The food is great, and the staff is very courteous. When me and my wife went, we didn't know how to properly eat the crab we had ordered. Instead of just leaving us out to dry, our waitress actually gave us a little demo! The only downside is that the food is a little pricey.

I had a great time here. First of all I needed a break from monotony and I was craving seafood. This place is big and colorful, particularly fun for groups and birthdays. It is decorated vividly to make you feel you are by the sea which is an awesome feeling in landlocked Indiana. Well to make myself clear, there is no water nearby, just the way it feels. The service is very friendly although they keep forgetting things but that's all cool as long as they get the order right. We had the east coast platter and another combo which had crab, lobster and shrimps. I must say it was a big meal for two but it was very fresh and well made. I do advise watching videos on how to eat lobsters because you really can make a big mess :-) Overall great experience, would love to come back!

Joe's is the place for great seafood! Service was fast and friendly! Clam chowder was great and of course the crab is always amazing! Eat at Joe's!! Love this place!

I find this to be a great place for seafood, not as great as Red Lobster but way more affordable! My family and I had dinner here lastnight, we've been here plenty of times and they never disappoint! Anything I've ordered here I've always been satisfied with. The service are always friendly and fast! If you're looking for a great place for seafood and that's not going to cost an arm and leg, give 'em a try!

Was in for a brief lunch while my car was worked on at Walmart. Had the appetizer sampler. Should have just had calamari. I didn't care for the crab dip-I haven't been to Joe's in years, but I feel like it is different. I used to love it. The lobster balls or whatever they were were okay. Again-should have just had calamari. It was amazing. It was very slow in there for lunch time, but I had friendly and fast service.

Just left this place, I sat for 10 minutes on the patio & no one greeted us .... Never will go back. Ridiculous

My husband and I stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Our waitress, Janeth, was friendly and efficient. The food was hot and excellent. We will definitely return!

Usually pretty good, but very disappointed tonight. Cold fries, poor service, etcetera. Definitely off the list.

This is your typical Joe's, good food, good atmosphere and hit or miss service. We have been here more than 10 times and have never had our food messed up. The service and wait times vary by the time of year and time of day. We did have an extremely long wait one time and the manager offered a few resolutions which were acceptable to us. It is a chain so don't expect a hold your hand mom and pop experience.

We eat here often! Friendly service and great seafood! The crab dip! Finger licking good!

So let me start by saying that Joe's isn't for everybody. It is pricey. Expect to spend $70-$80 minimum. It is a unique atmosphere. Some would say tacky. I say it's a fun atmosphere. The food is good if you like seafood. It's a completely different dining experience than your typical seafood restaurant. The steam pots and the drinks are the main attractions here. Be sure to try a Category 5 Hurricane or a Mardi Gras punch. The Joe's party cups are fun too. Come with an open mind and I think you'll walk away pleased.

For the most part I will give a restaurant a second chance so this review is describing my 2nd visit. Our 1st visit was around opening night and I promised I would not go back but I did and what a regrettable experience. This has to be the worst and the most overpriced seafood in all of Indianapolis. The place was empty but the service was slow and unpleasant. I started with an order of the king crab legs which looked diseased and had a funny smell which I could not finish. My wife had the fish platter which was dripping with grease and she could not finish. We left $75 dollars lighter and still hungry so we stopped at White castles...I give Whities 5 stars for saving the day.

I don't get these reviews. "Tacky?" I think some food snobs need to keep to their fancy dining places... Crab shack is basically an "Authentic" gulf style or cajun seafood place... and that means tacky and dive-like. The Crab shack chain in general is my favorite place to eat. I'm from the gulf coast and I miss real seafood places up in Indiana. They are consistent with the food and it is always good if you like true to it's roots southern seafood. I recommend then Sunset Fire Grill steampot. Yeah, the corn isn't usually very good, but who cares? The crab, shrimp, and sausage is awesome! Back off snobs if you can't handle authentic.

$50 for a bucket of crab, peel & eat shrimp appetizer and 2 waters. My suggestion go to Hooter's next door, the crab, menu pricing, and the service are much!!

I don't know if we hit them on an off day but... first, our service was mediocre at best. Waitress showed up after about 10 minutes for drink orders. When she brings us the drinks, she says she is going to let us "settle in" and takes off, despite the fact we were ready to order. Five to ten minutes later she comes back for our order. When our food FINALLY came out, almost all of it was lukewarm or cold. I ordered fish and clams, which came with fries- the fish was bland, the clams were way too chewy, and there were enough fries on my plate to feed the entire restaurant. My daughter had salmon that was okay but the rice that came with it was terrible and tasted old. The other family members who were with us had similar issues with their food too. However, they are the type who won't say anything when the food sucks and they get embarassed if I do so I am forced to share my opinion about this terrible experience on yelp. Save your money and go to Long John Silvers... you could easily have the same quality food for way cheaper there. Worst Joe's Crabshack I have ever been to.

I took my Neice here for lunch on March 21, 2013... I had the Lobster Daddy (fire grilled) feast and my neice had the Crab Daddy... The food was great and we were served quickly and our server was amazing! The restaurant was clean compared to other Joe's I have been to. When I came to leave my review I was a bit surprised by the negative reviews! I agree with Daniel A's review. If your looking for a bucket of get all messy this is a great place to have some fun! I really wish I remembered our servers name she was really awesome! If I am ever in Indiana again I will go back!

