Diabetics at Village Inn

We brought several friends to Villiaggio to see the Vito Zatto show and it was a great evening of good food, great music and lots of launghs! The food was good - our table had a variety of pasta, seafood and chicken dishes. The lasagna was a big hit as well as the linguini frutti de mare. The desserts were also delicious - spumoni, cannoli and a wild berry tart with ice cream (my favorite of the three). We really came to this restaurant for the show but were very pleased with the meal and the service. Villaggio's is not in our backyard and there are lots of great Italian places that are much closer for us but the food is good enough to make the trip, especially for a special event like this one or as a central meeting point for friends scattered in areas west or north.

Villaggio is my favorite Italian restaurant. I've been here twice and can't wait to go back. Their entrees come with a daily soup or salad and both are great. The first time, I had the Capellini Fra'Diavola and the second, the Linguine Campagnola. Both were incredible- really fresh and so delicious. During our second visit, we also had their tiramisu and creme brulee- so good! I can't remember much about their wine list, but we enjoyed the wine we had both times. Service is a little inconsistent, especially when they get busy, but their food is definitely worth a visit!

Villaggio recently had another Groupon this time for lunch and Dinner, being that I already ate dinner there I decided to go out for lunch with my friend. We were both shocked on how good it was. I can not for the live of me spell the things we ate but it was damn good! The staff were very warm and kind and they didn't get upset when we butchered the names of the dishes. After lunch we wanted to try some Italian desserts. I had this wonderful Italian ice cream with roasted almonds with honey drizzled on top with raspberry sauce decorating the plate. It was to die for! My friend opted for Tiramasu. All in all I was very impressed and will be coming back again.

service.. how many times will you ask me if everything is alright. Lasagna... ala dente it was not. It reminded me of the Lasagna in the redbox in your freezer section. Salad with the meal was oil and vinegar. Sorry, but nothing good to say. I would have been happier with a $5.00 Skippy Gyros down the street. How they have stayed in business all these years is a mystery. Guess I'm just a food snob and demand quality and this was not !!

Went because we had a groupon....it is now in our list of local favorites! AmZing flavors...loved everything! Special touch giving scoop of lemon ice before entree...impressed.

Upping my review. Went last night with good friends for dinner. Service couldn't have been better, food was excellent. Had a great time! Again, they will be my go-to Italian restaurant. Manga-Manga!!!!!:)

Went there last night with my family and we all loved it. Never went there before and we'll be back. I agree with Debbie on 2 things - they do ask if everything is okay a little too much and the salad was drenched in balsamic vinegar. The bread was fantastic and the sun dried tomato paste that comes with the bread was really good. I had the clay pot fruti de mare and it was the best I've had. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked - portions were big - we all loved it!

Expensive, servings and food not worth the pricey co$t. Service slow (be it drinks, bread or dinner). Entertainment while entertaining too loud for small venue.

I came for an event. They people rented out a space. About a solid 2.9 Food - bruschetta was really delicious! Very Fresh and the brad was crunchy buy not break your teeth hard. -salad..yeah it was a salad -pasta was good. The sauce was kind of runny and there was like 2 cups of sauce to 1/2 cup of past but it tasted ok -I don't eat meat so the chicken parm. smelled chemically-but the potatoes and broccoli were delicious. The atmosphere. -weird plastic burgundy chairs...come on ...I have had better atmosphere in a banquet hall. Would I come back a huge maybe....maybe if I ate at the restaurant maybe it would have been better but as a group meal with a pre fixe menu...not really that great. The service was nice enough a little slow, but friendly.

My husband and I pass this restaurant regularly so thought we'd check it out. It was a disappointment. On a Friday night, there were only ten tables, yet service was terrible. The servers were scatter brained and running around. We started out with one waiter and ended with another. It took someone 7 minutes to greet us and ask us if we wanted anything to drink besides water. After that, another 20 minutes before we had our order taken, and then half hour for our food to arrive. The food was mediocre. Bread at the beginning of the meal was good as was the palate cleanser. My husband ordered the fettuccini alfredo which was bland and dry. I ordered the gnocchi which was chewy with a bland tomato sauce. We will not be returning.

