I was initially skeptical of the Chopstick House based upon its location in a strip mall and predictable decor; however, when my food came, I was convinced that it is a contender for the best Chinese restaurant in Evansville. Like most Chinese restaurants in the area, the dinner portions at Chopstick House are generous, leaving most patrons with enough food for lunch the next day. What makes the Chopstick House different than other restaurants is the fact that all of the chicken dishes are made with white meat, which makes them much better than typical Asian fare. In addition, every meal comes with soup and a sugar cookie, which is more than enough to ensure that you will leave with a smile on your face. In terms of service, the owners are incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome without interfering with your meal. There are usually other diners in the restaurant, but never enough to constitute a crowd. While the Chopstick House may not constitute "fine dining," it is one of the best casual restaurants serving ethnic food in town. This is a place that would be good for a casual date or a dinner with friends.

I took my sister and brother in law here and they loved it as well. Give up on Golden Buddha and Yen Ching - head to Chopstick House!

Every Christmas we visit family in Evansville and order from this Restaurant. Quite possibly the best Chinese food in the country! They make their own sweet and sour dressing which is outstanding! Everything is fresh and very clean. Highly recommend.

HOT AND SOUR SOUP...amazing! All the food here is incredible and the price is reasonable. The service is always top notch. I never had a bad dish. Enjoy.

Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. The hot and sour soup tasted like warm soy sauce. Too salty to eat and nothing like actual hot and sour soup. Not spicy or tasty at all. The other food was very bland and very Americanized Chinese food. I ordered fried rice with my meal and it also looked and tasted like it had been soaked in soy sauce for several days. It was not fried rice, but rather steamed rice that had been briefly tossed in a wok with several gallons of soy sauce. Overall the service was good and the people were friendly, but I wouldn't go back if Jesus was singing karaoke and offered to pick up the tab.

If you were to judge a restaurant by where it is located or what it looks like on the outside, you would probably skip over this one and miss out on a hidden gem. In fact, I chose it one day because of where it was and what it looked like from the outside, mostly because having returned from China, I discovered that I could find more authentic food at places like these. The decor inside is nothing like... say... Yen Ching, but again it is the food that I was after. When I asked for certain things by their Chinese names, I could see the eyes of my waitress go wide and a small, cheeky grin appeared. I had changed the game. She said that while they didn't have some of the items on the menu, they could probably make them. I saw her go back and talk with what looked like the owner. Eventually the owner came over to chat with me and she asked how I knew these things and we got to talking about the semester I spent in China. After that, this restaurant has been my preferred Chinese restaurant and when I came in to ask about a large order for a group, she threw in the appetizers for free. The food is good... I don't think I have ever had anything that I didn't like and I am always willing to try a new dish here because I trust that it will be good. One of my favourite dishes... pre-China has always been Lemon Chicken and of the places that I have tried they are the closest to my favourite restaurant in California. The sauce is a good balance between tart and sweet and instead of a batter (that usually isn't cooked through), they bread their chicken and I prefer that. The Hot and Sour Soup is fantastic as well... although... it is hot, so just remember that ;). And the noodle dishes (Lo Mein) are really good as well. They are also good value for the quality and quantity of food. They also have a lunch deal, which is great if you want Chinese food, you don't want massive portions, but you also want to get your money's worth. Love this place, the staff are great, food is great, it is unassuming and very laid back... and for people who are skeptical of Chinese food, this is a nice place to go as well.

Used yelp to find it and it lived up to the reviews! Food was awesome, service was great, and the place was clean. Prices were pretty much the same that you would find in any chinese joint. If I lived in the area I would definitely visit frequently.

Great hot and sour soup. Pot stickers etc. we drive up from Owensboro worth the drive. Everything is good. Great service very attentive and very concerned if you don't like something. Our appetizer order took a little long, rather than wait she brought us egg rolls on the house and then the appetizer. We enjoyed every bite. I had king pao and wife had sweet n sour. Can't wait to try more on the menu.

Visiting family in Evansville and went to Chopstick House on Mom's recommendation. Really enjoyed their hot sour soup which was plenty spicy, crunchy crab rangoon and lemon chicken in a lunch portion size. Highly recommend Chopstick House. The staff is friendly and attentive. I was also welcomed by the owner which is always a nice touch.

