I went to Firehouse Subs on a weekday for lunch. They have a very unique sandwich and it's perfect when you're craving a warm toasted sandwich. I've been here a few times and I've always been pretty happy with the overall experience. They have a many different choices when it comes to the sandwiches. I am a big fan of the under 500 calorie subs. Last time I ordered the sriracha beef...very good but it's got a kick!! Woah!! Today I ordered the hook & ladder light sub. I was very happy with the sandwich-- plenty of meat and full of flavor. The staff seems friendly and professional. They ask if you would like to "round up" when ordering. That money goes towards a local fire department. Great idea! The restaurant seemed clean but the service was pretty slow. We were there for an early lunch and I was surprised at how long it took. This would not be the best place to eat if you're pressed for time. If you have plenty of time and you're craving a warm sub-- Firehouse is a great choice!

My food was great but I'm not really happy with the overall experience. Since I've only been to a Firehouse once, I asked for a recommendation. I was told to just look at the menu and the ones with the numbers were the specialty items. I'm not sure if the guy working was unfamiliar with the menu or just wanted to rush me through the line, but a personalized touch or friendly demeanor would have went a long way. I came in at about 12:30 on a weekday and it was packed. I don't recommend coming at that time if you're in a hurry. They did apologize for the wait which was nice but I ended up being late back from my lunch break. I ordered the Philly steak add mushrooms on wheat. It was fabulous! I loved the grilled peppers and mushrooms on anything always make it taste great. Since my food was delicious, I'll be back soon. This location is really convenient whenever you need a break from doing all that shopping at Danada.

They have a great selection of sandwiches, especially low calories options. I enjoyed their hook & ladder and the tuna subs. Good service too.

When I went in with my family, I felt immediately uncomfortable by what seemed to be a new manager. She was cold towards me, and almost gave me grief for having multiple requests for a specialized sandwich. She then proceeded to be aggressive and hostile with her other employees and flat out mean to a shorter girl working there as well, the rest of our meal there was more then uncomfortable as we sat as she continued to boss around the other worker. This is not a model for what management should be and i implore the management to reprimand this person as I have no intent to return until she is dealt with. The food was more than delicious and the turkey and cheese was cooked to perfection, its a shame the food is tainted by the unacceptable behavior of this person

Okay, so I went to partake in the free birthday sandwich, but also because I had been meaning to go to Firehouse for some time so it was a convenient excuse. Ladies, this is clearly where all the dudes are at lunchtime in Wheaton. So do with that what you will. It's also where you can find excellent service and good food. I wasn't big on the touted cherry limeade (too syrupy sweet) but the steak and cheese sandwich was good. I like hot sandwiches and there were a number of options that I would be willing to try, so I should be back! If you have a five alarm hunger, head to Firehouse for some fine food!

I lived close-by several years back and frequented Firehouse Subs. I was finally in the area over the weekend and stopped in. Not too crowded for a Saturday at lunch time. Prepare to wait a bit for your sandwich to be made (maybe 5-7 minutes). Can't go wrong with the New York Steamer - Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, deli mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing. Not very healthy but delicious none the less. Solid lunch spot!

I like a lot of things about Firehouse. I like their food and what they stand for. A nice clean restaurant serving honest food to support the men and women of our fire department. Consider me a loyal customer. To start, I love hot subs. This is part of the reason I constantly come back. Whether you order a regular or large, you're getting a good size sandwich and shouldn't leave hungry. My favorite is the Engineer on wheat. The bread is great, good flavor and a solid consistency. They put just enough meat and cheese to make a man happy. After you get your sandwich you can light it on fire. (No? Too soon?) they have TONS of sauces to add to your sandwich. Have fun experimenting and finding ways to completely change the flavor of your sub. They also have those futuristic coke machines that could mix endless varieties of pop, teas and lemonade.

