The New Albanian on Bank Street is one of my favorite watering holes located north of Louisville. They currently have 17 craft beers on tap so at least one of them has got to make you go, "Ahhhh....".

I appreciate Bank Street Brewery as a restaurant as well as a proponent of New Albany's downtown. This location and its owner have been fairly instrumental in shaping the way that the area has undergone a renaissance as of late. First, the restaurant. The drinks are excellent. Along with the full selection of New Albanian craft brews (which I'll put against anything in the region), Bank Street offers a full bar for cocktails. If you ever get the opportunity to hear Roger, the owner, discuss what goes into brewing, take it. It is fascinating. The food is very good. I don't think I'd throw around words like "amazing" or "phenomenal," but it is good. Bank Street doesn't offer pizza like its sister location, but treads more on the entree side of the ledger. I typically get the Croque Madame and fries. If you get fries, try the lavender oil. Deceptively good. The restaurant layout is convertible depending on the season. There is, of course, the main bar/seating area which can be opened up to the front patio seating (which allows dogs) in warmer months. The large windows at the back look onto the brewing equipment and copper lines, letting you know where your beer came from. There is also "The Reading Room" with plush couches and shorter tables which give a more laid back environment. This area opens up (in warmer times) to the side patio with even more seating. The patio area also plays host to live music, Fringe Fest, during New Albany's Harvest Homecoming. You will probably spot the New Albanian logo at local events. Be sure to stop by and grab one of the best beers in the area and support local brewing and a mainstay of the downtown resurgence.
I tried to stop in for dinner and found a handwritten sign on the door advising that they are no longer serving any food at all. I was hungry, not looking to get wasted, so I left. Even if I wanted to drink I wouldn't ever sit and drink without at least a substantial appetizer so I won't be back.

I have a feeling my bad experience was just bad timing on my part, but that doesn't change the experience. My wife and I had made a day of going to all of the louisville area breweries and doing tastings. We decided to save New Albanian for last as we've had their beer before and know the beer is delicious. Of everyone we talked to in louisville, the bank street location was the recommended. When we arrived, they were a little busy, but not even to full capacity yet. My wife and I found seats at the end of the bar. One of the three bartenders came over and asked us what we wanted. When we asked if they have sample boards, he sighed then very reluctantly said yes. Seeing as we didn't want the guy to have the worst experience of his life for having to pour several small beers and place them on a board, we decided to just order a full pint. The beer listing is up on the wall near the ceiling, and in the center of the building. The regulars are listed by posters, the seasonal beers are written on a chalk board. The board was fairly hard to read, but the real problem is they just had the name of the beer, not the style. So inevitably, we needed to ask the bartender what kind of a beer certain beers were and it's very obvious that his answer was "come on guys, they beers are written right there on the chalk board" (he did say it in a much nicer way, but it still didn't answer the question and was shitty way to respond. if i name my beer Alf the Conqueror, but then don't tell anyone it's an imperial pilsner, then people are bound to ask me what kind of a beer Alf is) We ended up getting some fries to share with our beer. Both the beer and the fries were what we expected. Good. After he no longer had to deal with us, he was in much better spirits (aka, he was happy to give us the check) The beer and the food were good, the service from anyone else probably would have been good. we just caught this guy after he dropped his ice cream cone on the ground or something and he was a sourpuss to us. (Alf the conqueror is not a NAB beer, but feel free to name one that if any NAB brewers read this)

Just went back for our second visit. Just as good as the first! The beer is good. Mostly seasonal. The servers are knowledgeable about what they serve and will provide you with tasting notes and samples. I've had the Black-and-Bluegrass, with agave and spices. I thought it was interesting, my husband thought it tasted like kitchen cleaner. The Hoosier Daddy, a red variety available in winter, was also a great choice. Food is awesome. A small-ish menu, and everything our groups have tried have been excellent: fish sandwich, pork tacos, pork bbq sandwich, burger, pork chop. Starters include delicious French fries, with an assortment of dipping sauces: honey mustard, aioli, spicy horseradish, to name a few, but my favorites are pesto and lavender oil. Hang onto your sauces if you want to use them with your meal; the servers often gather them up once your bowl of fries is empty. Decor is an odd fusion of underworldly comic-book pinup girls and an Eastern Bloc propaganda motif. The garage doors come open in the summer which brings the outdoors in, but unfortunately that includes gnats and flies. Ask for the veal reduction on *anything* you order. It's marvelous. Layers and layers of flavor!

Beer 5 stars Location 4 stars Food 2 stars Maybe we had a fluky experience but: Burger was ordered med, but came out well. Burger was ordered with salad on the side, but got fries. Ordered dark bacon wings but got Asian. Brussell sprouts came out with just leaves. We also ordered the pommes frites, which were perfect. I splurged and got all dipping sauces which is a treat. The fries that came with the burger though, were considerably more well done though, and would not have been enjoyable. Despite the mistakes, all food had enjoyable aspects, so all was not lost, and we are that polite couple that will not make a fuss over a mistake. The beer is the star, and if I ever opened a restaurant, I would want it laid out just like this. Garage doors to let the outside in, and plenty of attitude. Love it.

Unfortunately, I was feeling a bit under the weather the first time I visited, but nothing like a great beer to brighten my day! The New Albanian is one of the best microbreweries in the region, they really excel at their craft. They have some unique stuff you will be hard pressed to find ANYWHERE else, such as their Kentucky Kommon which is made in a style unique to the region and is one of the few styles of beer to originate in the United States! The pork tacos were very good, wish I could speak on more of the food but again I just wasn't feelin' it that day. Ambience is nice, the place is a little small but its rather slick on the interior and has a great feel for the facility. The service was solid, probably a little better than expected even. All in all this place definitely gets my stamp of approval, I can't wait to visit again and explore the menu a little better!