Maybe I am giving this 4 stars because when you drive by the strip mall this restaurant is located in, you just assume the worst. The restaurant is in the basement of a strip mall badly in need of remodeling. That said, the actual inside of the restaurant is quite welcoming and cozy. The bar area is really small, but in a good way because it makes the place feel warm and friendly. My wife and I went on a Friday night at about 7:30 and the place was quite busy, but we were sat fairly quickly. We both orders pasta dishes and thought they were excellent. I got the "Mama Mia" which is just bucacelli, sausage, meatball and brociole... wonderful to the last drop! Would definitely recomend for a casual, good italian meal.

One of my favorite restaurants! I've grown up eating Italian food, and when it comes to dining out Italian, I'm pretty hard to please. But this place is great! From the friendly staff to the wonderfully relaxed pace for the meal, to their interesting specials and general atmosphere which reminds me of holiday dinners from my childhood, I couldn't recommend this place more. If a bad time was had here,I can only assume it's by someone who thinks Olive Garden is authentic Italian (not that I don't like OG, but it's Italian-inspired, not true Italian cuisine). We go here whenever we can afford it, yes it's a little pricey but I always have enough leftovers for another meal! Enjoy!

I had dinner here this weekend and I LOVED it. First of all, the food was outstanding. Very authentic. But more than the food I loved the attentive service and friendliness of everyone working there. I felt like a guest in someone's home. It was just a wonderful experience overall.

I was doing the wandering thing again and noticed Villagio so I stopped in for lunch. Something about the decor made it very cool and inviting. The staff though felt somewhat distant. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli from their Lunch Specials Menu. They brought out bread first, two types: white and something with tomatoes and basil and other seasonings. Along with the bread there was a bowl of Parmesan cheese, containers of butter, a plate of black olives, and a tomato-ish spread... not sure what it was called but it was good. I also chose the salad with their house dressing. Also delicious. The Lobster Ravioli was awesome. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the filling was just the right amount, and the sauce was one of the best I've had. There was also crab legs and shrimp piled in the center of the plate. It made me happy. I'd definitely come here again, probably with some friends for a nice dinner. I definitely got more of a fine dining vibe than a casual lunch. Luckily I was dressed up.

Let me start by saying that it is difficult to please my Italian husband who lived in Italy for a few years and has high expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by Villagio. The service was very good and we got a quiet table in the back. We ordered the sausage in a clay pot for our appetizer and it was delicious. My husband had a veal and pasta dish and I had the risotto with seafood (not great) but my husband's plate was amazing. We were fighting over leftovers the next day. Will come back here again.

First time diner at Villagio. Whereas the reviews I read were mixed, I had a very nice time and will return. The food was good. Expansive menu. I had Brick Chicken. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. Best of all they had some Friday night entertainment. He did some pretty good lip syncing to a bunch of oldies songs. Memorable music that me and my girlfriend had a good time dancing to.

I agree... this place used to be top-notch. However, I believe the new owners are trying to make Villaggio's what it used to be. We had a terrible experience New Year's Eve dinner, but I've been telling everyone to give them a chance as I know many people love Villaggios. I want this local restaurant to succeed. But the price point of this caliber of restaurant is too high. Prices should come down to reclaim the validity of the food we are being served. Simply too high.

Service was quite good and a nice relaxed pace, nice to sit, eat and talk without feeling rushed. My daughter and I had a very nice meal, arrived about 5:30pm and dined until 7:00pm. She had the shrimp and I had the homemade fettuccine special. Dessert was quite good and so was the espresso. It is a bit on the higher side price wise.

Igood service could not make up for dissapointing food. fried calamri was overcooked and bland. I had clay pot linguini and clams, flavor was very fishy and portions for the price was not very good. There was only hand full of pasta in the pot..My husband had seafood pasta which the portion was better ? but also very fishy neither one of us ate much and leftovers were tossed. I would not go back due to the lack of fresh seafood. even the calamari tatsed off.

