Adel’s Gyros Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This tiny little hole in the wall is my new favorite. Service goes a long way, and Adel is the sweetest little Greek man you'll ever meet. He was kind enough to let us sample the lamb meat and later treated us to baklava (holla!). I can confidently recommend both of them. You won't be coming for the decor, but you'll be staying for the food and the service.

You can't go wrong with a gyro from here, pretty much family run. Lunch time has been really busy lately, article in the paper. So call your order in it go at off times if your not in a rush... Well worth it!

I wondered over here after picking out my annual flowers at Rosie's Garden next door. So glad I did! The gyro was fantastic! I ordered it spicy-- it was perfectly delicious and large enough that the other half will be my dinner. Perhaps the best part is that the owner, Adel, took my order and is the nicest, most welcoming man. I'll definitely be back!

Adel's Gyros is a place most might drive by when you see the outside. Or you may turn around and leave when you walk in. It may not be much to look at but it does serve good gyros and hummus. I had the spicy hummus with pita. The hummus is somewhat runny but has good flavor especially with the chili paste on top. Not really middle eastern but still tasty. The gyros are huge and easily make two meals. Spit roasted, not cooked on a flat top. The tatziki has large chunks of cucumber and is very good. Could use more garlic though. Give it a shot, maybe Adel will use the extra income to renovate the restaurant.

Whoa. I decided to come here because it was on the 2015 Yelp Top 50 Indiana Restaurants list and I figured I'd put another notch in my belt for trying to eat at every restaurant on the list. The fact that it was closer to my new office helped out a bit, too. Adel's Gyros is in one of those hybrid strip centers/medical buildings that are designed to look like houses with pillars out front and windows on the roof that don't seem to lead anywhere. I knew once I pulled into the center that the place was going to be a dive, and I was right. You could almost call it a dump, but I feel really mean for saying that. Regardless, the tiles haven't been replaced in eons, the walls are marred with nicks from the chairs, and Greek Orthodox iconography are awkwardly placed throughout. I just looked at the list, and this place is #17. Naturally, the second thing that ran through my head was, "Then, this food better be a life-changing experience for me." Only one man was working; I went in after the lunch rush, maybe 1:30p or so. Two parties were sitting outside and another were inside. I had a difficult time trying to choose what I wanted to eat because everything sounded so good. Remind me the next time I go to try their spanakopita, dolamities, baklava-- oh, screw it, I'm going to make it a point to try everything on their menu! I ultimately decided to go with the falafel and it was really amazing, served on a bed of pita bread, tomatos, onions, and cukes with hummus and tzatsiki on the side. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be eaten as a sandwich, but no matter how hard I try, I can never keep all of my fillings in my tacos, so I ate them all individually. The falafel itself was piping hot, so I managed to get through one of them before deciding to eat my veggies. In that time, they were still warm, but bearable to the touch. The falafel were crispy on the outside, but not super crunchy like some are, and the pita, hummus, and tzatsiki were clearly homemade. So the four stars is attributed to its shoddy decor and ambience, but honestly I think their food more than makes up for it. I most certainly will be going back and will more than likely try everything on their menu.

Adel's Gyros are legit. Adel is a great guy and very welcoming, he tried to talk me into the spicy Gyro, but I wasn't ready to take the dive. I thoroughly enjoyed the Gyro and the tzatziki sauce was the best part! It was fresh and had a unique taste. There is plenty of meat so you will go back to work satisified. I'll be back soon.

On my second trip here, I had the gyros sandwich - spicy. It is by far the best gyros one can get in the Indianapolis-Carmel metro area. Highly recommended. On my first trip about a year ago, I had the falafel and hummus, also spicy, which were both delicious, though not the best I've had (coming from a Jewish family, our homemade is hard to beat!). I would definitely say that the ambience and overall look of the restaurant is run down, but I think this might benefit it due to the low prices, quick and friendly service and traditional look of a Greek dive restaurant (there are Greek flags and Greek heritage photos throughout the store). My only problem is that I felt the store might not be clean due to the fact that it is indeed run down. 4 stars.

You may pull up to the place and think to yourself here? And the answer is yes! I'm in Indi. For a couple of days working and had a craving for a gyro and this place did not disappoint. Packed the meat high, and was very flavorful. Now I'm not sure if the gentleman who helped me was Adel but he was very nice and had a great smile. Will come again if I ever make my way back to this area.

So I live in Ohio, and found this place thru Yelp while visiting Indiana, now I must stop here every time I'm in the city!! Delicious spicy gyros, fresh pita, and the service directly from Adel is awesome. Tho I'm not a fan of the fries, the gyros and service more than make up for it! Locally owned, small and authentic, I highly recommend!!

  • Stirling M.

This is, hands down, the best Gyro on the North side, and you get way more than you pay for. Seriously, it's enough meat for 2-3 gyros. I take the remainder home and throw it in with some pasta or some such the next day.

  • Zs B.

