Friendly service, Norman Rockwell style. Indeed, this establishment could have been the model for a Norman Rockwell painting. If his paintings could talk and the food in those paintings could smell and taste, this is probably what it would be like. Old School Americana! No thrills, no frills, but the friendliest, cleanest and freshest of everything. Even the coffee is what you'd expect if you went back to the forties: weak but piping hot. I had the $4.97 breakfast special, to pancakes, two eggs, two strips of bacon and a small juice. Plus, I added a smoked pork chop as a side. Everything was delicious other than the coffee, but that's probably because I've learned to like coffee Ethiopian, Italian, Turkish or Cuban style--strong. Before I close, if your looking for a gourmet breakfast experience this is NOT it. As such it would rate only one or two stars. This is a first class, old school diner experience.

I love this place. Was working in Evansville for a few weeks and was really getting tired if restaurant food. Then I found the Merry go round. Home style diner food at its best. Made to order and served with a smile. Don't let the rough neighborhood scare you. The place is clean and he staff is friendly.

Um, well I'm not sure where all the racing reviews are coming from. Its a restaurant and the food is average. The service is average. The decor is back country, we just don't care, which is fine, but overall an average place.

Been coming to this restaurant with my family since I was a little girl. It's been owned and operated by the same family as long as I have been eating there, the owner is usually out helping saying hello to everyone. The staff is so very friendly! If your looking for some good home cooked food, this is the place! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything is reasonably priced and tastes absolutely wonderful. It's definitely a diamond in the rough for Evansville.

The food was great! I ordered fried catfish with a side salad and green beans. The green beans were awesome! Flavored well (down south taste) and definitely not canned! The catfsih was seasoned well, fried and flaky. The dinner rolls were yummy. The side salad was just iceburg lettuce but its like saying Paula Deene is known for making salads and she isn't!! I asked for vinagrette and you would have thought I cursed the lady - she said we have creamy italian! Now, the place looks like Mel's Diner - it even sits in front of a pay by the hour type motel. I debated getting out the car, but decided to go for it. It definitely has a Mayberry feel. The service was horrible. I walked in, no one greeted me. The one lady kept stapling the daily specials to the menus. I spent most of the time talking to the back of my waitress's head as she walked away because she never made eye contact, brought me extra napkins, a straw, refilled my drink or anything else. HOWEVER, if you look like you belong in Mayberry then you will receive awesome service! However, if you are just passing through or happen to have a designer shades or a handbag expect to be treated like an alien! There is no southern hospitality to strangers at this diner!

I spent seven years living in Evansville, Indiana and just about every weekend from the time I was 6 until I was almost 15, we went to Merry Go Round for breakfast or dinner. It's nothing fancy, but they serve some of the best food around. When my sister and I went back to Indiana after 7 years away (having moved to Tucson, Arizona with our parents in 2001), we made sure to stop in at the Merry Go Round. It brought back childhood memories and we both ordered some of our old favorites. A grilled chese and fries for me with a cup of navy bean soup and a bowl of chili and a hamburger for her with coffee. All for under $15 (including the small price for switching fries for chips on the sandwiches). I'm not kidding, this place is really good. Make sure to stop in if you're ever in Evansville.
