Gotta love Ponderosa salad bar! Always good! If only it was appropriate to eat a whole plate of their peanut butter fudge I would. Great for family get together also with their banquet room!

We just got done with lunch the waitress we had was not very friendly she may be said three words to us she was great at keeping our drinks full and cleaning the plates off the table but when it came to talking or asking her questions she wouldn't answer any the food was ok but the food had been sitting out way too long it was very soggy the wings wings we're not good at all the beef and noodles were good it could use more seasoning overall it was just OK.....

It is hit or miss here. Some days the buffet had plenty of delicious and fresh food while others it seems like the food is old and the selection is limited. They also have a really hard time cooking a steak to medium. I had to send my steak back on my last visit 3 times and it still wasn't right. Finally I just took it overcooked as I was tired of waiting. Avoid the steak and just get the buffet and most of the time its pretty much what you would expect.

Didn't know Ponderosa was still around, but there on Highway 70 just outside Greenfield, IN, was the sign and we had to check it out. It looked pretty much as we remembered the chain. There are bigger buffets today with many more choices, but this is still a good deal for the money. For $9.99 we had a meat choice (grilled chicken) and a baked potato along with the salad bar. Since we tend to make healthy choices at buffets, we found salads, vegetables and desserts that were worth eating, If you want to stuff on beef noodles, chicken wings, mac and cheese and banana pudding, you can do that, and then you can write a negative review about crap food. (Astonishing to me how many people think chicken wings with 20% fat in them, more than any other part of the chicken, are good for you.) However, buffets bring out the best and worst in us and for those who know how to make healthy choices, Ponderosa is still a mecca for good food.

Ponderosa, how I have missed you. I dont' care if people refer to you as "Ponde-GROSS-A", I will always hold a special place for you in my heart. A co-worker and I checked out Ponderosa for lunch today. I have been craving their chicken wings for a while now, and I decided to give into that craving today. AMBIENCE- ok, who would have guessed a Ponderosa would be packed on a Thursday lunch? This place probably accomodated about 100-150 people or so, and there didn't seem to be that many open tables when we went. WOW. Outside of that, pretty clean, nothing flashy by any means. It's pretty much what you'd imagine any American buffet to look like. SERVICE- Our server (Sally) was prompt with our drinks as well as clearing out our dishes. Not very engaging, I guess there isn't too much of a reason when it is a buffet. Plus for as busy as it was, I don't really blame her. MENU- so to add a buffet to any entree, it's about $2. What I love about Ponderosa (that grosses many others out) is that you can cut their steaks with a fork, plus they drench them in butter. Not the highest quality steak by any means, to further illustrate this, Thursday happened to be all you can steak day for $12.99. You could also get all you can eat shrimp for $12.99, or both all you can eat steak and shrimp for $12.99. Yeah, it's like that. FOOD- So Ponderosa doesn't have near the amount of selection as bigger buffets such as your Old Country Buffet, Ryan's, or Golden Corral. They basically have a salad portion, hot entrees, a "country" section, and dessert. This didn't matter to me, as all I was really interested in was their chicken wings. Seriously, if they just had chicken wings and rice, I would think the buffet was solid. Their other food as you might imagine is just ok. They had meat loaf, salisbury steak, meatballs, mac n cheese, fried chicken, etc.... all your typical American buffet staples. I did like their dessert bar as they had dirt pudding and an ok bread pudding (my co-worker seemed unimpressed with the bread pudding). Again, nothing to write home about. OVERALL- on the chicken wings alone, I would say check it out. I get a bit nostalgic when I have them, as it takes me back to the early 90's and the many MANY graduation parties that used to serve them. But where else can you add a chopped steak to your buffet, for just a $1. Celebrity Rating- Jean Claude Van Damme (his early years)

When I saw two other reviews about this particular Ponderosa that seemed positive, I eagerly checked out the date. Yep, a few years have passed since these reviewers wrote about them. I need to begin by explaining that eating at this particular Ponderosa had been a secret, guilty pleasure for years. My husband is a chef, and he would never dream of stopping at a Ponderosa, but from the time my son was in 6th grade until two years ago, I made a monthly trek to a spot near Richmond for a first husband, divorced-parent weekend visitation exchange. And, let's face it, between Indianapolis and the Stucky's before reaching Richmond, very few non-fast food places are available. The Greenfield exit became a traditional stop, and somehow I ended up a Ponderosa 8 years ago because other sit-down restaurants were running long Friday night waits. But, this Ponderosa was different for quite a few years. The food seemed fresh. and although probably not homemade, buffet items seemed far above what I'd come to expect from buffets. I've never been one to enjoy a buffet with 100 items -- all tasting mediocre -- just because the food is endless and pricetag cheap. But, two weeks ago, I headed back across I-70 and thought I'd stop at the Ponderosa. Two years had passed since my last visit. I was mortified. The food on the buffet was straight from cans; it even had that tin taste. I tried salads first, and after the fake cheese, fake bacon bits, and incredibly cheap-tasting salad dressing, I moved to the entree section. Again, canned everything. In fact, I would have a difficult time distinguishing different food items because they all tasted relatively the same -- all resembling different stages of mush. Then, I tried the dessert bar. Everything tasted like thawed freezer items. My last effort involved actually ordering a small steak and baked potato. The steak was grilled well rather than medium rare. The baked potato had that fake sour cream and was an "old" baked potato. Since it was around 7 p.m. on a Tuesday night, I'd guess this baked was from the previous day with that dark yellow & brown look. Although I cannot definitely state that this food did a number on my stomach, I can tell you that I stopped twice to run into restrooms between Greenfield and Greenwood. The only food item I consumed past a few bits was the steak -- simply because I was so hungry. I would guess this Ponderosa used quite a bit of tenderizer to make that little steak edible or something to extend its walk-in shelf life. I guess this Ponderosa has gone by the way of the ones I remember from Indianapolis and Carmel years ago. We used to call them "Ponda-grossa" for a reason. Greenfield now has a Ponda-grossa to offer weary travelers on I-70.

I must admit that we frequent this Ponderosa more than we should, however it's the good food and service that keeps bringing us back. It's probably the best Ponderosa that I've ever been to and I've been going to various locations for a long time (anyone remember the early '80s). The place is always clean and friendly. They are also an award winning location having a wall of plaques to prove it. You can tell the manager takes pride in his franchise here. We'll keep coming back as long as the quality of the food and service continues to be great.
