Sunrise Cafe is a great place for a simple meal. Breakfast lunch or dinner. The cooks wear paper hats and there's always at least three servers. The food is hot and simple!! In ten years I've never had a bad experience, but sometimes it takes a little long ti get your food when there busy but that's how it goes the way I see it.

Totally gross place and nasty staff. They all should be re-tooled or replaced. How can this spoon still be in business?

We walk in, only one empty table and it had not been bussed. We asked the waitress if we could sit down and she rudely said yes and that she would be back to clean. She continued to ignore us and the dirty table- we were not acknowledged by any one else, so we left. This place is disgusting, dirty, and the staff is rude.

Needed a quick breakfast before court. Everything prepared to order. There was nothing greasy about this diner. It was clean and service was friendly. Very obvious this is a place where local people come to regularly. Reasonable prices. Lots of parking in the back.

Food was good and the service was friendly but it took a long time to get our food. It took 30 minutes to get our food while 2 tables that came in AFTER us got theirs before us and one of those tables had more people than we did. If you cook to order that's understandable but if everything is cooked IN order ( in which they are received ) there's no reason we shouldn't have gotten our food first when we ordered first AND we ordered from the menu as it came NO special requests or changes so it was a simple order... If you have time to kill and want something good then this is the place for you but if you don't have time to waste waiting for food go else where. I'm not a yelp hater if you look at my other reviews most are 5 stars, they lost one star for our wait and another for the owners comment implying ours took longer because of being picky or ordering things with added things or changes which we did not. I'll be back in 5 years for another SIU reunion but I'll go else where. Maybe to a restaurant with an owner who can take OWNERship of their employees mistakes instead of blaming the customers or the "business". Stay classy sunrise cafe

Things have only gotten BETTER since my last review. Was rolling through Springfield on the way to Chicago and stopped by to grab a quick lunch with my sister. Our server was so personable and attentive. Just a very sweet soul. I wish I had gotten her name. The experience and food was not much different than our first (very satisfying) visit. One thing, however, had improved. I ordered the chef salad again and there was plenty of sliced turkey on it. Thanks for another nice dining experience, Sunrise!

As far as diners go, this one was just what I was hoping for- cheap, fast, and simple. My breakfast, over medium eggs, toast, and potatoes hit the spot. My daughter didn't like her ham and cheese omelet. I think it was made with Velveeta.

I cannot believe how long it took to eat a simple breakfast here. It took over an hour for our food to arrive once we placed the order, and there were items missing. I had to remind the waitress three times before I got the rest of my food. I know they have a disclaimer on their menu that they make everything to order so it takes longer, but there has to be a limit! I've worked the line in more than a couple breakfast places, so I know it can be done faster, WAY faster. When we finally got the food it was so-so. The sausage gravy was bland and floury and the coffee was horrible. Springfield deserves a better diner.

Great and friendly place. The owners are very personable and they know everyone that comes into the place. Always service with a smile. We will miss this place, the only place worth visiting in Springfield.

My husband and I were in Springfield for two days and on the morning we were leaving we were on the hunt for a nice little diner to eat breakfast. We stumbled across this place after driving around for half an hour looking for some place to eat. When we walked in we noticed that all of the empty tables had not been bused. We walked the length of the restaurant and arrived at the counter, which had about 6-8 seats, when the woman behind the counter told us to sit anywhere and someone would be by to clear the table. This isn't a large place and with about half of their 20 or so table/booths taken and the other half dirty, we found a table that looked "less dirty" than the rest. The waitress came over and started clearing the mess, dropped the rag on the table and walked away (we still don't have coffee at this point). I grabbed the rag and wiped the table down and waited for our waitress to return. She came back took our order and brought us some coffee. When the food arrived it was hot and cooked well. We both had eggs, hash browns and toast, I had bacon and he had sausage links. Aside from the fact that the waitress seemed to be in an extremely bad mood and none of the dirty tables had been cleaned the entire time we were there, the food was very good. However, just as great service doesn't make up for bad food, great food doesn't make up for horrible service and abysmal dining conditions.

I believe you review based on what the place is....a diner, a no frills, no nonsense, get in there and eat your grease diner. That being said... I've never had a bad meal here. We've had great burgers, chicken, horseshoes, walleye, and numerous breakfasts. Food is always hot, freshly cooked, and we even have a favorite waitress (Anne) - what a pleasant person, knows her job, and keeps your table taken care of! Prices are cheap, large menu of items, and people are friendly. We continue to go in when we want breakfast, or some grease :-)

What?! No one has reviewed this place yet? Hands down - great breakfast and service. Now, this isn't an Egg Harbor Cafe or Walker Bros. (for you Chicagoans), but a home style greasy spoon where, if you prefer, you can catch the cooking action via counter stools, my preferred seating. Their fountain sodas are extra tasty thanks to the shaved ice. For anyone who loves eggs and potatoes, check this little place out. (And for those on the go, order ahead and use the drive-thru. Unbelievably cool.) Not good for groups of 7+ due to small space. Six or less people can probably squeeze in comfortably. Also - good people watching due to the 'diverse' crowd of local folks.

Good cheap food. We sometimes go for a GREASY breakfast after a night out. Just your typical diner, don't expect much as far as atmosphere.
