Decided to have brunch here after reading Erin's recent review of the place. Can't believe the lady has been influencing our Indy dining experience for several years now even prior to our move to Indy. Its more of a breakfast place, so your typical breakfast suspects are on the menu. I had the chicken fried steak while the wife ordered one of the special omelette. Of course, we had to try the fried biscuits covered in powdered sugar that you can dip in a cream cheese icing ,that I think they also use for their cinnamon roll, and some orange marmalade. Food is good, though did not find anything exciting or extra special about it. Service was very nice and prompt. Maybe next time we'll try their special cinnamon roll and see how it compares to SA Lulu's.

Spinach skillet is so tasty!! Surfer skillet's bland but good. Excellent coffee! We will definitely be coming back. It's kinda isolated from everything, but has a surprisingly pleasant and funky interior. Service is nice, and responsive. You're pretty visible in the restaurant, so the waiter can clearly see when you need something.

Outstanding breakfast skillet. Stopped on our way through town and wanted to do breakfast at some place other than the chain restaurants. Service was very good and very quick. Food was great. If you are hungry definitely go there. You will be pleasantly full and at a good price.

Delicious food in a relaxed, clean & friendly atmosphere! My husband got the wild bird skillet which was absolutely amazing - it was so flavorful! I got the surfer skillet, which was also great! It wasn't an explosion of flavors like my husbands but each bite was delicious & fresh. The pancakes were so fluffy & served with warm syrup - YUM! I am so excited to come back & try more items off the menu.

The owner gets 3 for his wonderful friendly personality! Not a chain. I had a quesadilla I didn't want breakfast! Nothing to jump up and down about had one you've had enough. Indy doesn't need another Mexican restaurant unless its phenomenal! the potatoes were okay not greasy but they must all be the same size so they fry up at the same time! some were hard. I suppose when breakfast is your specialty maybe you should stick with what you do best! the menu is too large trying to cover too many territories with gyros and Greek salads and American fare ,Mexican fare it's all over the place. whew I'm exhausted! I'd narrow it down to one thing or another and I guess I'd open from the hours of breakfast/brunch,close and focus on what you do well and best and leave the rest of it alone. Lord knows IHOP and Bob Evans aren't serving up anything worth eating let alone pay for! There's no shame in just doing breakfast especially if you own it...be the king or queen of breakfast. I may go to breakfast and see if he owns it it must be better than mine! I'll keep ya posted..

My co-workers and I come here often for breakfast and lunch. Great food and great service. Love the French toast here.

Very delicious food. I got the famous art's skillet and it was just the right amount of spice. You get the skillet and your choice of pancakes, French toast, or biscuit for 7.99! It was a ton of food. My sister had the Hoosier Benedict and said it was her new favorite breakfast meal. The service was good and we were checked on in a timely manner. The owner stopped by the table and remembered that my brother and sister in law had been there before. Great experience.

Best place for breakfast on the east side! Don't need syrup on his pancakes, they are so good without!

I found this new breakfast/brunch restaurant online in the neighborhood of the Fort Harrison Inn, where we were staying. It was a "homerun". The menu was quite extensive with interesting combinations. Our dishes were delicious and the prices were very reasonable, especially on the senior menu. I definitely would recommend trying this new place on Pendleton Pike!

How have I not rated Art's Skillet yet? possibly because I have done work for the man, count him as a friend through this work, and didn't want people to think I rated him the way I do because of business, maybe, but the food is like my favorite breakfast place ever!! I meat the meatlovers skillet is not only super delicious, I get a whole freaking side of pancakes with it!! That is a meal in iteself. The french toast taste great, with awesome flavor. The fruit covered waffles, are super yummy. This man forced me to eat chicken noodle soup (I hate chicken noodle soup, smells like bad underarm odor) BUT I LOVED HIS!!! The Chicken Parmesan is awesome too, and I don't eat many peoples, so you know its good. The Extreme Burger is a monster, and will have you busting out of your seams. Okay, I've talked Art's food up enough. If that doesn't way heavy on you to make a stop here, how about the awesome customer service. There is a good chance Art will either stop by or wait on your table. He is not an owner to sit behind a desk while employees run the brand, he truly epitomizes the Art's Skillet brand, and does it well. 5 stars for me. I'd give him a 7 on some of his items.

When I am on east side I go out of my way to stop here. Service is great. Someone buys good food product and someone prepares it well. Owner always welcomes you and checks on your meal. Good price. Great place.

This place was impressive. The decor is simply but clean. Ordered the cinnamon roll, it was good not great. The tanginess of the glaze was not to my liking. We were not in the experimental mood so just ordered corned beef hash and eggs. My husband did not leave anything on his plate, so I can say he was pleased. Also ordered banana crepe which was well received by my son. We will come back and I look forward to trying something else. The omlets looked good.

Good breakfast. I had the surfer skillet and it was amazing. Cinnamon rolls were really good too! Sweet but not overly sweet. A really nice local breakfast food joint.

