GT South’s Rib House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

So my family came here, since my husband purchased a groupon. It's a small place, but clean and cozy. Our waitress Tasha was very welcoming as she greeted us coming in the front door. She made some great recommendations which I really appreciate. Since this was our first time, she knew what would be good and maybe what we wouldn't like. She knows the menu very well. Based on service I'd give this place a 4. When it comes to the food, I give this place a 3. Everything came out quickly, which is not good in most cases, but not here. We had the wings for appetizers. Very delicious; even without the sauce. The ribs (my choice of entree) were ok. I could tell they know what they're doing, but they were a little dry. Maybe they just overcooked that batch. I like the biscuits very much; they reminded me of ones you get in the South. With a name like GT's South Rib House, you don't come for the greens and Mac and cheese, you come for meat. And I think the owners know that. With that being said, the sides were very bland. I like a potato salad with more mayo than mustard (just my personal presence) so the potato salad wasn't great to me. I had to add salt. The green beans tasted like they came out of a can. I will say I didn't have room to try dessert, so we definitely got our fill. And the price wasn't too bad. We purchased a $50 groupon for $27 and paid a little more than that; so it came to be about $38 (not including gratuity). The children's drinks weren't included which was a little bummer. I guess we've gotten spoiled when it comes to that. More and most restaurants children's menu include the drink but again for $7.25/child it's not terrible, especially for ribs. All in all, it was nice. Really enjoyed Tasha. She was very welcoming and patient w/us and took very good care of us. Not sure if will be back seeing as we live on the south side of Indy. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here for barbecue. I would like to give it a second try, because I feel like the ribs wouldn't be so dry. If that's the case, I might boost my rating to a 4.....we'll see

First off, let's talk about what G T Souths is not. G T Souths is not a place you dress up to go to. It is also not a place that you have to spend a lot of money to get a good meal. It probably isn't the best choice for a vegetarian or someone who only eats organic produce. I like G T Souths for all of the above reasons. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the Mac and cheese. Both were simple but very good. I liked the BBQ sauce- there's a spicy and a classic option. I had the classic. It's very "home cooking." The booths are simple. The menu is simple. The prices are very reasonable. I would take my grandparents there. Go there if you want a good BBQ sandwich. They also have take out.

GT South's serves up solid barbecue. We have tried almost all of the items here and would definitely recommend the baby back ribs, the rib tips, and the pulled chicken. All of the sides are delicious, especially the mac and cheese. The pulled pork is a bit lacking in both flavor and moisture and I would recommend trying a different meat. The atmosphere is definitely "no frills" but that is a-okay with us. Cheap beer & drinks and friendly staff, as well as quick service keep us coming back.

I've liked GT South's for some time. Sure it may not be the best. . .but it is a great blend of good southern bbq food, sweet tea, and family friendly environment. I remain overjoyed by the smoking ban in Indy, that changed the smelly GT to a decent place. I don't think I would of rated it that high before. GT souths contains a decent selection of smoked dishes (hot dogs even, brisket, turkey, and pork). They have some good to okay sides such as red potatoes, mac and cheese, etc. I normally do a sweet tea at GT, with mac and cheese, new potatoes, and a beef brisket. yet i've tried the pork, turkey, and ribs. .and found it all quite good. Where I think GT wins is that its just a reasonable price, good food, kind of place. . where you can meet with some parents and some toddlers and without drama. Plus it is good smokey BBQ -- we usually leave with a couple jars of their sauce, which is corn syrup free and goodness in a bottle

Newly frequent customer here. What I love: Pulled pork Potato salad (which is more mayo than mustard... yumm) Mac & cheese (super cheesy) Chocolate cake Baked beans Biscuits Not the best: Green beans... but honestly, who's here for green beans? Not me... just saying. Mashed potatoes are just ok. Nothing special.

GTs is definitely one of my go to places for great smoked BBQ. I like both the hot & mild mixed. Very friendly, easy going and good service. I had the BBQ beans, very good. I chuckled over the green beans as I cook a pot at home with a chopped onion & several pieces of smoked bacon for about 90 min - until the water is gone and then add salt and pepper to taste. These green beans had only been boiled in water and had absolutely no seasoning! I base my reviews on this - would I serve this to my friends or family at home? GTs does a great job on all their meats. But I wouldn't serve the corn mushy muffin or the green beans to my guests. This restaurant could soar above the competition if they stepped up their sides.

