This is a great staple for Saturday morning breakfasts. They have a great variety of breakfast items and lunch. I always get either their scramblers or skillets and I love them both. But I can never go without their chocolate chip pancakes! Those things are legit cakes and they're amazing. Love coming here!

Fresh coffee and fast service is always appreciated. Simple breakfast orders last week: ham/cheese omelet, fresh fruit and friend had spinach/feta/bacon omelet. Very tasty and prompt with refills of coffee even remembering 1 caffeine n 1 decaf. Will return as again.

Service was very good. I had the buttermilk pancakes and chicken sausage. Both were pretty good. The price of food was priced appropriately. I would go back again if I were in the area.

Wouldn't bother going back. It was like eating at a chain restaurant. Service was slow, she was pleasant but lost in space. Waffle was ok, banana nut french toast was horrible. OJ was excellent though.

You know how sometimes you walk into a pancake house and walk out with your entire future changed, irrevocably, for the better? Well, that is what happened to me at Butterfield's. Come for the pancakes, stay to have your fate altered! It's like a heartwarming rom com, only with way more syrup. If you love breakfast for breakfast and/or breakfast for lunch, Butterfield's is the place to go. There are a few locations open now across the 'burbs (and if I'm not mistaken, a new one opening soon in Villa Park). They are all consistently delicious, and offer a huge variety of gourmet breakfast items. This location also recently added on a nice large sun room addition to the side of the building for extra seating, and on sunny days it is lovely to sit in and enjoy the rays. Though I've enjoyed everything that I've tried at Butterfield's, my favorites are the good old fashioned pancakes and fresh-squeezed OJ. I've never had better OJ than theirs - I'm not sure how they make it so good! The pancakes are thick and fluffy and melt in your mouth, and they give you so many. Prices are fair, and even though the place is hopping on the weekends, you won't have to wait too long with their new addition. I only wish that they were open later so that I could satisfy my occasional breakfast for dinner craving! And, if you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, this is the place where I first met my husband and will therefore always hold a special place in our hearts. We go back for pancakes every August 31st, to celebrate our fateful pancake day!

I have lived in this area for years and heard lots about this place and how great it is. Positives: Orange juice is amazing. I had two glasses. The food is fantastic and fresh. Very original menu with taste that truly delivers. The food has to be what keeps people coming back because I don't see how anything else possibly can. I met my dining companions late and as I arrived she was dropping off drinks and coffee. She never asked me what I wanted to drink as I sat down. We ordered our food almost right away. We waited nearly a half hour for our food to arrive. Other tables who arrived after us received their food before we did. After getting my Nutella french toast the waitress came by and asked if there was anything wrong with our food. I showed her the hair and she didn't even make a comment! She didn't make any attempt to fix the situation. Didn't even apologize. We were done eating for at least 10 minutes before she brought the check. We arrived at 9:30, it was 10:20 when we got our food. 11 by the time we paid. Of course I needed to use the bathroom before I left. Not pleasant at all. It is freezing in there! Papers towels everywhere. With what they charge for food they can afford to Stock the bathroom. The entire restaurant itself was very drafty and I was freezing the entire time I was there. Won't be returning anytime soon. Here it is all about the food. They lack, service, manners, and punctuality.

After several visits to Butterfields, I must say that I do enjoy it. I can be packed at times, like most breakfast spots, but when the wait isn't too long, it's definitely worth stopping by. I've had their various french toasts which are all good, their pancakes are delicious, and most recently I had cheesy grits with poached eggs which were really very nice. Service has always been friendly, and prices seem fair.

Alright, it's official, we've at long last found our breakfast place!! Started with a 10 minute wait, then to the back we go. Hubs got the farmers skillet with chocolate chip pancakes (he said it had fresh ingredients, big fatty pieces of mushrooms) and I got the jambalaya omelet with chocolate chip pancakes and a side of corned beef hash (not the usual canned stuff fried on the skillet, too real so hubs got it). Now, the chocolate chip pancakes deserve their own paragraph!! Sure, it was a $.89 upgrade for the chocolate chips, but amazing. Amazing doesn't even cover it! I posted a picture for your enjoyment. It was loaded with chocolate chips in the pancakes themselves but also shaved milk and white chocolate on top! Too great! Worth the $1 for sure! Only con was that service was a bit slow, but it's a Sunday afternoon, understandable.

Breakfast is my favorite meals of the day, and Butterfields hits the nail on the head when it comes to breakfast joints. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The interior was fresh and modern. I had the Denver omelet, which was huge! I would highly recommend ordering a glass of orange juice because they have a machine that makes it fresh right in front of you! The pancakes were good because they were fluffy but had a slightly crisp exterior, which I really like. If you have a moment to spare and are in the Wheaton area, I would highly recommend giving them a visit.

We went here this morning for breakfast. I strayed from my normal order and I got the Mexican Egg Burrito. Delicious, it made my day! I definitely suggest Butterfields.

I went for lunch with a friend and my two kids. I love that breakfast is available anytime! My kids love pancakes, and the kids menu has the usual options as well as some healthy substitutions (fruit instead of fries). My California roll up was pretty good, and I love that they put the dressing on the side! It's a little over priced for a casual place. Hosts/Servers were mostly friendly. One was a dud.

Service was great and prices are comparable to other breakfast places. The unique dishes is what I think sets Butterfields apart. I had a Mexican skillet made with traditional shredded hash browns. My girlfriend had an omelette with dates, bacon and goat cheese. That's the first time we have every seen anything like that at a restaurant. The flavor was awesome, I would highly recommend it. Definitely give this place a shot!

