Very disappointing with service and food well below expectations. Being an experienced traveler visiting 5 star hotels and restaurants around the world my expectations were high and confident my 25th anniversary would be incredible at the prestigious Ruth Chris. Yelp it was bad and for the price EXTREMELY bad. My wife, child, and I ordered a filet, strip, and a ribeye with mushrooms, salads, two sides - au gratin potatoes and asparagus, and a bottle of Don Perignon - yelp $500+ dinner. The interesting concept is multiple servers to present redundant information and then confuse the patron with no accountability. The specials were described twice and the wait staff lost...finally ordered and the food delivered by yet more staff. The frequency and timing of service attending the table was way off even with too many staff members - too frequent saying the same thing then absent. Well the mushrooms were cold and my daughters filet cold....so escalation occurred and some mgr acted like he cared and took my entire plate ...gone...and of course a new person returned with the plate and wallah now the mushrooms were hot and to make matters worse the steak overcooked - gad - a $50+ dollar steak now prepared as a hamburger cooked well. They must have just put the whole plate back in the oven given the time it took....do you send it back again ?....no just eat. Well of course now the time has passed the flavorless potatoes were cold as well as the asparagus....of course no mgr seen again or a request for feedback on the experience!!! I could have provided valuable customer feedback for improvement to maybe help the next customer experience. Oh well so much for the bubble burst and severe let down...I will certainly consider this experience in future celebrations and choose wisely. Greg F

our favorite indy steak house. really professional & friendly service. great food quality. its dressy - but they don't care if you're not. we don't like the decor of this particular ruth's chris as well as downtown chicago, or phoenix - but still - the food and service are wonderful. something about those cobalt blue lights doesn't seem right.

If you've been to a Ruth's Chris, you know they have fantastic steaks, great service, relaxing live piano music... The prices can be steep, but a couple of hundred bucks for a bottle of wine, an app., and a couple of steaks at Ruth's Chris, makes it well worth it.

What to say? Pretty good. It helps that their mixed drinks are served in small buckets. Our asparagus was severely over cooked on our last visit. My steak was awesome though...cooked perfectly. I love the au poivre sauce!

Steak and service was Excellent. The only surprise was the Grey Goose and Tonic. $23!!! Come on man!! Would return again, but watch the drinking while there.

So, I like the food at Ruth's Chris, besides one of my chef friend's refusal to pay $5-plus for a side of potato or broccoli. But every time I've had scallops here, they've been cooked perfectly, not rubbery--a feat, even for fine dining restaurants. I like this downtown location so much more than the northside one. Lots of Indianapolis big wigs made this a watering hole stop, and all say hello to each other around the bar. The piano guy is right in the middle of the action. Best of all, sometimes they'll give you free chips--though, admittedly, the chips are often undercooked. The garlicky sauce they come with is good though. Expect to pony up for drinks, except on certain happy hour days, when martinis go for less than two digits.

We have been coming here for years. On a recent visit (8/2012), the filet mignons and creamed spinach were still awesome, but the au gratin potatoes were changed: they used to be diced with a nice cheese sauce, now they're just sliced with cheese sprinkled on and melted. A step backward for a fine restaurant.

The place is way to tight and I always seem like I have been jammed in a closet. The rep is much greater then the place! Number 1 it's a chain and it's a good one but a chain none the less! The steaks are good and the sides are huge. I have always felt that I was get service based on the day I was there, and not for my return, I believe that a place that is trying to get you hooked for return after return is the staff that is doing it job, food is food but a great staff is hard to come by. The other Ruth Chris is a bigger place and I DON'T FEEL AS JAMMED. Remember to eat well and live well! And please no chain's!

This place literally changed my life. Literally. Back in, oh, 1996, I think it was... I came to Indy for a reunion celebration of the ABA (American Basketball Association). Anyway, I had a great time with one of my best friends in the world (Mason) and we were just kind of chillin' out most of the time. Well, anyway... On the last night we were hanging out in the lobby with Dr. J, George Gervin, Bob Costas and some of the other guys (well, we weren't 'with' them... but we were in the same lobby!) and we overheard them talking about where they'd go to dinner. Dr. J suggested Ruth's Chris. They all agreed. We said 'F it!" I'd never been to a steakhouse. Growing up, I thought that Denny's was fine dining (to be fair, it used to be better); I had the steak. It changed my life. I have never looked back. I can't really accurately describe what an impact it had on me. This place has great beef, great sides and great desserts. The only draw-back is that it's a chain and is a little sterile because of it. Whatever. It's great.

My wife and I went on a very busy Friday night. We had reservations and were seated right on time. Ruth's was participating in the Devour Downtown event and we both decided to order off the special menu. The menu was small and focused and quite good. We both thought that if we had ordered off the regular menu, that we could have split the meal and had plenty of food. In other words, the Devour menu was the perfect amount and very tasty. My wife had the steak and I had the chicken. We split the two sides offered and even had room for the little cheescake with the chocolate bark. The wine list was ok, too many wines that you can find everywhere, but we managed to find a nice little Cabernet Franc from Steele for under $50. Very nice, 2007 vintage and drinking great. We even took the 1/3 of a bottle that we did not drink home with us. All wrapped up in a nice little Ruth's Chris bag. Service was very good. Seasoned waiters with help filling the water and trying to replace the bread and butter. Great value for the evening and we were in and out in less that an hour without feeling rushed.

Damn. Ruth's Chris makes a mean filet, served up on a fiery plate full of butter. Mmmhhmmm! To me, this is the best steak house in town - I'd Ruth's Chris for the food, the atmosphere and the service over what you'll get at St. Elmo any day. Sure, the prices make it a special occasion restaurant if you're in my tax bracket, but you won't be disappointed with what you'll experience at Ruth's Chris!

