The wife and I (and the puppy) love coming here. It's become a bit of a tradition to head over to Town Hall Park for a long walk and then treat ourselves to a bit of ice cream at Frost Bite. This is just one of those great little places that has to be insanely busy after a high school football game. We've been here a few times and always had a good experience. They have the typical ice cream shoppe items - shakes, malts, sundaes, blizzard knockoffs, and some food items. As lots of others have said, the cup sizes are very generous. I didn't realize this my first time and got a medium Frost. Wow. It was the size of a large at DQ! So just keep that in mind when you order. We also ordered some onion rings once and they were good too - nothing special, but good. But I'm not really here for the food anyway... just the ice cream! The also have little puppy cups they give you if you want one for your dog. Our little guy LOVES this. He scarfs his down in seconds and then begs for more. It's a really nice touch and makes this a great place for us to come with him after a walk in the park. Plus, the last time we were here, the owner (clearly a fellow dog lover) came out to meet our puppy and give him a few treats. He was very friendly and great to talk to. This was definitely a nice personal touch that will keep us coming back. So, overall, Frost Bite is a great little local place with a menu that covers all the basics, decent prices, and a friendly staff. What puts this place over the top for me is the abundant patio seating and dog-friendly atmosphere. We will continue to come here with our puppy and I know that all three of us will have a great time.

I feel a little bad. My husband and I have probably driven by this place hundreds of times over the last few years and never made an effort to try it. As the weather warmed, we made that effort one weekend. Glad we did, all of the recommendations were right, this place is very good! Big thanks to the random guy who was there when we were who gave us the tip that the "small" frost is bigger than you would expect. He was definitely right. We decided to give those a try even though the nice guy mentioned that pretty much everything was good. Only complaint is mine [but not my husband's] was more melted when I first got it than I would have expected [see pic, I had mint chocolate chip], not a huge deal but it seemed a bit odd that they were different. Almost forgot, tons of your selected mix-ins in these frosts too! It was a little more windy than we would have liked to eat outside so we took ours home but they have an assortment of tables. We'll definitely be back, sorry for ignoring you so long, Frost Bite.

I was driving up 267 from the southern side of Avon around 11:45 and was like "Holy sweet frozen deliciousness! And it's lunch time!!" I pulled in, parked the car, and prepared to be frost bitten for the first time. I ordered a chili cheese dog and a cookie dough Freeze. The dog was really yummy! It was a sizable tube steak, not those finger-width ones you find at most places. There were NO ONIONS in the chili, a huge plus for me as onions are my main food nemesis (along with lettuce). There was plenty of dough and chocolate chips in the Freeze and even though I ordered "small," it was a pretty good serving of ice cream. Which brings me 'round to this: real, creamy, yummy, vanilla flavored dairy ice cream, NOT your bland run-of-the-mill soft serve. Service was very quick. My total for lunch was $8.04 which I thought "Wow-that's expensive for a hot dog and ice cream" until I saw that the portion sizes were larger than I had anticipated. There are picnic tables with umbrellas at the front of the place OR you can dine on a covered patio with tables and chairs at the back. The drive-thru speaker is cleverly obscured by a large shrub so people aren't gawking at you. I was impressed that when the drive-thru line reached 4 cars, a girl came out the back door with a chocolate soft-serve cone and delivered it to the car at the end of the line, "Here's your chocolate cone, ma'am." She took the lady's payment and hustled inside for change. She was smiling and pleasant the entire time. There are pretty flowers planted all around the property. I'll definitely visit the Frost Bite a few more times this summer!

Their waffle cones are awesome! They are dipped in chocolate and heaped with ice cream! Yum! I have never had anything there but ice cream, so I can't comment on other food.

Classic ice cream place. Everything we had was very good. Mint shake was amazing. There were lots of classic cars in the parking lot. The place was quite busy between the walk up and the drive through. Looks like a busy place. Both good and ice cream were good.