Decent breakfast place with an abundance of options. Be prepared to wait for a while. Coffee is good and they have a new outdoor patio are which is nice.

I came here for brunch a couple weeks ago with a friend. I ordered a yogurt and granola and a side of bacon. Our food came out fairly quickly except that I only got my bacon. My friend had ordered a hot dish so I thought it rather weird that my yogurt hadn't come out yet. After flagging down the waiter we found out that she hadn't heard me order the yogurt. She quickly apologized and brought out the rest of my order. Food was good but nothing special-- though to be fair I don't think this place claims to be super high end/trendy either. The place was clearly busy on a Sunday morning and I can see why the prices may have been a little higher than the quality of the food would have merited. Still, well executed. What made me really consider coming back was on our check, the waiter had gone out of her way to comp my yogurt that she hadn't brought out. Pretty good customer service I would say and this place has clearly built itself a nice niche here in the community.

Lots of breakfast variety. Pancakes, eggs, skillets, benedicts. Everything we have tried has been good. The coffee tends to be strong. I normally drink it black but need to use cream here. There are balloons for the kids! My 4 year old loves that. My only complaint is the sun room area. The chairs make a very loud noise when you slide them. Avoid that area if you don't like loud noises. PS: This place gets REALLY busy for breakfast.

  • Amanda S.

Why is it you have to ask for hash browns well done? Does anyone actually like raw potatoes? Ick. Anyhow, I ordered mine well-done and what a great decision that was, they were cooked perfectly crispy. Those were of course a side to the main dish, a date, bacon and goat cheese omelette. Holy cow. Honestly, where would you find a dish like that? An urban, hipster restaurant probably. I would never expect that at a suburban pancake house. The service was great, and obviously the food was incredible. I will definitely be back to explore the menu!

  • Erik S.

Whatever you do, DON'T come here. It is so good and so many people already know about it. But seriously, you should go there because the food is wonderful! It is always busy on the weekends. It has a great comfortable vibe. The acoustics are great (I hate noisy places you cannot have a conversation). It is one of our favorite breakfast spots in IL or in AZ. Get the pancakes instead of toast. C'mon!

I went here years ago when it first opened and hadn't really found it remarkable, but as the years have passed they have really improved. they have a good selection that caters to almost every kind of eater at any age. Plus they have another location in Naperville. Portions are sizable and pricing is friendly to the pocketbook.

We have been here twice now, and I really like this place. To be honest, I think it's partly in the name... Butterfield's, fields of butter, fields of butter on my pancakes... Both times, we've had a pleasant experience. A busy dining room, friendly service, and a reasonably short wait for a table. Delicious, plentiful coffee. The kids menu was cute. At a lot of places, we skip the kids meal because it's not a good value, but here you can have a Mickey Mouse pancake (see photo) with sausage or bacon for under $4. Not bad. I don't remember what we had on our first visit, but today I had a California scrambler with a side of pancakes, and my husband had a skillet. My scrambler was fresh and tasty: avocado, bacon, grilled chicken, tomatoes, and cheese. Out of my typical breakfast comfort zone and surprisingly satisfying. The pancakes were also A+. We were too busy eating and tending to our little ones to discuss our food much this morning, but considering how much of my husband's breakfast was (not) left, I'd say he enjoyed it. With so many breakfast places close to us, we don't really frequent a particular one again and again (except maybe the one we walk to in town), but I hope it won't be too long before we find ourselves back at Butterfield's.

Food is good but service is too slow. The couple of times I've been there, we almost waited 45 minutes for our food.

  • Jasmine S.

It's a fairly nice breakfast place. Even though it was very busy, we were seated quickly and they had excellent service. Our party ended up staying and talking for quite some time and they never tried to rush us out the door. Good variety in the menu. Only thing I would watch out for is that everything was very sugary and I'm not sure that they had gluten-free options.

  • Amelia I.

wow wow wow! Delicious breakfast and FAST to boot! I think we waited for maybe ten minutes for our food? The waiter was friendly not but clingy, and my bfs moms coffee cup was always full. I had stuffed french toast which I loved, and the bf had a huge skillet what was good too. I'd def go back here next time we visit his mom, its in a big plaza and the parking is ample.

One of the better value breakfast spots in the area. Not nearly as good in quality as Egg Harbor in downtown Naperville but the food here is pretty good and they make up for the the difference in quantity. Love the new enclosed patio which can become "al fresco' in the summer. Gets crowded on Sundays. Favorite after church brunch spot.

I found this place about 7 years ago and have been coming ever since. You get a great selection of breakfast and lunch dishes at a decent price and they keep your cup of coffee filled at all times. Generally, the wait staff is quite friendly and good, although the other Butterfields in Naperville seems to have some issues with their staff. All in all, this place is one of the better places in the Wheaton/Naperville area.