Had a great experience here last weekend! I'm slowly on the road to liking beer, and this place definitely helped. Our server Heather was AWESOME! Friendly and conversational, she suggested the perfect beer for me and my guy. It was called Houndmouth and it was a great combo of a wheat ale and an IPA. The food was great too - not too complicated but delicious nonetheless. It was a little brighter than I would've loved but that will not stop us from returning or recommending it!

We stopped here on a Sunday and needless to say this place was packed. They had a Sunday Brunch that looked fabulous of fresh made omelets and prime rib. We love the other location that is primarily pizza, but this was our first foray into the downtown establishment. It will no be our last though. It is a microbrewery as well as a restaurant similar to the other location, but the food is the focus her. It was Sunday and besides the previously mentioned brunch they had on the menu a chirizo hash that looked outstanding. I settled on the burger with apple-wood bacon. The burger was cooked perfect on a homemade bun. The bacon was crisp and with melted white cheddar it was outstanding. We had homemade hummus as an app. Wow! I love this stuff and the New Albanian's hummus was one of the best I had ever tried. I have eaten hummus in many Greek or Mediterranean restaurants and they can hold their own with the best. The atmosphere is very "alternative", but nicely done. We will be back for nothing other than the hummus, but a return trip is in order!

I'm a regular here and my wife and I generally love the food, beers, service and overall vibe. Having said that, I suggest you take a pass on Sunday brunch. We were there yesterday, and it seemed as if the place was coming apart at the seams. For the first time, I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. Monday through Saturday you can't miss! One star for Sunday, four stars on all other days.

My boyfriend, dog, and I stopped by the Bank Street Brewhouse on a road trip from FL to MI. We selected it based off of Yelp reviews so I thought I should add my own. I really enjoyed this place. It was around 2pm when we stopped so it was pretty empty. We sat out on the patio with the dog which was really nice since we'd been in the car for hours. Our waitress was super helpful and even brought out a pitcher of water for the pup. Beers: I ordered the Black and Blue Grass. I thought it was good. It was a pretty spicy beer and probably would have appreciated it more in cooler weather than what we were having mid-July. My boyfriend got the Tafel Bier. I definitely like this one better for the summer. I got two of the Naughty Girl Belgian Blonde Ales to-go. This was my favorite beer that I had from here. Perfect amount of hops! Food: My boyfriend got the burger and we were pretty disappointed. It was probably the saltiest burger either of us has ever tasted. Not sure if it was the beef or the bacon but we would not recommend. Despite the disappointment with the burger, my sandwich made up for it. The Croque Madame was awesome! The nine grain bread was delicious and ham and prosciutto were perfect . I can't say enough about this sandwich. Definitely the best Croque Madame I've had to date. The side salad was nice as it offered a break from the richness of the sandwich. The pommes frites were good, nothing too special. The bacon horseradish was really great as a dipping sauce for them. I love the fact that pretty much everything is local and one of the nearby farms made a delivery while we were eating. The beer was tasty and the Croque Madame was amazing. I'd definitely recommend!

The menu is extraordinary. I had duck confit and potato cake that would make your average Cordon Bleu grad take notice. Craft beers are outstanding and vary in style and IBU (bitterness). Don't fooled by the fact that the restaurant is located in what can only be described as a recovering post-manufacturing-implosion-town. You won't be sorry.

Now there isn't a lot that will get me to cross the bridge over to Indiana but the New Albanian's Sunday Brunch is something that i'm willing to leave the comforts of Louisville for. It's a little more expensive than your average breakfast fare (entrees range from $10 - $13) but believe me when I tell you it's well worth paying a couple of extra bucks for. I'm a sucker for an innovative Eggs Benedict and the NABC's Kentucky Eggs Benedict is absolutely divine! The entree comes with: Two Poached Eggs, Applewood Smoked Ham, Topped with Mornay Sauce, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and served on a Tribeca Bakery Hero Roll, And A Side Of Hash-Brown Potatoes. It's rich but oh so delicious. On top of that, they have a do it yourself Bloody Mary bar and you don't have to wait til 1pm on Sunday to get your drink on.

In a word -- awesome! Their smoked black lager on tap was incredibly tasty with a pronounced but not overpowering smokiness in the background. The bartender was very knowledgable and friendly, and when asked questions about the various beer offerings he immediately provided samples (without being asked), describing his perception of the beer while doing so. And, OMG, the crispy brussels sprouts were absoutely divine. Bursting with flavor with a nice, subtle saltiness they complemented the beer nicely and were without a doubt in the top 1% of the vegetable dishes ever consumed (and I'm predominantly a vegetarian).

What to say about New Albanian... Anyone that knows me personally that I praise there service and beer at both locations. Bank Street only serves NABC brews along with a great menu of original french inspired recipes. I've been to this location countless times and received excellent service, food and brews each time. Bank Street is also one of my favorite 'intimate date locations'. They usually have a wide selection of NABC staples and special one off brews. If you are a fan of IPA's I recommend trying the Yakima and the different aged variations. My only complaint is that in the two years that I've been dining here it seems like they never switch up the menu. After a few visits the menu can get quite old. I would dine here a lot more if the menu changed seasonally. Other then that New Albanian stands as my favorite brewery in the area. I brag about there beers constantly and they serve as a inspiration to me with my home-brewing.