Great service, great food. Bearnaise sauce good enough to almost drink off the plate. I am not a huge asparagus fan, but I cannot resist with that sauce!

  • Jared B.

Ruth Chris's is delicious but slightly overpriced in my humble opinion. The cuts of steak are huge and slathered in juice and butter, and the the sides are equally enormous. The baked potatoes are the size of footballs. Ruth Chris's isn't bad for an evening if you'd like to impress a group and you want to keep your food choices conservative. It's everything you expect your typical 4 star steakhouse to be, and nothing more.

I bet if this same exact restaurant was put in an alley somewhere and called Joe's Hole in the Wall Steaks, my buddy Jared (see review below) would have been raving like an ecstasy addict. The place is top notch! The service is fantastic (as you can always count on from Ruth's Chris) and the fillet makes me thank God every day that I'm alive. Ask the waiter for a glass of the best red wine there is and pound a few of them while you devour a steak that will give you life again.

Keep it simple, keep it real! Ruth Chris might be a chain but you know you can't go wrong with your dinner here. I've been here three times and one thing I know they are very consistent with the quality of food. I'll start with the ambience; 8/10 only because I don't like dim lit places very much. Service 10/10 very warm and friendly. The best thing is, despite being a steakhouse they do not have a very strict dress code. We called them for a reservation literally minutes before going and they were able to accommodate us. We were in our biking attire (read: half shorts and t shirts) yet no one made us feel uncomfortable, of course that was our idea of a romantic date -_- We ordered a salad with tomato bisque both were pretty decent but I'd much rather have the soup. For our main course we kept it simple and went with the filet 6oz. The medium rare was simply excellent! Not too tender and not too raw just about right. Sitting in the sizzling hot plate, served with onions, this steak was clearly a master piece. The mashed potatoes side is probably the best I've had. Although the creamed spinach wasn't half as bad but the potatoes stole the show. Our dessert was the cheesecake which obviously was a wonderful delight. I hope to return soon and I know I'll order the exact same stuff because Ruth Chris is all about consistency;)

I will start out by saying that Ruth's is expensive, but the food is good and the service is even better. They've got some world class bartenders/servers and I loved sitting at the bar, listening to Kenny play piano. I went with a few girlfriends. They got wine, and I got a delicious strawberry mule to drink. We ordered asparagus fries and carpaccio for appetizers- both were AMAZING. I personally liked the carpaccio better than the asparagus, but I'm a meat lover. For my entree, I got the bar fillet and OMG was it amazing! Best filet I've ever had. Cooked to perfection! It was topped by a generous amount of fresh crab meat and topped with a béarnaise sauce. I couldn't have been happier. The three of us shared loaded fries as a side, but we couldn't even get most of the way through them. It was a huge portion! I definitely recommend this place. Treat yourself or a loved one to dinner here for a special occasion. You won't regret it!

Wanted to treat myself so I came here on a recommendation. Place was packed so had to sit at the bar. Which actually didn't bother me. Sat right next to the pianist and could enjoy a good selection of classy tunes. Service was great and attentive. Food was excellent taste wise. Decore nice and classy. Drinks menu in the bar is extensive and well prepared. Two small things to be aware of. It is a classy place and you pay for it. And are repaided with good service and nice food. Entrees could come with one side at least i'd say. All in all pretty nice place if you want to treat yourself, and/or someone else.

I treated my husband to Indy for a birthday trip. He loves steak and so I decided we should go to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse since it came highly recommended. I made a reservation for 7:30pm a week before but called 2 days prior to push it back to 8pm and they were able to accommodate that easily. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown Indianapolis and easy to find. When I made the reservation I told them it was my husband's birthday and when they sat us, our hostess told him happy birthday and our waitress! I was so impressed! Also before our dessert our waitress brought out plate that had "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate and 2 chocolate covered strawberries! They were so good! For the food. Now I LOVE steak and am pretty picky about it. However this was the BEST steak I have ever had in my life...ever! The steak was good perfectly and so juicy and tender! It was heaven in my mouth! I can't stop thinking about how good it was! My husband and I both got the Prix Fixe menu which came with an appetizer, entree, side & dessert (strawberry shortcake). I got the steak salad, 6oz filet & shrimp & creamed spinach. My husband got the chicken & sausage gumbo, 6oz filet & shrimp & mashed potatoes. Our total was just under $100 which I thought was reasonable for what we got. We will definitely be going again. If you haven't been, you are truly missing out!

The butter injected chicken is probably in the top 10 best meats I've ever eaten. They had a fish special once that was decent. I wish it was on their menu. The food is great, the service is excellent. Classy, sophisticated and elegant. What's not to love.

Me and my lovely girlfriend had a wonderful time dining at this beautiful establishment. From start to finish, the service was amazing. The meal came out exactly as we had ordered it, most amazing steak we have ever eaten!!! And while our waitress was walking by, my girlfriend had mentioned in passing that my birthday was a week before, and they gave me a free dessert on the house without hesitation. Definitely deserving of a 5 star rating, and will be returning for all of our special occasions!

Amazing food, service, and dining overall. We went here on a date for my birthday and I was blown away. The filet I ordered was cooked to perfection and the service couldn't have been better. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a romantic date and a restaurant that won't disappoint.

The food is always incredible here. I highly recommend the sweet potato side dish--a must order! The steaks are served sizzling in butter, giving the restaurant a simply heavenly aroma. I just wish it was a little less expensive. A meal for two including one drink each is easily over $100.