I have heard more than once that this is THE place for barbecue in Indy. They offered a groupon ($15 for $25) so I grabbed one. We went there on a weeknight and walked right in and were seated. The decor is more like an older diner than a bbq spot but it works for its location. I ordered a variety plate of pulled pork and spare ribs with Mac & cheese and baked beans. The order came out quickly and was warm. The sweet bbq sauce was very good. Smoky and sweet. The pulled pork was extremely tender. I tried some without the sauce and it had a nice smoke flavor. The smoke wasn't as intense as a piece of meat that was smoked for 6-10 hours but it was certainly there. The ribs were falling off the bone. My only complaint was that they don't trim the membrane in the underside of the rib. I and most restaurants remove it prior to cooking to allow the smoke to penetrate the back and to make it easier to eat. Overall it was a great meal and I'll be back for sure.

Great casual BBQ joint. Most importantly, the BBQ is always amazing. All the sides are top notch as well. Family dining with a small fully stocked bar attached. It's one of my favorite places to get BBQ. The brisket is the bomb-diggity!

This is THE PLACE to go if you like barbecue and/or southern cooking and/or comfort foods. Brisket, pulled pork, beef and/or turkey manhattans, ribs, collard greens, cornbread, mac and cheese, etc. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, and the decor and furniture is pretty no-nonsense, but the food and service is top notch, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are large.

GT South's is one of my BBQ favorites. I always love walking in the restaurant to the smell of smoked meats. The smoked sliced briskit is absolutely delicious. Fall apart tender, moist, and just the right amount of smokiness. I love it with or without sauce. The chicken is also good but tends to be a little dry necessitating liberal use of sauce. Not really complaining. I frequent the carryout (door to the right) and buy quanitity enough to entertain at home. (and pig out later....)

  • Christopher C.

I like GT South's I really do, it's just not that great. Obviously you go here if you like BBQ, not for the decor or the service. Decor is basic without any real thought to it. Service is friendly enough and usually decent, not great. The BBQ is tasty, the sides are small and forgetful. I wish this place would get some energy in it as it feels like they have gotten in a "same old, same old" frame of mind and that's not good for any business.

Stopped in based on others yelps and a groupon that I had acquired. I pride myself on having a dedicated passion and palette for barbecue. I had high expectations for GT's and maybe I just expected too much. I ordered brisket, a sample of babybacks, and greens. The brisket lacked a good crust which gave it a baked flavor. The ribs weren't fresh and the wet sauce was beyond sweet. The greens were decent but overdone just shy of mush (which is probably more of a personal preference honestly). Overall not awful but not something I would eat again. The waitress was attentive enough and offered to go drinks so no complaints there.

I tried the ribs, which of course they have as their signature dish, as it's part of their name, but they were nothing to write home about. They were really fatty, and the sauce was just something you'd get at the local supermarket. There's lots better ribs out there!

Smokey smells 80's music... good service they have 4 sauces - all very good. (I like the 911 the best) Pulled pork was very good Beef brisket - decent I tried ribs...a little tough (but was early in the day...perhaps these get better after cooking a little longer.they let you choose wet or dry ribs (nice!) sides are OK. nothing great.... mac and cheese - above avg. Mashed potatoes and gravy - decent potatos - ok baked beans - not good - avoid these cornbread - dense and sweet - I did not care for these - wife loved them

Really, really good barbecue. Their smoky meat with their home made sauce is a treat. Take home a couple bottles of the hot sauce, it is so good! They have a nice selection of side dishes that go well with barbecue. Food served fast, fresh, by friendly staff. A place to go again and again!

Used to go here years ago for great bbq and sides. Times have definitely changed. Went there last night with husband, our daughter and her fiance. We were considering using their catering service for their barn wedding next fall. Not so much now. Ordered 4 different sandwiches and 5 different sides. Meat was all ok, not spectacular and the plain, white bread buns were very inexpensive and falling into pieces in our hands. Hot bbq sauce was very mild. Sides: mac and cheese: bland and not very cheesy. Macaroni noodles were way overcooked and mushy. No need to chew. green beans: no flavor what so ever, not even salt. canned green beans are better than these were. Needed bacon or pork fat for seasoning and some herbs. omg. the worst. slaw: decent, nice flavor baked beans: tasted like they were straight out of can of generic baked beans. bland, bland. corn bread: dry, dry, dry. omg. I had to take a sip of water to not choke. It was dry, tasteless, and hard as a rock. Jiffy corn mix is gourmet compared to this. I love cornbread, even mediocre corn bread. I left mine on my plate. I seriously cannot understand all of the glorious reviews on this bbq place. The four of us rated it 2,3,3,and 4 out of 10. We had realistic expectations going in but were sorely disappointed. I love to cook and would love to make some suggestions to the cook to adjust their seasonings and not keep the food on the warmers so long to avoid overcooking. It is not hard. I used to help cater years ago. I hope the manager sees this post and talks with their cooks. I used to love this place.