I've lived in the Avon area on toward Indy for many years now. I've seen this place on my jaunts out to Plainfield or Danville, so I decided to give it a go. I am in LOVE with their Frosts (which are Blizzards in DQease). I ordered a medium and it is insanely huge, so I would recommend a small. The price of their food and ice-cream is insanely reasonable. I got a Frost and a cone for around $5.00 -- way cheaper than any other place. The ice-cream they use tastes awesome. It is a random reference, but I am originally from Moline, Illinois -- and this place is the closest thing to a Whitey's Ice Cream I have ever found! Eating at Frostbite makes me feel like I'm back in my hometown. I've never tried the burgers, fries, etc. but they look pretty delicious so I would give it a try if it were lunch-time. Frostbite is great in my book for the excellent flavor, the value for the money, and the fact that it is one of those small, locally owned places (so much better than the large chain places).

It's delicious and local! This is some of the best ice cream base I have had in Indy, definitely the best in the Avon area. The Frost Bite will definitely take you back to your childhood. If you grew up in a small town like me, you relish the summer nights when you could drive to your local ice cream shop, walk up to the window, and everyone ate in the parking lot. This place will definitely resurface those memories. Their frosts (Blizzard equivalent for all you DQ fans) are fantastic. The prices are cheap for the size. A medium frost is a large most places. The sundaes and milkshakes are awesome too. Insider tip...order a cheesecake frost with your choice of fruit topping = greatness. Next time skip the DQ and give the Frost Bite a shot.

I agree that Frost Bite is better than Dairy Queen. They have great choices for ice-cream and a nice menu if you want want a hotdog, tenderloin, you name it. The small frost is almost the size of a large blizzard! The cookie dough and the cheesecake frost are excellent! Real cookie dough and a real slice of cheesecake are placed on top of the frost. Local business that's great and not a franchise.

Frost Bite has been around for a long time. I've been a fan for years. The service is always friendly and pleasant. Everything is always amazing. Make sure you get a bag of Frosty bars to take home with you and keep in the freezer. They will even double dip them for you if you ask! The food is always cooked to order and fresh and the tenderloins are huge. If you visit you will enjoy!

I just LOVE local I've cream stands like this one! I had one in my home town (or at least the neighboring town) and nothing tastes better than eating ice cream outside on a hot summer day. As a kid or an adult! This place, I noticed, serves some nice food options as well. I intend to come back to try the breaded tenderloin. It smelled amazing. Anyway, it's a walk up window where you order. Husband got a strawberry milk shake I got a hot fudge and strawberry sunday. There are umbrella shaded tables and we decided to stay and enjoy our treat there. The quality of the ice cream was really good and really hit the spot on a hot day. I look forward to bringing my kids here through the summer!

Good amount of choices but it seems to be a standard ice cream/shake place. Nothing really differentiates between ice cream/shake places.

  • Sabrina R.

Love this place. It's definitely my go to for ice cream in the Avon area. I feel it's comparable in price to other places and all their frozen treat selections are delicious. My one complaint is lately that the frosts have been " soupy" compared to the usual thick ice cream mixture: not sure why that is BUT they taste good regardless.

    (5)
  • John L.

Infinitely better than Dairy Queen. I look forward to this place every summer. The ice cream is smooth and delicious and the mix ins for their blizzard counterparts are decent sized, not smashed into dust.

Amazing ice cream! The strawberry cheesecake frost is the best !!! I NEVER go to Dairy Queen anymore. The fried zucchini is also yummy!!!

I came across this place taking the scenic route from Eagle Creek one day, and I have to say that the Ice Cream here is delicious. Far better than the typical Diary Queen fare. I 100% recommend this.

Really disappointed with Frost Bite. It used to be GREAT - the frost was the best, hands down, drive the extra 10 minutes out of the way because the other chain ice cream places don't live up to them. However, the last 3 visits have resulted in less than good frosts - most of the time the add ins are only about 1/2 way through the cup. No huge chunks of it draped on top like before. Here is the kicker though - went there tonight - place was packed. Tons of families waiting for orders - lots of kids - little ones excited and waiting for ice cream. They were terribly understaffed, it was taking over 10 minutes to get out the orders. Then two middle aged people walk up, knock on the window, the owner comes over, greets them (obviously knew them) and proceeds to make their orders. They didn't wait in line to order, they didn't wait to get their food and every little kid waiting patiently just looked at them like "how come they get to cut." Then the owner didn't bother to stay upfront and help the obviously overwhelmed workers - he walked out back and had a seat. The ice cream, no matter how good, isn't worth me supporting that type of poor customer service. Orange Leaf frozen yogurt - here I come.

