I still feel Portillo's has better qualify food. The burgars for example at Portillos always manage to come out juicy. At Irvings, the burgar is definitely frozen. 2 out of the 3 times I ordered a burger from here, it was charred to the point it felt like I was chewing into cardboard. The buns on occasion have been stale. Fries at times have tasted like they've been refried. At least with Portillo's the food and qualify is always consistant. What I do like about Irvings are their dogs. The dogs are beef, taste good and they offer sauerkraut which a lot of other places don't offer. Also, Irvings appears to be a family run business and I can always appreciate that. Irvings is definitely worth going to if you want something quick in the neighborhood.

We were out in the area and decided to try Iving's for Red Hot Lovers. After all, it was Sweetest Day. If you're coming from the west (Glenview), it's easy to miss on Lake Ave., as it is located on the west side of a strip mall at the corner of Skokie Road and Lake. Once inside, it became clear to us quickly that this place must be a big hit with the locals. Even though it was past the peak lunch hour at 1 PM, there was a line to the door and nearly every table was taken in the small dining area. Families with kids and high school kids from nearby Loyola Academy all came here for lunch or ice cream. I ordered a grilled Polish sausage. My wife got a brat with sauerkraut and onions. My older son got a plain hot dog. This place gets it right. The order-taker calls out every item as a crew in back get busy on each order. It did not appear that he wrote anything down, yet we got everything just right. Pretty amazing how they got the routine down. We also found the line moved very quickly. My grilled Polish was excellent and my wife said her brat had the right "snap" to it - perhaps the best she's tried around here. We also got a side of onion rings and sweet potato fries. Servings aren't big on side items but their o-rings are great tasting. Same with the fries. Overall, it's a cramped sort of place, as many of the best hole-in-the-wall fast food joints often are, but it wasn't long before we struck up a conversation with another guy who stopped in for lunch too. And we looked over at some Loyola kids with cheese fries. If my cholesterol wasn't a concern, I'd gladly pounce on those and devour them. After our meal, it was amazing to see the crowd had not subsided at all. For a little town in the North Shore, Wilmette sure has a lot of Red Hot Lovers. Add us to the list of fans who will return here next time we're back in the area.

the more things change, the more they stay the same. Except that on the whole Irving's hasn't changed in over 15 years and that is a great thing. I grew up on Irving's and it had been too long since I had been here. I walked on in, met my friend and ordered up a brat and a dog with my normal toppings. How quickly I was reminded that its the brats here that are what really bring it. The dog was good, but the brat is always great and is something I just jones for every now and then. The problem of fond memories being dashed always exists on places you grew up, but Irving's never disappoints. I didn't get any of teh criss-cut of cheddar fries this time, but they are always great as well. When I do go here, I always question myself why I don't come back here more. so it goes

This food was mediocre at best. The cheese fries were nasty. The tables were dirty, the bathroom was disgustingly filthy. I will never return. The ONLY plus was the man behind the counter was very friendly. Suggestion: wash your hands after handling money and then food. Not enough seating either.....

I went to high school a few blocks from here so I have been stopping by for about five or ten years now. Really great little hot dog place. Love their cheese fries. What more is there to say!

I am really sad, but the last 2 times I have been there the food was terrible. Today...a lunch hour, dry burger, old bun and cold ff. really. I won't be returning. Too bad. :(

Maybe two decades and some years back Chicago had it's own Irving's location till they moved. Bleh! I remember walking there with my old man and getting all sorts of delicious char foods. For my young age I never understood what the heck, "for red hot lovers" meant but assumed it had to do with dating. "So this is where I could take chicks" (I was under ten, alright) Obviously it's meaning is for those that love red hots or hot diggity dogs as my Ma so lovingly likes to call them. Irving's is a char house, so most of your favorites you would love. Full staff with many working the line so you get your food pretty quickly. This place is tiny compared to the store they once had in Peterson Park. Weekday afternoons are usually busy with service folk and local corporate types. They are found in a strip mall with ample parking. Seating is the curved wooden booth style and they have booths for two and up to four. During Lent or when I feel like it, I'll stop by and have their fried fish (cod) sandwich. Shredded lettuce, tartar the way it should be and a thick slice of sandwich style tomato. Hits the spot, but just for (reminiscing) I'll have a red hot also. Not the best when following each other. A perfect order with some friends would be a few char favorites and definitely some cheese fries. Their food isn't heavy, so you can leave feeling satisfied and not bloated. Always made fresh to order. Recently Irving's had an offer through Groupon, so thank you Irving's for offering them, I made great use of those and probably stopped over more often than I have in the not so recent past.