This place is awesome. The staff was really friendly and the place was pretty clean. When we walked in, I anticipated it to be a subway, jersey mike's-type place that just throws your sub together in front of you and shoves you out the door, but I have to say that these guys actually put effort into making our sandwiches. My boyfriend and I had been driving around forever looking for that restaurant that would hit the spot. We figured we would give this place a try and we were not let down. I would have been so disappointed if I had gotten a lousy, gross sub. But the sandwich was delicious and totally hit the spot! We found our new sandwich joint for sure. Thanks for the great food!

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. It's a chain so I wasn't expecting much, maybe along the lines of Jimmy Johns or something. My cranberry turkey sandwich was ok. The turkey was hot and fresh but the bread was kind of chewy. They were out of salad and brisket which seemed kind of strange. Place needed a good sweep and clean up. Young kids only behind the counter. It took longer than I expected for my one sandwich. Probably will not return.

Firehouse subs is a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. When you walk in they say, "welcome to fire" which is nice to be greeted when you walk in the door. The decor has a lot of local fireman clothing and items which is fun for the kids to look at. We really enjoy their hook and ladder or Italian sandwich. The sandwiches are toasted and they put all kinds of stuff on it so we just get them however they come. Our kids love the kids meals and to top it off they get a free plastic fireman hat. Who wouldn't love that :) plus they just added salads to the menu, haven't tried one yet but looking forward to it! Update: we ordered carry out today and I must say it was very soggy. First time doing that. Guess it's a place you need to eat at since they toast their subs.

This is the favorite sub spot for Son #1. Although his school is right across the street from a Jimmy John's, he considers it a big compromise for his Firehouse. He says there is no comparison. He gets the Italian Sub with no onions and is in heaven! It's a great size, with great flavor and really fresh bread. Yes, you have to wait a few minutes to get it, but it's totally worth it. I don't eat a ton of sub sandwiches, but I can tell what he is talking about. The bread is soft, the meat here is really fresh as well as all the toppings. This is the only place I like to eat them. Those other sub places just can't compare!

I visited this location three times, and each time I tried to convince myself that it will be a better visit. I figure the place is always packed and it stands for something great, so maybe I have just ordered the wrong things. The first time I visited, they were out of chicken salad. I asked them what other sandwiches were available cold as I was in a rush to get back to work, and I'm pretty sure I confused the lady at the front counter because I still ended up with a hot sandwich after waiting FOREVER. Something didn't sit right and I found myself eating about a dozen tums while I proceeded to wait for my shift at work to end. The second time I visited, it was due to being awarded a free sub because I dropped my business card in their fishbowl. I tried the cheddar barbeque brisket sandwich, and let me say... that sandwich was delicious. But I could easily get a better one from Portillos or even Buona Beef with much better flavor. Regardless, it was free, and so I'm sure that made it taste even better. After my 3rd visit ( with a friend), I will not be back. They had a sign stating "best meatballs guaranteed" when you walk in the front door. Far from the truth. Jewel frozen meatballs are better. And their marinara sauce tasted like something out of a microwave dinner. I split that and had half of the Italian as well, and while the sandwich was tasty, I again faced not only an afternoon of scarfing down tums, but my stomach was completely messed up for the rest of the night. 3rd time was not a charm.

A nice, tasty and cheesy meatball sub can be had here for $5.89.

Always friendly staff when I call in my order and pick up! But sometimes they don't make it until I get there... which defeats the purpose of me calling ahead. I understand they want it to be fresh but I do call for a reason... Anyway, I always get the Steak and Cheese on Wheat Bread. It's pretty good and my dad loves it! My mom likes the New York Pastrami/Reuben. Not a big fan of the Firehouse Hero.

Waited over 25 minutes for subs I ordered before I left. Way too long for fast food. This was after asking 15 minutes in what was happening with order. Saw people get food who ordered after me. Process is not working.

