

I normally don't review chains, but I had to rate the bad experience at this location. I asked for a double bacon steakburger, no bun, no cheese. (I have allergies.) I was in the drive thru. She repeated my order a couple times, and then asked if I wanted anything on it. I said, yes, lettuce, pickles, mayo, mustard. I get my order, and pull over to eat it before I get on the freeway. 1st- it's dripping in grease. The chopped steak is so thin, you can see through it in spots. 2nd- no bacon, and this super sad wilted half cooked piece of lettuce. No pickles either. They also threw in fries & apparently didn't charge me for the bacon burger, so even though she read me back my order, she still entered it wrong.I ate it b/c I was hungry & they hadn't charged me for the bacon. 3rd- no fork. How the eff am I supposed to eat a greasy as hell meat patty in a bowl? Especially to apply the condiments from the separate cups? Luckily, I had forks and knives in the car left over from other fast food restaurants. I won't go back there. Lackluster at best.

My son turned 14 and we told him he can eat anywhere he wanted and he picked Steak 'n Shake. We have the app that got us $5 off plus we had coupons saving us another $4. The food is always consistent and delicious. Don't substitute onion rings for fries as they tack on an up charge, instead get onion rings extra and save .39 cents. Shakes are awesome here and they have many flavored.

Sat in the drive thru for over 25 minutes. Never got my food because I was on my way somewhere and wanted something relatively fast. Finally had to give up when it became apparent that I was just going to have to skip a meal because these jokers can't get it together. I'm glad they make everything fresh, but I could have gone inside, had a waitress and finished my food in the time I just sat in the endless drive thru. Not even a lot of cars in front of me, they just make the food that slow. Never had this problem at other locations.

Greeted with a warm and friendly smile, then seated by Mariah. She also later was my waitress. She answered all my questions regarding items on the menu. While scanning the menu I was forced to listen to the cooks speak, laugh & joke loudly in Spanish with each other. I watched them continually working on the other side of the 1930's style open lunch counter. (As I later neared the counter I could hear why they were speaking loudly, other than working hard, was to be heard over the appliance fans. I ordered the Western BBQ 'N Bacon Steak burger with an extra slice of cheese, fries with cheese and a Coca Cola. The drink arrived folled by the food soon thereafter with the extra cheese on the burger but none on the fries. I reminded the waitress of this. The statement I heard seems so typical nowadays, "They always forget that." (Apparently she did too or she would not have brought it to me that way.) She immediately took it away and later returned with the liquid cheese on the thin cut fries. The bacon...about the size of 2/3 of a single thin slice. The two meat patties were fairly thin. Definately more bread than meat. The flavor was amazingly obvious though. Mariah checked on me about the meal. Upon finishing my meal I looked around and only saw one other table occupied. A while passed before I was checked on again to remove the dirty plate and refill my drink. Cooks heard saying puto & puta several times aloud. A good idea but fell short.

I had a very bad serviced at this place today. I placed an order and the cashier said the computer is rebooting, so have to rang me later. I said "ok, I will be right back. I have to leave and come back and pick it up!" Cashier said" okay" I returned 30mins later.. Manager said "sorry we did not make your order, we though you just left, we though you don't want the order anymore!!" Okay fine so I waited another 15mins for my order.. I recieved not a word apology. Finally I got my order, I asked for some pepper and ketchup.. Guess what they said?! Cashier said" what pepper?" The manager said " I got 1 pack ketchup, and that's all we got." Are you guys seriously?? This is how you guys treat customers?
