Terrible service. Small portions. Expensive. We really wanted to line this place as it is close by. But after several attempts I had to leave a review. We hope management sees it and fixes the issues. Or someone else who care and knows hiw tobtrest customers takes over. Last trip food was cold. And even though they were not closing for 25 minutes the were closing up. Washing the floors and pushing us to leave. Never seen anything like it. Sad.

Went two times thinking the first time may have been a bad day.... Wrong!! Food was cold, chicken breast filet was the horrid ( didn't even look like chicken, portions very small, rude server. It is a total shame!! Very cute place in a great location, but terrible food both times I went. Will never go back again!!

The burrito California is my excellente. I also enjoy the margaritas. They have cheap pitchers on Monday nights I think. Our food is always out promptly. The beans are a little weird sometimes would be my only complaint. We always have the same waiter and he is very nice. Good place much butter than the brewery that was there before it.

Really wanted to like this place I'm close and it my type of food. Gave them 3! Chances and I'm done. Last time ordered a beef burrito and when I got home the meat was raw and very cold to the touch. When I called to complain I was told that how thier meat is cooked!! WTF... Not sure how they are still in business

I got done with my meal a little bit a go. It was delicious.I got a custom meal, it was a beef burrito with a delectable tomato sauce on it. It also came with a wonderful chicken taco.It of course had lettuce tomato feta cheese, it also came with guacamole and salsa. On the side there was beans and rice the waiter even gave me a idea to mix the rice and beans and it was unexplainabley good. My dad got a steak taco. It had 1 big slice of steak, 3 tortillas, beans, and rice.He said his meal was delectable as well. We also had a cheesecake burrito for desert. It is sorta like a deep fried shell with cheesecake in it. Since it is so big they cut it in half and there is chocolate all over it.Agave has never failed me.The people who say its bad must have bad taste buds. GO TO AGAVE!!

Not too bad of quality of food. Enjoyed the Thursday carne dinner special, with a small margarita . Husband had steak dinner as well, nicely seasoned and spicy. Price seems a little bit inflated for the amount of food. All in all, pretty good, will be back. :)

We just moved here and we loved the atmosphere! Me and my boyfriend went on a Sunday and you get a huge margarita for five dollars and the food was so great. We loved it so much that we came back a few days later! It's totally our new place in town!!

Have eaten here several times and it is consistently good. My husband usually orders the Carne Asada and I usually order the enchiladas. Their salsa is so tasty! Service is usually quick and friendly. By far, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Hobart!

Great food and margarita drink specials. Amazing and friendly staff except for one cocky, arrogant server. As long as you aren't unlucky enough to get him, this place is fabulous and delicious. Love supporting the local, small businesses in our area and avoiding the chain restaurants. Better food and great service. Highly recommend.

Over priced for what you get. Plenty of other places that give you more bang for your buck in the area.

This restaurant has given up and it shows in the service and the food. Sure everyone is friendly and all but other than that they were largely inattentive to my needs. Chips and salsa came quickly...but no water. I actually feel this place has contempt for its patrons. Here's why: we wanted to make sure that the Marguarita's were made with fresh juice, not powder, and the waitress seemed annoyed that we were so picky. When the $5 and the $7.50 Maguarita's came, they tasted sweeter than syrup and had NO alcohol in them at all. Nothing. Have you ever had Enchilada's Suizas? They come with tomatillo (green) salsa and dairy (cheese, crema). It is a very specific recipe. This is what I ordered. The waiter served me a plate of enchiladas with no cheese and a red sauce on top. He even said "Your enchiladas suizas" as he put the plate in front of me. I totally know the difference between Suizas and regular enchiladas, pendejo. Yes, the stupid gringo DID know the difference. Carne asada tacos featured dry leftovers from much earlier in the day. Rice and beans...taco bells is just as good if not better. As a matter of fact dinner at taco bell would have been much cheaper and enjoyed more. Crappy food, crappy drinks, and crappy service. Congratulations! You are the worst restaurant so far in 2013. I WILL NEVER RETURN. It is too bad, cause the first time I went, I enjoyed it.

I wanted to like this place but it just wasn't that great. I had the burrito special and it was cold and no meat at all I mean none. There are better places then this. My wife had carne asada and again no meat.

I have given this restuarant 4 tries now, hoping it would improve.(NOT THE CASE. ) Ate there again last night after not being there for a year. The margaritas had to have been watered down! I had 3 premium margaritas and didnt even feel the slightest buz!! And it was supposed to be Cabo Wabo? I dont think so!! Too many good places in the area to go too instead. SAN PEDROS-Hobart, El Saltos, La Caretta!!

It's not bad! It's not wonderful, but not horrible. That's not the best of ratings, I know. First time I had their food it was take-out so I can't comment on the quality/heat of the food, but it was good. Second time that I went, I was shown the drinks specials for the day and had to change my order because they didn't have the ingredients. Later when I ordered horchata I noticed the waitress sniffing it before serving (when I asked, it was to "make sure it's still good"). That was concerning. Food wasn't bad. I'll go back.