This is my favorite sub spot! The staff is friendly and remembers my order. They work quickly and efficiently. They also a large variety of mild to holy crap that's really hot, sauces. I recommend the cheddar brisket, but really any of the subs are great. Pricing is reasonable and pretty much what you'd expect, but the flavor, quality, and outstanding customer service is what keeps me coming back. Keep up the great work!

I have to say this is my favorite location! I go there often for lunch, sometimes dinner, and have occasionally catered from this store when throwing/going to parties. I've always had great service-quick food and well-mannered employees. It's an easy place to stop by when you're in a hurry. Not to mention the food is terrific as well. I would recommend the Hook & Ladder or the Steak & Cheese. I've tried the salads and they're actually fresh! Out of all the other stores I've been to, this one's given me the best experiences. Friendly atmosphere, great food, and the staff is efficient at getting food made fast and correctly.

Firehouse Subs is by far my favorite subs place! With all the other sub and sandwich places around I'll always venture a little further to get Firehouse. I love the Hook & Ladder for my healthier option. If I feel like splurging I'll get the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket. Firehouse has also become my favorite post-race lunch spot after a 5K or 10K event. The Coca Cola Freestyle machine is just one other fun reason to go to Firehouse. Trying new flavor combinations adds a little excitement. The one thing I will say is make sure you are specific if you're picky about condiments. I hate mayo, mustard, pickles, etc. I forgot to have them leave off mustard last time. My own fault, but it'd be nice if that wasn't standard.

I absolutely love this place. I tried it in Florida. On my return to Illinois I discovered there were two Forehouse Subs being built near me. Wish there was one in Bolingbrook. The smokehouse brisket and cheddar sandwich absolutely melts in your mouth it is unbelievably delicious . I also enjoy the Hawaiian King sandwich which is like pork coleslaw and mustard it's amazing

Was in there today, around 5pm (sunday). I wanted a quick sandwich. Quick was obviously not on their menu today. There was no one but me awaiting a sandwich. There were two workers that I saw- The first took my order and money (then went to sit and eat his sandwich) A second employee who was doing everything BUT making my sandwich. After 15 min went buy - he started to make my sandwich. Sandwich was OK, probably would have given it a 3, but with the service, it got a one. This was my first visit and sorry to say, my last.

I'd rather go to Panda Express than this place. Service was AMAZING! The quality of the bread and meat didn't get me. This place is not on fire in my opinion!

Visited today for the first time and was very optimistic about it. It took forever to receive my sandwich and there was only one other order ahead of me and to be honest, it is pretty expensive for the small sub you get. The only good part of the sandwich was the bread. I'll definitely be sticking to Jersey Mikes in the future

One of my friends recommended Firehouse Subs so I decided to give them try. We ordered a meatball sub which was decent, definitely better than Subway's. We also ordered the New York steamer made with corned beef brisket, pastrami & provolone cheese. The New York steamer was a big disappointment. I had issues with the flavor and the sub roll. I personally like a firm & crispy sub roll. Also they tend to want to put Mayo on most of their sandwiches like the Steak & Cheese and the New York steamer. Yuck! I thought they were a bit price for the quality of the meat. You can go to Jason's Deli or Schmatlz and get a much better sandwich for about the same price.

Good subs. Poorly run. 1) it's super creepy hearing 1012 welcome to firehouse everytime people walk into the door. It's annoying and the fake enthusiasm is on full display 2). ASK PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT ON THEIR SUBS. Not that hard, yet they always mess it up even when I'm upfront about it. If subway can do it, you can do it. I promise.

So I came here randomly because I thought Outback was open for lunch (it's not btw). So while driving around, this place caught my eye from the outside. Came in and it was crazy packed. It was lunch time so be weary of when you decide to go. Walked in and was greeted by the whole staff which is pretty nice. I wasn't sure what to get, but their signature sub seemed to be the Hook and Ladder. It was alright, pretty much just a normal sub. Had a lot more meat that other places though, but then again it was more expensive too. Somewhere around 8.50 for a footlong. A cool thing was that they had a lot of hot sauces that you can try. And I mean a lot. I have a good chipotle flavored one. Good place. Had a cool coke machine too. Will probably come back here if someone chooses it, but i'd rather go with a cheaper sub somewhere else as a first choice.