Growing up on nothing but Hot Dogs and loving this place as a kid, it pains me to say the food quality has slipped at old Irvings. I used to be able to look past the outdated decor but when I visited the last time it looked pretty gritty (to be kind). I live out of town, so this used to be a necessity stop in for a hot dog fix. I just do not have the patience for a mediocre hot dog shop. Sorry Irvings

Best dog dog joint in town! Hot dog, fries and 24 oz refill for under $6! Can't beat. Place is clean, guys friendly, tv turned to the latest sports, food hot and made to order, you can't go wrong.

I was on the hotdog Memory Lane trip today and had to come back to Irving's. They have been here for 40 years and I remember when they opened. I was so disappointed to learn they no longer carry Vienna beef hotdogs. Apparently, they haven't for years but I didn't know because I usually order a Polish sausage. I did not realize this was another brand until I was three bites into my hotdog and could not figure out why it wasn't fabulous. I nearly wept and stopped eating. It wasn't good enough to finish. I read other comments about the place looking like it could use a good cleaning. I agree. It needs a thorough washing and spiffing up. The three stars is generous and solely graded on today. The person next to me said his char cheddar Polish was to die for. I was relieved to hear that but I am afraid I am done. The staff remains friendly, enthusiastic and efficient but that I am no longer in love with Irving's. This is a devastating break up.

The food is classic Chicago hot dog/gyros fare, but YOU MUST DO TAKE OUT! The place is FILTHY... like 40 years of grease filthy. Every surface looked clean, but was sticky and greasy. We were slipping on the tile floors. It actually took away my appetite. The die-hard Irving-ites will hate me for this review, but I don't know why the management can't have the place degreased once a week. When you operate a griddle and deep fry in the same room, you really need to clean.

    (3)
  • Luke S.

I haven't been here for years and made the mistake of ordering a gyro combo meal. The gyro came with more tziki sauce than meat which is disappointing for a $8+tax combo meal. The fries also were not fresh, even though I came early in their lunch rush. In retrospect I should have had their hot dog as they are great Chicago style dogs. Overall they are a bit overpriced as the $3 dog doesn't come with fries. For a long time they had no competition, but with 5 guys opening down the street you get a lot more food for similar prices.

Late this morning, Mrs B. asked me to accompany her to Old Orchard and stop off for a little lunch along the way. "Whoa," said I, "If we go out we must find a promotion, or coupon, or Groupon, or sumpin' that ends with the letter 'N'," I exclaimed. We checked our file of discount deals and found an Entertanment coupon for Irving's. Otherwise, I was prepared to dumpster dive somewhere between Glenview and Skokie. Ahh, Irving's! I recall Irving's (...for Red Hot Lovers) in the flower of my youth, when I resided a mere mile from the shop. It was one of the classic hot dog joints that migrated from Chicago to Wilmette in the mid-1970s, as I recall. I would go there with my first wife who liked junk food more than she liked me. With the exception of higher prices, it looked much the same as I recalled it from forty years ago, although the place looked a bit grimy and in need of a good cleaning and modernization. It still had tables and chairs along the hallway to the rest rooms (very charming), and lots of unhealthy hot dogs and the like. Oh yeah, I think they were no longer offering Vienna brand hot dogs: they had some other supplier. Our Entertainment coupon was a two-fer for chicken sandwiches, so we did not try their hot dogs. Interestingly, as we walked in with a visible coupon in the wife's hand, the counter clerk shouted out, "Do you want your chicken on a pita bread or a bun?" This was BEFORE we even made it to the counter! So, I ordered pita and she ordered a bun. They put the chicken on a grill, added my choice of condiments - and it was ready in just a few minutes. Everything tasted pretty good, and the cooking area looked clean, so I did not feel grossed out or concerned about hygiene as others had written. Irving's is a local Wilmette tradition, and I believe that they still sponsor some Little League teams and support local charities, all of which are good. I don't get around Wilmette very often, having lived in Glenview for almost 40 years, but I think that I would visit Irving's again if I lived nearby. I would recommend that they really remodel and clean up the place so I could award it a four-star rating.

Always great food when I visit Irving's as it is all about quality! Starting with people who enjoy serving to the flavor that is present in every bite. I have always rated Chicago dogs by the polish they serve. It takes a great more car to serve a perfect polish and Irving's never missed a step! Thanks Again! Another perfect polish for me!