Not normally a BBQ fan, I did enjoy the pulled pork sandwich with the hot BBQ sauce. The cornbread is sweet and tasty, and the prices are very good. I really enjoyed the service. The young woman was knowledgeable and personable. My crony who took me claims there are better BBQ joints in town. That might be so, but this one was very good, and it's conveniently located for me. I'll be back.

I'd say GT South's is the best bbq in Indy. Everything is amazing, and what tops it all off is the TO DIE FOR hot bbq sauce. We go here at least once every couple of weeks because it is TOO good to get old. The servers are all chill as "heck" which makes the whole experience even better. I love this hole in the wall, top-notch find.

Bring the cornbread back! Biscuits are ok , but when the waiter excitedly told us it comes w apple butter, we were disappointed that it was a Smuckers packet. Meat great as always, and BEST BBQ sauce in all the land! Super laid back place w good prices.

An online deal brought me here the first time, the tasty food and fast service brought me back for a second and third visit! G.T. South's is a no frills barbecue joint in a strip mall in an odd part of town. The food is good, the prices are decent, and the service is fast. Park your butt in a booth or a table and prepare to be greeted soon after being seated. Pick your meat (I'd recommend the smoked chicken or the beef brisket) and sides (I'd recommend the mac n cheese and mashed potatoes -- I know -- carb overload!) and you'll have it in front of you within minutes along with a complimentary corn muffin. The service has been consistently quick and cordial. Overall, its a good place to get a good meal!

GT Souths has been around a long time for a good reason. I am a huge fan of BBQ and this place does it right. The meat has good smokey flavor, it is not too fatty/greasy, and the sauce is a nice balance of sweet and spicy. You can order take out by the pound at a reasonable price for a party or family dinner. The restaurant could use some updating but contrary to other reviews I have always had good service.

My favorite BBQ place in Indy! They have great Mac n cheese, coleslaw and sweet tea! Ask for mixed sauce and they'll give you hot BBQ sauce and mild BBQ sauce

Went here for lunch on a Friday around 11-1130 with five coworkers. Service was good, drinks never got below half full. We ordered a variety of items, I got the brisket platter with hot sauce with turned greens and coleslaw. The brisket was tender and almost able to pull apart with my fork. The hot sauce was decently spicy. The combo had good flavor. The coleslaw was very watery and lacked much flavor. Turned greens were saturated with vinegar and were not good. I would come back as try again, must do the ribs next time.

Great BBQ and great sides! I've had the ribs and the pulled pork and both are excellent. This is an authentic-you-will-smell-like-smoke-when-you-leave no frills type of barbecue joint that you would find in North Carolina, KC, or any traditional BBQ hotbed. I've had better, easier to fall off the bone ribs before, but these are some of the best you will find in Indianapolis. You can order the ribs wet or dry if you don't want sauce. I like dry, because you can just dip in the sauce. They have a thicker ketchup type sauce by default, but I believe you can ask for vinegar based sauce too. The hot is pretty hot, so I usually make a mixture of mild and hot. I really like the mac n cheese as a favorite side. The sweet tea is recommended too.

We've been seeing GT South's running a special on Groupon and Amazon Local for sometime now, so we finally decided to purchase one and give the place a try. We soon found out that GT's could be a hidden gem here in Indianapolis. It definitely doesn't have the most up to date decor and you definitely don't need to wear fancy. We did find they have plenty of seating, anything from family dining to a seats at their full service bar. We started of with the Pulled Pork Nachos and the serving size was perfect for two people. Then we decided to share the combination platter. Again perfect size for two people. It came with perfect portion of each of their shredded meat options, ribs, a biscuit, and your choice of two sides. My boyfriend and I have different opinions in our BBQ sauces so our server Seth let us order two different BBQ sauces to satisfy our picky needs. We are a little spoiled when it comes to BBQ joints. BBQ joints are our favorite stops when we travel, so we have been to our fair share. GT's meat is not our favorite as it seamed to be sitting their for awhile. But we did enjoy their "hot" BBQ sauce and plan on purchasing some to use at home. The prices were phenomenal. We had purchase a Amazon Local that was worth $25 and our bill was just a little over that before tip. We've heard so many fantastic reviews and we are a little sad we were not completely blown away.

GT South is a strong BBQ joint. A bit above joint with seating for business or friends. Nothing fancy except the fast top notch servers and the consistent quality. Going there now.