I put this chain right down below with the rest of the processed food eateries. It cost a half a C-Note for 5 large subs. My biggest problem is the lack of attentiveness from the staff. Considering it was my first time there, they did not offer any suggestions. I ordered a New York Steamer for myself. I asked for everything on it and received a basic sandwich. So it comes with Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, deli mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing. I also wanted the extras like onions and tomato which I why I said everything. I called and the employee stated I got everything. Ok, maybe I have to explain myself better to teenagers. As for the taste, it was fair. Nothing to write home about. My son had the Turkey Bacon Ranch and did not finish it. This is a boy living at his college and welcomes outside food. He told me next time to frequent another chain. My daughter took one bite and put it back in the bag saying, "Maybe it will be better curing overnight in the fridge". For the money and how they promote Fireman Owned and how they cook for themselves at the station, I expected better than what they delivered. Most likely will not give them another chance.

This place was pretty good! We left feeling like we had some pretty tasty sandwiches (the expectation). I ordered the veggie (per usual) and it was served with these incredible grilled onions and peppers that were excellently seasoned, melted provolone, mustard, lettuce, and mushrooms. It was served warm. I think they steam their sandwiches. Pretty unique. My husband had the Hook & Ladder and really enjoyed it as well. Super tasty and similar to a Quiznos. Although, they were a tad more expensive than a Quiznos since they are always offering coupons and this place doesn't, it seems. The new Coke machine is there and there are a large variety of chips. There are also about 30 different kinds of hot sauce for you to use while there. Makes for a fun addition. Still doesn't beat the unlimited pickles and peppers at Quiznos with coupons......... but still pretty darn tasty. We will return if we're in the area. Definitely stands in the yum and unique category. Also, free subs on your birthday! I'm part of their e-club and they don't even require an email to print... just show up ON your birthday and show them your ID for a free medium sub.

Tried the Italian Sub, disappointed. Not much meat. Took forever to make, I was the only customer. Subway is much better! Mr. Submarine is much better overall! I try all the sub shop once, I will not be returning to Firehouse Subs!

My Aunt brought us here one day for lunch. The service was awesome. Everyone here was very friendly. The food was good. Great drink selection. I ordered the smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket. I believe my sister and dad ordered the engineer sub, my mom ordered a steak and mushroom sub, while my aunt ordered a tuna sub. Everyone enjoyed their subs. My mom didn't know her order was made without lettuce and tomatoes. But we asked and they kindly added the vegetables. They offered a generous amount of meat in the sandwiches and everyone was satisfied. They have a neat fountain drink machine. It is digital and has a touch screen. This proved to be a problem because being newcomers we couldn't decide what we wanted to drink which caused a line since there was only one drink fountain to select from. I ended up getting the strawberry lemonade which was pretty good. My dad loved the cherry limeade so much he mentioned it the next day when we were eating at another restaurant. I am not exposed to many good submarine sandwich places living in Hawaii. But I've been to Firehouse Subs and Jersey Mike's and both are pretty good. 4 stars!

I work in the same plaza as this place and LOVE IT! Before moving to Wheaton I had no idea this place even existed. My grandfather was a Chicago fire fighter and its like someone took his collection of memorabilia and made a restaurant. Love it, and will ofcourse continue to be a cucustomer!

I had the NY Steamer and it was pretty tasty. A warmed sandwich that had plenty of meat and they skipped the shredded iceberg (yay!). I like their subs better than Quizno's but they are a little pricey.