As a longtime fan of New Albanian's brews, I really wanted to enjoy my meal at the Bank Street Brewery. However, poor service and mediocre brunch at a premium price soured our experience. After entering and being seated, we waited over 10 minutes before being seen by a waiter or waitress. When the time came our waitress did not explain what was going on with the whole Bloody Mary bar and omelette bar, just handed us menus. 10 minutes later she took our food order but rushed off before we could ask for drinks. After sitting 5 minutes longer with no drink of any kind, we finally managed to flag down another server to ask for drinks by looking generally disgruntled. The wait was incredibly frustrating because bartenders, cooks and wait staff appeared to be moving through the restaurant glad-handing regulars throughout our entire meal. I was generally pleased with my Kentucky Eggs Benedict, but the hash browns were over-done and under-flavored. My fellow diner got the combination option, going for hash browns, bacon, a biscuit and eggs. Her hash-browns were in the same-state as mine; her biscuit was hard and dry. With a chef-priced menu, I expected better quality ingredients (i.e. bacon), especially with the limited portion size. My experience appears to have been atypical; however I could not honestly recommend the NAB Bank Street Brewery based on my experience there. The beer was good and reasonably priced.

In the interest of full disclosure, we traveled to New Albany to try this restaurant because my good friend Melissa's brother, Matt, is the head chef here. That said, I don't think there is a lot of hyperbole on my part. The beer I sampled, the porter, was good. I sampled it twice. I also tasted the amber a friend ordered. I was less impressed with it. The food was, overall, very good. We had onion rings as an appetizer. The rings themselves were fine but still just an onion ring. However, the bacon horseradish dipping sauce was great! For entrees, I had the BBQ duck legs. they were good. I prefer my duck a little less cooked but that would be really hard to accomplish with a leg so no complaints. Heidi had the vegetable gnocchi. I only had one bite and would say it was least favorite. It was not bad, just not as flavorful as my dish. Our friends split the ribeye. It was a well-seasoned, well-cooked steak. For dessert, we tried the carrot cake and the beignets. I liked both of them and would order either one again. Overall, we had a really good time at the New Albany Brewery. The beer and food were both enjoyable. We would certainly go back again.

Wow am I glad I found this place. Wish I found it earlier. Came here for the beer. Was not disappointed. Everything is brewed in-house, and most of it is tasty. I mean, you can't expect to like every style, but you should expect to find several you really like. And I did. I loved the stout I would definitely check back regularly for the beer. My advice: Start with the sampler, move on to the seasonals. The food itself was about 3.5 stars. There was a limited menu, but it was generally pretty creative and reasonably high quality. I dislike being charged for dips, but it is what it is. Duck wings were really tasty. The chorizo hash was OK, but a bit underflavored. Service was meh. OK, but slow. The bartender seemed way to preoccupied chatting with her more attractive patrons. Oh well. And they do have a small liquor selection. You can get mixed drinks, though why you would want to is beyond me.

Generally I like this place and have been here many times but tonight was a service nightmare. Waiter said sit anywhere but "oh not there. It's reserved". I didn't know that could be done here. And then service was rushed - tried to take the plate twice while we were still eating. Totally turned off myself and my wife. My favorite restaurant in New Albany! I have never had anything bad. I have never had any problems. I absolutely LOVE the Bloody Mary Bar on Sunday's! My favorite menu items are the burger (you really can't go wrong), the burger is always cooked perfectly to order and tastes great. If you are adventurous order it with the egg. The Pomme Frites are a must. The onion rings are marvelous and the hummus plate is always great. The feel and ambiance of the restaurant is great. Especially when the doors are open. You can either sit inside at a table, barside or your choice of many tables outside on the patio.

A great location in beautiful downtown New Albany, IN. The love the concept of their brews. They are imaginative and flavorful and one day will rival the likes of even Three Floyds if they continue to perfect their flavor profiles per style. The food is what a gastro pub food should be. Through my affiliations with Last Call I was able to attend a sneak peak at the New Albanian Bank Street Brewery (AKA Richo's Downtown). As someone who hasn't always enjoyed living on the other side of the Ohio, the Bank Street Brewery is already the best argument for crossing the river. The brew tanks aren't up yet so all the beer is being shipped from their main location. The quality is still impeccable making Richo's (AKA Bank Street Brewery) one of two serious contenders in 'town' (the other being Cumberland Brews). Last night I tried the "Hoosier Daddy" which I'd never had before. The "Hoosier Daddy" is a cream ale with a red or amber hue. It had a great full flavor that went down light with a clean mouth feel. A perfect beer to transition the horrible winter into the beautiful spring. Several rounds were ordered. A partial menu was available for the event but I was told the goal was to be open to the public, with a full menu, this weekend. I ordered the croque madame. It was a sandwich of thick cut slices of ham between two pieces of wheat bread from our local (award winning) Blue Dog Bakery. This alone would put a sandwich above typical pub fare... but the croque madame took it further. On top of the sandwich is a fried egg and the whole thing is dressed with a house made sauce. The thing is beautiful and designed by someone who understands paring beer with food. static.px.yelp.com/bphot… The bread was toasted and hearty. The ham sweet and salty. The side items of pome frites and salad greens were a perfect compliment. I ate the sandwich and even though I was full I could have ordered a second. It was that good. The people next to me ordered the muscles and while I didn't try them they looked great. Bank Street Brewery is already a five star establishment as it is. Once the tanks are installed and we get to see what the outdoor seating looks like it'll be a ten star establishment (If only I could vote that high). Think the current Richo's location inside Proof on Main. It's style and class meets hand crafted beer. People who wish to develop downtown New Albany need to take a page from Roger's handbook. He successfully makes beer an art to be admired in a small town. I also learned there are plans to begin canning (yes CANNING!) the beer this summer. I see the Bank Street Brewery being a massive success. I see myself being a regular. And I can imagine I'll have to wait to get a table not long after they open. I assure you the wait will be worth it.

Such a good dinner! The soup of the day never disappoints - this time it was a potato, leek and mushroom soup blended smooth. Warm and comforting, it hit the spot. The salad of the day (Caesar) and the Crab cakes were great as well. Service was quick and friendly. I love that this is in my hometown, and it's worth the drive for those across the river.