Ruth's Chris is known for delicious steaks, neat service, and just an overall fine dining experience. And they have that reputation for a reason. I've never been disappointed at a Ruth's Chris and this one didn't let me down. We came here for an event at work, which helped get us even more attentive service. The appetizers were wonderful - calamari, Ahi tuna, and stuffed mushrooms. Then the filet with mashed potatoes and mushrooms on the side... oh so good. People debate which is the best steakhouse in Indy, and I say let 'em. All I know is that it's hard to go wrong with Ruth's Chris - they've got a well-earned reputation for quality and don't disappoint. Don't hesitate to give them a shot next time you're feeling like a spiffy steak dinner.

How have I been working in Indianapolis for almost two years (off and on) without coming to Ruth's Chris? This is a solid steakhouse option that everyone should give a try in Indianapolis. Ultimately, I wouldn't say it's better than some of the local favorites (I.e., St. Elmo's), but you can't go wrong with a visit here. They give you an iPad menu to choose your drinks. That's cool and hip and all, but makes it a tiny bit difficult to compare two items quickly. Then they offer you delicious warm bread. Then your appetizer comes out and, if it's like ours, it is a delicious beef carpaccio. I was impressed by the combo of beef, Parmesan, and lettuce; I didn't particularly care for the flavored bread, but overall it was an ok appetizer. Their entrees: served on a 500 degree plate with a half tablespoon (or tablespoon?!) of butter - how can you POSSIBLY go wrong?! (Actually, the occasional smell of burned butter throughout the meal wasn't my favorite, and apparently I didn't cover my shirt well enough because I definitely have some stains...). Anyway, the filet was phenomenal. I especially recommend the au povoire sauce (peppercorn) and the mashed potato side. You're certainly not signing up for a healthy meal, but you're getting some yummy and consistent food here!

How have I not reviewed Ruth's Chris yet!?! Bestill my heart Ruth's Chris, you are my knight in shining armor, my light at the end of the tunnel, my golden steak amazingness at the end of the rainbow, my...okay, you get the drift. But seriously folks in my 30 something years, I have to say that this is consistently the best steak I have ever consumed. I am usually a big proponent of eating locally or in restaurants that aren't chains, but this is one of my guilty pleasures and I like to think that it is a chain for a good reason...It. Is. Superb. It's expensive, obviously, but I always make sure that as soon as Devour Downtown dates are up I make a reservation (or 2) to indulge in food heaven. IF you can stay away from ordering drinks (which I never can when there is Dr. Loosen Blue Slate on the wine list) you can definitely get out under $100 for 2 during Devour. I always get the filet and I am a huge fan of adding on the Blue Cheese crust. There is something about steak and blue cheese sizzling on my plate at 500 degrees that makes me smile :) I've also had the Voodoo Shrimp as an add on to my filet and found it to be quite good, though almost a bit too distracting from the flavor of the steak. I will say that I don't really find the atmosphere to be all that romantic. The weird blue led candle lighting is cheesy and the smaller, more private, rooms are actually louder and less relaxing than the larger seating areas, fyi.

If you've got a C-note or two burning a hole in your pocket and want a damn fine steak, look no further than Ruth's Chris. For the same price, I strongly prefer Fogo De Chao, but that does not mean my experience at Ruth's Chris was negative by any stretch of the imagination. The food is top-notch outstanding, but it is very, very pricy. Great for a date, had a great time, but my mainstays are elsewhere. I recommend trying them at least once though!

As far as chains go, I really like Ruth's Chris for fancy dinners and special occasions. I've visited ones in various cities, and this one is by far the best decorated. Its modern, clean lines really lend it an air of sophistication instead of just the "old boy" feel of some steakhouses, where you feel like you're walking on carpet that's seen generations of shoes and spills (ew). Entering and immediately seeing the bar before the hostess stand is a little odd, but I'm sure it's efficient in some aspect. The service here was excellent. Dishes were timed well, water glasses were always filled, plates taken away in a timely fashion. Some restaurants suffer from being chronically understaffed; this is not one of them. The food was, as always, phenomenal. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want a steak dinner that doesn't cost 50 bucks, go to Golden Corral. My steak was maybe a little more on the rare side of medium rare, but I'd very much rather have it a little under-done than over. Either way, it was still hot, sizzling, and delicious when it came out on that plate of melty butter. Those steaks make such a lovely sound, really. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. And boy, was it tender! Just gorgeous. Oh yeah, I ate things other than steak, too. The sweet potatoes are amaze--that crusty pecan and sugar topping makes 'em better than the Thanksgiving kind (don't tell my grandma). Asparagus and hollandaise was also a favorite at our table. And then, somehow, I crammed dessert into my stomach... Probably because the chocolate mousse cake was SO light and yet simultaneously rich. I got about four bites in before I had to throw in the towel. ALWAYS share dessert here, unless you didn't eat all of your steak or ordered something silly like a salad, in which case, what is wrong with you??? Come here. Eat steak. Love your life.

I had my groomsmen here for my bachelor weekend in Indianapolis. They never fail to amaze me here. We had awesome service!!!!! Our server directed us to a cigar bar down the way and was knowledgable about the food. We all had filets and they were well worth the money. You can literally cut into a medium rare steak with your fork, no knife needed! Best filet in town without a doubt!

WOW! I ate at Ruth's Chris about 2 months ago, and always wanted to make it to a good quality steakhouse, well, I found it! I had the bone-in Filet Mignon which was served to me on a plate with the steak searing in butter, perfectly cooked medium filet that tasted heavenly. IMO better than any other steak I have had to this point in my life. I like the generous portions of side dishes too, like a good sized bowl of mashed potatoes, and even down to the semi-private booths/tables seemed to have everything and anything covered. Truly a 5-star dining experience.