Finally, I can cross Chicago hotdogs off my Foodie must do list. This small bustling place was fun, super fast and mostly frequented by locals, which is always a great sign. It was all delish: Jumbo bacon hot dog - awesome juicy dog, crispy bacon, two slices of tomato, pickle. Polish sausage - very very good Kids burger meal came with yummy fries and 12 oz drink Beer battered fried Mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce- the bomb. We washed it all down with cold root beer. It's the kind of local fast food place where you call out your order and find a stool to sit on while you just happily munch on your hot goodies. Next time I want to try the grilled salami sandwiches... Just wish they offered deep fried cheese jalapeños. Can't wait to come back!

Listen, this place has perhaps the most awesome chili cheese dog (with onions) I have ever experienced in my entire life. Do you call them Coney dogs? Whatever you call this dog I call 'em delicious! The other food was standard fare. The place needs some updating and a good cleaning but I will be back repeatedly for that chili cheese masterpiece. Side note: while I was inside Irving's 4 red hot lovers a manager from the nearby restaurant Trifecta (you can find my review if you like) charged at me. She said that many people are mad and cursing me over my Yelp review . However, she said she really appreciated my honesty. She was aggressive but we had a very nice conversation. I believe that Yelp helps restaurants get better and saves foodies money and wasted time.

Best cheese fries and cheese dogs you'll ever eat. The burgers are also top quality, way above what you'd expect for a fast food establishment. I'd have to recommend coming with your friends, kids, uncle and grandma. They'll all find something delicious on the menu to enjoy!

I had a char cheddar dog and cheddar fries recently and it was a Classic Chicago Dog experience. My sons had cheddar burgers and loved them. One had chili cheese fries and the other had sweet potato fries. All good!!

Some of the best hot dogs I've ever had. Their burgers are great too. Only 5 min away from me yet I haven't been here for a few years. Will have to make it a point to go back soon.

Great staff great food always a satisfying meal when you eat at Irving's. I have been going here my whole life it is a staple for hot dogs and burgers in the north shore. Andy the owner does a great job with this place it's clean and just a joy to eat at. I cannot speak any more highly of this hot dog heaven than I already have. They have been around for 35+ years and still going that says a lot!!!

  • Lenny G.

Compared to the other hotdog places around, this place is just mediocre. The reason why it gets one star is that the person serving us was handling our hamburger and hotdog meats without wearing gloves (and I didn't see him wash his hands). My entire family got sick that night. I don't think it was a coincidence.

    (1)
  • Randall K.

The best hot dog in Chicago. The crew of employees has been the same for the last decade. The service is top notch and the cheese fries are AWSOME. This is a staple of my culinary indulgences. The price is up there, but it's a North Shore location. Extra bonus is if a game is on, it's on the TV. Even the Sox.

Got food poisoning from a hot dog. Almost had to go to the hospital. Will never eat there again. Too bad - it's been there a long time and is a family business, but when I called to report the food poisoning, they were not very receptive.

  • Alicia E.

This place has a pretty decent hot dog. I usually get the cheese dog whenever I come in - super delicious. My only issue is the size of the fries. You get a pretty small portion, but they are good fries. The restaurant has a lot of seating, and pretty nice employees working there. I have been there a few times when the employees didn't really seem to care too much and seemed really tired, but I thought it was reasonable due to it being near closing time.

What can I say!!! Left the city to eat here... Best Red Hot I've had in years. Maybe ever. The cheddar made it what it is. Not gooey, just perfect. Chili was to die for. Juicy dog with a perfect snap from the skin. A must have for anyone craving a hot dog/red hot!!!! Will definitely be coming back every time I come to the city.

I went here today with my two teenage boys. My older had nothing but a drink. My younger and I both had 1/2 lb char cheddar burgers, and we split a cheese fry. He also had a drink. I opted for water. Where do I start? *sigh* Water: very small cup Cheese fries: unseasoned fries with a goosh of melted cheese on top. If a fry wasn't touching the cheese, it was just a plain, unsalted, bland fry. 1/2 lb char cheddar burgers: 2 1/4 patties grilled to death. No flavor, no juiciness. Very bland and uninspired. Each patty was a quarter inch thick. I am not exaggerating. I taught math for over 20 years. I know a quarter inch when I see it. The total was $19.07 which to me is a lot when only 2 people are eating. We didn't even finish the fries. No reason to, as the cheesy ones were gone. There are other places like this that serve better food. We won't be back.