Chopstick House is a hidden gem! The atmosphere is fairly typical of strip mall Chinese restaurants, but don't let that fool you. The food is always good...no matter what you order. Great value for the money!

When it comes to Chinese takeout, we always order from the Chopstick House. They have the your standard favorites--Kung Pao Shrimp, General Tso's Chicken, Egg Drop Soup, Moo Goo Gai Pan. With takeout, your meal comes with Egg Rolls, Rice, and Fortune Cookies. The last time we ate at the restaurant, we ordered the Lemon Chicken. If you like lemon, then you'll love it. The chicken was breaded and crispy with a lemon sauce (which is hard to do). We also had the Curry Chicken that was pretty good, although not my favorite. And I'm not the biggest fan of their Crab Rangoon (too much cream cheese, not enough crab). But I love their Kung Pao Beef, and their Plum Wine is absolutely wonderful. And the selection of meals is pretty extensive. As for the service, it's always good. And the ambiance is low lighting and quiet. Definitely the Chinese restaurant to eat at for the price.

Really clean restaurant with good food and a really nice staff. Karen, the owner, is one of the friendliest people I've ever met, and she will go out of her way to make sure your have a great meal. She even sends my family a Christmas card and gift certificate every year! I usually order the hot and sour soup, which is delicious, and comes with your meal. As an entree I get the Hunan vegetables (not on the menu but they will make it for you), which are basically vegetables with a slightly spicy sauce. I don't think the decor in the restaurant has changed in the past twenty or so years, but the food is good and the service is friendly, so I can look past that.

Don't let appearance discourage .... This place was top-rated by Yelpers in The city. So I decided to try. The place looks like the typical strip mall Chinese takeout, from the outside and in. The food is far from typical. I tried the wonton soup, which was fantastic. It was thick loaded with exotic vegetables and the wonton. I next tried the curry chicken, also very good. If you're able to order takeout because you live here, you're very fortunate. This place is worth a visit.

Stopped in after seeing the reviews on Yelp. We were on the way to a movie and just wanted something light so we could enjoy some popcorn. I had a cup of hot and sour soup, and it was divine. Excellent taste with just the right amount of heat. My friend had the egg drop soup and enjoyed it, but be aware...the large is more line family sized! We split the steamed dumplings that were delicious.

Came for lunch with the office staff few weeks ago, hot and sour soup was great, and Kung Pao (Pow) sp? was good. The food was really 4 stars, décor is 3 stars, value is 6 stars, and for this to be located in EVV it gets a bonus 1/2 star

Every meal, whether dine in or take out, is consistently good. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. The lunch specials can't be beat! My husband says the rangoon is a little 'different' but the quality of our favorite dishes and the service make up for it. We like the 4 dishes we always stick to at this type of restaurant: sweet n sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken lo mien, and gen tso's chicken Egg drop soup and egg rolls are both very good. Highly recommend!

As other reviewers have said, this is definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover" scenario. Tucked away in a little strip mall behind a car dealership, this little treasure can easily be overlooked. The decor is minimal, the service is friendly, and the seating is comfy-I'm glad we gave this place a try! We came in on a Friday for a late lunch and were the only ones there. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. We had to wait a few minutes on our food, which I actually enjoy since I like to think it was prepared fresh and not scooped out of a large container and warmed up. And if you like large portion sizes, you will not be disappointed. I ate until I was too full to function and I still have half of it left over for lunch tomorrow! I almost gave it 4 stars as I wish they had a few more vegetarian options. But the service saved it! Our waitress was extremely knowledgable about which dishes may have been cooked with beef or chicken stock, and offered plenty of alternatives. We ended up getting the Curry Bean Curd, Vegetable Lo Mein, a (giant) bowl of Vegetable Soup, and an order of Fried Wonton for just under $25. Everything I tried had a stand out flavor and we'll definitely be eating here again. TL;DR This place is easy to get to, fairly priced, delicious and has great service-I will definitely recommend it!

We have been coming to the chopstick house for over 21 years. Since then our family has moved out of the Evansville area but we always are willing to drive through Evansville just to eat at the chopstick house again. Ms. Kung always remembers us and the service is exceptional. The food is even better as well as the prices. Chinese food always seems to have the same taste, not so at the chopstick house! If your in the area and are looking for Chinese food you must try it!

This is one of my wife and I favorite place. The service is top notch and the food is amazing. I love the atmosphere here. Not a buffet so that is a plus also.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
