Do not order the roast beef Manhattan, white bread, mashed potatoes, gravy and roast beef. The girls that work there look pretty good though.

So you say you like comfort food well then...I recommend the breaded tenderloin sandwich (it's huge!) and the homemade pies... mmm! If you're in Greensburg or just driving past on I-74 to or from Cincinnati, it's worth stopping by! This place is very comfortable, lot's of locals eat here on a regular basis. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. They assume everyone wants pie and for a good reason it's great! It is located on the square so you have a perfect view of the famous tree in the courthouse tower.

We were on a ride with our motorcycle buddies when in Greensburg it was lunchtime. Greensburg is where the courthouse has a tree growing out of the top. We parked our cycles across the street. (Parking is available on the square for no cost. ) All six of us at the suggestion of one of our friends who had been there many times ordered tenderloin sandwiches. Two were grilled and everyone else had breaded. The grilled came tender and pounded perfectly thin and deemed delicious. The breaded tenderloins were huge, perfectly breaded. Each of us tackled it in our way. If a Hoosier can't handle a breaded tenderloin, then go home! One ordered sweet potato waffle fries and shared. They came with a little container of cinnamon whipped butter which was tasty. Cooked crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, they also were perfect. The place was packed with even the counter full. We chose a large table in the window that hadn't been cleared and expected a long wait--not so! It was promptly cleared and our waitress was deft at not only taking our drink orders but keeping them filled! My unsweetened iced tea tasted freshly brewed and was cold on such a hot day. Even the diners seemed friendly and nice. I have it on good authority they post photos of locals' athletic grandchildren from college, too, so they are proud of their town. A great diner that I'm told has fabulous homemade pies and cake but we were all too full this trip. We'll pace ourselves next time and try some. Definitely would stop in again. They definitely can handle crowds with delicious ease.

I am very disappointed in Stories..... When I was a kid this was my grand parents would bring me when we visited and it was great food in those days and it stayed that way for years. just in the last 5 to 10 years I believe it is under new owners or managers and it has not been the same. the food is poor quality and it just seemed dirty at best. Stories was always famous for their pies and this was the reason for going. The pies now seem frozen or store bought. The food portions were more fare in the past, now they seem skimpy and lacking in flavor. I guess nothing stays the same for ever but this was a gem now I will not go back know until they bring back what they were really good at before. Sorry Stories traditions should not be broken....

Back in the day, I would head to Storie's after school. My favorite was the Roast Beef sandwich with french fries. After going to college and getting my job, moving away from Greensburg, I had this idealistic view in my head of Stories. I would bring it up in conversations of where I grew up. It got to the point where I wondered if my memories were becoming better than reality. On a not too distant trip back to the burg, my family went to Stories. I ordered Roast Beef sandwich with fries. It was still exactly how I remembered. It's nothing that will knock your socks off, but it has a home town feeling to it. If it is your first visit to Storie's, I would not order what I did. Go for the tenderloin and be ready to take some home... or to roll out the door. Pies are good too!

I live in the far western suburbs of Philadelphia PA. My family own a farm in Morris IN. Whenever I am out there I always try and stop at Stories. The Pork Tenderloin Sandwich is legendary. It's a just like stepping into a scene from the 1950's the way the restaurant is set up. A long counter down one side and rows of tables and booths down the middle and the other side. It is like stepping into a time-machine into small town America.

Stories is a Greensburg institution. It sits on the courthouse square with a nice view of the tree on top of the courthouse tower and has a bevy of typical diner food. You will find a lot of town elders eating dinner at 3 or 4pm, or lunch at 10am (old people time), but will almost always find it crowded at any time. Parking is in an alley in the back or in the lined spaces in front of the courthouse. They make real ice cream shakes (I recommend chocolate) and my friend's parents are big on the ham salad. If you are from out of state, I would recommend getting the giant pork tenderloin sandwich -- a staple of the midwest -- as it's one of the menu items Stories is famous for. Also, in the menu is a little history of the tree on the courthouse tower... yes, it has a history. The people who work there are pretty nice. I remember, when I was a kid, they'd make me a special omelette: bacon, jelly and cheese. Today, I can't believe I ever used to eat such a thing, but they were very accommodating to a weird little kid. These are the perks of Small Town America. I almost forgot... they have a huge selection of homemade pies. Many of them are meringue (lemon, coconut, etc), but they also have fruit pies and a pie that I've only ever seen in Indiana: Sugar Cream. I'm not a pie guy, but I know lots of people who will go there just for a slice.
