Great authentic food, small eating area but worth it like I said great food. The whole family enjoyed everything that they ordered and it was made fresh.

The is a hidden gem!!!! Prices are great for what you get. Pollo Supremo may be the best thing I have eaten at any Mexican Restaurant! Drink specials are fantastic as well. If you want swanky, don't come here. If you want great food, then this is where to go. So glad we stumbled upon this gem!!!

I always find it difficult to give a Mexican Rest. 5 stars as they all seem the same. However, this place was outstanding. You never would have guessed that you could have such a great meal when you walk in. These are the places you love to find and you never want to share. We happened to stroll in after a round of golf last weekend and the first surprise was the 36oz 5.00 beer special. I'm sorry but, you can't get a beer for 5.00 downtown especially when this beer makes you the most interesting person in the world. DOS XX. Great food... Salsa is quite good. Hidden gem in Fortville.

I can't help but say the name with a hickish accent. El five....That's just my brain though and has no bearing on the food/experience. I went here for lunch last week over the chain option 10 minutes further away. It didn't disappoint!! Chips were fresh and warm, salsa was legit and not too runny or spicy. The lunch #11 hot and spicy burrito was on special for $5.99 ($1.00 off) so I went for it. Server assured me it wasn't spicy at all in spite of the word 'spicy' in the name of the dish and it was not. I would however, call it a bit of a meat explosion. This guy contains chicken, ground beef.....AND beef tips on top. Seriously impressive. I would have gotten at least 2 meals out of it if the boyfriend didn't devour the leftovers before i could. Massive burrito. Sure, the interior is a bit jank. Just study the yummy food going in your mouth instead of the decor and you'll be just fine.

Nice place to grab lunch. Not sure why people had bad things to say about the service, my guy was great. Fast and courteous. I took a star away because the guacamole was horrible! Cant have bad guac at a mexican restaurant!

Very solid 4. Food was very fresh, good sized-portions. My husband had shrimp chimichangas ( no extra charge for shrimp), and I had the HUGE burrito California. When I couldn't decide between steak or chicken, our friendly server suggested both, a good idea. I took at least half of it home. The setting is a but garish, the margarita maybe a little weak, but the food was very good for the money

Awesome food, huge portions! After losing our "go to" mexican restaurant, we had been looking for a good authentic mexican restaurant with authentic flavor. I am glad we tried El 5 de Mayo! Everything had good seasoning and tasted great. It appeared that everything we ordered was made in house. Very pleased and we plan to go back often.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