This is one of my favorite locally owned little restaurants. Adel is very friendly, hard working (he basically runs this place by himself, working here six twelve hour days a week), always has a smile on his face, and is extremely generous with his food. Is it really so important to complain about the decor when good food is served by a friendly owner?

This place seemed empty when we came and wasn't sure about it but my first time eating a Gyro amazing! So so so good! Highly recommended!

I love love love this place. The owner is super nice and always loves to have a chat with you. The portions you get are massive...easily splittable with 2 people and if you order hummus on the side, get ready to get a Costco helping. The only concern I have here is the price. For a gyro and a side of hummus...it was $15. I understand the portions are huge, but maybe have a smaller portion option for a smaller cost? I would be perfectly happy with half of what I get. The menu is a bit limited with Gyro, Shewarma, and falafel being the main options so don't go expecting variety other than the normal staples. Also, maybe work on some decor. Great food can only get you so far and I can't very well give this place a full 5 stars until it is a more complete package. In the mean time, I will enjoy this place everytime I get a hankering for a Gyro.

Huge portions but so good. The owner was so welcoming and appreciative. I'd definitely return.

I swear I wrote an update for this place and it's miraculously gone. Oh well...I get to write another one. I was upset my first visit here because they were closed at least an hour before they were supposed to be. But I decided to give them another chance and I'm glad I did. I ordered the spicy gyro and HOLY COW! I opened the Styrofoam container and there's was a buttload of meat in there. Seriously, nearly the entire tray was meat. And the meat was gooooooood. Pretty tasty stuff. And their tzatziki is good stuff, too. Don't expect a nicely decorated location, because you won't find that here. It actually sort of looks like they're in the middle or remodeling...but they're not. It's just really like that. This really is what I think of when I think mom & pop. But who cares! The food is good! So go here to satisfy your Greek food fix. Just be sure to go a couple hours before closing...because otherwise, they might be closed.

I tried the Spanakopita on my last visit & really enjoyed it! I usually order the gyro & am absolutely stuffed after leaving (that is if I try to finish it all) but this was a nice change of pace & served with a nice large side salad. I don't really care for lettuce but the dressing smelled good so I tried a bite. I'm not sure if it was a standard Greek salad dressing but it made me wish I could tolerate lettuce. My husband was more than happy to eat the salad & gave me some of the hummus that came with his meal (the regular shawema). We also had some baklava to go....mmmmm baklava!! I'm wiling to bet that had I known about the salad & asked for a different side Adel would have been more than happy to substitute it for a bit of hummus...he's just THAT nice! :-)

  • Katie H.

What a great little place! Only basic tables and chairs. The room is a little plain looking and not much on the decor. The service was polite, and very quick. Our gyro sandwiches were wonderful! The hummus tasted very fresh, and the pita's were warned on the grill just perfectly. The menu has several curry options, and two desert choices. The gyros were so large that I didn't have enough room for anything else. I'll be sure to save room next time. I'll be back soon!

  • Amy S.

So glad I finally tried this place. But, this finding it s a double edged sword, it is too dangerous having fabulous gyros this close to me! Gyros meat off the spit, tziki sauce not to garlicky n nicely creamy, n i live crinkle cut fries! It's not a fancy looking place but I definately can appreciate keepin overhead low while spending money on quality ingredients. It may have taken longer to get my food than I like (plus I was starving) but several customers came in at once plus he had phone orders. It was worth the wait.

I'm so glad I read the reviews on here. I went three times while I was in town. DELICIOUS and FRESH gyros. The best in Indianapolis!

I could not have been more excited to try Adel's. Greek is my husband's favorite cuisine, so when we had the opportunity to have lunch together I suggested giving Adel's a shot. I was really hoping we could throw this one into the rotation as it is just minutes from my office. Our current beloved Gyro haunt is not quite so convenient a location as Adel's. Sadly, I don't think this relationship is meant to be. The food was good, just not great. We ordered two gyros (one regular, one spicy) and a Greek side salad. The lamb was good. A bit thicker cut than I'm used to, but I liked that. The seasoning for the regular was fine, but the spicy didn't have much of a kick. The tzatziki was outstanding. One of the best I've ever tasted! I loved the big chunks of cucumber. The side salad was kind of sad. Very basic and simple - which is usually a good thing as far as I'm concerned. The veggies were nice and fresh, but they took a wrong turn with the dressing. It was a very basic oil/vinegar, but instead of incorporating the seasonings (Italian, I think) with the dressing, they were just sprinkled on top?? It was like taking a bite of salad with a sawdust topping. The wonderful smiling gentleman that took our order at the counter (Adel, I assume) came by with a couple samples of baklava shortly after we received our food. It was a lovely gesture and interacting with him was definitely my favorite part of the meal! The baklava, however, was not very tasty. All of the honey seemed to be sitting on the bottom, perhaps having resided there for some time? It tasted overly refrigerated and the phyllo had lost a lot of its crispy-ness. I didn't know that could happen. A bite was enough. It was time for us to go. One last comment on the facility itself. Great food will beat out swanky digs for me every time. I love a lot of divey places. This environment just felt more uncomfortable the longer we sat. It just felt...sticky? I don't know. That's the best descriptor the husband and I could manage. We may try Adel's again, but if we do it will definitely be a carry-out situation. I'm sorry I forgot to take pictures! I was distracted by husband's rugged handsomeness and charismatic charm. :-)

A+ absolutely perfect place that we will travel from Avon to eat here. The Baclava is the bomb and you must get it - the best ever! All around great place where the owner plays an active roll in the food preparation and making sure you are happy - WE WERE SO HAPPY ---- BACLAVA WOW !!! We want more more more!

