I work in the Gold Building, so I'm a regular at the City Market next door. Mauricio's has become my go-to place when I want pizza for lunch. I usually get the slice and have never gone wrong. I am lucky because they try new things as well as have the standards. It is unfortunate, but after 20+ years of City Market cuisine, a few of the stand holders fail to innovate with their offerings. Also anchovies are always available!

It looks like a greasy pizza joint. It is. But priced that way, as well: $3.90 for a massive stuffed slice, $5.50ish for a hot thousand-calorie calzone with choice of marinara or cheese sauce. And there is one very interesting quality: the crust is rather pastry-like, flaky and buttery. THIS is not normal. You will not be awed by the cheese/sauce/toppings. You will not sidestep a fat/carb/sodium assault. But you will be well compensated for your dollar in the calorie department, you will dig the hot fresh ampleness of the offerings as well as the distinguishing pastry dough, and you will feel as though value has been achieved. Humble aim, humble price, successful delivery. In a blind taste test it loses to any of the more ambitious pizza joints around town (Bazbeaux & Pizzology et. al.), but the domain of cheap pizza is satisfaction+satiety, and in this Mauricio's has delivered every time I have come asking. Score another for the City Market!

I work at the City-County Building, so I'm a regular at the City Market across the street. Mauricio's is my favorite food place at the Market and has become my go-to place for lunch. I usually get the slice plus salad or salad plus garlic bread and have never gone wrong with either combination. As good as the pizza is (and it IS good), the salads just as tasty. I've not sampled the calzones or the sandwiches yet, but based on my experience with the pizza/salad combos, I would wager that you would not go wrong with either of those options. The only annoyance is that I always have to repeat my order three times -- first to the guy who grabs my slice selection and puts it into the oven, then to the cashier, and then to the people at the other end who add the salad and drink so that you can be on your way. No biggie, though. Great pizza and salads... give Mauricio's a try if you're ever in the area around City Market -- you won't regret it!

Tried their Chicken Spinach Garlic pizza...not a huge fan. Maybe should've tried something a bit more traditional. Even after reheating the slice in their oven, it came out cold. Pretty bland, no frills. Sbarro back home has them beat, even Pizza Hut or Papa John's. If we make it back to the market, I'll give them another shot, but their "Specialty" pizza was anything but that.

Not a bad spot for a quick slice of pizza on a lunch break. Only been here a few times for an occasional bite throughout the years, but it's tasty enough to hit the spot. Nothing too crazy. It has your typically slices, calzones, and breadsticks...I recommend if you want something quick and simple but if you're looking for a great gourmet pizza experience, look elsewhere.

My benchmark for a pizza rating is a plain 'ol slice of cheese pie. This place fails miserably. Only slightly better than that cafeteria pizza you had in grade school - and that's due to the crust (which is far from even a mediocre pizza crust in NY). Their crust does fold, I'll give them that, but it lacks the nice bread flavor of a good pizza and doesn't have that slight crispness. Is you're looking for a trip down memory lane, the sauce and cheese at this place will take you there. Maybe they add a little cheddar cheese to their blend? Whatever it is, it falls short and left me disappointed.

I don't know if it was my hunger talking.. but this was some of the tastiest pizza I've ever had. Slightly overpriced ($8 for a slice of gourmet pizza and 2 breadstix and a drink.. I guess not THAT bad..) I really hope when people read my reviews, they really see that I have champagne taste and a beer wallet!! (A phrase, courtesy of one of my best friends, Ellen J.!) I had the BBQ Chicken pizza and it was mouthwatering. Seriously, they toast every individual slice, it's as big as your face, and it had tasty bits of chicken, sweet barbecue sauce, and caramelized onions on it. Heaven. I overuse the word heaven, but totally worth it in this situation. They also have a choice among regular, cheese or pepperoni stuffed breadstix! Big gripes: it's in crowded City Market, so it's always busy (not exactly Mauricio's but City Market itself), and I don't believe they deliver... Correct me if I'm wrong!!
