What can I say?? This place is an overpriced dirty chain restaurant. Both the drinks and the food are poor. I figured I would try the place as it is located across from my hotel and an easy walk when drinking alcohol. I began with the Orange Mule, a take on the Moscow mule. Their version was expensive($10), small and tasted like artificial orange. This chain tries to present itself as a cocktail bar but does not mix their drinks with fresh ingredients. Last week I had been in Covington Kentucky to the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar on Main Strasse, Their drinks are all handmade and fresh at only half the price. So the cocktail sucked so onto the beer. They have a good selection of standard industrial brews. I selected the Sam Adams seasonal but you could tell the beer lines are not well maintained as the brew had sour vinegary smell. I knew it was not the beer itself as I have had this beer at several other establishments. Onto the food.... a limited unhealthy menu. I began with the spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips. Microwaved dip which when served a fly landed in and died an agonizing scalding drowning death. I pulled the fly out with a tortilla chip and stuck it on a napkin on the bar. Nothing special with the dip all overly salty. Next a pear and blue cheese salad with apple vinaigrette dressing and grilled shrimp. Soggy salad with way too much dressing and spicy seasoned shrimp that had a flavor which clashed with salad. I found the pears in the salad but it was lacking blue cheese. A really awful experience with a $53 dollar price tag. The next trip through the Evansville area I'll give this place a miss.

It's delicious for what you ask for. I got a burger with substituted fish and it tasted nice just a little too oily and tots are the best here. It's worth the high price tag if you have the chance to go here.

DRINKS: 3 stars - The pomegranate margarita and cucumber martini were just ok. The margarita was a bit too acidic and the martini was a bit too sweet SERVICE: 3 stars - Our server was friendly and attentive. She would have received more stars but she messed up our order and made a comment about not caring about Yelp reviews ENVIRONMENT: 3 stars - Way too dark inside and the music wasn't memorable

I came to Evansville with my brother becuase he had a meeting to go to. Since I was stranded at the hotel where they didn't serve lunch, I decided to come to Bar Louie since they had some good reviews. I was surprised the place was clean and the service was great, I asked the bartender what she recommended for a hamburger. She told me the Blue Louie was really good, it comes with blue cheese, fresh spinach, bacon, and buffalo sauce. I was kind of concerned with the blue cheese but I ordered it anyways. I was amazed it had very good flavor and filled me up. If I ever come back I am coming back here to eat again. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

Tater tots taste like fish. This is a clean and pleasant restaurant with nice waitresses. The food is pretty standard American fare. I had breakfast and the eggs were okay but the tater tots had a fishy taste... Food not out of the deep fryer was decent.

Our table of six shared appetizers, and the spinach artichoke dip was excellent. The chips were fresh and very tasty. We all agreed that our favorite dip was the salsa: smooth, spicy and a unique flavor. The guac tasted freshly smashed, and queso was hot bubbling deliciousness. The spinach asiago flatbread was amazing with generous strips of perfect portabella and chunks of artichoke. The appetizers were so tasty that I had great expectations for the cheese quesadilla that I ordered for my meal. First, I was served a chicken quesadilla instead of the cheese that I had ordered. I'm vegetarian, so I sent it back. When I did receive my cheese quesadilla it was disappointing......bland and definitely ordinary, very similar to the quesadilla I had picked up out of desperation at Taco Bell last week when I was driving through a town small enough that was my only choice. The mac & cheese was creamy and flavorful with a definite "made from scratch" texture. Service was good, although both times we have dined here we had to request silverware, and both servers acted somewhat surprised at our request. Maybe we are just weird because we like to eat our mac & cheese with a fork instead of our fingers? The atmosphere was great, although quite loud. We enjoyed several different margaritas which were all very good. Bar Louie is definitely our favorite place we have found in Evansville, and we plan to return whenever we are in town. Edit: returned to Bar Louie tonight with three of my coworkers and we were disappointed with the service. Or lack of service. Not especially busy but we waited a little too long for everything....drinks, food, more drinks, and our checks. We tried to order sides of red potatoes with our sandwiches and the server said that we could not. Really? She said the sides of potatoes were only served with Hanger steak. Now, hold on a second, Sally.....we've dined here several times and we were told, "We have a scratch kitchen and make our food to order so just let us know what you would like" and now you are telling us we can't order the potatoes unless we order steak? So she went on to explain that all their sides are "pre-portioned" and so that would mess up their "pre-portions" if we ordered potatoes and didn't order steak. Huh?