5 stars for the subs cheese-y decor. the table look like dalmatians. it was cool looking at the fire and police badges from around the state. after going to subway all the time, it was good to eat something else. veggie sub was awesome. about the price as subway. but firehouse subs put some ingredients on the subs that subway DOES NOT. mushrooms, and Italian dressing........yummmm.

I love it! I'm in there every time I'm up on Butterfield. The food is delicious! I think they have made a good sandwich that stands out from the larger chains. It has that crispy outside/gooey inside that potbelly brags about, but I'd say there's a lot more gooey-ness which I love. And the ham is the best I've taste in a sandwich joint. The Best. Biggest downside is that stupid coke machine. I get that it's cool and that's probably the newest thing in pop-technology, but I love cherry coke and I swear to god these machines ruin the flavor of the cherry-ness. But I understand why they'd have that pop machine, and I can live with plain old coke- their sandwiches are just that good :)

  • Michelle I.

Good sub sandwich place! Basically the same concept as Subway but nicer! They don't have much to chose from besides subs. The meats and cheeses used are much better quality than your average Subway or even Jimmy Johns. Run and owned by firemen. Good fresh concept!! A hell of a lot cheaper than Jersey Mike's!

If you're not eating the brisket from Firehouse Subs then you are simply not living. It's one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Add to that the speed that it's made, the awesome atmosphere of the restaurant, and the fact that they give so much to firefighters...well...this place is pretty amazing. Just typing this makes me hungry!

Made my salad to exacting specs. Tasted tested chili which was terrific. Plan to order on next visit. Very helpful and attentive professional staff. Wins my "best atmosphere in a sandwich shop" award. Fun firehouse staff lexicon! Recommend.

love love this place, my favorite is the meat ball with hot peppers (its my thing, I know it's weird) my husband discovered this place while on his way home from work in the city . we could not agree were to get food from and we wanted something different . he got the BBQ beef and I had the Turkey bacon and ranch. now the only complaint I had was the bread was a bit soggy due to it being toasted and being taken to go, sandwich was in a bag for a good 15 but it still tasted good , (same thing happens at subway if you get a toasted sub to go) We now eat there In house to avoid any sogginess . Screw subway and their over processed crap !!! Eat fresh my ass!! This place I can see the fresh deli meat and everything is fresh !! Also their chili is to die for!!

Everything about this deli is fanatastic, they have the most outstanding genuinely friendly people working there and the food is tasty, unlike other sub places.

Basic sub...nothing special. I ordered a turkey breast on wheat. I didn't know until after I ordered it that all subs are 'hot' by default, unless you order tuna or chicken salad. It does say that on the menu board, I just didn't notice. If I would have known I would have asked for it 'cold'. It's not like it was still warm when I got back to the office, it was a little soggy. I asked for no mayo, but I think they held the mustard also, so it was dry. The sub reminded me of a turkey on wheat at Potbelly's, but Potbelly's is better. Jimmy John's is also much better, as is Quizno's (although the one by work & the one by my home have both closed). And of course anything is better than Subway. I will probably give Firehouse Subs another try - this time for a cold sub & extra mustard.

Have been here twice. First time was pretty good with no complaints. Second time was on 9/10/10 and it was horrible. Long wait for food, subs were soggy (bread was really wet and gross) and lettuce was wilted. No pickles were given. Had to ask twice for limes and the Cherry Limeade was out which is their "signature" drink. $20 for three regular size subs that were barely edible = no return visit.

Good place for lunch. The place was packed when I walked in and people kept coming! I got a really tasty sandwich that had three types of meat, this made for a really nice flavor. They have your normal chip selection to go along with your sandwich, nothing fancy there. The drink selection was also your typical Coke products, but what caught my eye was cherry lime soda. So I got it. Bad mistake, this stuff tastes like overly sweetened cherry juice. Way too sweet. Overall I really liked the sandwiches and I'll be back.