Came here on a recommendation by a friend and was very, very disappointed.. If this is what people in Indy consider good BBQ then they have never had good BBQ.. First off the pulled pork had no flavor and the brisket was dry.. The bbq sauce tasted like a weird marinara sauce.. The Mac and cheese was made with powdered cheese and the corn bread was soo dense and it had no corn meal flavor.. If you have had good bbq don't go here because this is not even remotely close to good bbq.. I won't be back.

We came here recently for the first time and we will definitely be back! The inside is pretty run down looking and old, but the food was great & the staff was friendly. We ordered the sample platter and were not disappointed. The best things were the ribs, brisket, and spicy BBQ sauce!

    (4)
  • Linda M.

I ordered the beef Manhattan. The sauce was on the side. The mashed potato was hard and definitely needed the yummy beef gravy. The beef was okay. The bread was just plain white bread (not even toast) sandwiching the beef. The mac and cheese was no big deal to me. So the best part was the gravy.

Good BBQ at a good price. Get the hot sauce. The sides are all very tasty. I recommend the BBQ beans and Mac/cheese. The restaurant ambiance is lacking.

This place has been given a lot of hype in my circle of friends and I've been trying to get here for months now. I went during lunch time on a Tuesday and they had a decent amount of patrons. I ordered the half order of rib tips and my friend got the brisket sandwich. After eating I was left with an over whelming sense of "meh." The tips were covered in sauce and my friends sandwich did not look appetizing at all. The sizes were all bland in my opinion. If I could give them a rating based on service alone they would definitely get a 5 but the food was so disappointing.

Don't let the decor fool you. The food is downright good and I WILL be returning. Thought I would try this restaurant on a groupon and they have by BBQ business from now on! The inside looks like a no frills, wood paneling diner but you don't need flash when the food speaks for itself. I tried the brisket with classic/mild sauce. Great smoke ring on the meat and great tender flavor. The sauce was a great compliment to the meat flavor. The sides that come with are typical BBQ sides: green beans, baked beans, red potatoes, mac and cheese, cole slaw. The red potatoes were done to perfection and the cole slaw had a little kick of pepper in it but was just the right consistency. My fiancee tried the pulled pork and 4 ribs. He thought the pork was fantastic and juicy and the ribs were just falling off the bone (YUM!). Groupon may have brought us in, but the food will keep us coming back for more. They also offer a catering menu and take out options as well. Next super bowl party they are on my list to call.

We have gotten the chance to experience GT's twice now -- both for take-out (Superbowl party!) and dine-in. I can honestly say that this place is legit when it comes to tasty, smokey, meaty BBQ goodness. Hosting friends for the big game gave us the perfect excuse to call and place a take-out order from GT's. When we realized that we needed more food than we had expected, we called and they were amazing at accommodating our request. This also gave us a chance to sample every kind of meat that they offer -- aside from the Baby Back Ribs (they were sold out due to a large Superbowl Catering order) and the turkey -- but we got a chance to try both of these meats during our dine-in visit recently. YUM. Particular stand outs in the meat category have been the pulled pork, the brisket, the turkey breast (my fav), the baby backs, and the smoked chicken wings (Hubs still raves about these). I cannot express how moist and tender the sliced turkey was...so so so good. The pulled chicken was a little dry -- but it is a lean meat, so I guess that is somewhat expected. Add one of the house made BBQ sauces and it's all good. Random -- get the Chili if it is offered -- it's so hearty and meaty with a hint of sweetness to it. YUM. The sides were just kind of decent -- with the mac and cheese and baked beans being my favorites. Add a little hot BBQ to the mac and chese if you are feeling adventurous. The new potatoes were interesting to say the least and the cole slaw was tasty. The BBQ sauces served on the side were SO flavorful and the spicy really does have a kick -- which I appreciate and love. Do yourself a favor and save room for the cobbler -- the peach to be specific -- served with ice cream. I could OD on their cobbler for real. The blackberry is good, but the peach is where it's at. You're welcome. I must mention that during our most recent visit our server made the dine-in experience extraordinary and awesome. Crystal was super friendly, attentive, spot-on with recommendations, and very knowledgeable about the food and business in general. Never did we feel rushed or like a bother. She made us very comfortable and we will most likely request her when we return. In the spirit of complete disclosure, I had to dock a star for a few reasons: first, because the biscuits are not good at all -- dry, bland, and one of the only food offerings that is not made on site. Rumor has it that they are going to start making their own corn bread again...and I sure hope they do. Please, GTs...make a good, tasty, starchy bread side on site. Second, they way they just serve the new potatoes is odd to me... just boiled and put on the plate whole. Maybe throw some butter and dill on those puppies or something? And speaking of puppies...what about adding hush puppies as a selection? Hmmm... Take away: Get the Groupon to try them out -- and let them know you have one up front -- they won't treat you any differently for using one but it helps them with entering the order some how. Also, PLEASE don't let the stripmall-esque setting, outdated decor, or janky parking lot deter you -- come in and get some real food here. The focus seems to be TOTALLY on the food and good service -- not the decor -- but isn't that what good BBQ is all about? We have totally found our new go-to spot close to home. Thanks, GT Souths!