Kathy nailed it with 'used to be better'. One of their top cooks moved to The 3 Olives in Norridge (it shows, that place now has the exceptional food that used to be served here), double check their website to make sure he's still there (Claudio). Meanwhile, new ownership and different cooks here, food has become very mediocre, doesn't even seem as fresh anymore, there are better options

Decent food, nothing to write home about have been there before, but after service decline previoulsy thought I would try again when I was in the area. A mistake I will never make again. Two other tables of diners received "family" service along with one table receiving a free dessert. After the waiter sat and visited them for awhile. I made the mistake of mentioning that we would share a dish. Even though an additional salad and dessert were ordered to make up the difference of ordering two meals they still charged a $3.00 "sharing" charge. So, had I just ordered the salad and never mentioned "sharing" there wouldn't have been a charge. Shame really. Considered going there again to try another item on the menu, but will NEVER return with that kind of service. The charge was not on the original bill when handed to me, but after I already looked the waiter said "oh wait" took the bill and added the charge. When questioned about the $3.00 charge the waiter said "it was on the menu" and then proceeded to go get a menu and point out where this was worded hidden in the menu, not on the outside or in the section that mentioned 18% gratuity added to parties of 6 or more like most restaurants. I can understand the sharing charge, but not when additional menu items that cost the price of a second meal were ordered. Advice to Villaggio you will not gain additional repeat customers with customer treatment like that. I for one will never return your restaurant.

This is a family staple for us when we are looking for good italian food. The restaurant is not much to look at outside but inside you will enjoy a traditional italian meal. Many italian restaurants are not authentic enough. There will be no problem with this place. You can order out and get a 10% discount on your bill. Try it out and enjoy!

I love this place. They go out of their way to give excellent customer service and I've never had a bad meal here. Best thing is that they will make me something not on the menu since I am a vegetarian and I am never disappointed. Also, they have performers (signers, comedians, etc.) every so often which also helps bring a different touch to the traditional evening out. Make sure you go hungry! I always eat way too much of their amazing bread before dinner. SOO good!

Though in a strip mall setting and w/ an inside decor befitting a strip mall, my husband and I have had nothing but great meals here. I LOVE the lobster ravioli and my husband thinks the lasagna is maybe the best he's ever had. The service is always a little odd...it seems like every time we go, one of the waitstaff is upset w/ another. But there's a very short list of restaurants out there that have food that's worth looking forward to. I think this is one of them.

I didn't find the food to be that good... I had the lasagna and to me it was too runny and not much flavor, very plain. Appetizers were semi warm and not much flavor, you can tell they were not fresh but frozen. The bread that was brought to the table was excellent. The service was friendly overall, however server spent a lot of time talking and kissing inbound customers that didn't belong to his service area. Confused by other servers bringing food? I was asked only once if my cocktail needed to be refilled, over an hour being there. Finally, atmosphere seemed to be geared to an older crowd of 60+... I will not be returning!!!!

Favorite place because of friendly service, good food. Veal dishes are terrific and not expensive. Chicken sometimes a bit overcooked but good. Prices reasonable.Salad or soup included in price of meal. Sorbet between courses is a nice touch as is the bread tray with plain and pizza bread, Italian olives. Have never had anything but excellent wait staff. Surprised to hear the opposite! Don't miss the tiramisu but have at least 2 people to eat it. Have been there for parties and special occasions--party rooms for small groups.

Lovely place. From the moment we walked in, we loved the warm and inviting atmosphere. The waiter was very nice, attending and very knowledgeable about their dishes. We started with wine and appetizer platter suggested by our waiter and were very happy with the choice. I ordered salmon with roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach and everything was melting in my mouth. Couldn't stop eating. We are coming back for sure.