Consistently delicious food. Have been here numerous times, sometimes dining in, sometimes stopping in to carry out. Each visit he and I continue conversation from the last; I have no idea how he always remembers everyone. It is the same for others that stop in while I am there. This is one of my family's favorite treats.

  • Jake K.

Fantastic, Simplistic, Authentic. I can't imagine a better Gyro in Indiana. The meat was surprisingly flavorful, the onions seemed very fresh, the bread was slightly crispier than what I've had in other places (delicious). My only complaint is the location. It's pretty hard to get out of the parking lot at 4:00 pm with tons of traffic passing by.

Two words "LARGE PORTIONS", we ordered the Gyro Platter and took enough meat home to make two more sandwiches. I love this joint

I am half Lebanese and was raised around this food. I remember Sunday supper after church, and the FEAST that was laid out by my family. I can tell you this: THIS IS THE REAL DEAL AND THE BEST MEDITERRANEAN FOOD I HAVE COME ACROSS SINCE THOSE DAYS! Allow me to break it down for you: 1) The Gyros are succulent and beyond tasty. I prefer the spicy, but those of you that don't want that yummy heat will LOVE the regular. The tzaziki is homemade and PERFECT! 2) My wife is excited by very little, but she ADORED the Spanikopita. The warm cheese and spinach oozed out of every bite of the light and crispy filo dough. And (as is the norm for Adel) the portions were HUGE. 3) If I ever had to choose a last meal, it would be my mother's stuffed grape leaves..a MICROSCOPIC 2nd place would be his. He prepares them the night before (as is tradition) and gives them a quick broil TO ORDER. He then cools it off with some lemon juice to enhance the slightly tangy chew of the leaf right before you enjoy the savory spiced beef and rice right below (my mouth is LITERALLY watering while I am writing this). 4) The portions are BEYOND adequate (as I stated before). I still remember four years ago when an average guy walked in, ordered a gyro, chomped down....and as he was walking out with his buddy stated "that was the best seven dollars I ever spent". 5) Adel himself....what can I say; the guy is AWESOME. Such a kind and thankful soul is RARE to find these days. I always tip him well (even with a 30% tip, I'm paying less than other places that try to offer the same food), and I always get "No, no, that's too much". To sum things up, this little place is WORTHY OF FOOD NETWORK and the owner/operator deserves the love and kindness that he puts into his DELICIOUS food back to him ten-fold.

  • Eloise M.

Love love love Adel's Gyros. Try the spicy gyros for a little more flavor kick. The place is ran by the owners and can get a bit busy and chaotic during lunchtime. There are usually only 2 individuals who do everything from taking, preparing, and delivering your order. You order and pay at the counter, fill your drink and patiently wait for the generous portion of gyro meat (they give you so much meat that you can probably make 3 gyro sandwiches if you order extra pita). Go for the food and the warm welcoming but not for the ambiance. It's the typical "hole in the wall" type joint that excels at taste and portions.

  • Skyler N.

This is a little gem on North College near Carmel and worth the drive. They aren't big on decor but the flavor will more than make up for that. And the portions are tremendous.... So take your appetite or have a snack for later.

  • Anna S.

Fresh and tasty. Had a bit of a wait for the food when we arrived at noon but zero complaints about that because when it arrived it was fresh and hot. Even the crinkle fries exceeded expectations! Tzatziki was one of the best I've had. It was chunkier than I'm used to, but that provided more taste and I didn't even eat it all, which is amazing because at most gyro places I have to ask for more. I ate at noon and skipped dinner. So filling. So fresh and I'm so going back!

  • Nick A.

Wow, do yourself a favor and GO! Just stopped by for takeout gyros [less than 10 min out the door btw] and i couldn't be happier! Amazingly huge portions of succulent gyros meat piled on a warm, chewy pita. So happy to have discovered this place thanks to yelp. I'll def be back!

  • Leslie L.

The food is incredible! Don't be turned off by the decor... give the food a try. I would recommend ordering your food and taking it to go. I got a gyro and it was so much food it took me two days to finish it. The meat, which can be ordered spicy or regular... onion or no onion, is placed on flat bread and comes with a yogurt sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce on the side. I will be coming back again for take out! (Order the baklava for dessert!)

  • Austin M.

Went here on a whim and will definitely be back! The gyro is massive and delicious, sauce is awesome, and the owner was really friendly. I might try the falafel next time, but know I can always fall back on a great gyro!