Amazing bbq. When you walk in you smell the smoke and you know you are in for a treat. I always go with the sampler platter which includes pulled pork, chicken, and ribs and sides. I highly recommend it with sauce on the side. The ribs fall off the bone and have that nice smokey flavor. They are moist and delicious. I get sauce on the side because I only use a little bit of it, they have enough of a great flavor on its own. Their mild sauce is very sweet. I loved it though. My wife is from South Carolina and didn't care for it. So she got the hot sauce and said it wasn't nearly as sweet and was delicious. The restaurant is very clean and they also have amazing service.

It has only taken me several years of living on Indy's Northeastside to finally find my way to GT South's Rib House, an authentic rib joint that has been around since 1992 having grown from a small 28-seat restaurant to its present size of 5,000 square feet and able to accommodate 190 diners. I will admit that I tend to avoid rib joints because, well, I don't actually like ribs. Actually, to be more accurate I'm a slightly spastic paraplegic who abhors the mess I make when I try to eat ribs. It would be sort of like placing Pigpen inside a pig pen. Ya know? Anyway, as I've learned over the years, it seems to be true that most rib joints actually have foods other than ribs and, in fact, I tend to like those other foods like pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and a variety of other sandwiches and meals. So, on a rainy day in Indianapolis with the temperature rising and my energy depleted I decided to go ahead and venture over for my first visit to GT South's. To look at GT South's, you'd probably think to yourself it's just a little divey hole-in-the-wall (which actually fits rib joints anyway). Actually, you'd kind of be right. It's located in a small strip center with at least one other restaurant, a bar, and I believe another business. There's also a police sub-station next door, so I'd avoid any temptation to act out. They have a single accessible parking spot, but they do have a wheelchair ramp and the one spot does meet ADA requirements. I'd actually stopped into GT South's a week or so ago, but I didn't see the spot and didn't end up stopping. So, it's good to know it's there and actually is clearly marked. They have a double-sided entry that is pretty manageable, but the staff was obviously paying attention despite my arrival on the early side of the dinner hour. I was greeted at the door and helped right away to a four-top table where the server removed two chairs to allow room for the wheelchair. I was rather tickled to be seated right beneath this really awesome print of hands that I just fell in love with while dining. My server, Kristi, was incredibly warm and friendly and I learned quite a bit about the restaurant before also learning that she's also part of the family that owns the restaurant. Because they also offer catering, they have a staff of right around 35 and it was a nice plus to be able to meet someone within the family because I think that always gives you a sense of the business. The GT South's decor is quite simple, but warm. If you require lots of polish and shine, you'll probably find yourself checking the silverware to see if it's clean, but the older establishment is warm and well cared for with a main dining area, a private dining area, and a middle section that looked like where you did take out orders, etc. I ordered my usual unsweetened iced tea and it was brought to the table in a timely manner. After deliberating a little bit, I opted for a pulled pork sandwich. It comes with chips along with one side - I chose cole slaw among choices that also included mac n' cheese, red potatoes, apple sauce, turnip greens cornbread, and a few others. I didn't see any sort of upgrade options (like turning the chips into fries), but the sandwich itself came as regular for $6.95 or jumbo for an extra dollar. I hadn't eaten lunch, so I opted for the jumbo. The pulled pork was definitely on the upper tier of pulled pork sandwiches that I've had locally. Kristi offered me samples of both the mild and hot bbq sauces. I tried both and definitely preferred the hot - it was hot, but not too hot. The meat was flavorful, tender, and really lingered on my palate in just the right way. The bun initially seemed like a generic bun, but it was large enough for the sandwich and seemed to be lightly toasted. It complemented the flavor without dominating it. The cole slaw was also very good, though folks who prefer ultra-creamy cole slaw might be a touch disappointed. I like cole slaw that allows me to taste all of its ingredients and this decent-sized cup definitely did. With the entire meal right around $11, it was definitely a good meal at a good price and I would definitely order it again. I am knocking off one star for one fairly significant faux pas in my world - I didn't get offered an iced tea refill despite lingering a few minutes after my meal and the glass being empty. There are times I'd actually knock down even another star for that, because my refills are truly that important. That said, the service was otherwise terrific and the food was definitely higher than 3-star food. When a drink is right around $2.50, it's not unreasonable to expect at least one refill without having to ask. Have you ever visited a restaurant where you just instantly felt comfortable? That's how I felt at GT South's, where even the customers were friendly. I really liked it here, not because it was razzle-dazzle, but because I had a good meal and felt welcome!