Within walking distance of my house lies Butterfield's Pancake House & Restaurant on Wheaton just off of Butterfied Road in the Rice Lake Square shopping center. For one reason or another I've never felt compelled to visit. Today was the day where I finally decided to take the journey and try out the food. The first thing to notice about Butterfields is that it's clean on the inside, the tables and booths are nice and there's a comfortable ambiance. After being seated I was handed a copy of the menu and looked over my options. I was a bit deflated to discover that none of the skillets they offered seemed to be up my alley, they either had very few ingredients or had things I didn't want in them. Rather than risk a custom order I decided to go for the Classic Eggs Benedict. The Eggs Benedict had some overly soft egg whites on it, neither the egg nor the Canadian bacon took up two thirds of the muffin they were served on, so not a lot of meat, not a lot of egg. The hollandaise sauce was fairly bland and a bit too watery to properly compliment the eggs and muffin. I also received hash browns which were fairly crisp but unspectacular. One final note about the meal is that they had Nehi brand soda's. Perhaps it's just me but I consider Nehi to be a bit of an off-brand, I tried the 7-up but it tasted a bit off. In any event, I was not impressed by Butterfields and don't foresee another visit in the immediate future.

Alright, I'll give this place three stars. We went back for lunch a few days ago and the service actually bordered on decent. Is this an active push from the restaurant management to make dining here a better experience or just a one-off day where they were overstaffed? Time to consult the tea leaves, I suppose.

We were driving thru town and stopped for breakfast... My boyfriend had eggs Benedict and I had a frittata. Good portion sizes but it was a bit loud in there. Pancakes were not quite as good as I expected. Would eat there again though.

Went there for the first time and i was not impress.. my husband asked for fruit and his place came with potatoes, and the taste was just blaahh... nothing amazing.. haaa, and the service was not that great wait for ever and was not friendly... i was so hoping this was a good place because is so nice looking but i was not impress at all

Nice brunch place. We split an avocado bacon omelette, and it was good, and still plenty for the two of us. Pancakes and coffee were good too as was the service. They handle crowds quickly and efficiently here (we had a 20 minute wait for brunch). Only thing here is they could use a bigger entrance area as it's a bit tight and crowded with the folks in line. The parking in the Rice Lake mall is a bit crowded as well. So there is a minor hassle factor here compared to other brunch places but it's still a good quality stop, and we would not hesitate to come back.

I'm a wheaton north sider, but I've ventured to Butterfield's a few times, and honestly, it's nothing special. I'm not a big juice guy, and apparently that is a money maker for this place. Oh well. The Menu is fairly diverse. I ordered an egg beater omelette with some veggies, and well as a side of the multigrain cakes. Food was probably 4 star, to be honest. The thing that has hurt butterfields in my most recent visits is the poor service. I try to be as nice as I can to servers, they have a very tough job. But not checking on a table for 5 minutes at a time... come on! The restaurant is actually very nice inside as well. I could see myself visiting again, but I think there are much better options closer to my neck of the woods. Red Apple in Carol Stream and Egglectic in Downtown Wheaton are my picks!

The food is ok however the staff including the manager spend more time talking to each other than taking care of customers.

Nothing special here. Warning: the New Orleans Style French Toast is a VERY small portion. Order a side dish with it. The Chicken Hash is fairly healthy but needs some serious seasoning. Service was OK but when we got the large bill it cinched the two star rating.

Butterfield's used to be our favorite breakfast spot, but there have been changes lately. We like the renovations that expanded seating. However, the food quality is spotty now and prices shot way up with their new menu (for example, a basic two egg and sausage or bacon breakfast is now. $9.09). Most of the original items are there, but the prices went up quite a bit. They seem to have had quite a bit of turnover in servers lately, too. The servers used to have great teamwork, pouring coffee for each other's tables and picking up plates for each other. Most of the newer servers only offer additional coffee to they own tables. The coffee is still nice and strong.

Very average. The food was descent but nothing special. The service wasn't bad, but t he silverware wasn't at all cleaned well.

  • Christina A.

They recently added a very nice room into this restaurant so the wait time is shorter than it used to be. Butterfield's is a breakfast classic- it's nothing new or inventive, but for a good breakfast and a large menu, it's a great place. Especially good for families and very accommodating of children.

  • Bruce M.

This a great place we like to hit early on the weekends. If you go to late you will be waiting. The selection is good. I've had the steak and eggs and the chocolate chip pancakes. All were good and the coffee is respectable. Overall a great family place.

You know what a new mom needs to help perk her up after a long night with the baby? Butterfield's Coffee. I don't know what brand of coffee it is but it is a delicious caffeineted delight! 2 cups and I felt like a whole new person! The food ain't bad here either. Eggs Benedict and hasbrowns. Delicious. Just what the doctor ordered. And Patio seating? Weather permitting, it's a great place to enjoy breakfast. Huge menu, no frills, friendly service.

Never ever ever reprimand your staff in front of customers by the front door. You should be dismissed!!!! The lack of professionalism was clear. Food was good, expenssive but good. Wait staff was excellant. You Mr. Manager should not be allowed to a representative of that restaurant, how embarrassing.

    (3)
  • Aimee J.

Years ago I used to come here for brunch and loved this place despite the higher prices and ridiculously long wait times. Lately I decided to order an omelet for carry-out and was very disappointed. I was told the order would be ready in 10-15 minutes, however it took 27. The staff was quite unfriendly and unapologetic about the matter. The omelet was brown and dry and the hash browns had no flavor. The side of pancakes wasn't even good (and in my opinion it's hard to mess up pancakes.) So disappointed. What happened to the Butterfield's I remember?? The food quality and the service have both dropped significantly.

  • Tres B.

Outstanding breakfast spot in suburban Chicago. Brisk and friendly service, some of the best buttermilk pancakes I've ever had. The eggs were cooked just as I asked, the interior was chain-like but fresh and inviting. This is the quintessential American breakfast eatery.

