Portion size is pretty big but good. Try the lamb shank . Service is pretty quick and servers are attentive.

We went to dinner there recently for a friends birthday. We had reservations at 7pm. We arrived at 7:00 and didn't even receive our drinks until 7:45. We waited 25 minutes for white wine because it was being chilled. Both couples bottles of white were served warm. The server seemed very scatter brained and the server helping her bus our table said she would be back soon and was off having a conniption fit. The oso bucco and chicken were over cooked and dry. There were many more issues that would take too long to list. We will not be back and I can't see them staying in business much longer.

This is very good Greek restaurant. Not your mom and pop gyro shop. Very nice full bar, and ambient. Friendly and prompt service. Plenty of parking. Free pita chips. Generous and well balanced dishes.

My meal was good. On my husbands meal they were out of a side dish and they didn't acknowledge it until he asked. Because our waitress never checked on us he was finished with his meal when he asked about his missing side. They didn't even offer to take anything off the bill until he told them they needed to. So guess what..... Waitress didn't get her tip. She was horrible.

We visited for lunch on a rainy Saturday. I had the Dolmades (grapevine leaves stuffed with spiced ground beef, rice, and herbs - like mint! - and topped with marinara sauce). Sides: roasted potatoes and a zucchini-squash combo. My companions had the Gyros platter, each with different sides. The server was sensitive to gluten-free needs, and service was fine. If you're in Evansville, and hungry for Greek cuisine, then this is the place to go.

I was so disappointed with this restaurant tonight. Our family has eaten here in years past but it had been quite some time. First of all, it was raining outside and water was leaking in a door in the dining area and splashing our daughter. When we were trying to figure out where it was definitely coming from, we discovered a mushroom was growing from between the kick plate of the door and the actual door itself. Really? The light that hung over our table had so much dust in it, I guarantee it hadn't been cleaned in years. And I could go on about the dirty greenery hanging from above us as well but I won't... The service was adequate. But slow. The food was average. The gyros were good. The Greek salad was too. The pasta was bland as well as the chicken. So overall the food wasn't bad. My concern was the uncleanliness of the dining Area. If the dining area was that dirty what does the preparation area look like. Yuck!

Food is overpriced and the service is SLOW. The food is often bland and lacks Mediterranean character. The gyro meat tastes processed and filmy. I have eaten there 3-4 times and can only halfheartedly recommend lunch. That's only if you have nowhere to be quickly after lunch and are ok with spending $12-$18 for lunch.

Amazing food! Service depends on who is serving, but Doros is always friendly and engaging. The humus is second to none in this city! Excellent gyros as well. Very happy when we eat here.and we will be back.

This place offers great authentic food made by great authentic Greek owners. Doris and Ellada, the owners, know how to create a wonderful meal and atmosphere. Their recently remodeled space is another draw since it truly gives off an authentic ethnic feel.

definitely our favorite restaurant in evansville. great place to bring the family. ask for the house specials and let the chef choose your meal for you! save room for dessert, because the spanakopita is the best i've ever tasted.

I visited this restaurant last night while on business in Evansville. I was disappointed with just about the whole experience. First when I arrived, I sat at the bar to have my meal. There was no bartender for the first 10 minutes. It was obvious the restaurant was understaffed. I was put back into great spirits by the heavy pour or scotch, Bonus! I then decided to order the Lamb Ribs. The ribs came out already sliced and very mushy. It seemed the ribs were sitting in a broth waiting for the "lucky" customer to order them to eat. The ribs tasted fatty and full of broth, yuck, and slapped on the grill just to heat them up. Not my idea of ribs. The vegetables were good and enjoyable. It was disappointing to see 2 other customers complain about their meals as well. Note To Owners: Stop cutting corners with the staff and take care of the food and customers.

Came with our group of 6 1/2 around 2pm-3pm today and it was quite empty so we were seated quickly. The server was nice and ensured all our drinks were refilled without us asking. This being our first time here, we didn't realize how much food there was going to be! I ordered the gyro platter and couldn't even finish half of it because there was a ton of food. I guess my only discomfort with my food was that my pita bread was chopped into triangles; I like my gyros wrapped like a sandwich. My husband got the Mousakka and that was a hearty dish; almost like a shepherd's pie with meat on the bottom and layered with mashed potatoes on top. We were pleased with our food, looking forward to trying different dishes the next time we go back.