If you like southern BBQ, you owe it to yourself to check out G T Souths on the northeast side. Pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken are all on the menu. Homemade sides like beans, slaw, greens, mac n cheese and potato salad round out the meal. Very simple atmosphere with awesome BBQ for less than you'd expect to pay. For lunch I recommend the jumbo pulled pork sandwich w/911 sauce and potato salad & greens.

I really, really, really want to love this place. I've given them so many chances to change my mind. And yet, I walk away each and every time thinking it could've been--should've been--so much better. The food is great. G.T. South's barbecue sauce is really tasty. That's not the problem. Problem isn't even the ambiance, which I know going in isn't great. I accept that. I like that about it, actually. It's a true mom-and-pop place. No frills. Problem is the TEMPERATURE of the food. It's ALWAYS cold. Every single time we go, we jokingly say, "Wonder if our food will be hot today." It never is. NEVER. I get one of two things every time I go (I've only been to the location on 71st Street, so I can't speak for the Emerson locale): the PULLED PORK SANDWICH with potato salad, chips and sweet tea (the "House Specialty at $4.75) or the BAR-B-Q BEEF BRISKET PLATTER with sweet tea ($9.50). Just writing this review makes me want to try one more time ... it's really, really good. It's just really, really room temperature or colder. Here's an idea: when you order, ask them to throw it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds or so right before bringing it to the table!

i grew up right down the street from GT South's and my family was there every week when it was just one room and we watched it quickly grow! this is some of the best BBQ i've had... ever! the sauce, the meat and the sides are all to die for. eat there or get carry-out and you will not be disappointed

I'm a big BBQ fan...and in my opinion, GT South's has the best in the Indy area. Very "down home" relaxed atmosphere with incredible food (especially the pulled pork). My only criticism of the food is the cornbread. A little too dry and not sweet enough for my taste. Other than that...a great local BBQ house.

I really like this place, but I didn't love it. The food is really good, but the service is a bit sketchy. The waiter seemed a bit rude, but thankfully for the most part, he was attentive, which is more than what you can ask for any waiting staff. As for the food, it was delicious! I love their ribs, their bbq pulled pork, their coleslaw, the hot bbq sauce, most of it is just delicious! The only thing I didn't really care for is their pulled chicken, because it is kind of dry for my liking! Their brisket is also pretty tasty too! Reasonably priced, dimly lit, TV for the sports watchers, crowded with piggy memorabilia--I'd definitely go back.

Near my office, I have gotten take out here at least 30 times a year, and have still never eaten inside. Nothing against the interior of the place, but it is quite reliable and fast. I did a big take out order one time for a party too, very helpful staff, well prepared, packaged just right. I'm not the biggest fan though of the baby back ribs, perhaps I'll try again. Very good pulled pork and/or chicken. Quality slaw too. Spicy sauce for the pork is just right.

What it comes down to is that every other barbecue restaurant makes me wish I was having GT South's instead. Their meat is never greasy, their macaroni and cheese should never be ordered in a single serving, and their sauce is on my holiday wish list every year. I love that I see familiar faces who have been working there for years, can call for carry-out three seconds before I walk in the door, and know I am getting great food every single time I go there. Travis would be proud of the consistent good things happening at GT South's!

Delicious... but be ready for debate with friends and family as to which is better, the brisket or the pulled pork! Also, if you order the 911 hot sauce, they mean it... you might shed a tear, but you'll love it!

GT has been a long tradition for me. Every single time I go, including tonight, the food is exactly as I expect. It is almost like a robotic exercise. This could be a very bad thing if the food was poor, but GT is very good. The pulled pork is smoky and tender. The chicken is very flavorful. I like the Mac and cheese, but the noodles could be more al dente. The key for me however, which has caused me to be alienated by my closest friends, is my typical choice of the beef manhattan. I love manhattans and I love GT's.

I met up with a friend here for lunch on 11-11-11, which was my own little holiday, as well as Nigel Tufnel Day. If you don't know, well.. I was a bit weary of making this my pre-indoor rock climbing lunch endeavor, but I managed to eat all my food, climb the walls and be just fine. I had the pulled pork sandwich, chips and mac n cheese. Damn that mac n cheese was so good and creamy! Yum! The pulled pork sandwich was great- Just the right amount of meat. Sometimes you get a sandwich like this and there's too much bun. This was just right. And why do chips go so well with barbecue sandwiches? I'd really like to check this place out again. I tried to come here once, but they were closed.

