After hiking Trail 8 at Brown County State Park, Chad and I headed out looking for a bite to eat and came across this little place. It was almost 9 pm but thankfully they close on 10 on Sundays. The interior was had a sports vibe to it, with a family-friendly feeling. We chose to sit at a bar table do Chad could watch the football (Giants/Cowboys?) game. Our server was the bartender and he was totally on-point. We ordered tall beers; me, a Blue Moon and Chad, Sam Adams Octoberfest (yum). Dinner for me was the Papa Burger with fries ($9.99) and Chad got Harry's Fish and Chips ($9.99). My burger was perfectly cooked, had fresh veg, shredded lettuce (loved that. old skool), and melty cheese. Fries were perfect too. Chad's fish had a really good seasoned hand breading. The portion was large so it was a great value. Really enjoyed the cole slaw too. Great end to a fantastic day. Thanks Papa's Grill! We'll be back.

Excellent service!! Good food!! Bison burger is awesome!!! (Order it medium) Real gem in the middle of Midwest!

During our visit to Columbus we were looking for a spot for a late lunch and close to our hotel. Papa's Grill is a small establishment with a clean and no frills atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt. The food was served hot, tasted fresh and delicious. The Grilled Salmon Salad - a mix of greens topped with a grilled salmon fillet, bleu cheese crumbles, sweet dried cranberries, tomatoes and red onions served with poppy seed dressing - not a bite left on the plate and the Black Bean Burger - a spicy veggie black bean burger on a grilled bun with shredded lettuce and chipotle ranch - very tasty. The menu is a bar/pub menu with everything from appetizers to a wide variety of sandwiches/burgers and entrees. Anyone who may be passing through Columbus this is the place to stop for lunch.

Just popped in for a quick salad. Grilled chicken salad comes topped with fried onion straws on top. A little different, but a nice touch. Salad was good, service was nice and friendly and kept our drinks full.

We have been eating at Papa's Grill for many years and we are always delighted with the food and service. Most recently, we went in for dinner and I had the Ribeye Steak and my friend had the Grill Cheese Dunkers. The Ribeye was cooked exactly medium and was very tender. The baked potato was fresh and very good. The Dunkers came with what appeared to be two grilled cheese sandwiches and a huge bowl of soup. My friend chose the tomato soup and he said that it was very filling. The beer selection is very extensive and it wasn't an easy decision choosing our beer for the evening. The server was attentive and friendly and he was able to answer any questions we had about the menu. If you find yourself in Columbus Indiana, you owe it to yourself to eat at Papa's Grill.

This is a gem!! I visited Papa's Grill on a business trip, and I have to say the food was AMAZING! Great flavor, great service, and Dewayne was the best server ever. He created a dessert that is similar to a flat beignet topped with cinnamon sugar and vanilla ice cream... I could eat just that forever if it didn't kill me. I WILL be going back on my next trip, regardless how far I have to travel to get there.

My wife said she wanted "pub food" tonight and in my house, pub food = good beer. So yeah... Papa's Grill is hard to beat on a Friday night. It is far enough away from the downtown scene that you won't run into downtown's "finest" but there is still a great selection if beers and wonderfully deep fried appetizers. We were told to expect a 25 minute wait but were seated within 15. Our server was juggling tables like a pro. Our food was delivered to the table perfectly and our oddball requests were fulfilled right away. Who in the world asks for buffalo sauce with a spoon? We do! There was a line out the door but not a single patron left in a huff. High praise for a restaurant on this side of town. The food is great, service is great, and the beer selection is broad. Papa's is one of my favorites and I've never had a bad experience here. I only gave it 4 stars because the atmosphere/decor could use an update. Otherwise, Papa's is the cream of the crop. Get you some!

I consider myself a regular at Papa's Grill. The food is excellent, Jody and Dustin are a good combination behind the bar.. I always say, you can pretty easily judge the food of a restaurant by seeing how full the parking lot is.. And as a fellow tenant with Papa's Grill, they always keep the parking lot full.