I love this place! The staff is super nice and funny, they take very good care of you, it's been the same group of guys for as long as I've been frequenting, which is about 4 years. The food is excellent for what it is, hot dogs, Italian beef, burgers, fries. Their shakes are the best in the area, I always have respect for a place that doesn't just squeeze sauce into vanilla ice cream for my chocolate or strawberry shakes. I highly recommend this for a quick lunch, the price is fantastic, and everything else matches.

I am completely in shock at the scores this place is getting. Dogs here are terrible & over priced and I figure most people who rate this place high are nostalgic for the original place but folks this ain't it. Must admit, never tried any of the other items on the menu.

    (1)
  • Alec C.

This place has been around for at least 25 years. I've been coming here since I was 5, and nostalgia aside, it's got some of the best meat in tube form aside from Superdawg, Portillo's, and Gene'n'Jude's. If you ever come here, don't ever placate the little angel on your shoulder and thing "maybe I should get the salads." No. Don't do it. Instead, look up at the menu; shift your gaze to the left most column and order a sausage. Any sausage, a burger, anything that will get you to think, that as soon as you complete your meal, you'll feel the need to lurch away from the table after a few hours feeling like Elvis in Vegas - fat, drugged, and completely out of it. Combine your meats with the cheese fries. The cheese will either be gooey, ooey, and melty, - the three dwarves that Snow White never really liked - or be grainy and lumpy as the cheddar cheese has only begun to melt. Take my advice, if you REALLy want the internal feeling that your heart dies a little bit by eating fatty goodness, order two polishes, cheese criss-cut fries, and a large diet. If I shorten my lifespan a few days every time I go here; I'll die younger, but know full well I've lived a heck of a more delicious life. Enjoy.

I just do not get it....places that start with a great item and recipe, then after a month change the quality. Its as if we were sucker punched! The Sloppy Joes started out great. Good quallity meat, good taste, and good consistency. Today I had to throw it out. It was inedible. The poorest of beef, no flavor at all. Its as if they chopped up a burger and added diluted ketchup. Do Not Waste your money on this item.

  • Cassie S.

Well hello future heart attack!! Future delicious, cheesy, greasy, yummy heart attack! Went here yesterday for the first time in a long time (maybe 5 years) and refreshingly it was still the same :) Same perfect hot dogs. Same giant onion rings. And most importantly, same cheesy fries! These are not your average nacho-cheese fries. No no no. These fries are topped with a delcious, greasy, if slightly clumpy cheddar cheese. And when you mix it with a little ketchup, well, heaven can't be far off!! Obviously you can't eat like this every day, but for the occasional treat, this north shore institution can't be beat!

Yes this is my hometown fast food joint that I grew up with so not only am I heavily biased but my taste buds were actually formed by this place. Burgers can vary as much as pizza or tacos or burritos but the style offered here I would say is as good as anywhere. They offer Vienna Beef Chicago hot dogs which are as authentic as anywhere. They use Merkt's cheese on their criss-cut cheese fries which is a must-try. I've never had anything that disappointed - they are one of the few restaurants that offer pizza puffs and also have gyro's and Italian beef. And now you can have Irving's shipped anywhere in the US?!? I'll always love my Irving's

Not the best Chicago dog I've had. Atmosphere is very lacking.

My teenagers LOVE this place. They often ask me to stop and get them something. It's affordable and when you have teenage boys who are hungry, it's nice to stop somewhere quick and let them fill up (without breaking the bank). I've had the dogs and the burgers, and they are AWESOME.

Fries are solid. Sauerkraut is bland; but overall a solid dog.

I eat there, or used to after my last visit. The owners would do well being on site and paying attention to their staff. Two of the employees were engaged and worked smoothly. The other seemed peeved to have to get up out of the booth he was sitting in. In the 10 minutes I was there, I was asked to repeat my order 4 times. Hot dog, everything, including hot peppers and a fry. I was not alone in my frustration as the woman in line in front of me had to repeat hers 3 times: A chilli dog with onions and a cheddar dog; see: 3 days later, I still remember. Another couple came in and part of their order was chicken fingers. The employees hadn't even had the presence of mind to remove them from their supermarket packaging. All of the above I can look past. Why I won't be returning is because the employee never washed his hands. Not once even after handling money. Dealbreaker. I tossed the hotdog and fries in the bin outside.

