Move over, Real Ha, this is Anderson's best Mexican. Scratch that, this is my favorite Mexican restaurant of all the 4 cities I've lived in. Great food, big portions, and the wonderful queso smothered Mexican that Midwesterners and South easterners enjoy. For some reason, AU students gravitate to Real Hacienda, so El Maguey is the best kept secret in town. Quiet, never very crowded, but excellent.

This is great Mexican for this locale. The service was pretty lackluster, but everything that was served was super delicious. Carne asada meat was a little tough, but overall the dish was delicious. My parents had the fajita quesadilla and said it was some of the best they'd ever had. The chicken fajita nachos looked good, but we were all too full to eat them. Big portion and warm food. Definitely a good place for some decent Mexican food if you're in Anderson.

Food is decent not sure if it's authentic but still good none the less. Sweet tea is good bit they use a different style of ground beef for tacos but still not bad.

This place is really good! Everything was hot and fresh and amazing. This is what you look for when you want Mexican food. The fajita taco salad was full of chicken and had yummy vegetables cooked perfectly, the chimichanga was perfect. Only complaint was the service was kind of inattentive when it started to get busy and there was stuff we needed but could t get anyone's attention. But overall food was delicious.

Never had a meal I didn't like. I frequent at least twice a month. Definitely a great (sometimes awkwardly) quiet alternative to Real Hacienda/Riviera Maya. Staff is always friendly and very timely. Lunch seating is almost immediate. Never have had to wait for table. Especially love the Pico de Gallo. And when mixed with the salsa, look out! Perfect for large groups during the lunch hour.

There are not many great Mexican places in Anderson, but this is probably one of the better ones. The food is good, and the spicy dishes can make you sweat. It has the cheesy decor that I've come to expect in midwestern Mexican restaurants. So it gets a solid 3 stars as best among the average. I'm planning to go back so we'll see if this place grows on me...

Was a very clean place to enjoy lunch. Service was very friendly and fast. Food was fresh and fast. Not to mention the food was right on. The chips and salsa was fresh and hot. If you want it hot and spicy ask them. All the way to the Fried Ice Cream for desert... Priced very well. Thank you Luis for the fabulous dining!

Restaurant is family owned, staff is very friendly. The food was excellent, loved the Arroz con pollo! The margaritas were refreshing and hit the spot.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