Recently I was browsing through Yelp for lunch suggestions and I found Adel's. WOW, I'm glad I did! They have the absolute best gyro I've ever eaten. The tzatziki sauce was cool and creamy with surprisingly delightful chunks of fresh cucumber. The spicy lamb was magnificent and came piled high on a warm, soft pita. I've never had a spicy gyro before but now I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy it any other way. This is my new favorite lunch spot. It's a true hidden gem and PERFECT to satisfy a gyro craving. The shawarma looked and smelled wonderful so I may be trying that on my next visit. This establishment is more akin to a diner than a traditional restaurant. You place your order at a walk-up counter. There is no hosted seating or wait staff. The decor and ambiance are what you would expect from a carry-out joint. Basically...may not be very impressive to bring a first date, but you come to Adel's for the food...not the scenery. If you come expecting a fabulous quick-service Greek meal you will NOT be disappointed. if you're expecting to be immersed in Greek culture you may want to look elsewhere...but you'll miss out on the best gyro you've ever had.

Food is great but the time from order to completion takes a lot for time. He does not have avery uhh good system to expedite food!

  • Sam D.

What a pleasant surprise! I had no idea there was such quality Greek cuisine in Carmel. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the parking lot that is in obvious need of repair. However I will not let that stop me from returning for more of the great hummus and another fabulous gyro.

  • Stephanie B.

Love, love, love this place. I have never had a bad experience. Gyros are always fresh, baklava is amazing. Greek salad even has fresh herbs and homemade dressing. Fresh made hummus as well. Can't say enough good about this place. Adel's is in an unassuming strip mall and very plain inside but definitely don't "judge a book by its cover" if so you will miss a great meal and a great business owner like Adel. You can taste the love. 5 stars. Support local.

    (5)
  • Ted W.

You aren't going here for the decor. But the food is fabulous. I had the big spicy gyro and a small hummus (the small is HUGE... more than enough for two pita bread they give you). They threw in an order of baklava. The gyro meat isn't like your typical gyro place with dried and chewy meat. Their gyro meat is nice and tender. Very good! They give you more than you can fit on the pita bread The folks work there are very friendly and nice to chat with. I can't wait to go back and try the shwarma!

Tried Adel's for the first time based on the strength of the reviews here after a bad experience with a place we had been going for years. We now have a new place to call our regular go to for greek food on the north side. Friendly people, generous portions and great tasting freshly made food !

  • Kristin F.

This place is AMAZING! First of all, Adel is really kind and welcoming AND he makes the best gyro I've ever had. It comes with enough meat to satisfy any appetite and is flavored perfectly. The tzatziki sauce is terrific and the pita is perfect (never mind the alliteration). I highly recommend the gyro and spanakopita, and I will be returning to Adel's soon!

    (5)
  • Stewart B.

The food is exceptional. The portions are enormous. The cost is fair. The people are kind. It isn't a formal setting where you'd go for an anniversary dinner, but the food is certainly worthy of that occasion.

  • Jan C.

The best Gyro we ever had! The owner is extremely nice. It's worth the drive. The place could use a little atmosphere but the food was wonderful. Great for takeout!

  • David H.

Let me say that when we first arrived at Adel's I was a little skeptical due to the overall aesthetics of the restaurant, but after I tasted the food, all my hesitations went away. I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but after my first bite I was sold. The spicy gyro was out of this world, and left my mouth watering for more. However, due to the humongous portion size, I could hardly eat the baklava piece they gave me. As I sit here writing this review, I could not be more pleased with the overall experience. I'll be returning very soon to enjoy the delicious gyros and baklava. Thanks for such a great dinner.

The owner is very friendly. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge. Best gyro around this area. Interior needs a renovation.

  • Victoria T.

Well, it's a bit of a hole in the wall. I'm okay with that. Some of the best food I've ever eaten has been served out of rinky dink shit holes. The general clutter, however, was a bit odd. There were chairs stacked ceiling high in one corner, random refrigeration units unplugged scattered around. We ordered from a fellow who had a vague resemblance to Abe Vigoda. Sexy Beast pointed this out as we sat waiting for our order. He was polite and friendly but he did get the order wrong. He corrected it without question and with a smile. Drinks are self served. I initially wanted tea. The tea, however, also contained tiny flies. I went with a diet soda instead. The hummus was served cold and way too oily. The salad was huge but made with mediocre ingredients. The gyro was also huge. It was pretty standard. I wasn't overly impressed and I wasn't repulsed. Overall, it was pretty mediocre with slow service and less than stellar atmosphere.

There is a foot of snow outside and I don't care. i'm going to Adel's to pick up dinner for my family. Adel couldn't be a nicer guy, always giving my kids toys or baklava. Food is always great and portions big enough for two. A side of hummus is enough for a Superbowl party. I don't know how he stays in business giving it all away. Nice. Simple. Clean. I wish he would bring back the great feta and olives he use to sell out of the fridges up front but that may have been shut down by the man.