I love this new sandwich place, it has the little things that the other places don't and offering something new is always good for an extra star. I went with a premium sub - the steak and cheese before I realized that there were less expensive more basic subs on the menu as well. The steak and cheese was good, but it had a lot of stuff on it that I would have rather went without (green peppers, onions) so next time I will just get the basic sandwich. They had a lot of good sandwiches to choose from and I love that they are all served warm - who doesn't love a warm sandwich. The bread is good, which is really important to me - other newer sandwich places (Jersey Mike's) have used the wrong bread, which completely ruins the sandwich for me. One of my favorite things about this place is their Cherry Limeade. It is really good - and they give you fresh limes to put into your drink; very refreshing. The one thing I didn't love about this place - the "Welcome to Firehouse" that was screamed when I walked through the door. I get that they are trying to make you feel welcome, but I don't need attention to be drawn to the fact that I am here to stuff my face.

Firehouse Subs is my new restaurant discovery. Evidently, we Midwesterners are way behind - we missed the bus on both 5 Guys and Firehouse Subs - but I'm thinking that I can probably keep this location of Firehouse Subs in business by myself. It's that good. I decided to pick up a sub from there on my lunch hour today. When I walked in, the restaurant was kind of smoky, which I'm still not sure about - maybe from all the wonderful meat cooking, or maybe it's supposed to be since it's fire-house themed? Anyway, I ordered a #5 - I believe it's called an Engine Ladder and has turkey breast and roast beef. I paid my $9 (ouch - but I lost my mind and ordered a large sub for some reason... guess my stomach was bigger than my eyes) and was on my merry way in about 10 mins. It was kind of a long time to wait for take out, so I was really prepared to be disappointed when I got back to my office and opened it up. I was not. At all. In any way. The roast beef on the sandwich was perfectly cooked and still contained some of those wonderful roast-beef-y juices, which was promptly and appropriately soaked up by the fresh, grainy whole wheat bread. I often find when eating a submarine sandwich that the bread overpowers the flavor of the meat and sauces (ahem... Subway), but this had a perfect balance. The turkey breast was also juicy and fresh... and I even loved the mustard they served on the sandwich. The whole thing was served warm and toasty, which is another reason not to order a large unless you're REALLY hungry and can eat it all in one sitting - I was forced to reheat the 2nd half and scrape off microwaved lettuce - yuck. All in all, great experience and I will be back soon!

Got a mailer for a free medium sub and have been wanting to try this place out. So I ordered the turkey sub and a combo (opo and chips). Now if I was paying, these subs are smaller than Subway's 6 inch. And I wouldn't be happy. It was just okay. I will agree with the other poster that I believe Potbelly is better than Firehouse any day. The sandwich was nothing special at all. Just a normal sub, nothing I would rush back here for. But you can't beat free! It was a great way to try it out though...I'd go back but the prices are a little crazy so it wouldn't be a regular place for me. I liked the Firehouse themed decor. It was packed in here! You could barely move so I guess many love this place!

I went into this Firehouse Subs located in Dananda last night around 8:30 pm wanting a late, fast dinner. I stood at the counter by the cash register for 10 minutes while the only employee in the shop talked to 2 DuPage County Sheriff officers. This employee never looked around to see if anyone needed help because he was single mindedly engaged in a one way conversation with these officers. Apparently if you are a law enforcement officer or fireman, you get special attention in here. If you are an average citizen, stay away because they completely ignore you. After standing there for 10 minutes without so much as an acknowledgement much less actual assistance in placing an order, I walked out. Two employees were outside finishing their break. I told them that no one ever helped me and that I was leaving. The reason they even get one star is that one of those employees said can I help you? But alas, it was too late at that point. I went down the street to Jersey Mikes where they helped me immediately when I walked through the door. Steer clear of this place if you want fast service, or any service at all! This was such a disappointing first visit for me that there will be no more future visits. For servicing law enforcement they may want to pay closer attention to the motto, protect and "serve".