We went to Ruth's Chris for our anniversary dinner. We did not tell them in advance that is was our anniversary. The hostess asked us what we were celebrating and promptly took us to our table. When we got to the table, there were rose petals on the table- great touch! We had the lobster bisque and seared ahi to start. The bisque is pure heaven and the ahi was great too. My wife had the surf and turf which is a filet and and a crab cake. The filet was perfect, of course and the crab cake was good. I had the ribeye which was awesome. We also had broccoli au gratin and sweet potato casserole. Both were wonderful. The sweet potato casserole could be a dessert. We didn't have room for dessert but our server brought us two chocolate covered strawberries on a plate that said "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate- another great touch. The service was great of course and it was an overall excellent experience.

I cannot believe that I haven't eaten here before. As a steak lover I feel cheated out of the time spent at other steak restaurants when I could have enjoyed the deliciousness of Ruth Chris. I started my meal with a Crabtini, lump crabmeat served with a vinaigrette, and a horseradish sauce. Very tasty! Salad and sides were as expected, not bad, but not extraordinary either. The 11 oz. filet was the greatest piece of meat I've ever tasted. Served on a sizzling plate it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Melted in my mouth and left my taste buds wanting more. I'll definitely be going back!

Can I just start out by saying, I am not a hardcore carnivore. On any given day, I would pass on a steak and take the spaghetti dish instead. All that said, this petite filet changed my life. I came to Ruth's with a few friends for drinks, which eventually progressed to dinner. I almost didn't order a steak, just because I felt like for the $$$, it would be wasted on me. My hubby eventually convinced me to just go for it and and I'm so glad he did. I probably made a lot of embarrassing "ohhs" and "ugghhhs" while I was eating but who cares. Creamed spinach was also outstanding and the perfect compliment to my meal. I definitely hope to return someday! : )

I love Ruth's Chris. The sizzle, perfect dry-aged ribeye, utter perfection. One thing I love about this chain is the consistency on how awesome their food is. From the bread, the mashed potatoes, my fave ribeye, down to the creme brulee. I've been to so many steakhouses (that only serves prime dry aged meat) and I always end up to Ruth's Chris.

Went to Ruths Chris for a quick lunch of some steak sliders while in town for a convention. The meat was tough and rather...buttery? Maybe greasy? Either way, my quick lunch made me quite ill and I missed the second half of the convention that day in favor of going back to my room to feel like death. Never again. On the plus side, my experience swayed the opinion of my group a few nights later and we went to St. Elmo's. Best steak I've ever eaten.

I admit, my reviews usually put me in the "how is she here?!" range for Ruth's Chris. But this was a (surprisingly) special family dinner/celebration on the weekend of Peyton Manning's Return. I'd never been to a RCSH before and I was certainly impressed. I was the first to arrive for our party of 11. The hostesses gave us time to head to the bar and get a drink before sitting down instead of rushing us to our seat. I definitely knew I was home with the overwhelming smell of cooked meat. Service was a little spotty at times - we didn't expect to be sitting at dinner for 3 hours, 30-45min which was my estimate of how long we had to wait for a server to a)refill drinks b)take our order c) grab the check. However a (suited) manager apologized towards the end & tried to make sure everything was prompt during desserts/post-dinner drinks. Dinner confirmed that I am a carnivore and will never stray from meat. My filet was cooked PERFECTLY (as I was hoping) and was the first time I didn't feel a need to use steak sauce/ketchup/etc for my meat. Our shared sides were amazing as well. I cannot cannot WAIT to go back. **oh and the surprise was that my cousin announced she & her hubby are preggo :):):)**

Very disappointed. The food was good, but not for the price. I've definitely had better. This was my first time at a Ruth Chris and I probably won't be back. My husband took me here for my birthday (which I thought was wonderful) so I was anticipating a beautiful dinner. The décor is great. Its romantic but the food fell short of my expectations. My husband's steak was game-y tasting. My scallops were delicious, but not for $30+. I have to like the whole experience. So I'm sorry I won't go back. I don't know maybe I'll have something else. I thought Ruth Chris was known for its steaks, but I wouldn't have another one. Sorry, not impressed.

I went with a group of eight for a graduation ceremony. Some of the party was late but the hostess was awesome and made accommodations for our late arrival. Hash browns are a must here. I know you are thinking that hash browns are about as ordinary as a school lunch. But these are not the lunch ladies hash browns. Try them and I will be surprised if you don't agree that they are a must. The creamed spinach was good and the asparugus too. But the star of the dinner was the sirloin. How they prepare a steak so perfectly with heat that is so intense is beyond me. I consider it to be a bit of a miracle since my steak was phenomenal. The plate arrives scorching hot so beware and don't touch. If you visit, I hope your experience was as good as mine.

Made reservations for 8 and ended up being two of us and they were very understanding and accommodating. Positives: The entire staff including our server "Washington" was awesome. Girlfriend had the petite filet oscar style minus crab so just asparagus and bernaise ordered medium plus. It arrived PERFECT and is still the best prepared filet downtown in my opinion. If you think Elmo's is the best than you should try a prime steak and get over the hype and your unexperienced opinion. Potatoes Au gratin were excellent as well. The server as well as the women host manager who I recognize from being there a long time were absolutely awesome and made my girlfriends birthday memorable. She loved it. They were very nice to her. Also got chocolate covered strawberries for bday. Negatives: Stick to steaks! I had the swordfish special and got the Oscar style crab from girlfriends dish put on top.. I took first bite and the crab meat was chilled. Server took back and returned with what I'm guessing is a reheated dish. The best thing about the swordfish was the fruit and squash because the rest had zero flavor. I had to order Bernaise on the side to get through the dish. The risotto i thought was supposed to be a crispy cake was a mushy pile and very bland. I really don't understand why most steak houses think bland is better on non steak dishes. What's with the blue lights? They are annoying, don't match, and cheapen the atmosphere in my opinion. Switch out for red or white. Sell these to 45 degrees with their space age feel. Is this a Ruth's local thing or corporate? STOP putting sauce on fried appetizers. Calamari comes out soggy and pre sauced. Which I have never seen and don't understand. Crab cakes. I wouldn't order again. Crab cakes are very evenly cooked and i prefer the outside to have a crisp with inside being softer. Lemon butter tasted like butter and needed served with a lemon. Bread? Elmo's has great bread you should too. White french bread is boring or whatever it is. Stick to steaks enjoy the staff and you will have a great experience but It will cost you. $130 after tip for app, steak, fish, potatoes gratin, and no drinks. I can think of some new local spots that offer a better value and tastebud experience but if you want a melt in your mouth filet, great service, and a romantic atmosphere or casual "in the bar" go to Ruth's over the other steak guys downtown.