Awesome little place! My husband and I stumbled upon this place while on a long weekend to Louisville and I'm glad we did. Beer selection was good, I wished there was a lighter summer seasonal brew available but the German table beer I had was good. Love that the beer menu consists of graphic art posters on the wall. Food was fabulous. Had the olive plate, peach salad special, and pork tacos. All very fresh, high quality. So good. Service was great, very attentive waitress. Modern, clean atmosphere with garage-door walls that were open on the lovely summer evening.

If only there were more places like this when I lived in New Albany i may still live there. I've heard alot about this place and had their bison dogs at the Louisville Beer Store. My brother-in-law recommended meeting at this place one night for someplace different.We met another bro-in-law and nephew from Florida for a guy's early night out. The menu was incredible. We got the frites for a starter.The fries were okay but the sea salt and sauces made them much better,especially the pesto.Nephew ordered the coque madame(outstanding!!),brother-in law ordered the chorizo/apple sandwich(great chorizo!),I got the cheese fritters(okay). The burgers looked great and the descriptions of the other dishes ensured additional visits.

I love checking out regional breweries, and The New Albanian is one of the best in the area. Their beers are top notch and lean toward a hop forward flavor. The food menu is also really unique and delicious. I had the pork tacos and they were awesome and paired well with the hoppy beers. We had our Great Dane with us and the staff were very accommodating and since it was a pretty hot day they kept refilling her water bowl with cold ice water. I ended up likeing one of hte beers so much I had to have a growler filled for the road. I will for sure be back!

Ever since moving to New Albany five years ago, my wife and I have been amazed and excited about all of the quality restaurants that have opened in the downtown area during that time. The Bank Street Brewhouse certainly ranks at the top of the list of eateries that have appeared during this renaissance. A great place to simply step in for a beer and some pommes frites or to enjoy an exquisite dinner if you so wish. The brews are delicious and the food is fantastic.

Excellent beers and amazing food. This is an A+, #1 classy brewery. The brewery, which can be seen through windows in the pub, is easily one of the nicest in the tri-state area. All the equipment is top of the line to insure the best beers possible. The facility is small enough to guarantee constant, fresh, craft beers. This, if not yet, is going to be the "Crown Jewel" of this nutty little town we call New Albany. The food is being created by a chef that is clearly excited to be cooking and daring enough to come off w/ dishes you would not expect to see in a "brew pub" but none the less astonish every time. Forget about what you know about breweries from visiting Louisville. New Albanian has broke the mold and come up w/ something to be very proud of. I really love that this restaurant is in downtown New Albany. It's not a great choice for me, since I don't particularly like beer, but the setup and atmosphere is so inviting that it's hard to pass up. Everyone I've taken there has loved it, particularly the outdoor seating. A great amenity. Please note this is NOT a place to take kids, but there are plenty of other options for that in downtown New Albany.

Whoa! There is a reason to stop in New Albany. No scratch that. There is a reason to go to New Albany! This place is incredible, and its not the now four hour buzz I got from only two beers that is making me say this. This place reminds me of the micro breweries in Portland. Small batch local brews and incredibly tasty local food offerings. The bar offers a large selection of the New Albanian brews, complete with IBUs and alcohol content listed per beer. The beer tends toward the strong side of things (a compliment, not a complaint) so be sure to check out the food menu too. The fries are offered with a number of dipping sauces, which I am usually not too keen on, but they have this lavender syrup that blew my mind. The mussels (not local, but very good) come in your choice of broth, I tried the Thai coconut. My fellow diner got the croque monsieur, it tasted better than the Parisian street offerings. So, pretty much I am going back. I love this place!

This new location was meant to expand on the original, but got lost in some pretentious parallel universe. Yes they have good beer, but so does the original location. The food here is not beer friendly. It is way over priced and not that good. I had a sandwich and fries for $12 and my gf got a burger and fries for $13. We both agreed neither was anything special. We skipped dessert and went somewhere else to get something worth while. I don't understand what people love about this place, I won't be back.

After a lot of false-starts for an early dinner, we came across the border and stopped here. It looks like a converted garage of some sort, but our waiter told us that it had been a bread delivery place?? The beers I had were excellent. I went with darker style beers, and one was described as similar to Guinness. It was - very smooth finish. My second beer, which they only serve in 10 oz glasses due to the alcohol content, initially tasted like rootbeer but finished with a smoky flavor. It was excellent. The food was very good and probably not what you expect for "bar food". I had the chorizo hash with creme fraiche. Yum! I'd go here again if I were in the New Albany, IN area.

You definitely don't have to be a beer fan to enjoy the New Albanian! Great atmosphere, especially in nice weather when you can sit outside. And the food -- not at all your typical pub fare. Delicious and diverse, with daily specials to keep things interesting. If available, don't pass on coffee and beignets for dessert. Mmm

I'm a homebrewer and love to hunt down craft brew on business trips. Ate here on a business trip. The craft beer is excellent and the food was amazing. Small menu but has a French Bistro feel in that they seem to rotate the menu. The fixed priced meal was an excellent choice and I went with the Duck. Had a little shortage on the desert course but the chef came out and apologized and offered other options. The service was great and I will be back.

