Norshore Meats & Deli

421 Ridge Rd
Wilmette, 60091
Reviews:
The roomy, no-frills lobby area is perfect for meandering around for fifteen minutes trying to decide what to buy. And why waste a trip by getting just one item? I've been investigating local meat shops, and I really like Norshore. Prices are decent, and quality is very high. Last time, I got a nice pork tenderloin for $5.98/lb and a strip steak for $11.50 which turned out to be the best steak that I've ever cooked at home. Mmm mmm. They have polish sausage (B+) and bratwurst (A-) better than anything that you can get in a grocery store, both for $3.79/lb. The Italian sausage is very good too; I used some in my last batch of chili (go for the hot, which isn't very spicy, instead of the regular). What DON'T they have here? Besides the regular meats, there are marinated chicken breasts, twice-baked potatoes, pies, 2-lb meatloaf already in an aluminum baking pan ($7.98!), homemade chili, a handful of deli meats and cheeses...plus about fifty other things that I'm forgetting.
Norshore is Great for a lot of reasons, but having the hands down best skirt steaks around doesn't hurt! Also the best ground chuck (which they will add fat to and grind to order for me) and the best Prime Rib also... No kidding. I re-discovered them when buying chuck at various vendors to make a great burger. They had the best and I went from there. The prime rib I just had for Christmas was astounding and everybody at my table thanked me for it. 12 pounds of wonder! The brisket I recently smoked was likewise wonderful. Gail, Mike and Ed are siblings and it's been a family business for a long time. They know what they're doing. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays just FYI.
Been shopping here for years. Always top quality and it has to be the cleanest butcher shop in the world. Everything is great, including the frozen meat and chicken.

For grub food with the friendliest service, here you'll find a very basic menu with a few items on it and a wall full of historical photos from years gone by. Next to the Wilmette Theater, if you don't look closely, you'll most likely miss this tiny diner. And, if you do happen to find it, take note that there are only a few seats. Today I stopped in for a work meeting. I loved the juxtaposition of ordering up a burger from behind the counter and then having the young co-owner, Sasha D, offer to take my coat and hang it up for me. Five star service for sure! So, I ordered a cheeseburger. Patties are super duper thin. Honestly, it's the first thin patty like this I've seen - ever, but the truth is it's probably all the meat I needed. I did get it on a pretzel bun, and then ordered up a side of sweet potato fries which were lightly crispy and pretty tasty. I hear the polish is good and the gyros are supposed to be the bomb, but I wasn't 100% sure what to order when I stopped in today. This place has history, and that's truly the appeal. Here you want to come in and support this long-standing business, because you just want it to stay around for the children of the future. Fun stop, but like Tasha P says about the burgers, "if you're an adult you should go with a double." They are huge Yelp fans here, and on the front door you'll see a bunch of Yelp stickers. Another plus for me.
This place is so good is makes me drool just thinking about it. From the food to the friendly service, this place is a winner. Great local establishment. Whatever you get, get it with gyro meat and get two of them because you will want another one right away. Heck, get one to go. Vlasnik preduzeća je veoma atraktivna! And don't forget to show some love to Tony.
been goiing here for years. Love the place best hamburgers and fries.

This is a pickup location only, order ahead for fresh hot pizza, or pick out something from the case. Used to be a regular place for us when we lived up here. It's staffed by friendly neighborhood college kids.
Lou's is my go to pizza joint when back home in Chicago. I ordered a couple deep dish pies on this trip and was very disappointed. All crust very little cheese. Not the Lou's I know and love. I'll post a profile picture of one of the slices. You can do better than this, I know you can.
My Godfather used to send me box of 5 frozen Malnati's pies at Xmas that were great. Out of the oven live and in person so much better. Chicago Special - simple basic and fantastic. Only problem - ate 4 slices and couple days later was hungry again.

i eat at this subway all the time, i actaully have a hard time finding them on yelp to check in which i think is odd. first - make sure you get a punch card, you get a free 6 inch after 8 sub purchases. as for the store, its one of the cleaniest fast food places i have been to. and its clean on a consistant basis. the owner is a really nice guy. Their veggie selection is usually really good quality as compared to other subways where you can tell stuff has been sitting for a while. i think they do a lot of business which keeps the food fresh. the sandwich makers are generally very friendly, sometimes the cashier can be a little on the down side but it doesn't take away from the other areas. for being a subway this is well run store. use caution around lunch time, it can be packed and have a lond wait.
Poor service. Ran out of onions and don't even know how to make their new sandwiches.
The owner Alex is the best! A subway is a subway, but ownership varies drastically from location to location. The staff here is outstanding and it's my regular escape from work. There isn't much else to say, but if you are torn on a Subway location go here since you are supporting a young hardworking owner.

sushi is the bomb here. 'nuff said.
Was very disappointed when I got here. Reading some of the reviews I guess I expected too much in terms of quantity and variety of items. This place would be more like what I would expect in Tulsa not a bigger city. Mitsuwa a much better shopping spot. If you live in the area and needed something it would be ok but def not worth a trip from anywhere else in the city.
Love this place! Like the previous comments have said, it has a little bit of everything. Perfect place to buy all the needed ingredients to make sushi at home! The staff is very helpful and understanding. They even go the extra mile to even explain alternatives and offer suggestions. Now, they sell Japanese hair products, make-up, facial-moisture packs, which works wonderfully for me. I also tried their smoothies and bubble shakes, and it tastes great. I love the added tapioca! Definitely recommend to stop by if you're ever in Wilmette