    (4)
  • Justin L.

A great breakfast spot with a wide variety for the Wheaton area. I've come here a few times, and I think I keep making my way back to the Santa Fe Scrambler with buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes simply melt in your mouth, so I would recommend that be the first thing you eat (and to dip your syrup so it doesn't soak through too quickly). The venue and service are both very reliable. Nothing too noteworthy about either. The one problem here... it gets VERY busy on the weekends. Try coming here after Church and you'll be waiting outside for half an hour. Overall, one of the only breakfast spots I ever visit!

    (3)
  • Jillian A.

I can't even tell you how much I look forward to a good breakfast. When I think of wanting a good breakfast my first instinct is always Butterfield's. I enjoy the Wheaton location a little better than Naperville. The staff is incredibly friendly and the service is quick. Coffee is always hot and water is always full. I never find myself ever having to ask for anything! Their bacon is just glorious. It's more of a jerky texture, but it's a thicker cut of bacon. I've also have never had an egg that was cooked incorrectly or poorly. All in all, it's my breakfast mecca.

First, my daughter and I will probably keep showing up just for the cheese grits. And their orange juice is GREAT! They are sooo amazing! But I am giving them three stars for a few reasons. The arrangement of the tables on the floor makes it really hard to get around. When I come, usually I am showing up with a baby so the chances of me having to get up are big. I have no idea how the servers get around because I sure couldn't. There is a man who works there who whistles constantly.. I think this is maybe a petty thing to point out but I went there once on my own to read a book and his whistling and humming made it really difficult! I have paid for a meal, eaten the entire thing, and still been hungry when leaving. I'm a short small woman.. if I'm still hungry, then other people must be too. The food DOES taste great but when I'm out to breakfast, I expect to be able to be full for within $8. Do not expect to get in and out of this place within 45 minutes. If you go on Sunday, do so BEFORE church or you won't eat for an hour! (more if you have a large party)

    (3)
  • Chris S.

I always get excited about pancakes when the word "pancake" appears in the name of the restaurant and I am seldom disappointed. Unfortunately today my excitement was wasted. The selection was good. The service was good. The food arrived very quickly after ordering and was very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed my omelet and there was plenty of it. The only disappointing thing about the meal was the pancakes. They were dry and tasted like the batter hadn't been mixed thoroughly. It was a bummer. The orange juice is good, but I don't think it is worth the $3.50 for a 12 oz glass. That is all.

  • Tony H.

I hate to rain on the party that is the positive reviews of Butterfield's, but the service broke down on two of three key components of the meal today. Lunch with the P's: We start with the food. Good all around. All of our dishes were a bit odd in that my scramble only came with *a* piece of french toast, mom's crabcakes benedict came on english muffins and with hashbrowns (lotta carbs) and dad's southwest scramble came with red beans and rice, more often reserved for Louisiana-style cooking. Whatever, the food was good. 4 Stars. Service, however, left much to be desired. Started off alright; order was taken, food was delivered promptly. Drinks took a bit long to be refilled, and they all needed refilling. About halfway through our meal, dad asked for a side of toast, which was also delivered promptly by our server, but then we never saw him again. Ever. Drinks again went empty. Empty plates remained on our table for like 20 minutes. Where before there were busboys picking them up all around us, now there was nobody. Finally, we all just went to the front counter to ask for the check, since we still couldn't find our server. When the gentleman at the front asked how everything was, mom commented on how the food was good, but the service wasn't "all that", as she so hiply likes to say. The man up front didn't offer an apology, didn't try to find out who our server was, and didn't try to correct the problem. I've read other reviews on how their server had also disappeared, so it seems like it's not an isolated incident. Mom left the tip and it pained me to watch her drop 12%, as she is a career server and we all know that people have their days. It was my idea to head out here for breakfast since I enjoyed the first time i came here, but it'll be a toss-up whether we return.

Like its sister restaurant in Naperville, this one leaves me wondering what people think is so good. It was in its heyday when Egg Harbor closed in Town Square. Some days it is not crowded, some days you wait, my food has been just okay and usually not hot. Better places to spend your breakfast money.

We go to Butterfields almost every weekend for breakfast. By "we" I mean me, my picky brother, and my picky sister in law. The picky ones usually have a special order, and Butterfields always gets it right. That makes it pretty good in my opinion. The food isn't great, but it's not bad. I usually have eggs and they are always cooked perfectly. My brother usually has pancakes and really likes them. The staff is just ok, nothing special. It's amazing to me how cold the restaurant is in the winter, it would be nice if you didn't have to wear your coat while eating. I'd add another star for that.

    (3)

Typical breakfast place, were seated very quickly on Sunday morning! A star off because our waiter was just terrible. He totally forgot about us after we were done with our food! Luckily another waitress took care of us with coffee and our plates. I got three eggs, canadian bacon, and some pancakes!

I'm a little surprised by some of the bad reviews. We love going to this place for breakfast! I think their pancakes are amazing and I usually get the New Mexico Skillet, but with regular sausage. (Not a chorizo fan) Their freshley squeezed orange juice is very good as well. If you haven't had breakfast here you should definitely give this place a try. As for the service, I can't say that I can recall a time when I was unhappy with it. I think this place is great and the food is delicious!!!

I am simply addicted to their Dutch Baby. It does take 30 min to prepare, but if I know I'm going to order that, I call a couple minutes before I get there, give them my name, and they'll start it for me. :-) I've also had both their regular and strawberry cheesecake french toast (super sweet, but tasty). Both were good. I've never had any service problems, and the prices are standard for the area. I plan to return.