Would love to give it more stars but they continue to have trouble with their wifi! As a travelling business person.. Having wifi is important. So much so that I will go to Raffertys and other places instead of here. Too bad, too, considering the other things Bar Louie has going for it like amazing drink specials and a great bar environment!

So, I felt like I needed to update this one. My boyfriend and I had a not so pleasant experience on Valentines Day here, and the manager was told about our experience and really was a class act. I love this place, and it will always be a go-to in Evansville.

Fine. But I wouldn't pick this Bar Louie given other options. And it seems this is the only bar option in the immediate area, aside from Cheeseburger in Paradise. This particular location is on the lesser side of other Bar Louies I've been to in food quality, atmosphere and layout...but it's still acceptable.

My boyfriend and I love this place!! The staff is always friendly and knows a lot about their menu. I usually go and take their suggestions so I've had a variety of menu items. I Like The Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Can't really go wrong with any of their appetizers...they are all amazing. Don't leave without having dessert.

Poor service. You would think they are making $20.00 hr the way they service the tables.

Let me set the scene: My family and I were visiting Evansville this past weekend and wanted somewhere to watch the second half of the Butler vs. Marquette game and to meet up with a family friend who we hadn't seen in a while. She suggested Bar Louie due to proximity reasons and also because they had a ton of TVs. I am only saying this because I wasn't at Bar Louie to eat. I wasn't at Bar Louie to drink. I wasn't even at Bar Louie to socialize with our long, lost family friend. I was at Bar Louie solely to see Butler win. Butler didn't win and I was very unhappy. I think these events marred my opinion of this establishment, but I also think it just wasn't really my place. They had an okay list of beers on tap and tons of mixed drinks, especially martinis. Those aren't really my thing, but if you love martinis and various other sweet, fruity drinks, then I'm quite sure you'll love this place. We also ordered the chips and three dips as well as the hummus plate. The chips and dip were meh (I typically don't like chips and salsa/queso/guacamole unless I'm at an authentic Mexican place). The hummus however was yum fest 2013. It was served with pita bread AND these huge pieces of cucumber. I loved the cucumber. Could've eaten the whole appetizer on my own.... probably due to stress eating and then afterwards trying to shut up my feelings with food. Anyways, I'd try it again, this time with no March Madness, but it didn't impress me so much that I'd demand we visit again next time we're in Evansville.

12.00 dollars for a Bloody Mary is retarded and the food is way over priced the bar smelt nasty and the servers were dressed very unprofessionally. Black tank tops and black spandex not only doesn't belong in a restaurant but some people need not wear them at all.

I was in Evansville on business and staying at a nearby hotel so I walked to this establishment to have a couple of cocktails and watch the World Series. The place had a very good crowd and the bartenders were very friendly. I ordered the steamed mussels to eat and they were okay. They were steamed in a local microbrew and they would have been amazing but they were unfortunately a bit overcooked. All in all a decent place. Tons of TVs if you're a sports fan.

  • Rachel D.

The Mac and Cheese is pretty good but the broccoli made it a little watery, otherwise pretty solid, the bacon was pretty good in it as well. We went back and had the steamed dumpling appetizers, the sliders and then the fish (for him) and the chicken tacos for me. The tacos were phenomenal. The apps were just okay. And the fish was really good. All-in-all. Four star worthy. The worst part of the meal was the limeade. Absolutely no sugar in it. I about gagged when I drank the first sip.