Was disappointed by the time we spent waiting in line. It took a while for the 3 cars ahead of us to get their treats and when we pulled up to the window we had to of waited 3-4 minutes for the kid to receive our payment, an additional 3-4 minutes to get our drinks, and then I don't know how long we waited to get our food but an angry patron behind us angrily shook their head and threw their hands up as they sped off. I can't say I won't ever return, but I won't be visiting if it's busy, that's for sure.

Oh man, I just moved to Avon and the Frost Bite is near my home. The food is delish! Great breaded tenderloins, fried zucchini, onion rings, breaded mushrooms and fries. Don't go here if you're looking for something lite, people. ... but do go here if you're looking for something GOOD and ask them to mix chocolate into your peanut butter shake. It's simply the best.

The ice cream is good quality. However the mix ins are a little skimpy. I ordered the cheesecake blizzard (they called it something else). Besides the large cheesecake portion on top, the ice cream lacked anything else cheesy. A little disappointed, especially for the price paid, but it was good quality ice cream. I suppose you're supposed to ask for extra mix ins? I'm a milkshake (blizzard) fanatic, and most places do put substantial mix ins in the blizzard for you (Dairy Queen, Steak and Shake, even McDonalds). This place will be like a visit once a year on a hot sunny day kind of place.

Good stuff! They advertise the best shakes in town and they do not dissappoint. My chocolate ice cream cone featured some pretty intense chocolate flavor. The ice cream was so dark in chocolate color that it almost seemed black in against the night light! The strawberry shake was not too thick, but just thick enough to be sinful. I will try to make this regular stop from now on.

so we accidentally drove past here a few days ago and thought i bet that will be really good. so this afternoon since the weather was so nice we decided to go here for lunch. we ordered 2 burgers and one fry and one onion ring. with 2 drinks. $20 my first clue that we were not in for something good is that there is no smell of food cooking. cheap quality frozen stuff straight off a SYSCO truck if we are lucky. they have seating up front where you order and then more seating in the back. we opted to sit in the back since it had more room and shade. they can see you sitting out there but do you think that they brought our food to us no they sat it up on the counter and continued socializing with one another until finally we went up and asked for our food. of course i dont think anyone working there was an adult so to be expected i guess. so we choked down our dried out frozen burgers and was certain we would be in for a real treat when it came time for dessert since that is what they are known for right? well i dont know where everyone else who has raved and reviewed this place has been eating ice cream from but they know nothing about ice cream i assure you. we ordered two medium (their version of the blizzard) one with snickers and the other with snickers and cheesecake. they dont blend any of the ingredients up into the ice cream so what it looked like was a cup of vanilla ice cream with two chunks of snicker bar on top and in mine it was one chunk of snicker bar and one chunk of cheesecake about the size of cubed cheese. for that we paid 8 bucks. absolutely not impressed at all. this may have been a hot spot once upon a time but it certainly is not now. and i am not a fan of dairy queen at all but to those that said this was better than dairy queen are sadly mistaken. i so wanted to like this because i prefer mom and pop places and the smaller chains but this one here is a flop. this here is nothing more than a mix they pour into a machine just like all the other places like dairy queen does. if you ever get out to missouri look up a place called Andy's custard. and there you will find the best ice cream and concrete in the world probably. they have one in branson missouri and a few in springfield mo. so to recap we got 2 burgers two fries and 2 drinks and 2 medium ice creams and this cost us 29 bucks. i could have done lots better and cheaper at dairy queen or sonic.

little expensive but the best apple pie frosty I have ever had!!! They also give out free pup cups for your doggie

Really like this place. Their old fashion sodas are my favorite! My son loves the brownie sundae. I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck, especially compared to prices/quantities at dairy queen and cold stone.

so we accidentally drove past here a few days ago and thought i bet that will be really good. so this afternoon since the weather was so nice we decided to go here for lunch. we ordered 2 burgers and one fry and one onion ring. with 2 drinks.

Really like this place. Their old fashion sodas are my favorite! My son loves the brownie sundae. I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck, especially compared to prices/quantities at dairy queen and cold stone.

The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and nobody beats the banana splits. Even on a Sunday night, the place was hopping (a sure sign of its popularity) and everyone was all smiles. Picking up some ice cream and enjoying it at a local park was a great way to end a fantastic weekend.