This was our first visit. Friends from out of town wanted gyros so we tried Adel's. The servings were very generous. The food was all very fresh. The gyros, salad and hummus were all fantastic. Wish I had gotten the baklava now. I highly recommend this Greek restaurant! Our friends told us they enjoyed it very much and want to eat there again also.

You should be here for lunch with me today, it's so good. Shawarma, Gyro, Spanakopita are well above the local average. Expect much from the food but little from the decor, it's a dive but who doesn't love a dive?!

I visited from Noblesville based in large part on yelp reviews. It didn't disappoint. Nothing fancy, but food was excellent. Fresh ingredients and great sauce. High quality meat and HUGE portion. Wonderful friendly owner gives you a real sense of family. I finally found a new home top get my gyros.

  • Eva L.

Adel is super friendly and smiling at his work, always remembers me when I get carryout, and the shawerma is great - a generous and savory meal. I'm a repeat customer. (Ignore the decor for now but do not ignore the food)

  • Mary M.

The gyros at Adels are absolutely perfect! Adel gets his gyro meat from Chicago and it does not disappoint. He is extremely nice and helpful as well. My husband is not a huge gyro fan so he tried the spaghetti and meatballs, which is one of his favorite meals. It came with four huge lamb/beef meatballs and enough pasta for another meal. Definitely a must try restaurant!

  • Vetta C.

This was an incredible tasting Gyro. The taste of the meat, the sauce, the texture of the pita. Wow. So good. The owner is super nice. Also had the baklava. It was some of the best I have had as well. The decor leaves something to be desired. Its not dirty or anything like that, it just isn't that "nice". This Gyro is so good, even better than the ones in Chicago, that I think I am not going to eat Gyros in S. Cal anymore. Kind of like how I don't eat Mexican Food outside of S. Cal

I visited Adel's for a late lunch on Saturday and was left with mixed feelings. The place was as described on yelp; plain but clean. Adel was not there at the time or was occupied in the back, either way I did not see him. The lady who waited on me was pleasant. She prepared my meal quickly, but did not include any napkins or plastic silverware with my to-go order. I did not think to check for utensils until I got back to work, so was forced to do without. The food was a mixed bag. I had a spicy gyro. It tasted good, and was a large serving. The first problem was it contained so much grease that it dripped out and literally formed a pool in the corner of the Styrofoam container the meal was served in. My gyro was also made with a mixture of meat freshly carved from the cooker, and meat that she collected from a pan that was warming on the stove top, presumably since the last customer was served? there was no one else in the restaurant when I arrived so I'm not sure how long that might have been; some of it was quite dry and crisp. She then mixed it with a red sauce (spicy sauce) to moisten and flavor it before putting it on the pita. I will try Adel's again, hopefully on a day when Adel is there and hope for a better experience. I also plan to try the regular gyro next time. I enjoyed the flavor of the spicy gyro but wonder if the spicy sauce (or old meat) may have been partially responsible for the excessive grease.

Let's get serious about gyros, shall we? This place is fantastic! I was in Carmel with my dad and we were looking for a lunch spot. My one request? No chains- something locally owned. I whipped out my phone and checked the Yelp app and found Adel's Gyros. A greek gyro house with 5 stars? Count me in! I'm convinced that hole in the wall ethnic places have THE best food, and this place is no exception. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that deceive you. Once you taste the food you'll become an Adel's fan immediately. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you in styrofoam to-go boxes, even if you're dining in. I get the feeling that most people get carry-out from this place because the decorations are minimal and there aren't a lot of places to sit. They also have plastic silverware and styrofoam cups. That's one of the reasons for the 4 stars. I'd love to see them offer up a greener options, like plates and cups that can be washed and reused rather than something you're going to throw away after one use. We ordered from Adel himself who told us about his family while perused the menu. I had the chicken kebab and my dad went for the gyro. Do yourself a favor and get the gyro. A generous portion at a great price. $5.99 for a heaping portion of gyro meat over a warm pita with a salad? My pocketbook thanks you Adel! The chicken kebab wasn't the best I've ever had, but I'd come back again (and again...) for the gyro. Yum! Another reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was the wait time. You can't rush perfection (which the gyro was) but we were waiting quite a while (maybe 10 minutes?) for our lunch. At a place like this, the wait seemed a bit excessive seeing as the place wasn't crazy busy. The decor was sparse, and there was unplugged equipment (think freezers and serving buffets) just lining the walls. I didn't really care about this, but maybe put a bit more effort into the appearance of this place? All in all: deeeeelish gyros at a great price? Thanks Adel, I'll be back!!

Like other reviews have said, if you are coming for the decor you will not be impressed. On that note, if you are coming for the food then this is the place to be. An overflowing gyro was more than enough for lunch and provided some small leftovers to enjoy later. What stands out to me is the friendliness of the staff and the relationships they have seemed to build with their regular customers. Being in town for business, this place was quick and efficient with a great product to boot. If you happen to be in the area and love gyros, make this a definite stop.