    1. I'm not coming here for "atmosphere" or anything of the like (it's a hot dog/fast food place so what do I expect). 2. I ate here years back when I worked in the North Shore & made a visit a while back. Nothing has changed and that's a good thing. 3. Cheese fries and onion rings- rock solid (I don't eat fries often and every now & then I'll hit the onion rings)!!! 4. I'm a fan of the Maxwell Polish (I'm a real sucker for a good Maxwell) & the burgers are also solid. Try the char-dog or the standard dog as well. I really just wanted to be brief (especially with so many other reviews). A decent place to eat if you're in the area. If you want to eat here, throw your diet out the window.

Oh Jesus. One of my five-star reviews that when I'm writing I begin to CRAVE the food. I LOVE THE ITALIAN BEEFS HERE. So good. SO GOOD! Easily on my top ten of places to get a good beef in Chicago. I would DEFINITELY make a special trip out here and actually have several times. I suggest you do the same! Fries are always good too. Pizza puffs, excellent. But the beef...oh the beef! Try it! You'll never be the same.

    (5)
  • Larry G.

Non-Vienna hot dogs here just don't do the job. It has okay italian beef but lousy skirt steaks. The french fries are mediocre. This is just a place for a quick bite if you are not particular.

I like this place a lot! Food is fresh, and made to order. Wait times are not long at all - even when there's a lot of customers. Would definitely go back again.

I'm only going to give 4 stars because I haven't had everything on the menu yet (although it all looks amazing) and because they are CASH ONLY. I wish I knew that before going in but no one mentioned that in a review. Got a regular Chicago style dog for my husband and he downed it in two seconds. I'm guessing they had a love connection of some sort. I ordered a grilled cheese (I know, I know. I ordered a grilled cheese at a hot dog place?!?) and it was fantastic. The fries were great and the service was unbeatable. I did not do the cheesy fries but will do so on my second trip. They take care of you quickly and efficiently. We will definitely be going here again and again!

Every time I go and visit my folks back home, I make a stop here. I loved this place as a teenager, and while I'm sure this place had changed a little in 15 years, I don't notice it one bit (some of the same guys are still behind the counter). I never walk out of this place without an order of the criss-cut (waffle) fries with cheese. The cheese is downright scary-looking, and you'll swear it glows in the dark, but once you start eating it, you cannot stop to save your life. Oh, and I definitely feel like eating salads for two days after getting lunch here, but it's oh so worth it.

Good, solid fast food outpost on the crossing of Lake, Skokie. Quick, efficient service. Fries are better than usual especially waffle fries. Cleaner than most similar places

I have been eating here for 20 years and I don't plan on stopping. The staff is great, the service is fast and efficient, and the food, well no one else in the area can compete(I'm looking at you U Dawg U). Jumbo char dog enough said. Highly recommended.

The place to go for well priced American fast food staples. I stop here whenever I feel like a cheeseburger and fries. It is, in my opinion, the best place to get dogs or a burger in the area. The staff are always friendly and patient. The service is also remarkably speedy, even for a fast food place. A couple of final words : stick to the main fare (burgers and dogs), and cash only.

Nice to see so many reviews of this spot Hands down the best cheese fries in the Chicagoland area, it's like greasy, hot, chunky Merkt's cheddar cheese And the hot dogs are flawless, some might condescend when a flawless hot dog is mentioned, but it's way to easy to screw up a hot dog and incredibly difficult to serve a perfect one (it's all about steam) Doug and Irving are the only two hot dog gentlemen I trust, and the guy running the home depot stand, they rock too

  • Y.D. K.

Very good hot dog and burger joint - though I usually have cheeseburgers here, the hot dogs are good too; boiled or grilled, and lots of condiments to put in. The grilled cheeseburgers are excellent in my book, and reminds me of a good barbecued burger, not like Burger King which tastes like **** since its very fast food and they switched their meat vendors/recipe. You can eat in or you can take out; though its too bad they scaled down from having at least 3 or 4 Irving's elsewhere, especially in downtown. Plenty of places to sit to eat. Not far away from the Edens/Lake Avenue on/off ramp, just a bit east from it in a small shopping strip on the southwest corner of Lake Ave and Skokie Blvd.

This is by far the greatest hot dog in the chicagoland area. Don't even get me started on their cheese fries and gyros! 100% LOVE LOVE LOVE Irvings!

Irving's For Red Hot Lovers will always have a special place in my heart. I've been coming here since I was 5 years old and it's still one of my favorite eateries in the ENTIRE world. In fact, for my birthday I get to pick anywhere I want my family to go and I've been known to pick this very establishment to celebrate another year of my life. My favorite is a cheesedog and cheesefries, it's seriously one of the best meals I've ever had. The staff is always so friendly, my dad was a regular here and as soon as he walked in the door they would all yell out his name. Yeah, it's that kind of place. Keep in mind that this is a hot dog joint and you should NOT be counting calories here. The food is heavy and you leave with a VERY satisfied fatkid feeling. Yum.