Was in the area and wanted to try something different, so stopped in. Service was friendly. Prices seemed a little on the high side, 1045 for a cheeseburger. Ok it was a fried bacon cheese burger, but still. You seem to get good quantity and the quality was ok. Ive never had a runny fried egg so that threw me off cause i wasnt ready for it to be so sloppy. Didnt ruin it. Now the milk shake was really really good, they say thick but it wasnt, but tasty tasty. I wouldnt make a special trip just to eat here, but i wouldnt not come back.

I don't even know where to begin with reviewing Butterfield's, just thinking about it makes me sad that I'm not on my way there right now. My husband and I used to live in the apartments just a block away from this location, but it took us quite a long time to make it out there as we both work during the week, and sleep in until after noon on the weekends, so we rarely see the inside of restaurants that close before nightfall. But luckily we somehow pushed ourselves to checking out this breakfast joint, and I'm so happy that we did. The staff (with the exception of one server that we had a very bad experience with a few years ago) is wonderful. We each have our favorite person, and we are always completely and fully satisfied with whoever is running our section any time we go in. The owner is friendly and kind, and the girls at the front desk are always sweet and helpful and quick to ring is up and send us on our way when we're in a hurry. The coffee. Oh the COFFEE. We started buying it in whole bean just to bring it home and replicate it but nothing tastes as good as drinking it fresh in the restaurant. It's hot, and nutty, and smooth and just downright wonderful. We always end up with at least two cups down by the time we leave, and my husband always drains one before we even order our food. Cups are always full, and the servers never fill our coffee cups without asking first, so I never go to the restroom and come back to a mixture that isn't how I want it with cream and suger. The fresh squeezed juice is INCREDIBLE. I am a huge grapefruit fan, and it's impossible to find places with good grapefruit juice. This is so far the only place I have been to that offer fresh squeezed juice of a variety other than just orange. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It's worth every single penny and then some. They could charge $20 a glass of this juice and I would still pay it. Last but definitely not least; the food. I don't believe that my husband or I have ever ordered anything here that hasn't been cooked exactly how we asked for it, served piping hot, and with no complaints. I have a difficult time ordering bacon anywhere, because I love it crispy to the point of blackness. Normally I have to send my bacon back two or three times before servers understand the instruction of "burn it until it's black". I told our server this ONCE, over three years ago, and ever since then my bacon has been perfect every single time. The eggs are scrambled firm but not tasteless, the chorizo is real chorizo (instead of the strange fake polish-style sausage with peppers in it that somehow gets served all over this area), the hashbrowns are perfect every single time, not too crispy, not too mushy. We have since moved about half and hour away from Butterfield's and even now if we are looking to not mess around for breakfast, we will gladly wake up early and hike our way out to Butterfield's so we can completely enjoy everything we order. Well worth the money, well worth any commute to get there. No other breakfast place we go to have ever even come close to measuring up to what we experience here. I can't recommend it enough, I wish they would uproot and build a new location right next to our house.

My wife and I had breakfast/lunch here today. It was OK. I had two eggs: scrambled, pancakes, bacon and hashbrowns. My wife had a bacon and cheese omelette, with a side of pancakes and hashbrowns. We also each had a latte and a mocha, both were alright. We did have about a 15 minute wait; but that is to be expected on a Sunday. What was odd is that they didn't have the breakfast combos that you would come to expect from a breakfast joint. Some examples of this are: The omelettes don't have the option of sausage to be added. The French toast, crepe and waffle dishes don't come with sides like meat or toast. You can add these sides for an extra charge; sausage or bacon are $3.25ish an item. Not a big deal, but I like a bit of everything with breakfast. The egg and omelette dishes do come with some regular side items. Overall it's an OK breakfast spot with a friendly staff. Of the breakfast spots in the area of Danada this one is probably the more pricey of them. It has a nice atmosphere. We will probably give it another try someday; I'd say at LEAST give it a try!

We've been going here for years, and it's an AWESOME breakfast place! They keep adding new things to keep the menu fresh. We just got back and had a GREAT server, Heather. She was able to get me my PERFECT breakfast (I usually like a ton of different things, and she was able to accomodate everything!)....had the perfect balance of checking in on us and leaving us alone, and ACTUALLY REMEMBERED MY ORANGE JUICE! When I go to breakfast, I always tell servers that I'd like a glass of orange juice, but not until my meal because I'll gulp it down before the food even hits the table. 99% of the time I have to remind servers to get it because they've got 10 other tables to remember (which is totally understandable!). Heather came to our table, dropped off our food, and said "Anything else other than the orange juice?" SHE REMEMBERED! Great service....great food :)

It's not often that I go out for breakfast so when I read the reviews praising this place I was excited. However, it was very underwhelming. My husband ordered a breakfast burrito, and complained that it had no real distinguishable flavors. I tried a piece and couldn't agree more. I had an omelet which was not even half as good as I could have made myself at home. I could have had a weeks worth omelets for the price of this mediocre dish. The biggest disappoint was the M & M pancakes my daughter had. They were very dry, as if they'd come straight out of the microwave, and had a sparse amount of M & M's hastily dumped on top. Service is always secondary to the quality of the actual food for me and their's was neither poor nor outstanding. I've eaten at Egg'clectic and Eggsperience. While each has some drawbacks, they blow Butterfield's out of the water!