Always good. Art and his staff give the personal touch and pride absent in so many places. Sailors Omelet is always good. We eat here every weekend, it's always Great.

Another favorite east side lunch destination. A very full diner style menu. I'm a big fan of their Monte Cristo but everything I've ordered has been tasty and you can't go wrong with breakfast all day. And daily specials! Generous portions and fair prices are the rule here. The owner, Art, is on site and is always on the move greeting customers, behind the register and generally on top of things. The staff too is quick, efficient and friendly. I'll be back again and again. You should go!

We had a three stack of pancakes, French toast, a cinnamon roll, chocolate milk, and a coffee. The meal was just over $20. The service was slow. My coffee was refilled, but my wife never had an offer for a refill (mainly because we only saw our waitress a couple times). It was not busy at all, so the service should have been much better. Also, my wife ordered a large chocolate milk, which appeared to be about 10 ounces and cost $2.50. Overall, the food was good, the service was poor, and the price was high compared to what we received. When we can fill up for lunch at places like Papa Roux and Guadalajara for less than $20, paying over $20 for breakfast with below average service is a disappointment. Next time, we'll stick with Bob Evans or Steak n' Shake for breakfast.

Really wanted Arts to be that diamond in the rough, but at first glance of the menu a version of LePeep nothing new here. Our server did not introduce herself, this is a turn off to me. It seemed like we are an inconvenience to her. The interior is very clean and bright, but watching the expo keep on the same glove to grab trays, butter toast, and run the food a big turn off. It is sad to see just another place with the same lack of importance to food. My wife's add in "it was edible".

I enjoyed my meal at Art's. I dined alone on a Wednesday morning and was seated and served mostly by Arturo himself. The other two servers helped and did a fairly good job. I am a snob when it comes to my eggs Benedict so their version , I give a 3 out of 5 because the hollandaise sauce wasn't house made and the Canadian bacon was ham with the casing still on. Still tasty but I love shaved Canadian bacon so one does not need a knife or have to disassemble the dish to remove the Rhine. Next, the cubed version of potatoes offered sounded great but were a frozen deep fried product with Lawry's salt added. I can't stress enough how important using fresh, homemade products is. I will certainly come back as I can see they are busy and are very hospitable, not to mention the place looked spotless. I noticed they just started serving dinner so I will check that out next. One last thing and this is huge with me are the Togo boxes. I realize they are very expensive but Art's uses the cheap, white styrofoam ones and in today's market, that won't cut it. Please go ahead and get nice plastic ones with clear tops and a higher quality napkin and flatware. It really is the little things that move you to the rare, upper level of restaurants.

I loved Arts! My boyfriend and I woke up one morning and wanted to go out for breakfast. We've heard about Arts and it's close by, so we thought we'd try it out. It was Sunday morning so it was busy, but we got seated right away by Art himself(who was extremely friendly). They have a ton of different skillets on their menu, but I ordered a customized one. It came almost immediately, and exactly as I'd ordered it. Our server was named Kristen and she was awesome, you could tell she was busy but our drinks were refilled as soon as they were low and our food came out super quick. We enjoyed our meal, and we enjoyed the environment. It was cozy and family oriented. Its been a while since I've expirienced that here in Indy. You should absolutely go!

Hands down the best meal I've had in all of my trips to Indianapolis. I had the Art's Famous Skillet and it was amazing! Nice combination of flavored, quality chorizo and delicious salsa to add to it. You've gotta eat here, period.

If you're looking for local breakfast food on the east side this will for sure satisfy your cravings. The staff is friendly and the food is great. Best of all Art makes you feel like a friend. The first time I walked in he greeted us like he hasn't seen friends in years. Very hospitable.. Breakfast is my favorite meal and I won't go to another chain restaurant again.