I appreciate Bank Street Brewery as a restaurant as well as a proponent of New Albany's downtown. This location and its owner have been fairly instrumental in shaping the way that the area has undergone a renaissance as of late. First, the restaurant. The drinks are excellent. Along with the full selection of New Albanian craft brews (which I'll put against anything in the region), Bank Street offers a full bar for cocktails. If you ever get the opportunity to hear Roger, the owner, discuss what goes into brewing, take it. It is fascinating. The food is very good. I don't think I'd throw around words like "amazing" or "phenomenal," but it is good. Bank Street doesn't offer pizza like its sister location, but treads more on the entree side of the ledger. I typically get the Croque Madame and fries. If you get fries, try the lavender oil. Deceptively good. The restaurant layout is convertible depending on the season. There is, of course, the main bar/seating area which can be opened up to the front patio seating (which allows dogs) in warmer months. The large windows at the back look onto the brewing equipment and copper lines, letting you know where your beer came from. There is also "The Reading Room" with plush couches and shorter tables which give a more laid back environment. This area opens up (in warmer times) to the side patio with even more seating. The patio area also plays host to live music, Fringe Fest, during New Albany's Harvest Homecoming. You will probably spot the New Albanian logo at local events. Be sure to stop by and grab one of the best beers in the area and support local brewing and a mainstay of the downtown resurgence.

Over the past few years I've found that I've updated my review at the New Albanian Bank Street Brewery a few times due to all the changes that have occurred. Also, I have been a little critical at times. So, I'm not going to cover all those past changes, instead this review will cover the current state of the food, beer & service at the New Albanian Bank Street Brewery and their partnership with Earth Friends Café. During my recent visit I found that the menu had been updated and in my view now has a better food offering for a beer geek like myself. The housemade beer battered crabcake sandwich with spicy hoptimus hollandaise became an instant hit for me. This sandwich got better with each bite and the spicy hollandaise sauce was perfect. I choose the 3 bean salad for a side and its always been spot on. I also got a personal flatbread chicken pesto pizza in a take home box and the next day this was very good. The new menu change is a homerun in my view and the service was incredible on this evening. People wanted to make certain that both the beer & food were what you wanted. The beer is always great and during the summer months I like a wheat beer and one of the current seasonal beers, Frankensteiner, is among my favorites. Don't forget to bring your growler and don't be shy about asking for samples of the beer until you find those that you like.

I have a feeling my bad experience was just bad timing on my part, but that doesn't change the experience. My wife and I had made a day of going to all of the louisville area breweries and doing tastings. We decided to save New Albanian for last as we've had their beer before and know the beer is delicious. Of everyone we talked to in louisville, the bank street location was the recommended. When we arrived, they were a little busy, but not even to full capacity yet. My wife and I found seats at the end of the bar. One of the three bartenders came over and asked us what we wanted. When we asked if they have sample boards, he sighed then very reluctantly said yes. Seeing as we didn't want the guy to have the worst experience of his life for having to pour several small beers and place them on a board, we decided to just order a full pint. The beer listing is up on the wall near the ceiling, and in the center of the building. The regulars are listed by posters, the seasonal beers are written on a chalk board. The board was fairly hard to read, but the real problem is they just had the name of the beer, not the style. So inevitably, we needed to ask the bartender what kind of a beer certain beers were and it's very obvious that his answer was "come on guys, they beers are written right there on the chalk board" (he did say it in a much nicer way, but it still didn't answer the question and was shitty way to respond. if i name my beer Alf the Conqueror, but then don't tell anyone it's an imperial pilsner, then people are bound to ask me what kind of a beer Alf is) We ended up getting some fries to share with our beer. Both the beer and the fries were what we expected. Good. After he no longer had to deal with us, he was in much better spirits (aka, he was happy to give us the check) The beer and the food were good, the service from anyone else probably would have been good. we just caught this guy after he dropped his ice cream cone on the ground or something and he was a sourpuss to us. (Alf the conqueror is not a NAB beer, but feel free to name one that if any NAB brewers read this)

Just went back for our second visit. Just as good as the first! The beer is good. Mostly seasonal. The servers are knowledgeable about what they serve and will provide you with tasting notes and samples. I've had the Black-and-Bluegrass, with agave and spices. I thought it was interesting, my husband thought it tasted like kitchen cleaner. The Hoosier Daddy, a red variety available in winter, was also a great choice. Food is awesome. A small-ish menu, and everything our groups have tried have been excellent: fish sandwich, pork tacos, pork bbq sandwich, burger, pork chop. Starters include delicious French fries, with an assortment of dipping sauces: honey mustard, aioli, spicy horseradish, to name a few, but my favorites are pesto and lavender oil. Hang onto your sauces if you want to use them with your meal; the servers often gather them up once your bowl of fries is empty. Decor is an odd fusion of underworldly comic-book pinup girls and an Eastern Bloc propaganda motif. The garage doors come open in the summer which brings the outdoors in, but unfortunately that includes gnats and flies. Ask for the veal reduction on *anything* you order. It's marvelous. Layers and layers of flavor!

Beer 5 stars Location 4 stars Food 2 stars Maybe we had a fluky experience but: Burger was ordered med, but came out well. Burger was ordered with salad on the side, but got fries. Ordered dark bacon wings but got Asian. Brussell sprouts came out with just leaves. We also ordered the pommes frites, which were perfect. I splurged and got all dipping sauces which is a treat. The fries that came with the burger though, were considerably more well done though, and would not have been enjoyable. Despite the mistakes, all food had enjoyable aspects, so all was not lost, and we are that polite couple that will not make a fuss over a mistake. The beer is the star, and if I ever opened a restaurant, I would want it laid out just like this. Garage doors to let the outside in, and plenty of attitude. Love it.

Unfortunately, I was feeling a bit under the weather the first time I visited, but nothing like a great beer to brighten my day! The New Albanian is one of the best microbreweries in the region, they really excel at their craft. They have some unique stuff you will be hard pressed to find ANYWHERE else, such as their Kentucky Kommon which is made in a style unique to the region and is one of the few styles of beer to originate in the United States! The pork tacos were very good, wish I could speak on more of the food but again I just wasn't feelin' it that day. Ambience is nice, the place is a little small but its rather slick on the interior and has a great feel for the facility. The service was solid, probably a little better than expected even. All in all this place definitely gets my stamp of approval, I can't wait to visit again and explore the menu a little better!