My boyfriend and I went here for our 1 year anniversary and everything was great! Neither of us had been there before and our server Lafayette treated us like royalty. He was knowledgable but wasn't excessively chatty which is perfect! The attention to detail was fabulous including the rose petals that were on our table upon arriving to our reservation. The manager also did a table visit, told us happy anniversary and made sure we had everything we needed. As for the food, I ordered the filet and my boyfriend got the NY strip. We both agreed that the filet tasted better overall. Drinks were great, food was great, and the service was great. Kudos to Lafayette for making us feel special and being amazing at his job!

This is by far the best steakhouse in Indianapolis, I've dined them all. The location, atmosphere, service, and quality of food is unsurpassed. I have dined at this location 15-20 times the past 2 years and it never lets me down. The portions are huge so manage your appetite accordingly but save room for dessert and get a piece of their carrot cake or chocolate lava cake. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, be prepared to spend around $75-$100 a person if you plan on doing an app and dessert.

My favourite downtown steak house in Indy, it's my last night in town and this is a great place to spend it. High end, high quality, you pay for what you get. We sit at the bar and the food tastes just as good.

My meal was well prepared with the freshest ingredients. The service was as hot and sizzling as the plate my steak came on. I want a birthday every night!

My husband's brother and his wife gave us a gift card as a wedding gift, so we finally used it last weekend. I love steak. I love the atmosphere of a good steak house. It's just that, well, I always feel like I'm getting ripped off. I know, I know, you are paying for the atmosphere and the service, but still. That being said, service was fantastic. I even appreciated the smooth way in which our waiter corrected the junior server, when he tried to take away the wrong plates. Our waiter checked in on us during dinner as did 2 other people. While that might sound intrusive, it really wasn't. We were there during the basketball tournament, so everyone seemed surprised when we said we live downtown. I'm sure they're used to more of a business/tourist crowd. We ordered the porterhouse for two, potatoes lyonaisse, onion rings and a bottle of red wine. Because it was my husband's birthday weekend, they brought a complimentary dessert of a chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. All in all, with tip, the bill was just shy of $230. Granted, we could have saved ourselves $50-some by not ordering wine, but what is the fun in that? Thankfully I had our receipt handy, because the mall garage was charging $20 for parking, due to the tournament, but they only charged us $2. Would Ruth's Chris be a destination? Nah. But I enjoyed the experience and we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

I was in here a while back Ordered Rib Eye-Medium Rare It was presented a bit overcooked and lacked good flavors. I thought to myself then, I can have a much better steak at Cool Hand Lukes.

We had a celebratory dinner here. It was maybe 4-4.5 stars we all thought. The wife and I shared the porterhouse steak for 2, medium. It was quite nice, but salty from over seasoning, and we actually could have done without the butter on the signature sizzling hot plate. Pretty good with the two cuts of meat on each side of the bone (filet and NY strip), but those taste tweeks kept the rating off of 5 stars. Son enjoyed his rare cowboy ribeye - very good but not the best ever. Daughter had a petite filet medium. The requested temperatures all came out good this time (the usual one notch cooler at these fine dining places). This Ruth's Chris is also quite roomy with several dining areas. You can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris for a special dinner, but it just wasn't 5 stars for us on this night.

Love Ruth Chris Indy downtown. Love the bar area, though door lets in a lot of cold air in winter time. Excellent wine list. Steaks are consistently good...500 degree plates. Sides could be better seasoned, but overall good. Taste of Indy this week, prix fix menu $35 per person, includes salad or soup, entree, side, and dessert!

Best steak I've ever had. The place is upscale and classy with excellent and remarkably fast service. Plan on dropping $150 for two people however. Make a reservation well in advance.

Ahhhhmaziiing!!! We happened to wander in while walking downtown. I was sure there was a dress code but had never been. In t-shirts and jeans my boyfriend insisted we go for it. It was his birthday so I walked in with him. No problem getting in. I had butterflies in my stomach as I had always wanted to try it. The experience was nothing short of amazing. The steaks were like butter and could have been cut with a spoon. Outstanding food and service. We received beads and a free creme brulee with a candle for his birthday. We felt like king and queens. It was expensive but worth it. I guarantee you will love it.

OK it is a chain. OK it is expensive. But they are my favorite Downtown Indy steak experience. No bogus presentation of all dining options at the table. Great steaks. Decent sides. A good wine list and solid friendly service. I enjoyed the Tuna Stack this time but the petite filet is my go to dish. The tuna was rare and fine. The sauce was not strong but was really good. I urge you not to try the Steele Cabernet Franc - save it for me.

