It is a little known secret that Murphy's Steakhouse, now primarily known as Murphy's @ Flynn's following their 2014 merger with Pat Flynn's Restaurant, was actually started in 1958 as a Frisch's Big Boy restaurant. Seriously! By the 1960's, it had become Calloway's Steakhouse and then Murphy's Steakhouse following its purchase by Jim Murphy in 1977. While the name was maintained, the restaurant was purchased again in 1990 and had largely remained the same until being moved from its long existing Keystone Avenue location in 2014 into current digs at 52nd & Allisonville Road that had already been the home of Pat Flynn's. If you can imagine a weaving together of an Irish pub with a traditional steakhouse with a retro vibe, then you can get a sense of Murphy's @ Flynn's. It's a comfortable location with the possible exception of its obnoxious neighbors at the Hoosier Motor Club who are known to tow cars if you dare park in their spots during business hours. Open Monday - Saturday with daily lunch and dinner specials, Murphy's serves up steaks, burgers, pizza and wings along with its full bar. They also have appetizers and their prices cover a fairly wide range that should please anyone except those expecting value meal prices. I arrived during late lunch hours on a Friday afternoon. There were a few diners, but mostly it seemed like servers were cleaning up from lunch and getting prepped for dinner. This made service a little more casual than is likely experienced during actual meal hours. My service was fine - just a little casual and probably a little slower than usual. I'd never actually been to the Murphy's location on Keystone, though neither location would be that far from my home. It gave off a pretty wonderful 50's kind of vibe that reminded me a lot of Castleton Grill. I'd simply never made it there. However, after several friends visited this location I decided I would eventually get here. Unfortunately, they're closed on Sundays and that is often my prime time for experiencing new restaurants. Today's unexpectedly short work day offered the chance to try it out. I eat very limited red meat, but had been craving a burger for a few days and decided that a non-processed burger was the way to go. Murphy's makes their own hamburger from their steak scraps and you can easily tell it's a better quality burger. I ordered it medium well and it was delivered as ordered. The french fries, which come with the burger for $7.99, were lightly browned and slightly crisped and very good. I ordered my usual unsweetened iced tea and received one refill plus one to go. Murphy's has a handful of televisions that play silently - in this case, all were on sports and it looked like they were all on the same channel. As has been observed, Murphy's is MUCH larger on the inside than it looks like from the outside. I actually sat at a two-top voluntarily and had plenty of room to feel comfortable. They do have two accessible parking spots, though neither one is even close to ADA compliant. Both were taken and I had to park at the end of the building to ensure I had room for my wheelchair. Fortunately, there's a vacancy in the building right now and parking is fairly open except when they have special events. They get really packed during St. Patrick's Day! Murphy's at Flynn's is practically the definition of a 4-star experience with good service, very good food, and very good prices. I would easily go back with a small group of friends knowing that we could enjoy a good meal and have a nice atmosphere for chatting.

Recently merged Murphy's Steakhouse and Pat Flynn's Public House has become Murphy's @ Flynn's and is a fabulous merger. The menus merged the furnishings merged the employees merged and together have become quite the place! Very relaxing atmosphere, low key, not loud, great food and drink... It features a full bar and the best Filet Mignon anyone could crave. The Tenderloin and onion rings are the best in the State,. handmade by Pat Flynn. Large Groups welcome and a great date night destination.!

When we lived downtown we went the Murphy's regularly. It was quaint, booths were private, lights were low, staff was incredibly friendly, food was top notch. I'm not sure what happened in the last five years, but it makes me a bit sad. We went for our grandmother's birthday as she was hadn't been in years. 1. Our server was extremely rude. I don't know if she was having an off night or if she was just upset that they only had a few servers for the entire restaurant, but at no point in time was she pleasant. Except when she said thanks for coming. 2. I thought a law was put into place a couple of years ago doing away with the automatic gratuity, but be aware that if you have a larger party they tack on 20% immediately. 3. The worst crab cakes I've ever had. Mostly filler. Just don't waste your money. Oceanaire, Ted's Montana Grill, Ocean Prime...these they are not. 4. I asked for a chocolate martini and it was just vodka and Godiva - no Baileys. I know that wasn't the server's fault. I asked someone else for Baileys and when I told her what it was supposed to be she looked at it like, "that's not a chocolate martini." Ha! 5. Make sure you know what your "number" is when you sit down. What is your number? Whatever the previous waitress wrote you down as on the piece of paper. She got so irritated that we didn't know what they were. Are you kidding me? I'm not the server! 6. You have to ask for bread and you get one per person. We felt sort of scoffed at for asking. We had diabetics in our party and it took more than an hour to get our meal, s the we needed something. 7. The redeeming quality was a decent steak and a warm bacon salad. Not enough for us to make the drive all the way from Avon again, though. Every experience will be different, but this was ours.