  • Allison F.

Papas is a hidden gem in Colombus! Excellent staff and service. Sit in the bar and meet Dustin. He is one goofy character, but will keep you entertained for hours. Not only is the service great, but the food is amazing! Great daily specials and the staff will help you decide what to order. If you're in the area, this is the place to go!

  • Kevin K.

Go to the bar and see Jody, you wont go wrong. He juggles the chaos of the counter with incoming to go order and the need to support the wait staff for the restaurant and handles it with a cool ease that I wish every bartender had for their bar. I've now been back several times and sat in the restaurant AND bar area. The food is consistent and higher quality than any other restaurant on the 46 corridor west of downtown Columbus. The burgers are very good quality and the wraps are awesome. I've hit 30+ restaurants in Columbus on my business travels and Jody and his team are in the top 3 for the area. American food, high quality, consistency, great service - combined, this place is a winner. If you want white table cloths, snooty atmosphere, attitude - go elsewhere. You want a place to make a friend, have a nice conversation at the person sitting next to you - GO TO PAPA'S GRILL! Do it, you wont regret it.

One of our favorite places to eat. Always easy to get seated and served. Friendly atmosphere with many excellent food choices. My favorites include Harry's Fish and Chips or the Rib Eye steak. The fish is served with a light and crispy batter and the portions are very large (usually take home a piece or two.) Patsy's desserts are outstanding (especially the pineapple upside down cake.)

  • S P.

"how messed up can the service be?" hopefully it's not like this for everyone.... thursday night, sometime in the winter. started a stopwatch to see how long it would take to get service... beer was ok. atmosphere was really depressing and there was no music. bison burger looked like it was made from a frozen patty. tasted funny. ate half. nobody came to check on my food. waited another 10 minutes after i asked for the check, server avoided eye contact. not memorable at all. i don't understand the following this place has. an off night? maybe... but when the server starts to clean all areas around you forcing you to move your feet without asking anything about your food, why give anything more than one star?

Love Papas' Grill! Feels like family here. Fantastic efficient service, relaxed atmosphere with many fresh home-style delicious dishes to choose from! When asked, the staff shared travel tips & even saved us a trip to the bank by exchanging our dollars for cents for the Nashville parking meters. +Clean restrooms ! Overall great experience much better than fast food! Five stars from Chicago!

Good food, good prices, clean, and kid-friendly, all positive things when you're passing thru town on a long road trip. Wish there were more places like this for us traveling families!

Best place in town! Excellent Grilled Cheese Dunkers and Tomato Soup! The crew is always friendly and takes wonderful care of their customers!

Have had dinner twice here while working in Columbus, the menu is pretty dull. Only reason I'm giving it a 3 star is because Tuesdays they have half off a bottle of wine which I find to be awesome.

  • Sara S.

This place is awesome! Stopped in based on Yelp reviews and was definitely not disappointed. Food was great, service quick and friendly. Bison burger was juicy, buffalo chicken wrap was perfect and the homemade strawberry cake....OMG! Will be back next trip thru.

  • Lobstah L.

Visiting Columbus and this place had good reviews but OMG, everything is frozen and bland. May be great for the locals since every other restaurant around is chain fast food or a flurry of Mexican restaurants. Those jalapeno cheese balls were frozen processed plastic tasting cheese. Regretted going. Stick with the Mexican places in Columbus, at least they're fresh.

  • Dean K.

The fries are great and there is a wide variety of seating types(high/low/moderate). The menu is ok, but potions on some of the items seem small for the price. Wait staff didn't bring out all beverages ordered and couldn't perform a no onion request for the fajitas. The amount of chicken on the fajitas was a joke. If I were to go again I would get a burger as they appeared to be the thing done properly here.

  • Igor L.

Came in for lunch during the weekday, reasonable prices but I feel that portions could be bigger. I tried their Reuben Wrap, the meat tasted fresh and overall it was good, fries are something to definitely try as well as the tomato soup (seems its their specialty) Overall it's a good place but the menu could use revising, too many restaurants serving the same type of food and it all clashes together.