Well, not as Vegetarian friendly as we thought. Yes they could make any pasta Vegetarian, but we didn't go for pasta. Staff was nice, but probably will not be back.

Fantastic dinner. We started with the best hummus and some dolmades I have ever had. Main course was the pork commandaria and it was fantastic. The menu says "Pork tenderloin sautéed in a white wine, thyme and mushroom sauce over rice with asparagus." The sauce makes this dish. They use a sweeter Greek wine and I absolutely loved it. My business companion (who is Lebanese) had lamb shanks and couldn't stop raving about them. And we finished with baklava and another pastry for desert which were of course also amazingly good. We were able to meet the owner who came out to check on us and our server was quick, friendly and very helpful recommending dishes and taking extra care of us. I a Weill definitely go back the next time I am in town!!

I killed a cockroach on the bar. No I'm not kidding......Had the Zeus entree for dinner. Lamb was decent though very small portion, pork chop was cooked to chewy and the side of potatoes were undercooked. You could not pay me to go back. Please look elsewhere.

Never had anything good here but the baklava...they were much better before they switched locations.

I really miss the Acropolis! It is a great place to eat, whether you are on a romantic date or if you are out with your friends. It caters to just about everyone. Inside is quite spectacular, although sometimes the service is hit and miss. The food is really good. I don't think there is one dish that I have ever tried that I didn't like or wasn't satisfied with. They always bring you fresh pita bread. One is plain, one is fried (or maybe toasted) with some kind of salty, garlic seasoning. And they serve it with a cinnamon butter. My mistake is usually filling up on pita, but it is so good. Especially if you order some hummus or tzatziki. Both of the salmon dishes are my favourites. The salmon is always perfectly cooked, I love the asparagus and it is the perfect amount of food, enough to fill, but not enough to give you that "I'm so full I'm going to be sick" feeling. The gyro platter was nice, but a lot of food. I have also had the pasta with scallops, which was nice, but not my favourite. My best friend always gets the Gyro Tortellini and swears by it. We don't usually get dessert as we are usually stuffed by the end of our meal, but on one occasion my best friend and I opted for dessert. They happened to have a Rose Cake that day, in fact I don't think that they have ever offered it again, but it was amazing! It was so delicate and it had the slightest taste of Rose in it as it had some rose water in it and it was so moist and not at all too rich after a big meal. If you haven't been, you should go!

You can not go wrong at the Acropolis! I just love it here. Every time I have gone I have been with a large group and they always do so well. The food is excellent - I am in love with the fried bread they bring out as an appetizer. The atmosphere is comfortable and makes you feel relaxed even though it can get busy at times. If Greek food scares you, don't worry. They have a little something here for everyone. If you are looking for a nice place for dinner in Evansville, IN, this is the place to go.

Pros: Great food if you like Greek Nice atmosphere for a dinner Very reasonably priced lunch specials Cons: My work orders carryout somewhat frequently. The food is always good, but they are constantly forgetting items we paid for. If they double checked the order before bagging it up that might help reduce these errors.

Returned with a party of 7. 6p on a Sat, no waiting although I had made a reservation, I do not think it would have made a difference. Having Gyro Platter, Kota Lemonati, kids spaghetti, filet of beef medallions, chicken gargonzola, mixed grille, and I can't remember. Service was sub-par. Food was fair to midland. This is not consistent with my last review.

My favorite restaurant in Evansville. If I lived here, I would visit more frequently. Authentic, freshly prepared hummus is divine!!!

Being from Chicago, my Greek palate consists of gyros, gyro burgers, pizza puffs, and Chicago style hot dogs. Acropolis doles out a bit more of the authentic flavor, though they do have the requisite gyros available. The decor is nice, though the music flips between authentic Greek music and Euro-techno-pop. The wait staff is friendly, especially if the owner happens to stop by for a chat. Last time we were there he recommended we do their special, which is basically you naming a price, and them bringing out whatever they feel like. I'll probably update this review with that experience soon. As for the food, the spanakopita is tasty, as is my favorite, the Gorgonzola walnut salad with either shrimp or gyro meat. The gyro platter is comforting, though presented a bit more formally than in Greektown. Ah, and nothing goes with a Greek meal quite like a glass of turpentine-tasting retsina.