It's a rainy Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. I spent most of my morning hanging out in my house trying to get my body to work the way I wanted it to work. Finally, about 1:30pm I got myself going well enough to start thinking about lunch. I wasn't wanting to travel far and I was in the mood for something simple. I'd been wanting to check out Art's Skillet for quite a while, but my schedule isn't real complementary to their hours of 6am - 4pm, Monday - Saturday. The last time I drove by while they actually were open, they looked so crowded that I found myself not wanting to mess with the crowd. Today was perfect. I mean, sure, I was a disheveled and unshaven mess from the aforementioned rough day physically, but the rain seemed to have impacted their crowd a bit and it was an ideal time to give them a try. Art's Skillet is located on Pendleton Pike in what most would be likely to call a "bad neighborhood," though I've personally never had much of a problem there. It's in a free-standing building that has been a few other restaurants including a doughnut shop that is now located in the adjacent strip center. I can still remember what a dump this building was the last time I entered the building and, quite honestly, I wasn't expecting much in terms of appearance today. I was wrong. Art's Skillet, named for owner/founder Arturo Ugaldo, is a warm and hospitable little joint from the moment you enter its simply yet beautifully decorated walls. It's a small restaurant, in fact, I think at one point it may have even been a Rally's a few years back, but Art has done some amazing things with the interior and even added some outdoor seating. I once again continued my tradition of ordering lunch items from a place primarily known for breakfast, primarily because I'd seen they recently added breaded tenderloin and I thought I might find a new gem for my friend Rick Garrett (aka, The Tenderloin Connoisseur). Next time around, and there will be a next time, I will likely go for breakfast as I wouldn't be surprised if it knocked this rating up the final star. I was greeted warmly by a server, whose name I never caught, as she was carrying a tray of food to another party. Yep, I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for a server who can multi-task and still be friendly. She quickly got back with me and took my drink order of the usual unsweetened iced tea. I then added the breaded tenderloin platter that includes one side (in my case, fries) for $7.29. The entire meal came in at $10.12 and was one of the higher priced options on the menu. The meal itself was a solid 4-star experience. The tenderloin was a nice sized, obviously breaded tenderloin but lacked the flavor and consistency of the truly top of the line tenderloin sandwiches. It's easily in the top half of tenderloin sandwiches that I've experienced, but if I were looking for a truly top notch tenderloin I'd likely go elsewhere. The fries were fairly straightforward fries, but they were nicely browned and served in a larger than expected order. I definitely got a great value for the price. I also got my usual refill and the offer of one for the road - more big pluses. The server was a delightful young woman who was attentive without hovering and consistently friendly. She was the kind of woman who uses the word "sweetie" and seems to actually mean it. On a day when I wasn't feeling great, her service was warm and welcome and exactly what I needed. It is important to note that only the Westside door actually has a wheelchair ramp. There's one accessible parking spot there, though it's not ADA compliant. However, the other side doesn't have a ramp at the entrance so you'd need to be able to jump the curb if you're in a wheelchair. Art was present and onsite, a quiet yet friendly man who started the restaurant after the 2012 economy crash cost him his job. As I noted, they have a massive breakfast menu and apparently a quite wonderful cinnamon roll that I didn't try this time around. I would also note that this is also a restaurant that can easily serve Spanish speaking customers, though I was also impressed with the diversity of its employees and customers. While it was undoubtedly helped by the fact that they weren't packed, I was also impressed that nobody flinched when I decided to linger a few minutes enjoying some reading. All in all, I'm happy to say that Art's Skillet is definitely a new indie gem on Indy's Eastside. While I'm not quite prepared to take it all the way up to five stars, it was a wonderful weaving together of good food, great prices, and absolutely terrific customer service.

Rolling around 465 on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon and craving brunch food I pulled up my Yelp app and selected a new place -- Art's Skillet -- to fill our bellies. The Yelp Gods were definitely smiling upon us today! YUM! We were quickly seated and greeted by our attentive server who was friendly, full of suggestions, and always on top of coffee refills. The place was pretty full and had a steady flow of patrons, but they kept things moving. The menu had a great selection of breakfast, brunch, and lunch-type options and there were additional specials on a double-sided card on the table as well. The huge cinnamon roll and fried biscuits rolled in powdered sugar looked amazing, but I was *trying* to be good. I opted for the Surfer's Skillet -- perfectly cooked/slightly crispy peasant potatoes layered with avocado, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh basil, and melted jack and cheddar cheese topped with scrambled egg whites. For my 'side', I chose the perfectly cooked half waffle -- slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Add sugar free syrup (yes!) and I was one happy gal. I seriously inhaled that skillet like it was my job and was perfectly full. Just the right amount of food. So happy. The hubs chose the Meat Lovers Skillet (no cheese) with a side of French toast -- 1 piece cut in half topped with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The french toast was perfectly cooked -- not soggy nor dry -- with a great hint of vanilla. His skillet was also tasty if you are a meat loving kind of person. Coffee seemed slightly better than your average diner coffee for some reason and refills were a plenty ($2 a bottomless cup). Toward the end of our meal Art himself came around to clear dishes from our table. We struck up a conversation and he mentioned that everything is made from scratch -- in-house and fresh. He sincerely thanked us for coming in and asked us to return soon. Nice guy. We will definitely return to Art's when we are in the area around lunch/brunch time again in the future -- and may opt to sit on the patio once it warms up a bit.

This little spot hidden on the east side is worth a drive if you LOVE breakfast. I knew instantly when I walked in that the tagline, 'Specializing in the art of breakfast' was no joke. From the huge homemade cinnamon rolls to the smells wafting from the skillets I knew we had landed in breakfast heaven. I ordered the gypsy skillet and added jalapenos. The skillets are very filling. Mine arrived hot and tasty. The cinnamon roll was out of this world and definitely big enough to split. The bill was reasonable. The service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Every item lived up to the picture and description. I would definitely recommend for breakfast.

Great food - love the surfers skillet and navy skillet! If you like spicy Art's skillet is great. French toast was terrific for something sweet. Art is friendly and visits the tables, he obviously cares about his customers and restaurant!