Food a little above average, service below average, (unless you're a regular apparently), this was told to me a few years ago by others who only went there occasionally but finally I witnessed it myself. My last 2 occasions i found the service extremely slow and waited while the waiter chatted with the 'regulars'. The last visit, after the dinner we were presented with the available deserts, I choose one. After waiting awhile, I was given ( not asked if I would want it) something different and was told 'we're out of what you wanted, but this is similar'. The norm would be the waiter coming to the table and informing me that my choice wasn't available and give ME the opportunity to pick the replacement. Apparently the waiter thought he knew what I wanted and decided to pick it for me. Then I had to wait 5 minutes after asking 2 different staff for a fork for my slice of cake. strike 1. I ordered coffee but had to ask for a refile after the waitress came over to take the plates away and asked if there was anything else we'd like. Every other restaurant I've been ask me if i'd like more coffee. strike 2. My girlfriend ordered tea with her desert ( we found out what she requested was not one of the many flavors presented to her. Luckly she had one tea bag in her purse. We mentioned to the waiter that she used her own tea. we get the bill Tea $ 2.00. Apparently they charge for a cup of hot water. Strike 3. I live 1/2 mile a way and will now drive the extra distance to the other local and better Italian Restaurants.

WAAAAAAH!!! Why can't 1/2 stars be an option?! This would definitely be a 4 1/2 star review if I've ever written one! A couple girlfriends and I met here on a Monday night for some yummy drinks and Italian food. We got nothing less than the best--the best service, amazing food, and a really fun and funny environment. The service was spot on. We had people checking in on us constantly but without being intrusive. They were making sure we had everything we needed and that everything that we ordered was good. And trust me, it was. We were one of two tables in there when we first walked in around dinnertime on this particular Monday. It surprised me that they weren't more busy, but it WAS one of the Hawks playoff game. I'm sure not many people thought to themselves "Where would be a great place to watch the game--A fancy Italian joint!!". It wasn't bad news for us, because the service was amazing :) We weren't quite sure what to order for drinks at first. Well, my cohorts didn't--It was Tequila Monday for me, so I got a margarita no salt--make no mistake. This was one of the BEST margaritas I've ever had! My friends got the house pinot and prosecco. Very good as well, but my drink was very strong but very smooth--definitely a hit at the table! We ordered the calamari (fried) as an appetizer. It was AMAZING. They even serve it onto plates for you. I am serious, the service here was top notch! For our meals, my one friend ordered the lobster ravioli, I had the Rigatoni, and our other friend had a really fresh-tasting pasta dish with a lot of vegetables (not sure what it was called, but it was yummy!) My rigatoni was AMAZING!! It was just the right balance of sauce and noodles as well as some of the best tasting crumbled italian sausage I have ever had! The dish was HUGE, too. The other meals were good, but I loved the sauce on my dish as well as the freshness of the pasta. We each had a dessert--because why wouldn't we?! All of them come on a long plate and the presentation is beautiful. Furthermore, the taste is amazing--which is kinda the best part. The only downside is the price, but I guess that's what you pay for amazing food! I will definitely be back again and again!! My friends are in 100% agreement!

Started going here again recently (used to work nearby, changed jobs years ago) and was pleasently surprised that the quality hasn't suffered. Food is wonderful, service is great and staff is always friendly. They've always been willing to serve items that aren't on the menu (my youngest loves lamb, they always are willing to make chops for him), and everything we've ordered has been excellent. Definately not the cheapest, but well worth the price.

I normally love going to Villagio's! The food is usually as close to homemade like I'm use to eating being Italian. But, we went there for Mother's Day and it was an expensive disappointment! The food was horrible! There was not 1 item that I tasted that resembled the Villagio's that I know and love! At $30 per adult and $15 per child...it was BAD and EXPENSIVE!!! Very little verity, buffet was super small with little to choose from. Calamari tasted like rubber! The chicken and sausage mess they concocted was hard and gross! The pasta was served at the tables but...only after you ate the crap that was served at the buffet. And they hand served the beef that came out so late that you weren't hunger anymore, because you were full from trying the other food. I'm not saying that I would never go there again...but I am saying I would never go there for a buffet again! Never!! Sorry, Villagio's but after paying $200 for 4 adults and 2 kids(that's including tax and tip). I was not happy with my experience! Next time there's a special holiday instead of buffet... Try a special menu instead! Stick to what works!