Ah, Yelp, you're so kind. Really. There we were, yet again, in one of my most-loathed areas of Indy -- Castleton (with its Mall-centric street planning of recessed strip malls of hard-to-find signage). Really, I think it might be my biggest annoyance in life is having to look for signage in set-back strip malls while driving in a highly-congested area, surrounded by people who have one thing on their mind: MALL. It's troubling. Thus, Yelp. Where do we go for: one $ sign, open now, and nearby. With one stipulation requested by the Shotgun: "juicy meat." Well there is G.T. South's Rib House says Yelp. Okay then. Not sure what to expect, but sure enough: it's cheap, it's fast, and it's non-smoking. The smoked turkey ($6.50) was crazy juicy and tender. The 1/3 slab of ribs (wet, $8.25) was crazy juice and the "fall off the bone" variety. I was pretty happy about the 1/3 slab option. It's just enough. The service was superb. Being that the meat is cooked low & slow all day, it literally took less than 2 minutes for them to take the order then bring the food out. For the folks that weren't aware of the meat being cooked all day it might freak them out the meat came out so fast, but that's why: it's ready & waiting for you to conquer. I went with the hot variety of the bbq sauce. Yes, not very traditional. Although it was good, their traditional sauce was amazing. I think they add Dr. Pepper, Pibb or Barq's to it. It's their own recipe, and restaurants that have their own sauce typically are legitimate. The interior is a very basic, non-offending set up with plenty of tables, all with table-service and high-back booths. They serve beer. They have $1.50 domestics on Saturday & Sunday, and they had my college-era favorite: Red Hook ESB, which paired really well with the ribs. This place has been around since 1992, and now I know why.

Got the ribs here recently. They were "OK." In contrast to my favorite rib place in Indy, Dick's Bodacious Barbecue, 1. They grill or bake their ribs. Doing so leaves the typical (but undelicious) "black crust" on the ribs. (Dick's just smokes their ribs, leaving them nice and juicy.) 2. They put sauce on their ribs. The sauce is fine. (Dick's does not put any sauce on; you do that yourself.) 3. The meat on the ribs is a bit scanty. (Dick's ribs are mighty meaty!) The price is the virtually the same for a full rack as it is at Dick's, but Dick's ribs are far better. In the Yelp reviews for Dick's people are trashing the place. For GT South, they are mostly positive. Go figure. I think the ribs at GT South are objectively inferior to Dick's. Check 'em both out and see what you think!

Underwhelmed with the presentation, the sauce, the buns are blah and the hole and the wall experience isn't up to par either. Overall not feel'n the urge to return.

I consider myself to be a BBQ connoisseur, having grown up in Kansas City around some of the best smoke houses and rib joints in the world. I'm not impressed with chains who write catchy jingles for their baby back ribs, and just because your name includes the word "famous" doesn't mean your ribs are good. So where does this KC snob go when craving ribs, pulled pork, or brisket? GT South's, of course! Service is quick and friendly, and the food never disappoints. Be sure to try the spare ribs! (the 1/3 slab order is more than enough....1/2 slab is plenty for two to share.)

Another strip mall location that is a little hard to find but well worth the effort. Go for the pulled pork or ribs in my opinion. Very tender and juicy. Great flavor without sauce but either the sweet or spicy sauces are worth trying. The beef brisket is not as tender showing it has not been given the time in the smoker this cut needs and there is no sausage on the menu. There is a great selection of sides (portion sizes are kind of small but your here for the BBQ - right). Very budget friendly. Service is very quick, friendly, and attentive.

The pulled pork and pulled chicken are spectacular. If you are going to order carry-out order meals. Their catering pricing, with everything ala carte, can really add up if you are ordering for carry-out.

I've been to both the north and south locations and do like GT Souths occasionally. It's nothing fancy and the decor could definitely use some help, but it's a decent place to grab some BBQ and it's pretty cheap. I recommend the pulled pork or the beef brisket over getting the ribs... they weren't that great. Overall, it's an ok place to go to, as long as you're not heading there with high expectations!