Had a great experience here last weekend! I'm slowly on the road to liking beer, and this place definitely helped. Our server Heather was AWESOME! Friendly and conversational, she suggested the perfect beer for me and my guy. It was called Houndmouth and it was a great combo of a wheat ale and an IPA. The food was great too - not too complicated but delicious nonetheless. It was a little brighter than I would've loved but that will not stop us from returning or recommending it!

We stopped here on a Sunday and needless to say this place was packed. They had a Sunday Brunch that looked fabulous of fresh made omelets and prime rib. We love the other location that is primarily pizza, but this was our first foray into the downtown establishment. It will no be our last though. It is a microbrewery as well as a restaurant similar to the other location, but the food is the focus her. It was Sunday and besides the previously mentioned brunch they had on the menu a chirizo hash that looked outstanding. I settled on the burger with apple-wood bacon. The burger was cooked perfect on a homemade bun. The bacon was crisp and with melted white cheddar it was outstanding. We had homemade hummus as an app. Wow! I love this stuff and the New Albanian's hummus was one of the best I had ever tried. I have eaten hummus in many Greek or Mediterranean restaurants and they can hold their own with the best. The atmosphere is very "alternative", but nicely done. We will be back for nothing other than the hummus, but a return trip is in order!

I'm a regular here and my wife and I generally love the food, beers, service and overall vibe. Having said that, I suggest you take a pass on Sunday brunch. We were there yesterday, and it seemed as if the place was coming apart at the seams. For the first time, I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. Monday through Saturday you can't miss! One star for Sunday, four stars on all other days.

My boyfriend, dog, and I stopped by the Bank Street Brewhouse on a road trip from FL to MI. We selected it based off of Yelp reviews so I thought I should add my own. I really enjoyed this place. It was around 2pm when we stopped so it was pretty empty. We sat out on the patio with the dog which was really nice since we'd been in the car for hours. Our waitress was super helpful and even brought out a pitcher of water for the pup. Beers: I ordered the Black and Blue Grass. I thought it was good. It was a pretty spicy beer and probably would have appreciated it more in cooler weather than what we were having mid-July. My boyfriend got the Tafel Bier. I definitely like this one better for the summer. I got two of the Naughty Girl Belgian Blonde Ales to-go. This was my favorite beer that I had from here. Perfect amount of hops! Food: My boyfriend got the burger and we were pretty disappointed. It was probably the saltiest burger either of us has ever tasted. Not sure if it was the beef or the bacon but we would not recommend. Despite the disappointment with the burger, my sandwich made up for it. The Croque Madame was awesome! The nine grain bread was delicious and ham and prosciutto were perfect . I can't say enough about this sandwich. Definitely the best Croque Madame I've had to date. The side salad was nice as it offered a break from the richness of the sandwich. The pommes frites were good, nothing too special. The bacon horseradish was really great as a dipping sauce for them. I love the fact that pretty much everything is local and one of the nearby farms made a delivery while we were eating. The beer was tasty and the Croque Madame was amazing. I'd definitely recommend!

The menu is extraordinary. I had duck confit and potato cake that would make your average Cordon Bleu grad take notice. Craft beers are outstanding and vary in style and IBU (bitterness). Don't fooled by the fact that the restaurant is located in what can only be described as a recovering post-manufacturing-implosion-town. You won't be sorry.

Now there isn't a lot that will get me to cross the bridge over to Indiana but the New Albanian's Sunday Brunch is something that i'm willing to leave the comforts of Louisville for. It's a little more expensive than your average breakfast fare (entrees range from $10 - $13) but believe me when I tell you it's well worth paying a couple of extra bucks for. I'm a sucker for an innovative Eggs Benedict and the NABC's Kentucky Eggs Benedict is absolutely divine! The entree comes with: Two Poached Eggs, Applewood Smoked Ham, Topped with Mornay Sauce, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and served on a Tribeca Bakery Hero Roll, And A Side Of Hash-Brown Potatoes. It's rich but oh so delicious. On top of that, they have a do it yourself Bloody Mary bar and you don't have to wait til 1pm on Sunday to get your drink on.

In a word -- awesome! Their smoked black lager on tap was incredibly tasty with a pronounced but not overpowering smokiness in the background. The bartender was very knowledgable and friendly, and when asked questions about the various beer offerings he immediately provided samples (without being asked), describing his perception of the beer while doing so. And, OMG, the crispy brussels sprouts were absoutely divine. Bursting with flavor with a nice, subtle saltiness they complemented the beer nicely and were without a doubt in the top 1% of the vegetable dishes ever consumed (and I'm predominantly a vegetarian).

What to say about New Albanian... Anyone that knows me personally that I praise there service and beer at both locations. Bank Street only serves NABC brews along with a great menu of original french inspired recipes. I've been to this location countless times and received excellent service, food and brews each time. Bank Street is also one of my favorite 'intimate date locations'. They usually have a wide selection of NABC staples and special one off brews. If you are a fan of IPA's I recommend trying the Yakima and the different aged variations. My only complaint is that in the two years that I've been dining here it seems like they never switch up the menu. After a few visits the menu can get quite old. I would dine here a lot more if the menu changed seasonally. Other then that New Albanian stands as my favorite brewery in the area. I brag about there beers constantly and they serve as a inspiration to me with my home-brewing.

