HAVE AGAIN: the vanilla frozen custard was creamy, smooth and just wonderful. This time I stuck to the vanilla and did not try other flavors.

I love all that they have different flavors everyday. The staff is always super friendly and inviting! I also like that they always seem to have at least two non-dairy options. The staff is super helpful in answering questions and helping decide if I should try something different.

Let's get something straight. Custard is better than ice cream. Got it? So if you're looking for some great custard, this is the place. I've had all sorts of yummy treats here, and each one is better than the last. My fave? Chocolate custard with some Heath mixed in! The staff here is made up of mostly high school kids, so service is on par with that crowd. However, I've never had a bad experience here. Plus, the price is right! You'll find me here when the weather gets warmer and the skirts get shorter! This is a walk up bar, no indoor seating. It's great in the summer, not so bueno on a windy day.

Service has always been fast and friendly. This is a walk-up only location (no indoors, no drive-thru). I usually get their version of the blizzard with cookie dough, but this past visit I realized there are "kid's sundaes". It's one scoop of custard (180 calories) with a topping. So I'll be doing that from here on out. I paid $2.27 for my treat, and it was just the right size. I was also able to burn the entire thing off during zumba later that night. During April-May they're having "foodie flavors" like green tea (April 26-28), pomegranate, spicy chocolate, and others. This location sits back from Georgetown Rd a bit (it's behind the McDonald's and Penn Station) so you won't have exhaust flavoring your custard.

Ritter's has decent frozen custard. Service is fast and friendly, and prices are reasonable. My main complaint is that there's no indoor seating. That would be fine if we lived on the equator and wanted to eat ice cream outside all the time, but here, there are probably only 4 or 5 months where I would be OK with that. Eating ice cream in the car can get messy, and if you have to eat in your car anyway, they should have a drive through, rather than making you stand outside in the cold while you order and wait for your frozen custard. It would also be nice if they had more flavor options.

Ritter's is fantastic! It's is rich and creamy and is the best frozen custard in Indianapolis. It is an Indianapolis based chain, so I am a little biased, but Culver's, although cheaper, is slightly not as creamy. Ritter's frozen custard is thick and does not contain a lot of air like ice cream. It melts rather quickly on hot humid days, so I do not recommend cones. I personally like the outdoor seating locations more, but generally only come here on hot days and evenings to enjoy the breeze. The neighborhood is residential, but the intersection of 56th and Georgetown has a lot of retail and quick serve (fast) food. The chocolate is my favorite. It is really creamy and has a good texture to it. It actually tastes better when you use the chocolate ice cream in their brownie sundae than the vanilla. Of course, I am a chocoholic, so take that advice with what you will. They have about six to seven flavors on any given day, and of course, their mix ins make for endless possibilities on their glaciers (their version of a blizzard.) Their version of DQ's Peanut Buster Parfait is also superior to the original, but difficult to finish! They also have cakes as well, but I've been too scared to try one because: 1) I'm afraid it will melt before I get it home, and 2) I don't think that everyone would be able to finish it!!! A great place to lazily enjoy a frozen treat in the sun.