I should note that I am dieting so I could not order what I would normally order. Sigh... We lunched during the noon hour and got seated right away. I thought our service was good too. My friend had her little one with her and the waitress was very sweet with him (but he's adorable so this was not a surprise) and one of the bus boys gave him a balloon...you know how kids love those balloons. They do have a "healthy options" section on the menu which consists of a couple of hashes (one veggie, one chicken) with poached eggs, oatmeal, fruit plates, etc. I wound up ordering a california chicken wrap...whole wheat tortilla, grilled chicken breast, avocado, lettuce tomato, easy cheese with a side of fruit. I 86'd the cole slaw & ranch dressing and asked for a side of balsamic vinaigrette. The portion was a good size and they gave me extra pickles - which I appreciated. I enjoyed my wrap but not nearly as much as I would have enjoyed my friend's lunch... She ordered a grilled cheese w/bacon which came with fries & coleslaw and also a cup of clam chowder. The portion was huge and it looked tasty...but it's hard to go wrong with anything that involves cheese & bacon. I'd love to come back for breakfast sometime...overall a good experience.

I won't go back after my bad experience.... What kind of restaurant takes the old water from a half -drank pitcher off other people's tables, then refills other half drank pitchers with that water? Yes, I typed that correctly. I saw it with my own eyes. When I complained, all I was told is that, "well, what restaurant doesn't do that??" Ewww.....

$30 for eggs, toast, bacon and a skillet is a big extreme for my husband and I! It was okay food, but definitely not worth the price. Not even the $3.50 orange juice was something I would write home about. Trying somewhere else next time.

We went around 9am on a Sunday, and ended up with a 15 minute or so wait, which we totally expected. The folks at the front were very nice, and have complimentary coffee and cookies to hold you over if you simply cannot wait to eat until you are seated. I thought it was a nice touch. Once we were seated, it was hard to make up our minds about what to eat. This menu is extensive. The coffee was good and our waiter kept it flowing, and the OJ is fantastic. I had the New Orleans french toast and enjoyed it, and my honey had eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. He's normally not a pancake lover but he really liked them here. The service was good, not totally absent and not in your face. They have Nicktoons going on the TVs which I kind of enjoyed, and the crowd is mixed with couples, families, elderly, and when we were there a group of about 10 teenage girls celebrating a birthday. It was slightly more expensive than I normally like paying for breakfast, but it was tasty, and we will definitely be coming back.

We came on a Saturday morning, and it was fun to see the families and old men who are obviously regulars. It was busy, but the waitresses were nice and refilled coffee several times. The boy had the California scramble, and I had the ham and cheese omelette. The food was good and there was plenty of it. It's definitely a step up from the IHOP which we were thinking about going to.

Butterfields is one of those restaurants that is great to eat at if you are in the area and it isn't too crowded but don't be one of the crazies on a sunday morning knocking down the walls to eat here. First off the service here is actually very good. The waitresses and waiters are very professional and do a great job. The food is good but nothing you can't get at any of the 500 other breakfast places in the area. The wait on a sunday morning however is very long so I don't recommend coming then although if you do they are nice and have complementary cookies and coffee while you wait. All in all a good restaurant.

I wished I still lived close to here!!! The best breakfast in the Suburbs! The freshly squeezed OJ the yummy comfort breakfast foods that you can always depend on! Fast friendly service...nothing better when you are half awake on a late Sunday morning. Love it take a friend a nd get a stack of cakes with some OJ that tastes like it was picked right from the tree :) YUM...

We've eaten at Butterfields several times. It's a nice breakfast place with a local neighborhood feel. They are always busy weather you go for breakfast or lunch. I'm not a huge breakfast fan so I like I'm able to get lunch and my husband can order breakfast. The restaurant it always clean and the staff is always friendly. The food is good but is slightly overpriced for what you get.

This is a cozy restaurant with a large menu, much of which is breakfast. I have been here twice, once on a Sunday morning, and once mid-week for lunch. Both times they have been crowded. They give you tons of food here. I have had their omelets, which are excellent, and hard to finish! The omelet takes up half the plate, along with hash browns, and a side of either toast, pancakes, a biscuit, or cornbread. They are supposed to have awesome freshly squeezed orange juice, but at $4 a glass I'll pass. Overall, a good place.

We stopped here for breakfast after renewing a driver license in Wheaton. Service was slow at Jesse White's facility (expected) and a bit slow at the restaurant. The waitress could have come by to offer coffee refills. Once the order was brought to the table, we saw none of her or the coffee pot. The food was pretty good; the link sausages very big and tasty; real maple syrup for the French toast. The price was like the link sausages - big for what we ate. $32 for French toast & links, 3 eggs, hash browns and links, plus juice is a bit high plus a $5.00 tip (should have tipped $4.00 but the waitress was friendly, just slow).

Huge, HUGE menu, the place was packed on a Wednesday morning so I can only imagine what its like on a weekend. Great eggs Benedict but, I swear, the orange juice made it worth the 15 minute wait. I think they juice the entire orange so its super thick and it cuts the acidity. Holy wah, delicious.