As a longtime fan of New Albanian's brews, I really wanted to enjoy my meal at the Bank Street Brewery. However, poor service and mediocre brunch at a premium price soured our experience. After entering and being seated, we waited over 10 minutes before being seen by a waiter or waitress. When the time came our waitress did not explain what was going on with the whole Bloody Mary bar and omelette bar, just handed us menus. 10 minutes later she took our food order but rushed off before we could ask for drinks. After sitting 5 minutes longer with no drink of any kind, we finally managed to flag down another server to ask for drinks by looking generally disgruntled. The wait was incredibly frustrating because bartenders, cooks and wait staff appeared to be moving through the restaurant glad-handing regulars throughout our entire meal. I was generally pleased with my Kentucky Eggs Benedict, but the hash browns were over-done and under-flavored. My fellow diner got the combination option, going for hash browns, bacon, a biscuit and eggs. Her hash-browns were in the same-state as mine; her biscuit was hard and dry. With a chef-priced menu, I expected better quality ingredients (i.e. bacon), especially with the limited portion size. My experience appears to have been atypical; however I could not honestly recommend the NAB Bank Street Brewery based on my experience there. The beer was good and reasonably priced.

In the interest of full disclosure, we traveled to New Albany to try this restaurant because my good friend Melissa's brother, Matt, is the head chef here. That said, I don't think there is a lot of hyperbole on my part. The beer I sampled, the porter, was good. I sampled it twice. I also tasted the amber a friend ordered. I was less impressed with it. The food was, overall, very good. We had onion rings as an appetizer. The rings themselves were fine but still just an onion ring. However, the bacon horseradish dipping sauce was great! For entrees, I had the BBQ duck legs. they were good. I prefer my duck a little less cooked but that would be really hard to accomplish with a leg so no complaints. Heidi had the vegetable gnocchi. I only had one bite and would say it was least favorite. It was not bad, just not as flavorful as my dish. Our friends split the ribeye. It was a well-seasoned, well-cooked steak. For dessert, we tried the carrot cake and the beignets. I liked both of them and would order either one again. Overall, we had a really good time at the New Albany Brewery. The beer and food were both enjoyable. We would certainly go back again.

Wow am I glad I found this place. Wish I found it earlier. Came here for the beer. Was not disappointed. Everything is brewed in-house, and most of it is tasty. I mean, you can't expect to like every style, but you should expect to find several you really like. And I did. I loved the stout I would definitely check back regularly for the beer. My advice: Start with the sampler, move on to the seasonals. The food itself was about 3.5 stars. There was a limited menu, but it was generally pretty creative and reasonably high quality. I dislike being charged for dips, but it is what it is. Duck wings were really tasty. The chorizo hash was OK, but a bit underflavored. Service was meh. OK, but slow. The bartender seemed way to preoccupied chatting with her more attractive patrons. Oh well. And they do have a small liquor selection. You can get mixed drinks, though why you would want to is beyond me.

And then service was rushed - tried to take the plate twice while we were still eating. Totally turned off myself and my wife. My favorite restaurant in New Albany! I have never had anything bad. I have never had any problems. I absolutely LOVE the Bloody Mary Bar on Sunday's! My favorite menu items are the burger (you really can't go wrong), the burger is always cooked perfectly to order and tastes great. If you are adventurous order it with the egg. The Pomme Frites are a must. The onion rings are marvelous and the hummus plate is always great. The feel and ambiance of the restaurant is great. Especially when the doors are open. You can either sit inside at a table, barside or your choice of many tables outside on the patio.

A great location in beautiful downtown New Albany, IN. The love the concept of their brews. They are imaginative and flavorful and one day will rival the likes of even Three Floyds if they continue to perfect their flavor profiles per style. The food is what a gastro pub food should be. Not the typical pub grub, which I am thankful for. The croquet madam is addicting. I once had a dream about it, seriously, and drove the hour and a half from Indy to grab it the next morning. The frites are great with the lavender dip. Excellent tacos as well. This company just has that certain character that causes me to fall in love with it.

Through my affiliations with Last Call I was able to attend a sneak peak at the New Albanian Bank Street Brewery (AKA Richo's Downtown). As someone who hasn't always enjoyed living on the other side of the Ohio, the Bank Street Brewery is already the best argument for crossing the river. The brew tanks aren't up yet so all the beer is being shipped from their main location. The quality is still impeccable making Richo's (AKA Bank Street Brewery) one of two serious contenders in 'town' (the other being Cumberland Brews). Last night I tried the "Hoosier Daddy" which I'd never had before. The "Hoosier Daddy" is a cream ale with a red or amber hue. It had a great full flavor that went down light with a clean mouth feel. A perfect beer to transition the horrible winter into the beautiful spring. Several rounds were ordered. A partial menu was available for the event but I was told the goal was to be open to the public, with a full menu, this weekend. I ordered the croque madame. It was a sandwich of thick cut slices of ham between two pieces of wheat bread from our local (award winning) Blue Dog Bakery. This alone would put a sandwich above typical pub fare... but the croque madame took it further. On top of the sandwich is a fried egg and the whole thing is dressed with a house made sauce. The thing is beautiful and designed by someone who understands paring beer with food. static.px.yelp.com/bphot… The bread was toasted and hearty. The ham sweet and salty. The side items of pome frites and salad greens were a perfect compliment. I ate the sandwich and even though I was full I could have ordered a second. It was that good. The people next to me ordered the muscles and while I didn't try them they looked great. Bank Street Brewery is already a five star establishment as it is. Once the tanks are installed and we get to see what the outdoor seating looks like it'll be a ten star establishment (If only I could vote that high). Think the current Richo's location inside Proof on Main. It's style and class meets hand crafted beer. People who wish to develop downtown New Albany need to take a page from Roger's handbook. He successfully makes beer an art to be admired in a small town. I also learned there are plans to begin canning (yes CANNING!) the beer this summer. I see the Bank Street Brewery being a massive success. I see myself being a regular. And I can imagine I'll have to wait to get a table not long after they open. I assure you the wait will be worth it.