I recently tried Bar Louie for the first time and was pleased. We were on the east side of town and thought we'd give this a try for lunch. The place seemed busy for a weekday lunch, but we didn't have to wait for a table. The place looks modern, with nice decor and plenty of TVs to watch sports. The patrons were young trendy, with several business professionals. There was nice selection of drinks, but since I was going back to work I just had water. I ordered a burger that had bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. It was a little messy (to be expected) but tasted great. The bun was toasted to perfection and the patty was cooked medium well just as I had requested. The burger was served with fries. The fries were decent, but they needed some salt and the portion seemed a bit small. No big deal though. At $10.50's a pricey burger, but it was darn good. I'll be back!

I was not expecting this at all. Trashy looking young women with the wrong type of makeup in the wrong place. I just did not expect this to be so "sports bar" type. The food was blah and unremarkable. Not sure what I expected but whatever it was I have experienced better.

An hour wait for a mediocre meal and then another hour wait for the ridiculous check. All around bad.

Another sports bar, with more TV's than most, more beers on tap than most, and a menu more varied than most. But it's still just a big busy sports bar with an ordinary menu. Great descriptions don't make the food any better. Service was a definite weak point.

We really like this place; the atmosphere is great the food is different from anything else in Evansville. I have eaten there probably over 20 times since they have opened. Have gone for lunch, and dinner, have been there with just another person for a business meeting and have gone with as many a 15 other people for a party the service and food is always consistent. So far I have tried most things on the menu and just had one fish sandwich that I did not care for.

It is hard to find a smoke-free bar environment in Evansville. This place accomplishes that and has a great crowd. A different mix of ages here on a Saturday night, with most being mid-20's to 40's. I just orderd drinks, so not sure of the quality of food.

  • Erika B.

Really good drinks. Plus the service was awesome. I first ordered a lemon drop and it didn't taste from what I am used to, so our server was so nice he asked if I wanted something else ( I got the Samba and it was yummy) and he got me that instead.

Great Food and Great Atmosphere and the service is second to none! Prices are little high but worth it since it's an upscale bar. The outdoor seating is great and the waiting area has a very nice fire-pit. Lots of choices for specialty beer and mixed drinks but be aware there is a dress code...No T-Shirts... a great idea for maintaining a business casual atmosphere! If you want a great place to take your business guests and clients for lunch, this is the place for you.

I've been to this Bar Louie a few times while on business trips, as I stay in one of the hotels located across the access road from it. This location is no different than most of the other Bar Louie establishments I've been to in other parts of the country. Good food, great drink specials, lots of TVs... basically everything you'd expect from a chain bar/restaurant. The booths are nice in this one... very comfortable and accomodating for at least 4 people. The downside of this particular location is the waitstaff and the noise level. Most other Bar Louies I've been to aren't this loud. It was hard to hear each other at our small table. Also, two of the times I've been here, our waitress has gone missing as we sit at our table, tapping our fingers, waiting to get another round. I'll still come here as a last-minute dinner decision while in Evansville on business, but I prefer other Bar Louie locations I've been to in the past over this one.

Great place for specials...food pretty good also...service is friendly. Tuesday is $1 burgers and Friday is 5 dollar buckets of beer...can't beat that now can you? Had the pulled pork which was alright, the fries were good and had the blackened chicken on the large plates which was decent.

I screamed when I found out this opened in Miami, where I live. I had been to the Evansville location a few times with my boyfriend whose family lives in E-ville. The pretzel sticks are mandatory. Mandatory, I say. My favorite dip is the cinnamon butter. The menu is more diverse than a college campus recruitment catalogue. There is literally something for every person and palate. The hot chicken wings were so good I may have licked the plate a couple of times, much to the chagrin of my boyfriend. Oh - the drinks. The bar is as good as any bar can get. And they have TVs so the men can watch their stupid sports game while the ladies eat one of their divine salads. I am beyond excited to visit the new Miami location.