I'd go as high as 3.25 because the servers are nice. Ever since I left the South, I have been looking for good bbq. In California, I can't say I found anything to rave about, and I figured it'd pretty much be the same thing being out here in the Midwest. As far as bbq goes, I finally found a spot. The wife and I went here tonight to get our bbq on. She's doing the low carb thing, so it worked out because she just got meat and veggies, and I got meat and more meat:-D As the other reviews say, this place really is a no frills place. The emphasis of this place is there food, and in my opinion, that's A-OK. Service- our server was very friendly, though brutally honest. We asked her about the turnip greens, and she point blank told us they weren't good. I guess that's better than lying and telling us they rock. Still, not much of a sales pitch. She also was very accomodating to my numerous requests (read on). Ambience- As I said before, hole in the wall. You're not going to score any bonus points for taking someone here for a first date. Food-The wife got the brisket plate ($9.50) with corn and beans, and I got the pulled pork with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. I started out with some sweet tea, but found it not up to the sweetness I like, so I swapped out for coke. The sides were pretty disappointing. My wifes veggies tasted canned, and my mac n cheese, and potatoes were probably instant. My cornbread muffin was dry, and not well mixed (when it was baked, there was still dry corn meal in the mix). No sweet potato option, BOOOO. While the sides were disappointing, the meats were great. My wife's brisket was super tender, and my pulled pork was on par with stuff I had in South Carolina. We both got mild, and while I enjoyed it, my wife thought they put a bit too much on. Overall- probably the best bbq we've had in a while. Next time, we'll skip the sides and just rock the meat. Worth checking out. Chuck Norris rating- elbow to the eye! btw- I hate how there are two separate entries for this place. Can't we condense this ish yelp?

Pulled pork was a little dry and the brisket was a overlooked and wet. It's like they spake it to make it tender or something. Good sweet tea.

GTs has some of the best BBQ in the city! Their hot and 911 sauces are SO tasty and their brisket is some of the best I've had hands down. Their collard greens are top notch and the cornbread is tasty. I recommend either the brisket, the pulled pork nachos or even the pulled pork salad! It's a regular salad with their pulled pork or chicken on top smothered in sauce. The bar selection cocktail wise is great but the beer selection is pretty lacking - just the macros here.

Love the ribs! Fall of the bone and not fatty at all. Ribs have a nice smoky flavor and hot sauce is good but not all that hot. Love the sweet tea. Could do without the mac and cheese. Also have had the Brunswick Stew. YUM. Good southern food with great service for a fair price.

I was hoping to try some local flavor on a recent visit. It's a nice local place with friendly staff. Everything was cooked pretty well - in an academic kind of way. I mean that it was cooked properly and correctly, but was uninspiring. There was no zing - nothing to rave about it. I split the sampler platter with my wife. The best was the pulled pork. It was juicy and flavorful. The ribs were somewhat tender but a little dry. The brisket was juicy. The chicken was dry. The problem with the ribs, brisket, and the chicken was the lack of flavor. You'll definitely need lots of sauce without flavor in the meat. We tried the "hot" and the 911 sauces. The hot was too sweet and no trace of pepper. The 911 was much better with visible pepper seeds and the right mix of slight sweetness, smokiness, and spice. If I were to go back I'd like to try a sausage and stick with the pulled pork sandwich or platter. I do agree with the other reviewer that the food temperature seemed strangely cold. We had a side of mac and cheese and potato salad. They both seemed homemade and had good flavor. My son had a bbq'd cheeseburger which he seemed to enjoy. It came with chips which were good too. Not sure if they were bagged or locally made.

Been going to GT South's since I was a kid and the owner called me Blondie. Since then a lot has changed. The restaurant that used to have one slot in the strip mall on 71st Street has taken over 3 or 4 spots, creating a much larger restaurant, the owner has passed, but the quality of BBQ has stayed on par. This is one of those treasures that you might be afraid of from the outside and still unsure of as you sit down (not much atmoshpere), but take one bite of that BBQ and you will be back for more!

Great BBQ place. We were 4 diners so really sampled everything. I had Southern sampler platter and pork, beef, chicken and ribs all excellent. Will return for a full slab of ribs. Sides were all spot on and hot BBQ sauce really just right blend of taste and kick!! FAR better than Dick's Bodacious downtown with MUCH better atmosphere and service!!

I've been going to G.T. South's since 1993/4 or so, and it is the standard by which I judge all other BBQ. Personally, I order the same thing almost every single time I visit--the pulled pork sandiwch. The side dishes could stand some imporvement true, but the sauce can't be beat. I only wish that they would mix the sauce and meat together like they used to. I no longer live in Indy, but no trip home is complete without a trip to G.T.'s

This place was recommended locally and I found it rated good to excellent here. I was not impressed. I would call it just ok. The food quality was mediocre and the bbq (I had the beef brisquit) was just ok.