From a behind the scenes look, its a horrible, disgusting restaurant. Let me just say they should be shut down for health violations, don't eat the food....... And the managers should all be fired for sexual harassment towards the workers.

My husband took me out to dinner at the Joe's crabshack on us31 on October 5th. We went in and the hostess started to take us to a booth, and i told her asap that i need a table as I can't sit in a booth. She paused, called someone & asked if they were still on breack (yes the waitress was), then said nothing and led us to a table. Upon sitting down, she gave us 2 menus. Mine had food all over it, so I put it aside and used my husbands. We then sat for over 10 minutes NOT getting acknowledged, NOT being spoken too, and we knew we had been seated at a table where the person was on break. After almost 15 minutes we decided to just walk out. I went up to the manager and told him we were leaving and why. He asked us to stay, said it was his fault, and said he would pay for our meal. No thanks. Not staying under those conditions. We were disgusted with the staff there. At one point while we were sitting there, we saw 5 waitresses all gathered around the register with the manager just talking. I guess they figured we would sit there waiting on that waitress to come back off break. We left, and went to the other Joe's on Dean Road. Much better staff there, and a whole diff atmosphere. I do NOT recommend this place at all. They all need training, including the manager.

This was a very disappointing visit. We've eaten here before and while it doesn't match up to the seacoast restaurants the Crab Shack tries to imitate in its decor and menu, the food hasn't been too bad. However, I ordered the Classic Steampot and it was baaad! The portion of crab was skimpy and tasted like it was reheated from the last night's leftovers. The corn on the cob can only be described as "wilted" and the butter was spilled and unusable and I there was some other matter that looked a lot like shrimp but had no flavor. What's happened to this place?

Worst "seafood" I've ever had. My sister and I were looking forward to trying one of their crab pots that look so good on TV. We were so disappointed. Our waitress was friendly but, once we had our food, she never came back until we were finished. She did threaten to tie our bib's on and wanted to know why we didn't get up and dance.....uh, because I'm not a dork looking for attention when I go out to eat.... We both had the lobster, crab and shrimp pot. (extra shrimp instead of sausage). All of the seafood was WAY over cooked or really old, I can't figure out which, but all of it was tough and rubbery. The corn was old....I mean REALLY old and tasted like corn that was meant for farm animals. The Lobster was tiny and the meat inside the shell had been cooked so long that it looked like it didn't even come out of that shell, it was so small. The seasoning was bland and not tasty at all. Our total was over $72.00 and I will NEVER go back here again. I can't believe they've remained open so long....no wonder the in Indy closed! BAD BAD BAD FOOD!

A-OK. Great if you love crab and tacky settings (the servers are apparently forced to dance to certain songs, and seeing the look shame on some of their faces is worth the visit). Our server was young, not the most polite, but our food came out quickly and was good for the most part. One of my group ordered mussels, which came out cold and nasty, but beyond that, it was an enjoyable meal. This isn't the kind of place I'll regularly visit, but if someone I'm with really wants to go to Red Lobster, I'll probably encourage them to go here instead.

I took my sister out for her birthday last night. We ordered a sampler appetizer with popcorn shrimp, crab dip, and mozzarella sticks. It was okay. Then we shared an order of garlic herb snow crab legs. These tasted good, but were very buttery. Overall, it was very unhealthy and a little pricey. With an appetizer around $10, shared entrée around $20 and two fountain drinks, we payed just under $40, not including tip. I probably wouldn't go back. If you have never been to Joe's, you should be prepared for a "party-like" atmosphere. Even though there were only 4 tables of guests in the whole restaurant, the staff still tried to put on a show by dancing and acting crazy. When you order crab legs, they try to put a bib on you. One girl told them it was her birthday and got wrapped up in paper towels while they sang to her. My sister opted not to tell them it was her birthday. So if you're looking for a nice quiet meal, look elsewhere.

I am not a fan, Portions are always smaller than shown on the menu. I used to frequent, but the quality went way down.

First visit to Joe's Crab Shack in Indiana; we've dined at locations in San Antonio and Oklahoma City. Visited on a Saturday around 3pm. Greeted promptly by hostess, who wasn't very friendly, but that's okay. Restaurant smelled like the ocean, which is a good sign for a place that serves seafood. Greeted promptly by server and drinks brought quickly. She even made me a virgin cherry limeade in a take-home mason jar glass (nice, but not worth the $1.99 - I'll get over it). We started with 12 boiled, Old Bay seasoned shrimp appetizer. Chilled and tasty if not a little overcooked. Felt rushed as meals came out before we were even through the appetizer. Hubby ordered classic steampot with Sunset Grilled seasoning and I had the steampot with the lobster and crab. Arrived promptly and hot. Hubby not wild about the seasoning. My lobster was way overcooked; the body meat was rubbery and only the claw meat had the right texture. Potatoes good. Corn, again, overcooked. Snow crab was good. Hubby ordered additional cluster of snow crab ($7.49), which server forgot and I had to remind her. Dungeness crab okay. Snow crab tasted the best. Server was good, promptly refilled our drinks and brought me lemon when I asked for it (anything to make the lobster less rubbery!) With tip, bill was $99 for both of us (no alcohol or dessert). This was our third visit to a Joe's and it will be the last. It costs me way less to buy crab in the seafood dept. of our local Kroger and make it at home. Definitely not worth the money. I haven't had lobster in about 5 years and I was disappointed for sure.