    (3)
  • Sara C.

Everything is tasty here. I like the burgers but have ventured out trying the fish and chips and most recently the chicken fajita pita. It was absolutely amazing. Very fresh! Service can be slow at times, but nothing terrible or unreasonable. I will definitely return.

  • Doug B.

I love the fries. Excellent Reubens. I also like the Columbus connection if you are in the mood to be kind to cows chickens and pigs.

  • Abby D.

Food is great (try their bison burger or spinach chef salad with hot bacon dressing...the bistro salad is awesome too). Atmosphere is ok - the bar is pretty nice but small. Outdoor seating which we use weather permitting. Service is always really really good - makes a huge difference in how you feel about a place. Oh and their fries are the best fries in town. Thanks!

  • Jackie M.

Love this place. The food is excellent. There's not a lot of seating in the bar area but well worth the wait to sit there. The bartenders are great and very humorous.

  • Adrienne G.

I love this place. Every time I go home to Columbus, I make a trip here. The wraps are amazing as well as the chicken salad sandwich and the french fries are to die for! They also have burgers and other sandwiches. The servers are always friendly and the service is prompt! The restaurant is always clean and when it is warm outside the outside dining is great! Would definately recommend this place for anyone!

Went in to try this one for first time with my partner yesterday. It was a good lunch experience. Our waitress - Sarah - was cheery, knew all the items on the menu when asked, was helpful with suggestions and attentive the entire time we were there even as it was getting busier with a fuller lunch crowd. We started out with Fried Pickle Chips and they were great - crispy and the chipotle ranch dip they were served with was not so overpowering as to take away from the pickle chips like it does at many other places. Partner had their Bistro Top End Sandwich with fries - toasted bun with appr. 4oz beef medallion cooked to order which is cut into strips, covered with a nice amount of melted cheddar (not smothered in cheese), A-1 steak sauce, and topped with onion straws that were just a little sweet and not strong and biting. He said the meat was tender and juicy and sandwich was good ( awesome news from someone as picky as he can be ). The fries were slightly seasoned making them just different enough for a great side. I had the special of the day which was the Peppercorn Chicken Wrap with fries - grilled chicken breast, spinach leaves, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and avocado slices topped with a Parmesan peppercorn ranch dressing all wrapped up with a spinach wrap. When it came out the first thing I noticed was the bright green color of the tortilla style wrap which was fresh and pliable and easy to handle and not overly chewy so it did nothing to distract from the rest of wrap but it did make for a nice contrast when plate was presented. With so many items in wrap I was worried but it all blended well. We considered it a great meal at a decent price comparable to our usual lunch time haunts and will definitely be going back again to try more dishes. We were impressed enough with our server that we will also be asking for Sarah to take care of us when we go back. The only thing we had any issue with was that we would have preferred more fried pickles for the price of the appetizers. That would be the complaint we had about the dining experience.

I came in near closing, so there was some cleaning going on. Sat in the bar in the back and had a quick salad and entree, both of which were good. For under 20$ I give this experience a good rating. I left full and happy. Quick and easy from the hotels and much better than a chain.

I might have given it a 3&1/2 if that was possible, but I bumped it up b/x everyone else really enjoyed their meal. Mine was fair. The restaurant was very clean & service was excellent. My husband enjoyed his Reuben and the kids liked their burgers & popcorn shrimp. I tried the Chicken Fajita Pita. It was not bad, but could have been more flavorful and more full of chicken & veggies. I was expecting the filling to be large chunks of chicken like you might get in a fajita, but everything was finally chopped. The bread:filler ratio was just a bit off. The onion rings were tasty, but needed salt. We also enjoyed the fried pickles, but I think I might prefer fried pickle chips to spears. The kids thought the french fries were "awesome". The servings were generous and I as I was watching the other customer's plates be delivered, I noticed everything looked like a good size portion and was plated nicely. I just wish my dish had a little more flavor. If we are driving down I-65 near Columbus at mealtime, we would definitely give this place a try again. Next time I will ask the waiter what the most popular dishes are.

