Hands down best soft serve ice cream of all time! My grandparents have lived 2 blocks away my entire life and Dairy Belle has always been one of our little summertime indulgences. The soft serve is so thick and creamy and delicious-top it off with a little dip in chocolate and you have your own little piece of ice cream heaven!

Omfg this restaurant shouldn't get any reviews under 5 stars. This is the best soft serve ice cream I've ever had. I stopped getting soft serve anywhere else because after having Dairy Belle's, all the rest tastes like frozen water. Which is ice. I don't know what Dairy Belle puts in their ice cream (babies?), but it is the creamiest, tastiest of all time. I have tried many things on their menu, but my favorite is a twist cone dipped in peanut butter. Their flurries are wonderful, too. If you live in NW Indiana, you should plan on never eating a DQ blizzard again.

Best ice cream in the area. The shakes and malts are excellet. This place is addictive.

I've been going to Dairy Belle for years; obviously, I'm a fan. There's no doubt that this is the best soft-serve ice cream in the Chicagoland area. I do miss the indoor seating and the hamburgers they used to make there. I'm not excited about the drive-thru they had installed some years back and I never was thrilled about them closing for the season. They open on April 1st 2011 and I can't wait. The place will probably be slightly crowded, so you might have to wait 5-10 minutes.

Before I discovered Scooters after moving to the city (Chicago,) there was (and still is) Dairy Belle. As stated below, this is frozen cream, so the texture is sooooooo smooth. The prices are very reasonable. Heck, even the memories of how good the iced cream is is driving me nuts (because they are closed this time of year and I want some!) If it says anything, every time I know that I'm going to be going past exit 1, I plan my eating for the day so that I can make a stop. It is definitely a total indulgence!

Dairy Belle has gotten all fancy of late. They are still good, mind you. And there is still always a line to the curb when you go... but the menu is HUGE nowadays. I grew up around the corner, and back in the day, you could get Chocolate, vanilla or twist, in 3 sizes, with a few dip options. They had slushes, hot dogs (through the side door) and a couple of other options. No more. Now, with a change in ownership a few years back, there is a dizzying array of awesome that will make you almost not be able to choose by the time you reach the window... heck, there is even a drie through now. I don't even think they've been taken out by a rogue driver in a long time.. and that, that is WONDERFUL. Thank god for no one hitting the building with a car in a long time. It used to be a semi-annual thing, and then we had no ice cream. And that sucked.

This is by far the best ice cream in the region. Not the fake crap you get from the big chains, the real deal. The only thing that I don't LOVE about it is that they're getting a bit pricey. Usually, when my daughter and I go we both get a small twist cone with the crunch dip and it's $6 something. I mean almost $7 for two small cones? Last time I went my daughter had three friends with her and it was close to $20, I didn't get anything and all but one of the kids got small a cone and the last one got some kind of slushie. $20?! Eeek! I guess you get what you pay for though. It's real ice cream and it's delicious. The higher price just means we just don't go as much. It's a special treat instead of a regular stop. Also, have cash unless you plan on ordering more than $10 worth (which honestly isn't that hard).

Dairy Belle used to be one of my favorite places to go with the kids for a summer treat. This year though, not so much, I've visited a few times and the staff is rude, they even give you an eye roll when you just ask for napkins. On my visit today, I got an original parfait and the pineapple in the bottom was spoiled, I was glad it was at the bottom so it didn't completely ruin the rest of the dessert. My hubby got a butter scotch sundae, and was highly disappointed the butterscotch was extremely runny and not very good tasting, and if you want whip cream or nuts....yeah that's an extra charge, which they don't even ask you if you want it when you order. I was very disappointed by this visit as I was about the last few, I think I will drive the extra 5 minutes to Dairy Queen from now on.

Grew up playing football across the street from this place and I have never had ice cream as good as I have here....Real Ice Cream. Many different treats, The hot fudge shake with chocolate ice cream is my favorite. Open seasonally and I wish it were open all year...

I love getting a good shake in the summertime and early fall and Dairy Belle is one of those places I go to. Unfortunately for me I go only a couple times a year, but when I do I'm rewarded with an excellent shake....sure they are a tad pricey but the ice milk they use is very good.... Have never tried any of their other cones or treats but might have to sometime. So for those in the Chicago Suburbs (South, Southwest) and NW Indiana who are looking for a break from the Oberweises and the Culvers out there, check this place out...and hurry as they will be closing soon for the season....

If I could eat here everyday, I'd have to be pushed around on a dolly. This is real soft serve ice cream here with, like, 20% butterfat. If you're looking for something that's low in calories, Dairy Belle is not an option. But it's the butterfat that makes it taste so good! This is serious soft-serve ice cream, not the crap that you find at any of those frozen custard stands or the stuff that tastes like buttholes at frozen yogurt places. This is the smooth, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth with a slight coating that sticks to your tongue ice cream that is probably memorable of years gone by. DB makes excellent shakes and malts--I like the chocolate-black raspberry--as well as sundaes with over 20 toppings available. It is a seasonal stand, so the sad thing is that the sweet taste of real ice cream is fleeting and must be taken advantage of before the summer ends!

