Absolute ratchetry. Got scolded by the woman at the window because I tried to pay with a $50. I was happy to give her a $20 instead, but she was not happy. At this point I started filming. As I took my drink from her, she accused me of snatching it (it's very clear in the video what actually happened). We had a great little chat and she refused to get the manager. Another woman in the kitchen who was much more polite and professional began to help us, that's why this review isn't a 1 star. While the experience was pretty hilarious, I wasn't there for entertainment.

I mean it's a Steak 'n Shake what more can you say? I went through the drive-through to get a milkshake. There was a long wait. I also ordered the mint cookies and cream shake, but was promptly told that they had run out of cookies for cookies and cream. So instead, I ordered the mocha shake. My shake did not taste like a mocha, in fact, it tasted like peppermint. I was really disappointed.

TLDR: Awesome food, terrible servers. As several reviews have already stated - the service is consistently poor. The kitchen crew is consistently fantastic. Food is always great. I think the servers need more training. One thing that slows everyone up is whenever a server has to use a computer. They always seem perplexed with the technology. Tonight was the first time I ever walked out. I was there 20 minutes and didn't even get to place a drink order.

Another solid and predictable experience at SnS. The restaurant was clean. The service was good for a Sunday afternoon. The foot came in a moderate time and the order was accurate. We ordered milk shakes and cookies on the way out. Everyone was friendly. Definitely a safe place for lunch.

Both the food quality and service were very good at this Steak 'n Shake. Our party had burgers and fries that were served quickly and reported hot. I had a delicious taco salad with fresh and crisp salad ingredients and well seasoned taco meat. A little more dressing than I like and will order on the side next time. Quality fast food.

I am receiving my order wrong because I didn't not say everything on my sandwich. The waitress replaced my sandwich right. When I paid last night should be over $6.00, I gave the new manager $10.00 however he did not give me back my change for $4.00. I think he is so mean and a theif. I really don't appreciate him and there will be no tip for the waitress. I will never go to that restaurant ever again!!!

Why do I keep coming back to you for punishment? It's like customer service S & M, all because I crave the mocha-caramel or salted caramel pretzel shake. Service is very inconsistent here, speaking from drive-thru experience only. I realize Steak n' Shake's average drive-thru wait is typically longer than the most fast food restaurants, but this particular location takes this fact to the extreme. One time, I gleefully pulled up to the drive-thru, with no line to deter me. After waiting 6-7 minutes and running my car back & forth over the car weight indicator thingy, there was still no acknowledgement from the order box; total silence. I was too passive to go inside and get someone's attention (hence Yelp), so just drove away. Other times, I'll get handed an order completely different from what I requested; when I bring up the mistake, I get the impression that it's my fault from the attendant. Also, I realize that Roger Ebert is...WAS a huge Steak n' Shake fan, but the drive-thru flyers posthumously advertising his "thumbs-up" and burger accolades always sadden me...especially when you spend 10-20 minutes staring at them while waiting for your order, and start thinking about how Ebert could never eat his beloved burgers again, only a liquid diet through a stomach tube, after his thyroid cancer. It does put your so-called "suffering" at the hands of Steak n' Shake's lax customer service in perspective though. Way to guilt trip me, Steak n' Shake.

The food is always good here but for some reason the service is horrible. We stood there for 15 minutes waiting to be seated and then when we were finally seated we waited another 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. The only reason someone stopped to get it was because we asked them if anyone was gonna wait on us.

Not the greatest service here ever. But, it's close to home. If you order chilli you always have to make sure they haven't spilled it all over the bowl and always need to request crackers. I do love that any sized iced tea $1. The food is typically as good as any steak n shake, but the service is really on of the worst.

Love steak n shake but...this one seems to have a load of problems. Out of the three times I've been in the drive through, I've only made it through once. Inevitably, something happens and they announce, "It's gonna be 5 to 10 minutes before we can take your order". F'real?! Wendy's is right across the street ya'll!! No need to wait 10 minutes !

