A place you can enjoy eating and relax at the same time. The only reason for 4 stars is they aren't open on Sundays and close early, otherwise a 5 star establishment.. A bit on the expensive side but good food and a calm atmosphere is worth the money

This restaurant/bakery is in a dilapidated old house. The stairs leading inside are rickety. Once you get inside, the house smells old. There are no real directions on what to do once you get inside - it's a workaraunt. You have to go left and go back to the cake case where you place your order. The cakes and pastries are beautiful but expensive. I tried the chicken salad sandwich. It was merely ok, the bread had more flavor, the chicken salad was quite bland. I did order one of their fruit tarts for a party. It was beautiful and tasty but nearly $50. I don't think it was $50 good. I don't think I would go back.

This place was great! I love places that are off the beaten path and this is something different. Sort of confusing to find the counter, but when I did I ordered the portabello and goat cheese baguette and the person I was with ordered the chicken salad sandwich. You can then go sit where you want and they will come and bring you your food. It was a short wait and meanwhile we looked around at all the interesting architectural details this old place has - very cool. But back to the main thing - that sandwich! Amazing! I loved it. So delicious. The person I was with was a bit confused about the chicken salad, as she said normally it has chunks of chicken, and this was a .... puree I guess? A pate? But anyways I thought it was a great experience. The only thing I was a bit off put about was the man who I am guessing owns the place - middle aged, French(?) but he was very quiet and it made him seem unfriendly. But the young man who waited on us originally was extremely friendly. The pastries also looked amazing so I am a bit sad I didn't get one. But next time I am in St. Louis I will def be there again!

This is a bakery. Go here for the deserts. My first visit was with a friend. We had lunch. It reminded me of something you would get at Panera/St. Louis Bread Co. While it was tasty, it was nothing incredible. The place gets its name from the chocolate tart I had for desert. Sure, it was four dollars for desert, but it was the best desert I have had in a long time. Besides, half of us pay four bucks for a latte, so what's the difference? They are always made daily too--a luxury you tend to only get at such locally owned businesses.

ID/Patrick did my wedding cake about 6 yrs ago. It was a buttercream cake with fresh blueberry and lemon filling - fantastic flavor, fresh, amazing icing... they live up to the name! More recently, we order cakes and pies from here around my family's birthdays and the holidays. They never disappoint!!

This cafe and bakery provides a decent but not special lunch spot in the capital city. Lunch specials are large and filling. The vegetable quiche and veg chili were well seasoned and satisfying. The chicken salad contained large slices of grilled chicken on a bed of spinach with a light vinagrette and cranberries. Yum. Split a slice of seasonal cranberry pecan pie. Crust was heavy and the filling was gummy and overly sweet. Décor needs an update as the place is musty. Looks like work is already in progress. Hard to believe they are known for the desserts. I say enjoy the lunch items and skip dessert.

This is a very quaint and charming place. It 's an old century home turned into a restaurant and they have sitting areas all over the place. We were literally famished when we finally found this place and i was so happy when we did. We had been walking for a while and seen nothing in sight that was OPEN. So I asked this women who was jogging if she knew of a place and she suggested we come here. She was a life saver...literally!! We ordered salads and they were so good. I ordered the Asian sesame with chicken and my son had the grilled chicken with cranberries and sunflowers seeds. They serve it with a side of mutli-grain sourdough bread and butter. My youngest had a PJ on sourdough and he loved it. We were very please with everything including the yummy desserts....so good!!

My boyfriend and I went here based on the strength of the Yelp! recommendations as well as a friend of mine who hails from Springfield and we were very happy we did. We were originally looking for something quick to take out but the list of the day's specials decided it for us that we would eat in. He got the turkey, bacon and avocado ranch sandwich with the red potato cheese soup and I go the spinach, red pepper and goat cheese quiche, also with the soup. We shared each other's meals and were impressed by the quality and taste. We also shared the peach tart which was yummy. When I go to a new place, especially one with bakery elements I like to tr several different things. I bought a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie macaroon, ostensibly for later, which neither of us could help ourselves from eating before we left the building after our meal. I loved both of them so I turned around to get more and was glad I did. I thoroughly recommend this place and would go again if fate found me again in this neck of the woods.