I had to laugh walking into this place: another review on Yelp describes it as an Applebees without the cheesy junk nailed to the wall. That about captures it. Aside from the benign interior decorating, Papa's Grill didn't disappoint. I ordered a Bison Burger and my wife the fish sandwich. Both came with fries--exactly the right sort of fries. Crispy, perfectly browned, and delicious. The Bison Burger was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the thickness and the flavor profile of the bacon combined with the bison (which if you've never had it, is like lean beef with a bit more of a 'wild' flavor--like very good "corn fed" venison). I tried my wife's fish and it was also very well prepared and tasty (some sort of innocuous white fish. Might have been pollock. Definitely not cod). This place also has some nice(r) beers on tap including Shiner Bock and seasonal Belgian ales. I'm not a huge Fat Tire guy, but many seem to love it--they have that on tap as well. Our server greeted us with a smile, cracked a few jokes, and generally made us feel comfortable as we enjoyed our meal. Bottom line: This place is a good value and has good food. If they spiced up the interior a bit, they'd really rock.

Loved this place! Took a chance on it while passing through town and found a gem. I had the cajun blue burger but with the bison patty. Cooked perfect and great flavor mix. Fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside. Friendly, fast and attentive service. Highly recommend this place for a casual place to grab a great simple meal.

Great place for food and service! My hubby and I came an hour before close this past Sat. We were on our way home (Chicago) from KY and we were starving but I refuse to get fast food! So we told them we were in a hurry and starving and they wasted no time! We ordered the pepper cheese balls which were amazing and we both got a burger, he had hot tea and I had a Mr. Pibb. Our drinks were refilled before we were even partially finished with them. The burgers were delicious and we were both thoroughly stuffed before we got back on the road. I am happy to say that the final meal we had before getting back to home was delicious, hot, and fast. I will definitely come here again since we go to KY at least twice a year.

Rolled into Papa's on a hint from a local coworker. Liz and I immediately were seated in a bright and clean dining room and enjoyed the Shiner bock draft almost immediately. Great slection of draft beers, as well as a private bar area seemed a respectable layout for a small family owned joint in a strip mall. Nice solid menu offered many options and we chose a few favorites, to be surprised by the speed and plating. While the tab for two meals and four beers was a bit pricey, we will return.

I went to PaPa's via Yelp. I was passing thru Columbus at lunch time and found this place. I was seated right away and the hostess was very friendly. My waitress was helpful and knowledgable of their menu. My food arrived, bison burger and fries, and was very tasty, no complaints. My glass of water was always full as she checked on me almost too much. Overall I woould say that PaPa's is a good place to eat and I would go back.

Personally, I think this is one of the best places in Columbus to eat dinner. The wait staff when I have been is always extremely friendly and helpful, and they check on you regularly. The food is excellent, especially the fries. These are probably my all-time favorite french fries. My favorite meal is the Bison Burger and fries, although the menu is full of excellent choices.

I have been going to this joint since it opened up in 2008. Well worth your time. Try the Bison Burger (I like it with mushroom and swiss) or the Grilled cheese dunkers and cheesey tomato soup. Yum! Wait staff is tops!

Nothing like a chilly fall evening in the Midwest to make me want to hunker down for the night with a big slab of meat squeezed between a pair of buns. I ordered up my Diablo burger ($7.95) ready to get down to business... a beef patty laced with jalapeno jack, jalapenos and hot wing sauce. After an eternity waiting - and I'm not being sarcatic... it took forever for our order to arrive - my medium rare burger arrived somewhat cool and on the well done side of medium rare. Clearly the kitchen and the front of the house have some coodination issues to work out. But back to the burger... Ignoring the aforementioned issues, the burger was greasy tasty good. As if sliced jalapenos weren't good enough, the good folks in the kitchen decided a quick trip through the deep fryer was in order for our little peppers. Deep fried spicy nuggets of love I tell ya. Overall, an ok burger. Lots of room for improvement but leaps ahead of the nearby White Castle. Service was slow, borderline none existant. My mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say... The wrap up on this one? Better than a stick in the eye and a belly full of dirt.