I've been to Agave twice since it's opened. My first trip I was impressed with the menu. It was a very extensive menu and offered a lot of different options. There were 8 in our party. We ordered a pitcher of lime margaritas, and the owner assured us they were the best margaritas we would ever have. They were AWFUL. I soon saw that the margaritas are a slushy of ice which is dispensed from a machine, and then flavored syrup is stirred in the slushy to make your flavor of margarita. THIS IS NOT A MARGARITA. Our food took extremely long to arrive. I ordered the shrimp in garlic. I got the shrimp and I am 99% sure the shrimp was already cooked, and then recooked, and it was COATED in minced jar garlic. The beans had obviously been on the warmer for hours as was the rice. It was awful. Others in our party ordered burritos and were given burritos, but were not filled with what they ordered. My second trip here was on a nightly walk where my boyfriend and we decided spur of the moment to drop in and have a beer and a margarita. I thought I'd give it another try. It was one of the top 5 worst decisions of my life. Food and drinks were awful, service was non existent. It's a nice concept for Main street, but they need a overhaul on food. FRESH food would be nice, not pre-cooked food sitting under a heat lamp all day. And shame on you Agave for trying to pass off that crappy slushy syrup mix as a margarita.

wow I am a little surprised by the bad reviews. I took my kids in here (which is a lot to inflect on a restaurant) I apologized for my 2 yr old, but they truly didn't even seem upset. The food was great and the place was clean. The staff was friendly and professional. Im not in Hobart as much these days but I will defiantly be back.

This place was tasty. Very clean, friendly waiters, one frozen margarita was good! ;) My rice seemed a little hard, but edible. Dinner under $30 thats pretty yummy Im game for. I will be returning. NWIndiana lacks great restaurants so when my husband and I find one we enjoy we make sure to keep it in business when possible. Definitely heading back there!

I am not a fan, the waiter spoke no English and I was forced into using non verbal gestures and pointing on the menu to order. My burrito was nasty; and filled with semi cooked onions and cold hard potatoes. The margarita I ordered tasted like drinking straight well tequila and I could barley stomach the taste. Needless to say I will not be returning.

I just finished my dinner and I am writing this review as my wife and kids finish tier meal. I ordered the steak burrito banado and it was very good. My wife had a combination with a steak taco and chicken burrito, and she said that they were also very good. Now, to all the food critics out there...this is your regular Mexican Restraunt...Rick Balis is not in the kitchen cooking life changing Mexican food and the burritos aren't as big as your head! The food is good, the place is clean, and are server was excellent. We didn't want for anything, and as soon as my drink was empty the waiter was asking if I wanted more. We will definitely come back again. Now I have to go home and lay on the couch....I'm stuffed!!

Agave Mexican Restaurant will probably never win James Beard awards for its fine cuisine, so if you're a yuppie, foodie, or just plain hard to please, get back to standing in line at Frontera Grill. For those of us who like basic Mexican food that tastes good, is served quick and hot, and is priced for those of us in the 99% percentile of the population, Agave is worthwhile. The Sibling and I ventured in on a recent Tuesday evening. There were a few big groups scattered around in the cavernous interior. A few TV's above the long bar were showing a baseball game, and a quiet crowd was eating and drinking at the bar. Service was a little iffy at first. There seemed to be only waiter handling everything. About 10 minutes after we arrived, a waitress showed up to help him out, and that smoothed out the service. The Sibling went with her standard fish tacos, which were 3 tacos served with rice and beans. I was looking for vegetarian options, which are limited at Agave. Well, no surprise there - I'm a native of NW Indiana, and can tell you that while vegetarians exist in this corner of the Hoosier State, they are WAY outnumbered by carnivores. I ended up with quesadilla verde, cheese quesadillas in green/verde sauce, served with rice and beans. We both chowed down on our meals. Granted, we were very hungry, but hey, we're still girls, and we don't eat the usual American-sized portions. What we had satisfied us, and it tasted real good. Selections are standard Mexican meals. Burritos, fajitas, carne asada and bistec mexicana, sopes, enchiladas, etc. You won't find culinary adventure here. Expect the expected. The Sibling had a glass of sangria, which she liked very much. I didn't taste it, or have alcohol, since I was driving back to the Big City after dinner. Anyone driving the Dan Ryan at night needs to keep a clear head. Agave does seem to have a full bar, so if I'm stuck in NW Indiana overnight, I'd try a margarita next time. This is a very casual restaurant. Blue jeans abound. No dress code. Just, no shirt, no shoes, no service. I'll definitely come back. It's great to see that Hobart is getting some good restaurants. Oh sure, you could always find fast food, national chains, and the kinds of places your Grandad likes, but finding something that actually tasted pretty good was tough. Agave is a solid addition to a small, but burgeoning, restaurant scene.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
