I went there last night after hearing great things about this place. It took forever to get our food, everyone's order was incorrect and there were bugs, both live and dead, all around the floor. I ordered a meal that was supposed to contain two items and beans as a side. I received one item and no beans. We ordered nachos without the guaca-salad and that request was completely ignored. My husband ordered a burrito that was advertised to have rice in it, and there was none. The waiter never asked us if we needed refills on our drinks and my meal came significantly later than the rest, with no explanation. I would like to think this was an isolated event but I'm never returning to find out. It wasn't even super busy and there was plenty of staff.

Second time at El Jefe. My go to restaurant when in the area on business. Living in California I have high standards. These folks really deliver. Taco platter with Al Pastor, carnitas and carne asada was fantastic. Staff is super friendly.

Awesome Mexican restaurant! My wife and I went here for the first time today. We enjoyed it very much and we're not even big fans of Mexican food. This place is so much better than any of those chain Mexican restaurants! As we looked over the menu our waiter brought us some chips & salsa. That salsa was excellent! I ordered beef Enchiladas Verdes with rice & beans. My wife ordered chicken Chimichangas with beans. Everything was very fresh and tasty! I had to try out their Fried Ice Cream for dessert, and I'm glad I did because it was delicious! This place was recommended by friends and I can see why because the food and service was excellent! People kept flocking into this place the whole time during our visit. The only thing I didn't like was that their restroom is only a one person restroom, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would recommend this place if you're looking for great Mexican food!

This place was good - nothing special but a good place to go. The service was good until the place was slammed with customers. The service was still there, but it definitely slowed down; I don't think they were ready for the amount of people that came in at once. I'll go back again when I'm in town since it's close and fairly priced.

El Jefe is the absolute best Mexican food I have had ever. Hands down the best restaurant in the Columbus area. Their serving sizes are huge at lunch, and even bigger at dinner. They have the BEST nachos, with onions, peppers, and loads of cheese. You can also get both steak and chicken, or one or the other. The service is super friendly, the place is very clean, the decorations are awesome! Check out the paintings when you go, they are beautiful. And the food is AMAZZZINNNGG! a++ I eat there every chance I get. The price is well worth the amount of food you get.

This is best Mexican food I have had since I left Texas. Portions are massive and the quality for the price is worth every penny. It's located a bit away from the outlet malls, but it destroys that chain restaurant garbage. Indiana is definitely not known for its Mexican cuisine, but this a definite exception to the rule. Also, great beer specials, and some of the most surprisingly unique and beautiful artwork decorates the walls and furniture. All around great experience in the heart of picturesque small town.

We stopped here on our way from Nashville to Chicago! I am so glad we did. It beats any of the random fast food chains along the way. We ordered their shrimp enchiladas. I went to my car, waited for ten minutes and it was prepared during that time. There were three enchiladas with lots of cheese, beans and Spanish rice. It also came with free chips and salsa. Overall, a great meal to share between two people for $12. :) We might stop by here on the way back again!

I always visit El Jefe when I am in the Edinburgh area. Great food, served promptly, large portions, and a friendly staff...and if you are thirsty big margaritas or giant drafts at a very reasonable price. Good selection of 'no substitutions allowed' standard plates for under $10. If you go for lunch, expect it to be crowded.

I would give it 5 stars, but is against my Mexican yelping principal. Great margaritas!

The lunch specials here are pretty damn awesome. If you're stuck in Trafalgar during your lunch hour I would most definitely recommend this place (because there really isn't all that much else to choose from anyways!). Mi Jefe (or is it El Jefe? - I've seen signs for both!) has your typical Mexican spread, free chips, and salsa, lunch specials, etc. I would recommend the veggie fajitas, they are heavenly! Super fast service, clean, and great food!

Simply great Mexican food, served in what looks to have been a former gas station, with some interesting "festive decor." Definitely five stars for El Jefe. I came here last year and was very impressed. So much so that I wanted to come back again to El Jefe this year as soon as I could. I brought along some coworkers and we ended up eating here three days in a row. They told others and they kept returning also. The food is excellent, the service as well, and the margaritas are delicious and just strong enough. Large portions served piping hot. All said and done it's reasonably priced, practically cheap, good tasting Mexican food. I'm not so sure about the town of Edinburgh but El Jefe is a great reason to visit when in the Columbus area. If I am back next year (we'll see) I look forward to eating again at El Jefe.

Not a local in this part of the US, but a colleague whose been here before suggested it for lunch. Best advice ever. Nothing was plain, from the salsa, to the hot sauces, and the main courses were spectacular. This place could be the best "Mexican" food I've heaved had. South of the Border comfort food and then some. If you've never been, go now. Don't think, just go. You won't regret it.

So many options - it was hard to choose, but we did. Portions were generous, service was friendly and attentive without being rushed. Everyone was more than happy with their meals. We will be sure to go back again when we're in the area - much better than the chain options down by the outlet mall.

This is a great little Mexican Eatery. I suggest you go here for lunch and get the #41. I sincerely doubt that you'll be disappointed. The place is always clean and inviting (just prepare yourself for all the bright colors and weird pictures along the top of the wall). The wait staff is really friendly and they'll work with you as much as they can to transform your order to match your preferences.

Absolute best and cheap Mexican food around! I could drink their salsa. Don't let the location scare you, as downtown Edinburgh has sketchy street cred. The owner is awesome!

Always fantastic food. Extremely friendly wait staff that recognize all of their regulars. My parents have gone weekly since they opened and the variety never gets old for them. El jefe is a must every time I come home.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