Such a good dinner! The soup of the day never disappoints - this time it was a potato, leek and mushroom soup blended smooth. Warm and comforting, it hit the spot. The salad of the day (Caesar) and the Crab cakes were great as well. Service was quick and friendly. I love that this is in my hometown, and it's worth the drive for those across the river.

Awesome little place! My husband and I stumbled upon this place while on a long weekend to Louisville and I'm glad we did. Beer selection was good, I wished there was a lighter summer seasonal brew available but the German table beer I had was good. Love that the beer menu consists of graphic art posters on the wall. Food was fabulous. Had the olive plate, peach salad special, and pork tacos. All very fresh, high quality. So good. Service was great, very attentive waitress. Modern, clean atmosphere with garage-door walls that were open on the lovely summer evening.

If only there were more places like this when I lived in New Albany i may still live there. I've heard alot about this place and had their bison dogs at the Louisville Beer Store. My brother-in-law recommended meeting at this place one night for someplace different.We met another bro-in-law and nephew from Florida for a guy's early night out. The menu was incredible. We got the frites for a starter.The fries were okay but the sea salt and sauces made them much better,especially the pesto.Nephew ordered the coque madame(outstanding!!),brother-in law ordered the chorizo/apple sandwich(great chorizo!),I got the cheese fritters(okay). The burgers looked great and the descriptions of the other dishes ensured additional visits.

I love checking out regional breweries, and The New Albanian is one of the best in the area. Their beers are top notch and lean toward a hop forward flavor. The food menu is also really unique and delicious. I had the pork tacos and they were awesome and paired well with the hoppy beers. We had our Great Dane with us and the staff were very accommodating and since it was a pretty hot day they kept refilling her water bowl with cold ice water. I ended up likeing one of hte beers so much I had to have a growler filled for the road. I will for sure be back!

Ever since moving to New Albany five years ago, my wife and I have been amazed and excited about all of the quality restaurants that have opened in the downtown area during that time. The Bank Street Brewhouse certainly ranks at the top of the list of eateries that have appeared during this renaissance. A great place to simply step in for a beer and some pommes frites or to enjoy an exquisite dinner if you so wish. The brews are delicious and the food is fantastic.

Excellent beers and amazing food. This is an A+, #1 classy brewery. The brewery, which can be seen through windows in the pub, is easily one of the nicest in the tri-state area. All the equipment is top of the line to insure the best beers possible. The facility is small enough to guarantee constant, fresh, craft beers. This, if not yet, is going to be the "Crown Jewel" of this nutty little town we call New Albany. The food is being created by a chef that is clearly excited to be cooking and daring enough to come off w/ dishes you would not expect to see in a "brew pub" but none the less astonish every time. Forget about what you know about breweries from visiting Louisville. New Albanian has broke the mold and come up w/ something to be very proud of. I really love that this restaurant is in downtown New Albany. It's not a great choice for me, since I don't particularly like beer, but the setup and atmosphere is so inviting that it's hard to pass up. Everyone I've taken there has loved it, particularly the outdoor seating. A great amenity. Please note this is NOT a place to take kids, but there are plenty of other options for that in downtown New Albany.

Whoa! There is a reason to stop in New Albany. No scratch that. There is a reason to go to New Albany! This place is incredible, and its not the now four hour buzz I got from only two beers that is making me say this. This place reminds me of the micro breweries in Portland. Small batch local brews and incredibly tasty local food offerings. The bar offers a large selection of the New Albanian brews, complete with IBUs and alcohol content listed per beer. The beer tends toward the strong side of things (a compliment, not a complaint) so be sure to check out the food menu too. The fries are offered with a number of dipping sauces, which I am usually not too keen on, but they have this lavender syrup that blew my mind. The mussels (not local, but very good) come in your choice of broth, I tried the Thai coconut. My fellow diner got the croque monsieur, it tasted better than the Parisian street offerings. So, pretty much I am going back. I love this place!

Delicious beer!!! Exquisite dining! Affordable prices... Really, what more could you ask for? I dig the atmosphere and the art. Craft beer in Indiana, who woulda thought.

Fantastic beer and even better food. Very affordable. Hardly any wait for a Saturday. Staff was very attentive and made great recommendations for food and beverages. I will visit this brewery anytime I am in the area.

This new location was meant to expand on the original, but got lost in some pretentious parallel universe. Yes they have good beer, but so does the original location. The food here is not beer friendly. It is way over priced and not that good. I had a sandwich and fries for $12 and my gf got a burger and fries for $13. We both agreed neither was anything special. We skipped dessert and went somewhere else to get something worth while. I don't understand what people love about this place, I won't be back.

After a lot of false-starts for an early dinner, we came across the border and stopped here. It looks like a converted garage of some sort, but our waiter told us that it had been a bread delivery place?? The beers I had were excellent. I went with darker style beers, and one was described as similar to Guinness. It was - very smooth finish. My second beer, which they only serve in 10 oz glasses due to the alcohol content, initially tasted like rootbeer but finished with a smoky flavor. It was excellent. The food was very good and probably not what you expect for "bar food". I had the chorizo hash with creme fraiche. Yum! I'd go here again if I were in the New Albany, IN area.

You definitely don't have to be a beer fan to enjoy the New Albanian! Great atmosphere, especially in nice weather when you can sit outside. And the food -- not at all your typical pub fare. Delicious and diverse, with daily specials to keep things interesting. If available, don't pass on coffee and beignets for dessert. Mmm

I'm a homebrewer and love to hunt down craft brew on business trips. Ate here on a business trip. The craft beer is excellent and the food was amazing. Small menu but has a French Bistro feel in that they seem to rotate the menu. The fixed priced meal was an excellent choice and I went with the Duck. Had a little shortage on the desert course but the chef came out and apologized and offered other options. The service was great and I will be back.

The Croque Madame was amazing--one of the best I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of them. The fries were great too. New Albanian merits a trip across the river.