Yummy! For the longest time I've been wanting to go to Butterfield's. . . I've now been there a few times. My experiences have been mixed, but overall positive. If I had to choose a time to eat at Butterfield's it's in the early to mid-afternoon right before they close. It's not as packed and I don't feel as rushed. The food, overall, has been good. For some reason I really like their hash browns however I wouldn't say they are anything super special. The OJ is fresh squeezed which is nice. I will warn those that don't like pulp (such as myself) there is pulp in the OJ, but it doesn't seem to taste as yucky as it does when you drink concentrate. I like that they have free wi-fi at Butterfield's however I was a bit apprehensive to use it since I didn't want to spill anything on my laptop. Service at Butterfields for the most part as been good. The second time I went I got the same server, but not the same service. I guess you can't win 'em all! I highly recommend if you have a craving for good breakfast food stop by Butterfield's.

Breakfast & Lunch ONLY Friendly service - they really seem to care you've come thru the door. Libations Supreme - the best glass of OJ in the Western 'burbs. Superb Victuals - No matter what you order it's going to be GREAT! Not a bad dish on the menu; Gotta' keep coming back for more! Famous for their freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juices, they squeezed their millionth Sunkist orange in June 2004!

Butterfield's Pancake House is my all time favorite breakfast stop when I'm visiting my parents in Naperville. There's actually a location on Naper Blvd closer to their place but I like this location better because it's larger, seats many more, and therefore has shorter wait times. The fresh squeezed oj is great. From their array of pancake selection, I like the banana pancakes the most. The batter has bananas mixed in already and more bananas slices are added on top of the pancakes. I've also had their eggs benedict and strawberry belgian waffle. Also, very good. My boyfriend has had a couple of their skillets and scramblers. We haven't found anything on the menu we didn't like! The best part is the pricing is not bad either! My whole family loves Butterfield's Pancake House. My mom comes here just about every sunday with her friends after a morning walk and brings home pancakes for my sister. It's really rare for me not to eat at Butterfield's when I'm in Naperville. When I pay a visit to my parents, I also pay a visit to Butterfield's.

A friend and I stopped here this past Sunday for brunch and I've since become a new fan. There's nothing better than being able sit outdoors in the sunshine and getting served a beautiful Farmer's Skillet of savory goodness - it's a fried egg topped over hasbrowns with a fluffy omelette containing button mushrooms, bacon, sausage, ham, tomatos, green peppers, broccoli. And it comes with a buttered English muffin toasted to perfection. One word for all this? YUM! This is the kind of place where people of all ages can enjoy, whether you're dining with friends, family, or alone, you'll be greeted warmly by the host and be seated quickly and the service here is super and fast. Definitely check this place out if you're an area suburbanite or visiting.

We have been to Butterfields several times. The food is good, but each time it seems to be a bit bland. Don't get me wrong the food is very good, however it is missing that last little something that would make it great. The first time I was there I had the Mexican skillet. Good, but bland. The second time today I had the hash omelet. Good, but bland. My fiancee has had the french toast each time and she loves it. I plan to try them again to see if it just what I am ordering.

Was it me or were the pancakes a little dry from here? The only thing I really enjoyed about this pancake house was the service was excellent, we got our food in record time even though there were a lot of people on a saturday morning. Our glasses were always refilled with water and freshly squeezed orange juice (a little tart but ok). The food was just ok. Nothing special in my book. Please note: if your gonna eat the pancakes make sure you have your drink of choice ready...

Hands down our favorite spot for breakfast! The staff is so friendly and accomodating. The food is just delicious-pancakes cooked to perfection. If you have the time, try the German Pancake-such a treat. The fresh squeezed OJ is wonderful. You will not find a better spot for breakfast.

I really really really wish you could give half stars on Yelp. I know it would mess up averaging and all of that, but still. I don't want to only give Butterfield's 3 stars, but I can't justify 4. In my search for a mind blowing breakfast, this does not make the list. It is a great breakfast place. Seemed to be great for families (there were kids shows playing on the tvs on Sunday morning). Its busy, of course, but the wait wasn't ridiculous. I got a flank steak benny, and I have to say, the steak was actually cooked medium rare as I asked, and had lots of flavor! It was very good food with friendly service. My boyfriend got his usual skillet and wasn't impressed. Everything was fine, but it wasn't great. My final word on this was that it was good food and service, environment was that of any busy family breakfast establishment. It was fine, but it was identical to many of the local pancake houses around. Don't avoid this place, definitely give it a try, but if you are looking for something unique, this is not your place.

Best breakfast I've had in the last few months. Always a good sign when the waitress cheerfully says she'll bring you fresh orange juice and its really fresh. Also a great sign when the coffee hits the spot and they bring in fresh milk instead of the usual generic creamer. Food was fantastic - I had the 2 eggs scrambled with thick bacon and sourdough toast and it was right and good. My wife got the Santa Fe Scrambler and swears that its why breakfast is considered the best meal of the day :)

Great selection on the breakfast menu. We have been here twice on Sat. mornings and never waited more than 5 min. Don't get me wrong, it's always packed- but the tables turn around quickly and there are lots of them. The orange juice is fresh squeezed and worth the extra $$, great way to start the weekend! Updated: We still eat breakfast at Butterfields at least once a week, still love it. Best coffee at any place around!!