Hit the place for an early dinner so the service was prompt and very good. The first thing I took note of was the bread basket, just pita bread and fried pita bread, but itws accompanied with what I found was cinnamon butter. So tasty, beware its addicting and sure to give you a coronary!!! The Dolmades were tasty enough, never really had them before so I don't have anything to compare it to. On its own it didn't stand out that much. For the main dish I had the gyros tortellini and this dish was excellent, the garlic sauce was delicious and went well with the gyro meat and cheese tortellini. I highly recommend this place.

This place is excellent!! I'm always weary of large Greek restaurants because I feel they tend to be very Americanized. I was definitely proven wrong when we sta down to eat at Acropolis. We sat at the bar and were instantly welcomed by the friendly staff. We ordered some drinks and started checking out the extensive menu. We started with hummus, the true test of any Greek restaurant. When the hummus came, we were blown away by the flavor! I can't even describe how delicious it was, the seasoning was perfect and side of fresh pita bread was excellent. For the main entre, I ordered vegetarian pasta with gorgonzola sauce based on a recommendation from a former employee who was sitting next to us at the bar. The pasta was delicious, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. By the time we were done with our entree's, there was no room for desert, I would have loved to try some. After we finished our food, Doros, the owner, came by to ask about the dinner. He was one of the nicest restaurant owners I've ever met. Chatting with him really made the whole dining experience a joy! I will definitely be coming back here again to sample more of their delicious food, great atmosphere and staff. If you're looking for a great dining, this is the place to go!!

Was looking for something different from the extra-ordinary while in town on business and I think I found it at the Acropolis! The outside of the building is nice but it still doesn't do it justice because inside has you stepping into a Greek garden decor. Our friendly waitress Liv ( short for Olivia ) was kind and took her time describing the different dishes and delicious appetizer selections. We had an assortment that included dolmades, gyro meatballs & fillo classics - Yum! Then I treated myself to a beef kabob w/roasted potatoes and a Greek salad while the Mrs. had the pork oso bucco w/rice and green beans. Kudos to the chef for an excellent dinner! After asking to see a dessert menu, Liv "Blitzed" us like Troy Polamalu by bringing an entire tray of goodies! It was so tempting but because of the large meal, we ended up taking the baklava with us. We left very pleased & very full - Good job Liv & Acropolis!

Tried this place out last night and loved it. Our server was super nice and they offer a large variety of items that, if they aren't already vegetarian, you can have them made that way. The music was a little iffy unless you're into dance music while you eat, but the copious amounts of pita and dip they bring as soon as you sit down more than makes up for it. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they were sooo good-- will definitely be getting those the next time I go back. Also ordered: Greek salad (okay but nothing special and the dressing was kinda bland) and the vegetarian pasta (flavorful, yummy, and filling). Next time we go back we plan to check out the spanikopita. They also have falafels but you have to ask for them because they're not on the menu. Oopah! **Extra star added because it's in Evansville.

I was so excited for Greek when I came here, I think that my expectations were too high. It was snowing pretty bad so I got my food to go- probably mistake one on my part. I ordered dolmades and the gyro platter. Meh. I wasn't too keen on the marinara on the dolmades and the gyro was alright. (BOO! The tzatziki lid was loose and went EVERYWHERE!) It wasn't great, wasn't terrible, but it was the only Greek place I could find.

Disclaimer: Maybe I just liked the meal I ate here because my parents paid for it and because it involved copious amounts of wine, but I love Acropolis. We also don't really have much in the way of Greek cuisine here in San Francisco, so my Greek palate probably isn't very refined. Anyway, I had the spanikopita, which was delicious: nice and crispy phyllo with fresh, perfectly-spiced spinach. It could have used a bit more feta, in my opinion, but I have an unhealthy obsession with goat milk cheeses, so maybe the cheese would be just right for most other people. We ordered a platter of vegetarian dips, which were also delicious; they all tasted homemade, and again, the spices were perfect. Their tzatziki was especially noteworthy, and made a nice accompaniment to the spanikopita. They also have tasty Othello wine, which I hear is hard to come by stateside. Acropolis has a pleasant atmosphere. It's spacious, the servers are very nice, and it seems like a great place to take a date or a group of friends. If I ever again find myself in Evansville's massive suburban sprawl, I'll definitely eat at Acropolis.