Good family joint where noise is accepted. Daily specials for lunch and dinner. Typical pub grub, but they also do steaks. Grab a Guiness, the Monster salad (aka hot bacon salad), and a steak. The tenderloin is worthy as well. Wasn't impressed with the twice baked potato.

I'd been to Murphy's when it was on Keystone, years ago, and I'd been to Pat Flynn's, also years ago, but this was my first visit since they merged. Once again, this place is MUCH larger than it looks from the outside. I like the color scheme quite a lot, it's warm and inviting, and the staff is cordial and friendly. For dinner, I had the tenderloin sandwich, and, let me tell you, this is a dandy. It's obviously hand breaded, and the pork was tender, moist and tasty. I felt like the breading could have used a little more seasoning, still, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The french fries were good but not exceptional. Still, it was a tasty, satisfying meal that I recommend. We were part of a larger, private group, and much of the group felt the service was a tad slow, however, I do realize it's tough to plan for large groups. All in all, a well above average experience. Murphy's will go int our regular rotation for a night out.

Murphy's Steakhouse is a local staple. It has been around forever and isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon. It's a great place to go for steak without breaking the bank. I've only visited their original location once. This is my first time visiting the new location. Arrived around 1 to meet some friends for lunch. The places wasn't every crowded, so it didn't take long to be seated. Unfortunately things did pick up and they appeared to be short staffed. Our waitress was trying her best to keep up with everything. I wasn't in the mood for a filet and was curios about the pretzel sandwiches they offer. I ordered the turkey Gouda pretzel panini w/fries. It was pretty standard and good, but nothing exceptional. The food is consistent. Just nothing spectacular although rumor has it that their cobblers are exceptional. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but I definitely would return to this local staple.

Our first time at Murphy's was last week on a Wednesday evening. We will be back! The music of Dave Lowe was such a pleasure to enjoy while we dined. He is quite personable and we like that. We ordered the Reuben, Patty Melt & the Burger with Blue Cheese. All were quite tasty and cooked to our liking. The fries are very yummy!! Our only complaint and the reason I will not give Murphy's a five star rating for this first visit is because we did not have one specific server take care of us through the night. We had three different servers visit us and it was a bit confusing at times. The gentleman who waited on us was the most pleasant and friendly of the bunch. We would have enjoyed having him wait on us the entire night. We will definitely return. Actually, I can't wait to go back!

New location but all the charm of this Parks & Rec favorite. No frills, you come here for meat and potatoes. Paper place mats and napkins set low expectations but the food makes up for it. Better than any of the chain steakhouses in this price point. You can't help that you recognize everyone eating here. Lunch specials are always a great value and the Filet lunch is the best for the price.

This was much better as Pat Flynns. Since they merged with Murphy's Steakhouse, my husband and I both ordered steak. My 8oz ribeye looked grey when it came and was cooked medium well when I asked for medium rare. My husbands 12oz ribeye was cooked medium rare as he asked but was about 40% fat and cartilage. Both steaks were very bland in flavor. Also for dessert my husband ordered a slice of peanut butter pie for us to share. It came covered in pecans which I am allergic to. I've never seen a peanut butter pie covered in pecans and the menu did not say anything about the nuts. Very glad we were there as part of a volunteer appreciation dinner and didn't have to pay for this lousy meal. I expected so much better for the price and for the fact that Murphys was such a long standing steakhouse business here in Indy.

The new location is so much nicer, a great atmosphere. I am stuck on ordering the cheeseburger and fries, they're so delicious! They make their own hamburger from the steak scraps so I guess it's a real steak burger. Try the French Fries too, they're perfect in my opinion. I ask for a side of BBQ sauce to dip them in. Yum!

Murphy's at Pat Flynn's is a great venture between two strong places that made each other stronger. We were attending a private event one week, and their Saint Patrick's celebration the next. So yes...two weeks in a row. They have a nice event room in the back, where we were for the private event. I had the classic wedge salad, and it was really good. My only disappointment is that the bacon bits weren't real. It's the little things that makes something special, and this salad could have been made ten times better with that little change. I also had a bowl of Northern bean soup, which came out only slightly warm. Our server was very good about taking it back and warming it up quickly - then it was perfect. And it was served with cornbread - which was incredibly good! Not too sweet, and incredibly moist. A week later on Saint Patrick's Day, it was an incredible time! A truly memorable experience! I had the reuben that night, and it was very good! I have a feeling we'll be going to Murphy's a lot more in the future!

This is a great place! The staff is warm and friendly and the place has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The menu has a lot of good options so we will be going back soon to try some of the recommended items. Looking forward to our next visit!

Dinner last night was really bad. The decor has improved but not the food. The fried potatoes were black and tasted like charcoal. Everything was served cold. Our kids liked their sandwiches but the steak was below average as was the fish. The server was really sweet but slow, forgot drinks and brought me the wring potato.