I ran in a 5k not too far from this place and some locals invited me out to eat here. Though I couldn't stop referring to it as, "Buttfields", I have to say I was totally impressed with this place. Their menu has some stuff that other restaurants don't even think of...the French Toast especially: New Orleans style with bananas, banana nut or lemon poppyseed bread French toast, or even taffy apple French toast. That's stuff I HAVE to try, man. I would quite like to get my hands on the Mediterranean scramble too. Plus, one of my friends had a feta and artichoke heart omelette, which is incredible. You don't even see my beloved artichoke on other restaurant menus, much less for breakfast. My love affair with Buttfield's is set in stone by the fact that they served me, not kidding, six cups of coffee while I hung out there. They really are good with refills; total pros. I wish there was one closer to my realm of the universe, I'll find my way back or die trying.

coffee is dynamite, servers are friendly, all the breakfast choices are delicious. I order the popey scramble a lot (I think it's called) and it looks like something out of a gourmet magazine. Eggs are never over cooked, yummy pancakes, hubby and I are very pleased :) :)

This local favorite is one of the best pancake houses around - right up there with Walker Bros. I've been hooked on their fluffy pancakes and gianormous skillets filled with succulent morsels of breakfast meats, tender chunks of potatoes, and a super thick layer of gooey cheese. All their OJ is freshly squeezed and absolutely delicious. The staff is very friendly and service is fast. Even though the place is fairly big, it's always packed. I'm not sure if they do reservations but the food is absolutely worth the wait. The only set back with this place is you'll probably walk out a good 3-4lbs heavier than you walked in. P.S. They have a cool collection of little egg accessories behind the front counter... I think Megaman as well.

The best bacon you'll ever have in an American restaurant. All of their food is outstanding. I especially love the oatmeal...it's fabulous, just like in Europe. I'd never order it anywhere else but here. I'd give the restaurant five stars but the prices are high for breakfast and it can be very hectic. They have a 10% off coupon during the week, and that's really the time to go if you can get there then. The smoking area should also be cleaned up now, because Wheaton just instituted it's non-smoking ban...hooray!!!

This is our favorite breakfast place in the burbs. The food is always excellent and it's hard to picks a favorite, but you need to have some raisin toast with whatever you choose. The wait staff is very friendly and they make you feel welcome. Be aware that you will have to wait during their peak hours. I have family from overseas and Butterfields is always the highlight of their trip.

Used to eat here almost every day, but the service had gone to pot so I stopped. I will not deal with servers with attitudes. if you don't want to be here, then find another job. The food is only okay at best and the prices are a tad expensive. Also, like to go early and they HARDLY EVER open on time, or anywhere close to, like they are supposed to. I hate bad service, no matter how good the food may be. I am there paying your salary, in essense.....please do not give me attitude-because I WILL give it back. or never return!

This place is a must if you are in the mood for some breakfast! It was worth the the 75 minute wait. Service was excellent and prices are reasonable. I had some food right before to hold me over so I wasn't all that hungry. To accommodate my appetite, the waitress let me order off the kids menu. I got the Mickey Mouse pancake meal which was a delight.

Awesome place for lunch, or breakfast. I have never seen a place w/ such a large selection of french toast which is awesome! All of their food is kick ass and their service is awesome. I cannot make a recomendation for breakfast as no matter what you order you can't go wrong, but for lunch my fav is the Chicken salad club sandwhich it is trully remarkable!

I actually can't write this review w/o reliving my experience and feeling kind of sick. My in-laws were in town, so my husband & I thought we'd take them to one of our favorite breakfast places- Egg Harbor in downtown Naperville. Unfortunately, it was closed, so we decided to try Butterfields b/c I had heard it was good. When we sat down, I turned over my coffee cup to have it filled, there was a napkin dirty w/ ketchup in the cup. They apologized and brought me a new cup right away, but it left me w/ this feeling that they didn't clean things as thoroughly as they should b/c its so busy. Anyway- tried to put it out of my head and just order. When my food came, I was abt halfway through when I found a hair in my food- not my own, much darker. Nobody seemed to want me to complain, so I didn't, but it was really, really gross and I stopped eating at that point. Besides that though, from what I did eat, I wasn't impressed. I ordered something that came with salsa and the salsa was what you'd get out jar from jewel. My impression was just that they were trying to do everything "too fast" to keep up with the crowd. I won't go back.

This is a great staple for Saturday morning breakfasts. They have a great variety of breakfast items and lunch. I always get either their scramblers or skillets and I love them both. But I can never go without their chocolate chip pancakes! Those things are legit cakes and they're amazing. Love coming here!

It's a fairly nice breakfast place. Even though it was very busy, we were seated quickly and they had excellent service. Our party ended up staying and talking for quite some time and they never tried to rush us out the door. Good variety in the menu. Only thing I would watch out for is that everything was very sugary and I'm not sure that they had gluten-free options.

wow wow wow!

They recently added a very nice room into this restaurant so the wait time is shorter than it used to be. Butterfield's is a breakfast classic- it's nothing new or inventive, but for a good breakfast and a large menu, it's a great place. Especially good for families and very accommodating of children.

Outstanding breakfast spot in suburban Chicago. Brisk and friendly service, some of the best buttermilk pancakes I've ever had. The eggs were cooked just as I asked, the interior was chain-like but fresh and inviting. This is the quintessential American breakfast eatery.

  • Sarah L.

  • Paul M.

3 words: bacon avocado omelette. *drools* Good service and great overall breakfast food. However, being a picky smoothie fanatic, don't try theirs. They suck, they really do.

The best breakfast joint in DuPage county. I've sampled eggs benedict far and wide in this fine country of ours and when Butterfield's get is right (i.e. crisp english muffin, carmelized canadian bacon) their's truly is the best!

I won't go back.

people always rave about this place, and i've never understood why? a 30 minute wait, 4 dollar orange juice, and decent pancakes...wow! my advice, go right down the street to ihop for better food at half the bill.
