Truly an authentic Japanese experience. As someone who visited Japan on various occasions, is nice to find this restaurant. Great Sushi and excellent Bento boxes at lunch make this the best Japanese place in the tristate. You know it is authentic when most of their guests are Japanese nationals who work at Toyota or one of its Japanese suppliers. They have a great private room for a large party. Experience a little Japan in Evansville - How cool is that!

This place is really good. Their sushi is very fresh. I could usually tell from their ikura, not fishy at all. Their service is very good, close to something you'd see in Tokyo. I will surely come back

Easily, easily, EASILY, the BEST sushi joint you could ever possibly think of finding in Evansville. We have become regulars here in the past year or so, and have gotten to know the workers and owners of Iwataya very well, and we have yet to be let down once. Service is the best of the big four Japanese eateries in town. The sushi freshness, selection, presentation, and authenticity is spot on here, unlike the cream cheese lathered, fried stuff they serve over at Nagasaki. The atmosphere of a sushi bar should be very distinct, and reflective of its' origins, and Iwataya is no short of that. Along with the sushi, give some of their hot plates a try, specifically the Chicken Katsu & Rice. Definitely a favorite. If the Japanese reps from Toyota down the street in Princeton approve, I'm sure they could adequately satisfy your Japanese food cravings. We see them more often than we see anyone else! You won't regret your visit here.

I got the lunch box for $8.50...and the price is right. You get miso soup, salad, tempura and your entree (chicken teriyaki), PLUS a California roll. Don't order the tempura here. Veggies were heavily battered and clumped together...making the fare heavy and unappetizing. The chicken teriyaki was nothing special. Not bad, but not great. Sushi was fresh. They make it on site. Service was average.

For Japanese American, this the best I have had. Better sushi than Japan. Atmosphere is great, you sit on the floor or in an area with shoes off, or regular. It is expensive but worth the try if you like Japanese.

Best sushi in town. It may be pricey, but you get what you pay for! The rolls are usually not skimpy and always delicious....FRESH raw fish, none of this Evansville cream cheese filled fried bullshit. And the staff is always so nice to my children, like way above and beyond.

This is seriously the only place I have been in Evansville that felt close to what going somewhere in Japan feels like. The type of Japanese food that I like isn't found anywhere else in town. A gyudon that is fantastic and always makes me smile when I have it. The staff is extra friendly as well! The addition of the grocery store next door makes it doubly amazing. Wouldn't recommend any other place in Evansville.

I recently made reservations for my parents for their anniversary at Iwataya. The staff was so friendly and went above and beyond to make my parents feel special. My parents had a wonderful time and absolutely loved the food. Highly recommended!

A bit pricey, but a great place for a bit more of an authentic Japanese experience. When being seated, you have your choice of a "normal" table or a more traditional booth where you remove your shoes and have to climb in, which I found comfortable. They also have large rooms where you sit on the floor, but haven't tried one of those yet. The sushi here is excellent, and probably the best I've had in Evansville thus far. The main entrees are good, and were damn near comforting to my Japanese co-worker. I had the tonkatsu which was pretty good and prepared authentically, but next time I'll probably stick to all sushi so I can get some variety of flavors in my meal.

Very authentic Japanese food! Honestly, I was not expected much because I was assuming there are not much Japanese customers in this town. BUT, the food here was very authentic! Price is bit high considering about prices of other things in Evansville. But it worth it! I enjoyed Crazy Roll that has several different fish, looks pretty and taste great!

In the past, I would have given this place at least 4 stars...but, the chef left (to open a place in Cinci) and the new chef is just not good. The sushi is ...something...I can't explain. The piece de resistance was when we ordered tempura and it was soggy? Even I can fry tempura!!?