I drink a lot. When visiting my hometown of Evansville, I drink much, much more! After two Thanksgiving dinners, and visiting various family members, and both of my nursing home bound grandmothers, wifey & I needed several drinks. Upon pulling into our hotel, we noticed a Bar Louie directly next door. How convenient, and they were open on Thanksgiving evening. NICE! Turkey Day cocktails await! Surprisingly, I have never been to a Bar Louie before, so I had no idea what to expect. We came here only because it was conveniently located, and they were open on Thanksgiving night. When the joyous couple that we are walked in, we were surprised to see that it was actually a very nice establishment. Granted, Evansville is somewhat backwards, and anything nice is generally not supported by the predominately closed minded white trash residents that make up the armpit of America, otherwise known as Southern Indiana. Impressed that Bar Louie was nice, the patrons had teeth, and most were nicely dressed, we decided to stay and sit at the bar. The bartender, Louie (Yes, his name really was Louie) was very personable and told us that ALL drafts were $2. They had a selection of 40 drafts. Fat Tire 2 below for $2? Happy Fucking Thanksgiving! Louie informed us that Evansville had just started selling Fat Tire. Well, I was prepared to drink all the Fat Tire they had, so not-so-quick there Louie! After wifey & I were in a state of Fat Tire euphoria, we took a looksie at the menu. The menu was kind of all over the place, but impressive. Prices were kinda' high, but we decided to get a few apps. I opted for the Ahi Tuna. Decent, but I've had much, much better. Wifey had some pretzel roll concoction, and this was actually quite tasty. Great service, $2 Thanksgiving drafts, and decent food = 4 STARS. Oh, and how could I forget---I got to see one of my favorite baseball players: former NY Yankee, and current LA Dodgers coach, Don Mattingly. I hope Bar Louie makes it---most nice dining / bar establishments in Evansville eventually succumb to a miserable financial death.

Bar louie is a clean fun atmosphere. I particularly like the luigi which consists of shaved steak sandwich and it a monster. Instead of fries you can get tator tots. YUMMM! On tuesdays I can go there for dollar burger night, only 50 cents to get whatever you want added to it. The the next night on wednesdays I can get a bucket of 5 beers for $5! BEST DEAL EVER!

I have to follow a gluten free diet. I had found a gluten free menu for Bar Louie online so I headed over with some family members. When I got there the host and server knew nothing of a gluten free menu. Thankfully the chef did. He has a friend with Celiac's disease so he hooked me up with the Simply Fish (Salmon) with broccoli. It came with an herb butter of some sort for the salmon that was pretty tasty. The salmon was good, but a little overcooked (not enough to complain about though). The people I dined with enjoyed Bar Louie but wouldn't put it on their must eat list. Except the person who ordered the Luigi sandwich. He reported the meat being full of flavor and would return just for that sandwich.

When I ate at the Newport, KY location enjoyed it very much, but I was also drunk. This place is underwhelming. Too many items on the menu which means your experience is going to be very inconsistent. I've also experienced poor service, and your typical crowd here is nothing to brag about.

Bar Louie is a sports bar with a twist, good food. I had a couple of small plates, grilled shrimp on mixed greens and a hummus, tabouleh plate. Both were excellent. Service was attentive and quick. Decent selection of beer and wine. Definitely would come back

We went to Bar Louie on $1 burger night. You get what you pay for...lousy burger that tasted like a blend of bread crumbs and low quality beef. For an extra charge I added tomato...which was not ripe and cut from the end of a small tomato. Only redeeming item was the tater tots.

My Wife and I have been here a few times now and we've had a nice experience each time. The appetizers are unique and outstanding! Love the decor too. Lots of TVs so it's a great place to go with a few friends, have a drink and watch a game.

Had a late lunch here on Saturday. Free donuts and bloody marys for everyone!! Three of us had salads and the shrimip skewers. The salads are HUGE! Very good. My sister and I split the Hong Kong and mom ended up with leftovers. Service was a little slow considering how few tables were occupied but not bad enough to spoil the experience.