have now eaten here several times - on each occasion, service has been slow, really really really slow. today for example, walked in aroudn 11:15 for an early lunch. only people at two or three other tables. even so, it took maybe 8 or 10 min for a waitress to even take our drink order. Once our order was placed, it took another 10 or 15 min for the food to appear - how long does it take to warm up a slice of meatloaf anyway? sadly, this is not the exception, but the rule in on our experience. the food itself is good - diner fare mostly - sandwiches, the aforementioned meatloaf, etc. - with reasonable lunchtime portions (haven't eaten dinner here, so don't know if the portions grow to more dinner proportions later in the day). there are better local restaurants (smith's row, bistro 310, etc.) and even the chains give this place a run in terms of food quality, quantity, and service (bob evans comes to mind - frankly just as tasty, bigger portions, and faster service - and that's bob evans which shouldn't be to hard to beat).

I love this place, please don't come on Friday night. I don't like to wait for a table

  • Brian D.

I have to disagree with the previous reviews - I ordered a salad, in a vane attempt to eat healthy. My salad was covered in 'Onion straws' which are broken onion rings and the thinnest breaded piece of chicken I ever saw. I suppose I was expecting grilled chicken, but the chicken was so thin, I couldn't scrape the breading off before I broke through the other side. The piles of bacon bits were good, but didn't help my attempt to eat healthy. Anyway, all in all, not what I was expecting, the service was slow and was checked on once in 30 minutes. I'll go somewhere else if I'm back in the area.

This my new favorite place in Columbus, IN. I had the pork BBQ. I can't wait to get back there so I can try everything else on the menu!!! The food is great and the prices are reasonable. It just doesn't get any better than that. You have got to try this place.

Went with coworkers and we were all very pleased with our meals. I had tomato soup with grilled cheese dippers-it really hit my spot! The grilled cheese was perfectly cooked and gooey, then cut up into strips to be dipped in the soup. It was like a grown up kids meal. We also shared fried mushrooms (straight out of the bag from Sysco), someone had a salad, and 2 people had burgers. The burgers were all good-bison and cow are both available. The salad appeared very fresh and colorful. Not a lot of "healthy" items on the menu, but if you read the menu carefully and ask them to leave certain things off or on the side, you can definitely modify to suit your needs. Cute little spot right off I-65.

Highly recommend! American Grill with nice clean interior and not loud. Very Pleasant. The fries are crisp and delicious as was the fish. The chicken wrap was just right with a creative wrap (and not all bready.) we will remember this spot when we visit the area again.

4 stars for consistent offerings. Charcoal grilled meats and fish with freshly prepared veggies is a nice break from all of the fast food restaurants in this area. Not that I have anything against heavy metal music but during my recent lunch visit listening to "I Hate Everything about You" by Three Days Grace was an odd choice given the clientele and Bistro like atmosphere.

I was looking for a place to stop and get a great meal on our trip. Saw the reviews for Papa's Grill and decided to I've it a try. The proximity to the interstate was a plus. The food was good. We all enjoyed our dinners. My wife raved about the split pea soup. I had the bison burger which I have to say I have had better but it was still good. The staff was very good. We were seated and served promptly and everyone seemed to enjoy their work. I'd say give this place a try if you get the chance.

Columbus' hidden treasure! Great local night out, or stop off from I-65. Awesome pub food, great service, reasonable prices and good portions. Bison burger and medallion steak sandwich are excellent!

This is a good solid family run restaurant with a good wait staff, decent food, and a full bar with daily beer specials. As a plus, they have a daily special before 6:30 PM of all appetizers at a significantly reduced price. The menu is small, but I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. There are multiple large screen TVs that have most NFL games on Sunday. Good solid place. Nothing fancy, but solid.