Really happy to welcome this place to Wilmette and have another lunch since there aren't a lot of good ones. Had a late a great late lunch here this weekend. The small plate menu delighted us with salads, skewers and flatbreads. The roasted carrots and arugula salad with goat cheese was excellent. It had a very light vingerette on it that balanced the flavor well. We had two flatbreads at the table and both were good - my favorite was the Pesto Chicken and Goat cheese. The three cheese with honey and tyme was standard enough for my son but had a nice twist in flavor to take it up a notch. The Pepper Crusted Steak and Mushroom skewers were the table favorite with a great creamy garlic dipping sauce on the side. The steak meat was quality, cooked medium and flavorful. Save room for dessert - I loved the panna cotta with cherries - it was rich and super creamy. A bit worried I'll start craving it and keep going back. The homemade cookies with carmel sauce were good. The carmel sauce tasted a bit burnt to me but maybe they were going for a more butterscotch flavor. Was excited to see they also offer takeout food, premade lasagnes, pastas, salads and dressings. We'll be back often I'm sure.
Great variety and delicious food. I often stop on the way home from work and in five minutes I have a healthy meal that my whole family loves. Everything is really fresh and the service is excellent. Try the chicken and mushroom lasagna, it's incredible!
Fantastic food and service. I regularly stop at the Noodle Small Plates & Market during the week for lunch. Just the right amount of food at reasonable prices. The flat breads and skewers are perfect. The evening menu has more items, the wine list is extensive...and they have several craft beers. The evening atmosphere is very relaxing.

While I have read a lot of reviews for lunch, I have only been to dinner here twice and both times I have vowed to return. The pasta is indeed fresh and very good and I love the ability to pair the sauces. This past Friday, I had the shrimp, scallops and mushroom white wine sauce over spinach fettuccine. It was very good but perhaps could have used a bit more red pepper flakes to spice it up. I am sure I wanted it more spicy as I must admit my finace ordered the better dish of the two. As a special that evening, a perfectly cooked paella loaded with seafood was the hit of the evening. The wine selection is always interesting and I am hoping I can save room for dessert next time. It is a very cozy place and while it can get loud at times, a perfect date place on a quiet street close to home.
I silently pooh-poohed the idea of needing to make a reservation for some place called "The Noodle" in downtown Wilmette at 6:30 on a Tuesday evening...but I was wrong. It's a small dining room and quite popular with the locals. Even with the outdoor seating area to augment the capacity, new guests were being quoted twenty- or thirty-minute waits. Further refuting my expectations was the menu: I had imagined a boring red-sauce joint, but the menu was pleasantly diverse. They have numerous "choose your pasta and your sauce" selections, but the other sections offer tasty-sounding options as well, such as pork tenderloin, italian sausage and peppers, and several seafood dishes. Plus I was sorely tempted by some of the weekly specials, such as the stuffed trout. But I was in a light-eating mood and ordered the gourmet garden salad with grilled chicken. They made a typo on their menu: it should say "chicken with gourmet salad" as all the greens in my bowl were obscured by the two massive chicken breasts atop. Egregious ingredient imbalance aside, it was a great salad--fresh, delicious, and nicely enhanced by the creamy garlic dressing. I ate my fill and ended up taking almost half of it home. I undermined the healthy tenor of my dinner by sampling the gorgonzola potato chip appetizer (thankfully less gorgonzola-y than expected), the garlic bread (heavily buttered, simple but fantastic), the vegetable risotto (delightful cheesy flavor combined with awesome grilled vegetables), and half a piece of carrot cake (a-okay). So, I'm sorry for underestimating you, Noodle. I'll happily return anytime that my Wilmette dinner-buddies want to.
What can you say about a place that does it right all the time? The menu is varied and the food is always good. There are some all-time favorites like the shrimp, scallop and mushroom pasta with tasty bay scallops and pleanty of shrimp. The rock cornish hen was the best I have ever tasted. The wine list is complete and the garlic (free) bread is the best I have ever had. A great neighboorhood place with friendly staff and outdoor seating in the warm weather months. A must stop if you are on the north Shore.

Reviews:
Best sushi I've found on the North Shore. Let me qualify this: I'm a sushi snob who always prefers city sushi and I've tried nearly every place from Glencoe to Evanston in search of something vaguely reminiscent of said city sushi. This is it.
Akira has some of the best sushi around. Their signature rolls are original and delicious, and the portions of fish are generous for the price. Be sure to call for reservations, even on a weeknight. The restaurant is small, and it's always better to be safe than sorry. Keep an eye out for their Groupons, which are always a good deal.
Amazing find! Best sushi lunch anywhere. We've been coming to this place for about three years and love every dish we've tried. Friendly and professional staff headed by the owner, Akira and his wife. Come and enjoy good, fresh sushi in a neighborhood setting

I find myself temporarily a resident of Wilmette, which sort of makes me nervous cus I'm not all high-falutin. Fortunately, when I want to go slumming I can put on my jammies and order pizza from Domino's online. Both times I've ordered, I've gotten my pizza in 20 minutes flat. Seriously. Admittedly, I'm less than a mile down the road. But still! That's some seriously fast pizza.
It's not PC to like Domino's in Chicago but I don't care. It fits a niche in the cheap pizza market and I actually do like the new recipe. The franchisor/manager at this location is super friendly too. Of course they have Two for Tuesday which is always nice.
Fast delivery and very inexpensive for the quality and quantity of food provided. It's also fun to build the pizza in the online ordering system. We look forward to our next order.