i somehow enjoyed this place. we were there a few weeks ago for dinner and the place was packed. its a great place to drink of course, hence "bar louie" but the food is not too shabby either. great atmosphere and the service and staff were nice.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what the most pleasant surprise was about Bar Louie. Was it the fact that the food was beyond the label "bar food" in terms of variety and taste? Could it be our server, who was the perfect person for first-timers like us as she offered up equal parts recommendations and rapport? Or was it the fact that we had no idea this was a chain of restaurants and, after our experience here, were positively delighted to find out there is one of these in our (figurative) backyard at home in Texas? It's a combination of all of those things, and I could easily see how a business like Bar Louie is able to expand into differing markets around the country if they all offer up the same esteemed level of service and selection of delicious menu options. We had time to kill before our flight out of the nearby airport and were looking for a place to grab a good meal. As anyone who has been to Evansville will tell you, this is easier said than done, as the local dining flavor walks the line between "eh... I've done this before" and "eh... I think this might give me a heart attack if I eat it." Bar Louie looked enticing from the road, the reviews from my fellow Yelpers sounded helpful and, most importantly, they were open and bustling on an early Sunday morning. The patio was pretty full when we headed inside, but the interior was largely empty. There were a few horseshoe booths occupied but the main dining room and bar area, not to mention the somewhat private room in the back opposite the theatre-in-the-round bar, looked deserted. Rest easy, readers, that a lot of these seats were soon occupied before we even got to our entrees. Purples and blacks line the walls, along with some niche artwork and photographs on display. It's hard to explain but the atmosphere is somehow both casual and cool, like you could totally come here and down a few drinks one night and maybe discuss the chiaroscuro play of light and shadows with your art major date. I liked it, and the comfortable booths helped out a lot, too. (I've spent an unfortunate number of hours in uncomfortable bar booths throughout my life and these were very accommodating.) Speaking of help, Taylor (Tayler?) was soon over to greet us with a smile and a level of service that was positively refreshing for so early on a Sunday. Her engaging personality and attentive service to all of her tables made her into an absolutely fantastic choice for us when it came to recommending items to try, as well as just making us feel at ease in a place we had never been. With news that this place operated as a scratch kitchen (score!), we settled ourselves in for what promised to be a taste-filled meal. Taylor (Tayler?) suggested we start with the tempura shrimp and pretzel stick appetizers, and this was an awesome one-two combo of items to gorge ourselves on before the main course arrived. The pretzels were fluffy but not too fluffy (hard to explain), and were bolstered by a trio of sauces and toppings that made them delicious. The shrimp, on the other hand, were phenomenal on their own. But when combined with the chili sauce or the buffalo sauce, these things flew off the flavor scale. I think my Mom and I were about to engage in civil war for the last bits of shrimp left in the bottom of the serving cone. For the main course, we went with the BLTT (think BLT, plus turkey), a breakfast staple of eggs, toast, potatoes (the Little Louie) and a Southwest Burger that had some jalapeños on it that were clearly ready for a fight. The food was tasty, even if the fries were largely forgettable. It's not that they were bad... they just were not good. I'm making a mental note to possibly try some other sides upon my next visit, whether it is here again, or in Texas. As it stands, though, Bar Louie is a great alternative to other American/bar staples dotting the North American landscape. The food is different enough to warrant your attention, the atmosphere is chilled without being "too cool for school," and the staff all seem to put their friendliest and most functional foot forward. There are not many chain restaurants I would go out of my way for, but I would put Bar Louie on that list.

Pretty consistently standard for a Bar Louie =) Servers are kind and attentive (and good looking), variety of drinks never disappoints, beer is served tall and cold =) ... Food is not exactly my favorite but they do have a wide variety of dishes to please everybody =) It's good to stop at a Bar Louie once in a while for social beer drinking and a few appetizers, as I find myself doing here and there =)

I'm going very subtly mention the bad waitress who walk away from me as I was talking and the horrible cussing from the staff as they walked in and out of the kitchen! The so called Shrimp Tempura is absolutely disgusting! Hand breaded? No possible way! They are definitely frozen, out of a bag, cheap tidbits of shrimp! Then they are put on a mess of shredded lettuce that is brown and wilted, to go! The only reason I gave one star was my 1 Martini that I ordered was not bad! Don't go here!

    (1)
  • Tom M.

Been here fifteen minutes. My server seems very uninterested and it definitely is affecting the service. Ordered a margarita and it came with no salt on the rim and probably a full lime cut up in it for "garnish". I am not impressed.

Horrible. Menu overpriced and burgers are nasty. Apps are good but pricey! $10-12. Go to Friday's or Applebee's. You'll get more and better food for less money. Honestly.