Ordered a cowboy ribeye with lobster side: got regular ribeye, no lobster side. My buddy ordered cowboy ribeye with blue cheese crust, got cowboy rib, no blue cheese crust. Son ordered lamb chops: said it had no taste. The sautéed mushrooms were obviously canned. The asparagus was bland. The coffee arrived ice cold. So did the replacement cup of coffee. Tragically, the upside down cake arrived broken and cold. I like breaking my own upside down cake, thank you very much. Very disappointing. No star here.

Superb experience! I have always been fond of this establishment - which my sorority sister and I affectionately call "Ruth Chrissie's". Stopped in for a light dinner close to eight with a friend while in town for business. Everything was wonderful and the service was excellent. Attempting to get out of my box, I allowed the server to recommend for me- and he clearly knew the menu well. I had the harvest salad which was well put together in terms of the flavor combination- the taste was wonderful. Pecans, mixed greens, cranberries, goat cheese and more!!! The wine selection offered a great deal of diversity and I enjoyed a rich and robust Pinot noir. My entree was the tuna ahi app - wonderful flavor and seared just right. The deal sealer of course was desert. We shared the carrot cake which was moist, rich and satiating. To be remembered. I attribute the exemplary nature of the experience to our server- Mike- he was attentive, friendly and well versed on the menu. Each of his recommendations were on point. A great way to end the evening and close out my trip.

Went to Ruth's Chris last night for their Devour Downtown menu. $30 for an appetizer, steak, and dessert....can't beat that! Had the seafood gumbo first. Was OK. Good flavor, but not spicy enough. Had the 10 oz. ribeye (medium rare) for my entree. Steaks at Ruth's Chris come out on a 500 degree plate doused in butter(!). USDA Prime quality. Nice marble with plenty of fat to render.

Oh. My. Word. If you've been in Indy for any length of time, treat yourself and stop in here for some awesome steak! Seriously the best steak I've ever had. The boyfriend was equally impressed, and he has been to France. We decided on this place for our weekly date, especially for the Devour Downtown menu ($30/person), and Rob said he's always wanted to try their steak. This was a DIVINE dining experience with top notch service, and a wonderfully simple menu. There are three courses on the DD menu: starter, entrée, and dessert. The portions were very generous, and everything was beyond fresh and delicious. We started with house salads - it was mostly baby spinach, which I love; none of that stupid iceberg lettuce. Dressings were amazing. For my entrée, I had a 6 oz. filet, medium, with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The filet melted in my mouth, and it was as big as both of my fists put together. The sides were large enough that we shared the broccoli. He had the 10 oz rib-eye, Pittsburg-style medium, and it was equally delectable. Finally, we had cheesecake for dessert - the size of a cupcake, but that was plenty! It was topped with fruit and a side of dark chocolate bark with nuts and sea salt. We continuously complimented the food as we ate; just savoring the beautiful taste of proper fine dining. The waiter was beyond polite, referring to me as "the lady" and him as "sir", clearing our table at each course. The service as a whole was sufficient with the right balance of attention to our needs. This restaurant exceeded my expectations, and really satisfied us both in every way.

I've previous had dinner at other locations and was always impressed. But the Indianapolis location was heads above the rest. Reservations on line were easy, and the staff used my name throughout the meal because of it. They decorated tables with rose pedals for anniversaries. The decor was nice but a little disjointed. Our waiter, Corbin, was one of the best I've seen. His team did a great job with keeping drinks full, and clearing the table. But it was more the perfect level of attention which is what you would expect. We also talked to two managers which may have been a bit much. My wife had the filet which was perfect. I had the Strip, which was trimmed well. THe food was excellent and we had no complaints. The valet service was great too.

I believe this is my last stop in downtown Indianapolis for Steak. I have tried St.Elmo's, Morton's Shula's, Capital Grill, Weber, etc. I was ready to try the place that has PRIME written on the door as you walk in. We decided to try the Seasonal Classics three course meal. We both selected the "Fresh crisp romaine hearts tossed with romano cheese and a creamy Caesar dressing. Topped with shaved parmesean cheese and fresh ground black pepper." My wife went for the "6-ounce medallion of our filet topped with jumbo shrimp", while I had the 9-ounce filet. We accompanied our steaks with their signature mashed potatoes. For dessert, we had the duo of Cheesecake and Chocolate Pecan Bark. After we placed our order, I excused myself to wash my hands and when I returned, I found my napkin folded into a swan. I thought that was fun! We were first delivered a fresh from the oven french baguette with a side of whipped butter. This bread almost kept me from enjoying the rest of my meal. It was so good. The sound of the crackling when you broke it apart even now makes my mouth water. The steaks came out sizzling topped with butter. We were warned that the plates were very hot. The first bite was amazing. Very juicy and tender. I ordered it medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection. This steak was very different. It was hot from the first bite to the last bite. I asked how they prepared it and was told they have an 1,800 degree oven. I don't know if that is a gimmick, but the results left me very pleased. I only had a few bites of the potatoes because the steak was distracting me. I did have one shrimp, a generous donation from my wife. It was spicy and a good compliment to to steak. The dessert was a nice portion. It could have been split by the two of us, so we ended up taking some of it home. Overall Ruth's Chris has been wonderful and I look forward to returning.

Ruth's Chris is always a consistently great choice. Their steaks are top quality and the atmosphere is friendly. The starter harvest salad was great, My ribeye was seasoned and cooked perfectly, the broccoli au gratin was also pretty tasty. I ate at the bar tonight and they had a very skilled piano player and sweet friendly bartender (Renee). Everything was good the only reason I don't give a five is I reserve those for something truly outstanding and unique. This place is fantastic but doesn't quote have that.