I'm embarrassed at how often I have gotten carry out here. The first time I ordered from here I had to PULL OVER AND EAT because the food smelled so intoxicatingly awesome. The spicy gyros are OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious. Adel gives you a heaping serving of spicy gyro meat, carved right before your eyes. Can't decide between tzatziki and feta? He just might get you both. The spicy chicken shawarma is decent but not in the same league as the gyros. Also, the falafel is unlike any other restaurant's I've had (in a good way). The baklava and hummus are solid, too. All good choices here. In closing, let your friends and loved ones order what they want at Adel's but you, the savvy Yelper, order the spicy gyro and thank me later.

Great Gyro's and priced right! They are made to order, so be patient.

Stopped here to grab a gyro for dinner. Ordered carry out. Adel was very nice. I added a side order of green beans. He sauteed the green beans while I waited. The gyro was also carved and prepared on the spot. Both items were absolutely delicious and the gyro is huge. Next time I will order an extra pita and tzatziki. The prices are extremely reasonable.

This review is not about the food because I didn't get to eat here! It says open until 2200 (10:00pm). They are not open until 2200 on SATURDAYS. It is 2057 15 FEB and they are closed!!! I am from out of town and drove 15 mins to get here. And of course missed all the other establishments that close at 2100!!!! Ugh.

My girlfriend and I purchased the regular gyro. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Will come back.

This is the perfect hole-in-the-wall dive place. I love the food and Adel himself is very nice. Cannot recommend the gyro enough. He sears the meat after cutting it off the spit to give a nice crisp. His fries are the big crinkle cuts that he always cooks fresh. I have probably been there a dozen times and always leave happy.

Really impressed! The decor leads you to believe and the food brings it all together!!! Thanks chef

Only reason I don't give this place another star is the atmosphere. Definitely not a place you want to sit and eat, but I got mine to go. I got a gyro salad. The meat was extremely good (which is the most important part of a gyro place). The gentleman working was very polite. I would definitely to back and get take out.

Great place! My family and I love gyros and came across Adel's on yelp. He is the owner and primarily the only one working all the time. He is so sweet and always pleasant to customers. Definitely will be back there. Only downfall is that I wish he would upgrade the inside of his restaurant.

After getting numerous recommendations and seeing this 4.5 start rated place come up on my Yelp app every time I search for a place near my apartment, I finally made it in for a visit. It was about 8:30 on a Tuesday night and the open sign was lit up in the window, although all the chairs were already turned upside down and placed on the tables and nobody could be seen working inside. There wasn't a sign with opening and closing times on the door, so we checked it out and luckily the door was unlocked. My first impression was similar to a lot of the other reviews in that this is probably not the best place to choose if you are looking for some ambiance. There is definitely some room for improvement when it comes to tidying up the inside a bit, but there was at least some fun Greek music playing and it was much better than some of the reviews make it sound. Ordering is done at the counter, where we were greeted by who I assume was Adel, and also the nicest owner of a restaurant I might have ever met. He was all smiles and welcomed us in to his place. Either he is the world's best liar, or he genuinely was delighted to have us in and was excited to get to serve us what he had to offer, and my money is on the latter. The menu isn't extensive, but has all of the Greek favorites. I ended up with the gyro ($7) and a piece of baklava ($2). The gyro was enormous, and with a second pita would easily make 2 good sized gyros. I found it actually impossibly to pick up the pita and eat it without first just eating some of the meat by itself. It comes topped with onions and has lettuce, tomato slices, and tzatziki sauce on the side. The gyro meat was served hot, and was even less greasy than some that I have gotten from other places. The pita was soft and delicious, and it was put in an oven before serving so it was warm. While waiting on our food to get prepared, Adel was super friendly and asked about where I went to school and what I did for a living and talked about his kids and made actual great conversation, which isn't all that easy to come by while waiting on a to go order at most places. I didn't manage to dig into the baklava until the next morning because I was too full from the gyro, but it was still good after sitting in a refrigerator all night and made for an easier time convincing myself if was ok to eat dessert for breakfast than most sweets. All in all, I think this place delivers more than what you pay for. You're not going to get the décor of some of the nicer Greek places in town, but for the fantastic friendly service and enormous amount of good food for under $10, this place is hard to criticize in any way. I'll definitely be back.

My favorite place in Indy to get a gyro! Always fresh the meat isn't dry ever (I hate a gyro with old dry meat ) and huge portions! One is enough for two people! The tzaziki sauce is great in my opinion it is a little thicker but I love it and even get extra so I can dip my fries into it. This place never disappoints!

    (5)
  • Kamran K.

I traveled to Indy for work and stopped by here since it was close by and had positive Yelp reviews. It was so good that I ended up coming back 3 times during the week I was in town. Be warned that the gyros are HUGE! I made the mistake of ordering 2 and ended up barely finishing 1. The meat was extremely tasty and came with your standard gyro toppings. The sauce wasn't your typical tzaziki sauce and was a little thicker. But amazing nonetheless. The owner is also super nice and chats with all of the patrons that come in. Highly recommend this place!