Ah.. 5 stars for nostalgic memories of twinkle top ice cream, the chocolate/vanilla twist, the chocolate dip, banana splits. I usually went there after pigging out on cheese fries at Madveks.

Time warp! Wrong neighborhood (Calumet Avenue isn't the place you want kids running around by) - right ice cream (except perhaps the blue dip). I really wanted one of their "Monster" kids' cones since it looked pretty hilarious and delicious. But instead, I chose a standard vanilla with chocolate dip. Can't go wrong - it's SO much better than Dairy Queen. You can, however, go wrong with their "Blue" dip. It's neon blue and plenty of children were rockin' it. Until I asked, I had no idea that it was a Blue Raspberry flavor which made it even more revolting. To each their own!

This has got to be one of the greatest ice cream stands on the planet. Outstanding cones and the ice cream sandwiches are unbelievable. Also the service is fantastic. Very nice employees.

No frills, old school drive up/walk up ice cream shop. I am a creature of habit, so I typically only have a vanilla dipped cone. The only critique is the chocolate is a bit thin, so it can get messy.

The ice cream wasn't anything special. We had ordered a banana split and the pineapple included tasted rotten. Gross. The yogurt cone tasted spoiled. I'd rather go to baskin robins and maybe pay more and receive better customer service than I did here. There's a sign there that says that they're not responsible for giving the wrong order which I think is funny because the woman at the window almost got my order wrong when I only ordered simple things. A nice greeting and smile wouldn't hurt either.

Best ice cream in the region. Not another like it for a long distance. I have tried about everything on the menu, and it is all delicious. I literally can't wait for it to re-open each year and am there when it does. There is no longer a nice bench seating area, but there are some seats to hang out. All the ice cream is homemade and tastes perfect. The strawberry milkshake has real strawberries in it and the hot dogs are good, too! Definitely stop by and enjoy what I consider the best ice cream around. I always opt for the delicious cones dipped in chocolate.

Cheap Low quality ice cream. And they gave me two cherries when I did not ask for it. They even up charged me. Then this girl named Natalie from Tinley Park Illinois who is associated with the owner sent me a really rude message that I can't read prices. I was charged an extra $1 x2 for two extra cherries that I did not want. I'm sure I can do the math. 1+1=$2 not $0 Natalie. Im sure im just mistaken...You can read her comment as she left it as a Complement on my profile :) Great PPL to do business with ..NOT. You people are hood if you really decide to assault me with messages for my comments to hinder my voice. This app is created for the PEOPLE to be heard.

Great ice cream, tons of choices, all at very good prices!!! We did not get the banana split but saw one. It was HUGE! We could not believe how big it was!

Yes! Every summer I HAVE to go here as much as I can. I don't go to Hammond much but make excuses to take Calumet Ave so I can get a cone!! I always get a chocolate cone dipped in chocolate!! There was a rare occasion one say and I got my cone dipped in Krunch Kote or whatever it's called. Before you eat that get a small sample. It's popular but I didn't like it. The prices seem to be similar to other popular chains but seriously, this places ice cream tastes way way better!!!

I absolutely love dairy belle! They have some of the best ice cream in town, plus the portions are pretty large. A small at dairy belle is like a medium anywhere else. I like the small business vibe they have going, although it can get pretty crowded at times. But if the drive thru line is too long you can always stand outside and order. They're open seasonally so waiting for them to open can be difficult but it's worth the wait!

I love love love this place! It's my once a week ice cream fill...but sometimes more because I get hooked. I absolutely love their twist in a cup with hard chocolate on top its AMAZING! I could live off it! I wait for it to open every year and when it closes for the season I'm so devastated. I recommend this place everytime the word ice cream comes up! Nomnomnom(:

I ordered a small chocolate malt which is $4.50 even. I had exactly six single dollar bills on me and whatever change is in my car. I always count my cash before I buy anything..I guess I'm a little "OCD" for that, but it's something I do, so ALWAYS know how much money I have before I buy anything. I gave the lady four singles and five dimes, which leaves me with two singles. Right? Apparently not. She opens the window and says I only gave her $3.50 which is impossible because I still had my two singles left and I counted the money again before I handed it to her. If I had given her $3.50 I would have three singles left. I thought it was weird because like I said, I knew exactly how much money I had on me, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe a dollar could've fallen between my seat and center console while I was ordering or something, but I knew it was VERY highly unlikely. Got my malt and asked her one more time if she's sure I only gave her $3, maybe two were stuck together or she might've dropped a dollar? She said "no, have a nice night." Still skeptic, I drove off, pulled over into Walgreens down the block and searched my car for that dollar...NOPE! Nowhere to be found! I KNEW I gave her the correct amount the first time. Pathetic. I hope scamming me out of a measly dollar was worth it because I'm 28 years old and I've been going here ever since I was old enough to count money. The ice cream is amazing, but now you will never see another PENNY from me ever again. Seeing the post two down from mine posted only two weeks ago about them being dishonest doesn't help their case either. Just because the employee rings up something as $4.50 doesn't mean they are actually collecting $4.50. Makes you wonder how many times they lie to their customers and pocket the extra dollars. Well you picked the wrong OCD person to scam this time! Hire new people and pay attention to what goes on in your business, because I certainly hope it's not the actual owners pulling this crap. Lost lifelong customer.