  • Eric L.

I've been going to Irving's for about 2 years now, and have learned to stick to the main things - dogs, polish sausages & burgers - and stay away from things like the tuna & patty melts. The dogs are done just right (and loaded to your specifications - but make sure to order the char dog!), the burgers are average, the criss-cut fries are great! The cheese fries are above average, as well. Super-attentive and friendly staff, fastfastfast service - if you're not ready to order the minute you go in (especially if you're there during the lunch rush), hang back away from the counter to give yourself a minute to peruse the menu, lest you be stomped by the crowd. Special Secret: GYROS. Who'da thunk it? A meal in itself... the lamb is DEE-freaking-licious! Worth the extra 4-5 minutes of cooking time!

    (4)
  • Kenny J.

Cheese fries to go are gross. We opened as soon as we made it to the car (literally 45 seconds from it leaving the counter) and the cheese was a dry clump sitting on the top of the fresh fries. Maybe he thought the fries would reheat the cheese ? Not so much.

Chalk up the 4 star rating to childhood nostalgia. There used to be an Irving's in Lincoln Village where dad would take me every Saturday when I was younger. That location eventually closed down, but lo and behold I end up going to high school down the street from Irving's Wilmette location. Back in the day my standard order was 2 red hots, ketchup only (GASP!) and criss-cut fries. I've grown up since then so now it's 2 red hots, 1 ketchup (for the inner kid in me) and 1 mustard-onion-pickle (still not ready for full blown Chicago style), and criss-cut fries. Loved it back then, still love it now.

What happened to them? They have really gone downhill. They used to be so great. Now they don't even serve Vienna hotdogs. They need to do things the way they did before.

Irving's is an average hot dog joint in Wilmette with the kind of food you would expect at a hot dog place. The hot dogs are large and quite meaty, and the inside of the restaurant is small and very casual. I used to enjoy stuffing myself silly here as a kid.

Meh, a bit overpriced. At least they're not as rude as they used to be. True cheddar cheese fries, not that crappy cheese from a can.

Cute name, sparse interior, and average food. Irving's tries very hard to convince you how great they are with various press clippings on the walls but I don't find their hot dogs better or worse than a dozen other places. Don't get me wrong, the food is fine, just nothing special. Personally, I'd drive about 2 miles further south on Skokie and go to Portillo's instead. Or for a mind-blowing hot dog experience, go to Hot Doug's in Chicago.

When my high school boyfriend and I used to go to Irving's, my mom used to say "Ohhh, are you two going to Irving's for RED HOT lovers?!" ...Get it? Good one mom. :) I love Irving's. Hot Dogs are delicious. Waffle cut fries are seasoned and yummy. Service is always fast, even if it's crowded.

This place is awesome. The atmosphere is a little sketchy, but the food it outstanding. All the employees are very nice and helpful. Hot dogs taste great, as do the hamburgers and fries. The banana milkshake is very artificial, although it is delicious. No refills on soda.

I came to this place expecting your average hot dog joint. Pros: The hot dogs were fine along with the fries, nothing special. Cons: really expensive for a hot dog joint. I ordered fries with cheese, one hot dog, and a small drink and it run me almost $7! The hot dog alone was $2.70, which is nuts. The cheese sauce was terrible, had the consistency of wet cement and was more like that cheese spread in a can. I probably won't come back but at least I can say I tried it.

I LOVE Irving's. I grew up eating at this place... The burgers and dogs are awesome and the fries are super yummy too. I swear, the same people work behind the counter as the ones when I was in junior high! It's a great family burger place in Wilmette. Check it out if you're in town!

Best hot dog in Chicago area!..and the criss-cut cheddar fries will kill you but you'll die happy. Um to the guy who said Portillo's instead...?...?...?...what??? A chain? No thanks. The same guys have been working at Irvings my whole life and it feels like family every time I go back. The hot dogs always have the perfect snap and their burgers and gyros are good too. It's not fancy but they have a few booths you can bring your food to.

Your standard Chicago hot dog place, but doesn't taste so good. They don't know how to make a good Chicago style hot dog. Their other menu items are not so good either. I recommend finding someplace else for hotdogs.

Irving's is a good place to grab a cheap lunch. The hot dogs are good and service is quick.