I was in Israel in March and was introduced to the Chicken shawarma. I tried a number of places around the north side of Indianapolis, but was not satisfied until I found Adel's. I have been back a number of times. You are always treated as a welcomed guest. The dish is prepared right in front of you. The shawarma was better than what I had in Israel. As mentioned elsewhere, not much ambiance but great take out.

Was a little apprehensive at first since the location is in the corner of a strip plaza and I was late so I was the only one there. However the owner was very pleasant and made me feel real welcome right before I ordered. He prepared the food himself. I ordered the grape leaves and the Greek salad and it was extremely fresh and very tasty. Supposedly they make huge gyros here however since it was late didn't have any gyros left. I would definitely recommend this to anybody that's in the area.

This place looks like a dump, and we almost passed it, but the proprietor was very warm and welcoming. We got the chicken curry, (greasy and delightful) and the gyro (high quality meat and lots of it) and hummus with pita (pita tasted like it was just made and the hummus was very creamy). We definitely got our money's worth of food because we left stuffed. The tzatziki sauce was such a good addition to both meals! If we weren't just passing through we would most definitely make this a regular place!

  • Gwen A.

The gyros are great, and I got a free piece of baklava! The baklava was some of the best I've tasted- and I've been to Tarpon Springs, FL for the best!!

4 1/2 stars on Yelp, 95% on Urbanspoon, and I couldn't wait to try this place. I love a spicy gyro. Haven't yet found one to compare to the one I used to get at the Parthenon in Broad Ripple. Ahh, memories! Yet I digress. Of course this place is divey, which doesn't ever bother me. However, atmosphere-wise, what I did think was kind of odd was the overall clutter. It reminded me of being at someone's Grandma's house where she just leaves random stuff lying around FOREVER and never picks it up. I almost wonder if someone is living here in this restaurant on the weekends or something. I think a good "straightening up" would do this place wonders. Anyway, we had the spicy gyros and fries. Fries were hot and crinkle cut. Nothing to complain about there. Gyros were not spicy at all. The meat was good, but nothing special, I thought. The gyro was dressed with plenty of onion, and one tiny half-dollar size tomato slice. Tzatziki and lettuce was on the side. The pita was soft and fluffy, which I did appreciate. It was a decent meal, but I've definitely had much better.

Almost didn't stop because of the appearance. Glad I did...the gyro salad is one of the best salads I've ever had!! Staff is pleasant and friendly.

  • A. P.

Definitely get the gyro! Very tasty and tender, and he gives you twice the meat you'd normally get at other restaurants for the same price ($7). My daughter ordered the pork shawarma and it was significantly smaller. The seemingly empty display case actually has their dessert...slices of their pistachio baklava roll. I've had baklava that was too sweet, but this one wasn't, it was just right. It didn't have the traditional phyllo dough but whatever it was wrapped in was very light and crispy. We'll definitely go back. :-)

  • Gary P.

The ambience is not what will draw to you this place but the value and quality are excellent. The gyros are huge and yummy! The fries are nothing special and were under seasoned. The owner served us and was very friendly. This is definitely a place we will come back to.

  • Tyler P.

Probably best gyro I've ever had (and huge)!!

    (5)
  • Coby H.

Don't come for the decor, come for the affordably priced and very tasty gyros. Skip the fries, since you get more than enough food with a gyro order: gyro meat piled high on a pita, with a small "salad" (no dressing) and tzatziki. My coworkers and I are very happy to have discovered this gem and will definitely be back.

    (5)
  • Erica J.

This place is a hidden gem! I come here often during my lunch break for their amazing gyros!

    (5)
  • Ian C.

Let's just say that the gyros here are so good that I recently drove through a blizzard in whiteout conditions to pick one up. Apparently I was not the only person to do so that day. If your restaurant is good enough to compel customers to travel through hazardous weather to get to it, you've got something special going on. The spicy gyro isn't actually spicy, by the way. It's really more well-seasoned than anything. The tzaziki sauce is astounding, and leagues better than anything else I've ever had. Don't even bother getting the fries and drink, because they pile the gyros with so much meat you won't need any more food. And it's only seven bucks!

This place made me sign up for yelp. Fabulous food, gracious owner. Heard about this place from my sister. Bare bones dining room, but don't let that fool you. Had the best take out gyros We have ever received, and they even packaged deconstructed for us to eat later. Incredible value.

Waited 30 mins for my food. 8 people orded behind me and all 8 were sereved before me. I will never go to this place again. For the best gyro's in Indy go to Phillip 66 on North Michigan Road and 106th Street.