Ruth's Chris is the classic steak house. Rich woods, white table cloths and noisy ambiance. Started the meal off with lobster bisque. It was rich and decadent as you'd expect but I've had better. The soup was followed with the chopped salad. It's a "julienne iceberg lettuce, baby spinach and radicchio are tossed with red onions, mushrooms, green olives, bacon, eggs, hearts of palm, croutons, bleu cheese, lemon basil dressing and then topped with crispy onions." OMG this salad is a was *amazing*!!!!! I would literally come back just for this. My main course was the filet with char butter (a spicy butter?) and it was excellent. That night and the next (as you can see, I completely overindulged!). My table shared the mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and creamed spinach as sides. I judge establishments by their restrooms. I expected this Ruth Chris's to be extremely nice but what I found was about on par with what I would expect at a fast food chain. Fix up the bathroom and that 5th star could be yours.

I'm usually not a big fan of Ruth's Chris. This one is probably the best I've been to. Food was perfect and the service was great. I was with a large group, and the back room felt a little cramped. The lighting was also way too dim. All things considered, it was a great experience.

Three of us and it just doesn't disappoint on any level. The Staff, the ambiance, the food! We eat here two times a year and it is always an enjoyable experience. We have never had a steak that we didn't rave about.

Had a great 10 oz ribeye here tonight cooked perfectly rare+ accompanied by creamed spinach, a cup of tomato basil soup to start and a mini cheesecake for dessert. I had to wait awhile after I was first seated, but another server came over, apologized for the wait, informed me that my server was a little busy and picked up the slack. Good job on team service and the food was fabulous!

Ahhhh.... Ruth's Chris! This was a business function/grazing event. I had bits of the following: Creamed spinach - there's is the best anywhere. Lyonnaise potatoes - ditto. Sweet potato casserole - vanilla and caramel heaven! Calamari - REALLY good, among the best I have had anywhere. Stuffed mushrooms - ditto. Seared Ahi - OK... but not something I'd do here again. My entrée was Sea Bass. Horrific price at $47 but terribly delicious. A small glass of berries and cream for dessert was delicious and totally unnecessary!!! For a special meal it is hard to beat Ruth's Chris.

Meh is a frequently overused word, but I really feel like it is appropriate in this case. How was your experience at Ruth's Chris, DeAnna? Meh. I am a huge fan of butter. Second to bacon, it may be the best food invention ever. Their steaks come out drenched in butter on hot plates so that they sizzle and taste like a dream. The downside is that the entire restaurant smells like burnt butter. The smell hits you in the face when you walk in, and to me, it was nauseating. The service was not substandard by any means, but was not the high level I was expecting. The hostess took our coats, but we had to sit for a minute or two before we could be seated at one of the numerous open tables. Our server, Julie, was nice, but took nearly ten minutes to return to take our order after initially introducing herself. After that, she was moderately attentive, but definitely not at the level of an Eddie Merlots or Flemings. As I said before, the steak was perfection. Blue cheese crust was flavorful, cut of beef was tender and a perfect medium rare. I wasn't a fan of the hot plate it was served on, though. It took forever to wait for each bite to cool enough to eat it. The rest of the meal was decent but unforgettable. The salad had a couple of wilted pieces. Not a big deal for the Devour Downtown menu, but if I had been paying the full $8 price, I was have been pretty upset. The Caesar dressing was nothing to write home about and did not taste homemade. Same with the mashed potatoes. For dessert, we were served dark chocolate bark and cheesecake. I may be the last milk chocolate holdout, but dark chocolate just doesn't do it for me. And I do like a bit of salt in my chocolate, but to me, it tasted oversalted. The cheesecake had some weird sour cream type topping that hubby and I agreed was just strange. Overall, swing and a miss, but I might come back for the steak.

Let me start the 1st time I ate at Ruth's Chris was 2004 and I should have kept it that way. Now 9 years after I was disappointed. When you go to a "upscale steakhouse" and order your steak medium it's a fair assumption that you will not receive a medium rare steak. The waiter was not on his game, the Manager was making excuses and my dinner experience was not good. I guess this place is just not for me.

    (2)
  • Rob R.

Great service! Food was good, my steak was undercooked but still tasted good. I might need to start ordering rare vs medium. I thought a steakhouse at this level would have the cooking down to a science. They did something special for our a anniversary (provided two glasses of champagne and chocolate strawberries) which was a nice touch.

  • Richard J.

I will warn you about this place. I had a party of 5, I asked about a specific wine 07 Duckhorn, it was 200 a bottle. I stated way too much, they offered a Decoy for $80 a bottle. That was acceptable. We ordered 2 bottles. When we received the check it was listed at $180. I asked for the manager however it was 1115PM and he was gone. The other guest all heard $80 per bottle. Next day I disputed the only to be told we should have disputed at the time. How could we dispute when the manager I'd gone. Needless to say we couldn't do anything. I offered to split the difference. Needless to say I will never eat there I don't care how good the steaks taste.

I took my wife to Ruth's tonight and really wanted to put a review in. This establishment has top notch customer service. I called a few days ago to put in a res and I was asked if any special occasion and I let the lady know it was our 1st anniversary. When arriving, it was as if they had been expecting us all day and immediately directed us to our table. As we sat down at the rose pedal covered table, we were congratulated on our 1st anniversary. That was then followed by the waiter and two managers. The food was awesome surf and turf for both of us. Carrot cake for dessert along with a nutty Irishman. Towards the end of the meal, I asked the hostess for a phone number for a carriage ride place. She said I will call for you. Unfortunately they could not be there for another hour and 45 minutes. I told her never mind and sat back down. A few minutes later the manager came by and said you have about 10 minutes to finish up and catch your carriage ride.... I was taken back. The manager went out and flagged one down for us and got it all set up. You could not ask for better service or food. I mean, who does that kind of stuff anymore? I know Ruth's Chris Steak House does.