I hit fast food places every once in awhile. I like Steak n Shake's menu but this location is terrible. I used to eat here once a month because it is close to my house and pretty cheap. It kept getting worse and worse until I was sick every time I ate there. The staff is usually pretty nice but the restaurant is dirty and the food is greasy. I have learned that you get what you pay for; spend a few extra bucks on lunch and eat at one of Broad Ripples unique restaurants instead.

Negative stars. Terrible terrible service. Rude attendant gave lip when my friend ordered a number three (frisco melt meal) according to THEIR menu. The waitress responded, "i dont know what a number three is and ive worked here for 14 years." Uh, what? She then turns and yells at the kitchen staff "what's a number three." This was at 11am on a sunday with a minimal crowd. Apparently they need better training om their menu and customer service.

I do like steak and shake but this location is not the best. Most of the time when we go to the drive thru no one ever answers. We went in once and I overheard the girl that worked there saying she just didn't feel like doing the drive thru so she didn't. The service is usually slow so be prepared for a wait. They have not really messed up our orders though so that's a plus!

I hate to say it, but this location has gone down hill in the last 6-8 months. Stopped by a few nights back for some cheese fries, which should be easy to get right. When I got the fries, not only was the portion very small, the plate had a brownish colored liquid under the fries. I imagine it was grease, but I have never seen that before. They replaced them, but it should not have happened in the first place. Also, I believe they have changed the chili recipe. The beans seem different, and the chili is much thinner. I won't be returning to this location again.

Yeah, it's just a Steak n Shake, but sometimes I get the cravings for those thin little patties and skinny little fries. I didn't have anty problem with service at this location, and the wait staff seemed to know almost everyone here -- like the clintele are all regulars -- which gave it a nice kind of feel.

I don't get why this place has such horrible reviews. If I had to rate all of my experiences at fast food joints this would be number one. Granted this was my first time having Steak n' Shake or any type of sit down/ wait service at one. Living in California we dont have any there. My husband has been raving about it for over a year. It was pretty much our first stop when we got to Indianapolis. The atmosphere was clean and nicely decorated in a diner style. All servers and cooks had on uniforms and were very friendly. Our waitress waited for my indecisive self to figure out what I wanted. Since its in the name I had to also get a shake. For the amount of food you get the price was perfect! And the shake was humongous great to share with someone. I am picky with my shakes and although it tasted good, it wasn't as thick as I would have liked. Overall the food was ok. What you'd expect fast food to be like. As always you get what you pay for.

I don't know how many more times I'll allow myself to eat at Steak 'n Shake before I throw in the towel. On the bright side, at least at this location the people who worked there were quick to get me my order. The food, though, is just lacking in taste and quality.

I think this Steak and Shaker needs to go on a hiring spree! This is the second time my boyfriend and I have been here and they are so slow due to low staffing. I love steak & shake but this wait is ridiculous.

I love Steak 'n Shake. It literally holds my heart, but even though I don't eat there as often as I used to, in my unhealthy days, I would literally pass this one to go to the next closest one. The service was consistently sub-par and they were always out of chocolate chip cookies! What more can I say?

Can't say I've ever had slow service at this location. The food is consistently good & freshly made, they're always open, & employees are friendly & attentive. This is my neighborhood's 24 hour go-to spot to eat, no matter what state of sobriety we happen to be in. If there's ever a debate on where to go, you just mention Steak n Shake & there's instant agreement.

While I love a good Steak 'n Shake milkshake, I will not be getting over to Steak 'n Shake for a good long while. After waiting 20 minutes in the drive thru line (ok, I get it everything is made fresh, and I'm willing to wait.) I get up to the window with the coupon that I TOLD the lady taking my order that I had, and she proceeds to ROLL HER EYES at me and "go get the manager" ok, so I'm already pretty over it at this point, the manager comes over, does not say one word to me, snatches my phone (with the coupon on it) and is a total jerk about the whole thing. If you don't want people to use coupons, don't put them out. The service was the worst I've experienced in a while and shame on the manager for condoning such bad behavior!

I come to this location fairly often and have never had a problem. True, they are not the fastest drive through in the world, but isn't that why you're at Steak N Shake to begin with and not McDonald's? Their regular steakburgers hit the spot like nothing else quite does, and the chocolate shakes- well, they are really good chocolate shakes.