If you like gyros and great customer service, you'll love this place. The guy that worked here today (assuming he was the owner) was so pleasant that he put me in a great mood. I didn't have a menu, so I ordered the beef schwarma. As I pulled up, I saw the sign advertising gyros, schwarma, falafel, and I got so excited thinknig about a falafel next time. When you walk in, the place is extremely bare bones. No artwork, machinery (sort of- like an ice cream machine type of machinery). The employee/owner showed me my meal (oh, it looked delicious!). I told him it looked great. He walked over to the side and threw a piece of baklava into the mix, too. I "Yay"-ed with excitement (not a huge fan of sweets, but I love baklava). I asked how long he had been there, about "two weeks and a month," I believe the reply was. I grabbed few menus and told him that I would take once- I ordered the schwarma since I knew they'd have it, and I'd hand a few menus out at work. He handed me a few with a dollar off coupon included. On the very short drive back to work, I was really excited to dig into my meal. Once I did, it was damn delicious. I have a new favorite lunch spot. This is an amazing find. The gyro was so good lots of flavor and spices. The Owner was very nice and accommodating. We order one regular gyro with fries and told him we were just going to split it. He gave us an extra piece of pita bread without us even asking. It was very nice and thoughtful. Will definitely be going back many times! Stop by and try it. You won't be disappointed :)

This place is a great addition in an area full of chain restaurants. It is simple, cheap, and delicious. I went and had a spicy gyro greek salad, my friend had the gyro and falafel. He mentioned the falafel was not too dry and flavorful. My salad was generous in portion, the meat was moist and flavorful with the right amount of spice. I think word is catching on since they are getting busier during the lunch hours.

came during lunch hour on a week day, and there was a couple people there. service a on the slower side but nothing irritating. simple menu at good prices, the guy behind the counter is very friendly, food takes a little longer than you might expect with the rotating meat right in plain sight, but understandable with the two person staff and the number of orders, plenty of room to sit down and wait, food is well worth the wait, the serving of meat on he pita is monstrous, there is so much, i had to get a fork and eat most of the gyro before i could even get to the point of picking up the pita to eat, i will saw the deduction of a star was due to the tzatziki sauce, it was not very good, there was no flavor and no seasoning, but the rest made up for it, since it is so close to my work that i will definently be back again.

  • Rhonda G.

Inconsistent. The first time our office did carryout from here it was fantastic. There was a longer wait than expected, but all is forgiven for a good meal and a friendly owner. The chicken curry was enjoyed by my co-worker, and I was very happy with the falafel. We were both anxious to get back for more. Unfortunately, today's visit did not live up to its first impression. The wait was much longer than stated, but he was apologetic and even offered some free baklava (which apparently was quite good). However, the food just wasn't as good. The falafel in particular was undercooked, the middle still damp, for lack of a better word. It was a little off-putting. I won't say this is a bad place, and I won't even say I won't ever try it again. With the first visit being such a success, I know it can be really, really good. Maybe it was a bad day, maybe a different cook. Who knows. For now, I will take a break and give it some time, and perhaps give it another try in a month or two. They certainly have the advantage of being the only restaurant of this kind near my office.

Wonderful locally owned place. We went on a Saturday night and Adel was the only one working. We went with the gyros. After we placed our order,Adel gave us some samples and off he went preparing our gyros. When the order is finished, he opens every container to make sure you are happy and boy were we!!! I couldn't believe all the meat he piled on!! He also threw in some baklava!! As we left he stated "If there is something not good, you come back and blame me." That really impressed me. Alot of restaurants could learn a few things about customer service from this guy!!

This place is so awesome and delicious. It's a little hole in the wall place and it doesn't look nice inside. However, the gyros are stellar and they're cheap and they're quick. Perfect place to pick up carryout lunch or dinner. The people make them fresh and the portions are huge.

Indianapolis needs more locally owned places like this. The staff is really friendly and the food is good. Adel's is a take-out/order at the counter & sit down place. I have had the gyros and they are very good. The spicy lamb is my favorite. The cucumber and tomato were very fresh and the sauce is awesome. It was also a nice touch that the owner showed me my order before he closed the container. He is very proud of what he is serving. They also have some Mediterranean grocery items and spices for purchase. If you want a quick, fresh bite, this is a great place. If you are looking for more of a sit-down, full service Greek place, drive a couple miles south and eat at Hella's Cafe (82nd & Westfield Boulevard) I am really happy to have Adel's in the neighborhood. Welcome!

Go for the gyro and the pleasant owner, but not the ambiance. :) That being said, you have to come and get one of the best gyros around. The spicy gyro is huge and absolutely delicious!! Falafels were somewhat standard, but not bad. When I want a gyro, I automatically think of Adel's.

This is a welcome addition to the Carmel/Clay area. I have been looking for a quick/easily accessible Greek Restaurant for takeout, and this is exactly what Adel's caters to. Simple, Cheap, and Great Tasting. The cook/cashier was very helpful and friendly. One advice, the dining area has plenty of room for more tables. I unfortunately watched 4 people leave because there was no seating left.

We had no idea what to expect when my office mates and I decided to give this new gyro joint a shot. We were blown away by the experience. Beneath the unpretentious decor--bare walls and haphazard furnishings--lies a gem just waiting to be discovered. If you can see beyond this simple space, all that's left is great food, healthy portions and service with a contagious smile.