Have been and probably will always be a fan of the Ribeye here. Marbled and full of flavor (servers are not allowed to say "fat". They push the filet and while it is good just have never bought into the hype. Traditional steak house sides and salads. Big fan of the lyonaise Potatoes, one of the best Steak house versions I have had. Deserts are always well received too! The service has always been above average here. I cannot say that for our last visit. It was just off. We have been coming here for 5 or 6 years now when in town and have had the same server for nearly every trip. Maybe he just had a bad day or maybe just been there too long. Will know next time we visit

Brunch before a Colts game was the inspiration to dine here. The brunch was limited in variety but the quality was good. The highlight was their signature bread pudding. Was very disappointed in the Bloody Mary. When we quizzed the server about it being 'thin' he inquired and reported they used Hoosier mamma mix but did in fact 'thin' it down with soda water. Hmmmm well the result was a very thinned down drink. He did have the manager remove t from our bill as the brunch price of $24.95 did not include a drink. With 4 home games left I will likely try other places before going back.

Came to Ruth's Chris during the MotoGP race weekend. The dining area began to fill up quickly with tourists (like us) but the servers did not miss a beat. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed their attentive service and their asking if we were celebrating anything special that night. Of course, the steaks were amazing and I would strongly recommend the fresh seasonal berries dessert. Can't wait to go back for The 500!!!

Let me preface by saying that a certain family member has an ownership interest in this particular Ruth's Chris Steak House; therefore, I am biased. I'm used to excellent service, and have generally always received this at the D/T Indy Ruth's Chris. On this past Saturday, we had a group of seven, and the reservation was not under my name. However, the reservation was under a good friend who is kind of the Paris Hilton of the Downtown Indy restaurant / club scene...well, sans ovaries that is. My friend, who is kind of a Doctor of sorts (not really), gets the good tables, just as I would when dining at Ruth's Chris. When the first five in our party of seven entered, we were immediately greeted, and then seated at one of the better tables. To start, I opted for a Chopin martini straight up. Perfect! For an entree, I had the Filet, paired with a big, fat Cab, i.e. a glass of Charles Krug. The filet was prepared at a perfect medium rare. Service. Again, perfect. Our server, Geoff was a true professional. He'd match up with any fine dining employee at any fine dining establishment. It has been probably 3-4 years since I've dined at this particular Ruth's Chris. It was nice to see that they've remodeled, as the restaurant / bar was kind of outdated from what I recall. Nevertheless, perfect environment, paired with perfect food & service will guarantee a return when I'm in Indy again next month!

Yes, another steak house in Indy, and a chain at that. But you gotta admit, they do a great steak. We ate here for a special occasion dinner and ordered the classics--rib eye, filet, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. if you have a big appetite, order the cowboy ribeye--bone in and full of flavor. Of course the steak was done to perfection and cost a pretty penny. Served up sizzling on a hot plate, don't wear your best silk shirt without wearing a bib (now I need to go to the drycleaners.) But we also ordered the seared ahi tuna appetizer, which is served chilled with a spicy mustard sauce. It was tough to choose between that and the lobster app. And since it was a special occasion, we ordered dessert even though I was stuffed from dinner. What a great idea. The Bread pudding in whiskey sauce was huge and hugely awesome. Warm and soft and pillowy and saucey, I couldn't stop myself from finishing it off. I'd come back just for dessert again! Service was very quick and formal. So come for the steak, but save room for dessert!

My favorite steak house! The steaks are sooooooo delicious here. I've never had a bad meal. The sides are incredible too (and large). Make sure you bring your wallet though. It's not exactly the cheapest place around. But, it's well worth the price. I suggest this for your next special occasion.

Ruth's Chris has some of the best service I've seen in an upscale chain restaurant. This is the second location that I've been to, and I've been nothing but impressed with the quality of their service. Had dinner here with my family to celebrate my sister's high school graduation. Forgot that it was Memorial Day weekend and thus race day, but since we ate early, the place was still pretty dead. Didn't start to see the race fans until we were out the door around 7 pm. They make a mean piece of filet. Served on a searing hot plate with butter and parsley, it doesn't get much better than that. Their au gratin potatoes are fantastic. The little French baguettes are served with glorious butter. Dessert is great. Their chocolate lava cake is hands down the best I've had. They nailed the perfect mix of cake and soft chocolately goodness. Had a bite of their cheesecake as well. It's definitely not a standard NY style cheesecake, but still very good. They brought out my sister a plate of chocolate covered strawberries as a congrats gift, a nice touch. Their cosmos are strong. Beware! Yes, it's expensive, but it's also good. It's a nice place to take a larger group who isn't horribly inventive when it comes to their food choices. Everything is pretty solid and always good.

Among the best in town. Servers are always friendly, the steaks are always well-cooked and drenched in butter, and the ambience is suitably dark.

A friend and I from out of town dined there last night. They were very accommodating; we had to change our reservations several times as we got side tracked and they had no problem with that. Our waiter Mike Burns was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. The atmosphere was upscale while at the same time relaxed. Parking downtown can be tricky; however, the $10 valet parking is highly recommended. They also allowed us to leave our car there after we left to walk around downtown a bit. We had a bottle of the Shiraz which goes great with a wonderful steak. I enjoyed a T-Bone and my friend had the strip. We also had a shrimp cocktail that was delightful. The shrimp were absolutely huge.

A fun place to go during the combine. The bar is hopping! Can rub shoulders with all sorts of NFL players, coaches, agents. A better atmosphere than St. Elmo's. Great service too! Steaks are served on piping hot plates and are always melt in your mouth good. Side dishes are delicious also. You can't go wrong with either the surf or the turf.