What a great meal of Italian food! Yum!!! We had a family style meal lasting several hours and I have to say they did not dissapoint. We started off with that bread basket, full of pizza bread among other options and it reminded me of the pizza from the Italian deli that my mom served as an appetizer every christmas! Then there was bruchetta, a light and refreshing salad, to be followed by an awesome vodka sauced pasta. At this point, I should have headed to my car and changed into buffet pants but I didn't. Silly me! Next up was some chicken and melt in your mouth mashed potatos, followed by red velvet cake, icecream and coffee. How did i drive myself home? In a food coma, that's how! Our server was speedy, refilled our drinks a ton so that we could wash down course after course, he promptly removed our empty plates and and he was very polite. Nicely done Villaggio!

We went there for my friends birthday on a Saturday. So there a band playing music kind of loud, I could talk to the person next to me but it was kind of hard. The food was great, great bread. After the appetizers they gave this small dish with like ice cream it in, it was wonderful. I had the ravioli which was great but I got meat sauce and cheese on inside which I should have switched. I got salad too which was okay. Great place to eat

Villaggio is a pretty good Italian place overall, but there are some things that made me give the stink eye, thus the knock down from a 5 to a 4...sorry, Paisans. The Good- 1) The pre-meal mangia. It's good. It's plentiful. It's different. Yes, you get the whole bread with oil thing, BUT you also get some parmesan without asking. (Thank you!) AND you get a small olive plate and some delicious red dipping sauce as well. YUM. 2) The marinara is delicious. And I am a HUGE marinara snob. So there's that. 3) The eggplant parmesan was awesome. The only thing I would ask for next time is more marinara. (See also: reason #2) 4) Service is pretty good and everyone in the restaurant seems to help each other out. I like that. 5) They have a decent wine list including some local wine too. Lynfred, HOLLA!! The Bad- 1) The place is really small and almost feels like you're interrupting a family meal if you aren't a regular there. I guess I just need to come more often? 2) The service is definitely different for regulars. I get that. Really, I do. But if you're going to start passing out Italian Ice, or Limoncello, or Gelato...pass some over here too, man. 3) The minestrone was meh. Not BAD, necessarily, but just ok. The Ugly- 1) There really is no UGLY, I guess. I just feel like you can't do a good and bad without an ugly too.

Since the last time I came here, this place has undergone some minor changes. 1. They got new more stylish menu's with a few small menu/price changes. 2. They changed some some staff...I think. As to the menu, they now offer a free soup or salad included with the split charge which I think is a pleasant surprise. I'm usually never a fan of split charges because its like charging you extra to dump the food on 2 plates instead of one. The fact that you're getting something makes this way better. Now every time I've come here so far, something went wrong with the service. This time it was SPOT ON PERFECT! Thanks to an attentive young waitress named Melissa who provided quick and efficient service. Food was still good and the free focaccia was still warm and fantastic. Definitely coming back sooner than last time. Keep up the good work!

4 1/2 stars Momma mia! I came to Villaggio on Valentine's Day for its romantic ambience. For beginners, they served both focaccia and Italian bread alongside olives, red sauce, and olive oil. The lentil soup was tasty but over cooked. The garlic salad dressing totally missed the mark. Before our main meal, they served lemon Italian ice which I thought was a nice touch. I ordered zuppa de pesce which I must say was absolutely perfect. My wife couldn't keep her fork off of it. After dinner, they served, on the house, small biscotti cookies. The place was clean. Servers were polite and very professionally dressed. I really enjoyed our visit here. Good job guys! IBB

Excellent and authentic Italian cuisine. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, very much like family. The menu has a beautiful selection of appetizers, homemade pastas and fish. Everything was outstanding and I am looking forward to going again!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
