Old Chicago Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

They serve Anchor Steam! My favorite beer ever! All the way out in Rockford, IL! That right there guarantees them at least three stars in my book. Their food was also pretty decent, though not really anything special. I'd eat here again, but I'd be going mostly for the little taste of home (San Francisco).

I go to Old Chicago once a week to play trivia on Tuesdays. I love it! My team and I have gotten pretty good and we win a lot. When you play trivia there, you can get 50, 20 or 10 dollars off your meal if you place in 1st 2nd or 3rd respectively. I have a lot of fun with it. They also have a "World Beer Tour" with a bunch of different Beers that is a lot of fun. The food is just o.k. The pizza is a safe bet but it won't blow you away nor will anything else on the menu. The staff is very friendly too besides a few here or there. Besides Tuesday or to catch a drink I prefer other places but I love going on Tuesday because trivia is so much fun. It starts at 8 and goes until 10.

I have been to this restaurant/pub a few times now. Every time I go I love that the server will bring you a sample beer along with your beer you order. I have a love to try new craft brews so this is great fun for me. They have a very large selection of craft beers on tap and bottled. Certainly a great place if you are into that sort of thing. Also they have amazing pizza! I love mine thin so that is usually my go to. Last time I had the double decker pep pizza, great great great. The only thing I would say that could be better is that it says there is hot sauce in that pizza and I couldn't even taste it. Overall though, great place for yummy food and good brew.

The best thing about my meal had to be the cheese fries (hopefully they wouldnt mess those up seeing that there are only TWO ingredients). Everything else was over seasoned and undercooked (chicken ceaser salad). Everyone at my table had a dish with chicken in it and we all put it to the side. It was too pink for comfort and it tasted like it was smoked over a fire of plastic. A little after I left, I started feeling queasy which worried me since I am pregnant. The waitress was okay. The atmosphere was okay. The one star is for the cheese fries, waitress, and atmosphere. I won't ever eat here again.

Can't complain. Everything was great. We used to come here a lot. Still one of my favorite places. Italian nachos are great. Priced right too.

Excellent service, incredibly nice waitress. Food was delicious. Had a thick crust pizza and their peppered bacon fries. Waitress told us the food took longer than expected to make and all appetizers were taken off by manager and that was awesome. Wouldn't have noticed if she hadn't said anything. First time there was great, would definitely go back.

Stop in for a late lunch on a Saturday and to watch my UNI panthers...lose unfortunately. But at least I had a good time doing it. Great food. I had one of the best Calzones that I have ever had in my life. Great Beer. I had originally ordered a Miller lite... big mistake. Before, during, and after my beer, my waiter Brian had suggested a half dozen or so alternatives. I decided to take him up on one of them and it was awesome. I can't see myself becoming a beer snob or anything like that, but I definitely need to try new things. Thanks Brian. Great service. Brian, our waiter, was great! Not just with the beer suggestions but with his service. Overall a great lunch, I highly recommend Old Chicago (ironically located in Rockford).

Absolutely love this place. Killer Italian nachos and the burgers are awesome too. I like to order my burgers medium so some times they are a little rarer that I like but It doesn't really bother me I don't drink alcohol anymore but the beer selection is massive and very popular for the craft beer foodie types

I'm a fan. It's kind of your standard sports bar in most ways, but they get it right. Where most sports bars fall short, these guys have the right idea: beer selection. The craft beer business is exploding, and it's disappointing when I find places that still only serve American adjunct lagers (Looking at you, Bud, Miller, and Coors...). So obviously I was glad to see this place offer a great variety. I loved my burger too, so with good food and good drinks, I will be back as regularly as possible.

Old Chicago has awesome beer selections and the staff is always very familiar with the produce and goods that they have. Also menu selections. I'm happy to come in when I do! If I don't get good service I don't tip for carry outs. Other than that everything is very Yummy to me.

This is simply not the same as the heyday. Old Chicago was one of the better spots on State St, but now it has sunk into the ranks of the average blah options.

Love the food-- double deckeroni pizza is awesome!!!! We've never had a bad server here, either. Lots of beer options as well.

I love lasagna. But not from Old Chicago. I've never had meat lasagna with carrots in it until I went to Old Chicago. Fet. Alfredo was served with hard noodles and was more the size of a kids menu (not undercooked, it was more like sitting out too long). Food wasn't served hot, sent two plates back... still wasnt hot the second time around. Too many other restaurants to try, doubt I'd go back to this one.

Great pepperoni rolls and beer selection.

Love this place!! My husband, myself and fiends come here every Tuesday for trivia! The staff is very nice and accommodating to trivia. Most wait staff would get mad due to lack of turnover on tables but here they are use to it. The food is superb, pizza which they are obviously known for is done to perfection. I have tried several of the appetizers and my favorite by far is the mozzarella sticks. Over the two years living in the Rockford area they have changed the presentation of the mozzarella sticks from a small fryer basket to a nice platted presentation with cheese sprinkled on top which is far more appealing. I have also tried the California Chicken Sandwich which is also phenomenal. My only complaint is sometimes you can get a dud for a server but for how often we go to this restaurant I believe that is expected.

Not much went right during out first visit and that had something to do with the food choices we made. OC is known for its pizza, and I wanted to give it a second chance to make good. Our second visit was beyond good, it was great. Their pizza is top shelf, and as advertised. This time, they also had the beers I was looking for. We'll be back!

    (4)
  • Ellie E.

The pizza is pretty good but their beer selection is amazing! Not to mention they have the best $5 mojitos I've ever had in my life! It's also a great atmosphere full of regulars who have all gotten to know each other and the staff. Everyone here is so nice!

Pizza not great but Italian Nachos are delicious!!! The service was good and food came fast. I would come back for appetizers but not for the pizza.

Been here a few times over the last year or two. Service has never been bad, but not outstanding either. The staff is always very friendly, however as was the case today, orders can be slow arriving. After a 45 minute wait, our group of 6 received 5 of it's orders, 15 minutes later the sixth. To be fair, they did not charge us for the sixth entree, but they sure came to the table and got many drink and beer orders they may not have otherwise. If this is intentional to sell more drinks, it not a really good business model. If it is not, than someone needs to pay attention because the food and atmosphere is great, but we got there at 6:30 PM with two kids and ended up leaving somewhere after 9 PM.

I was a first timer here recently and I will defiantly be going back! Great food and good beer variety on tap an the beer is so cheap!

There are only 2 reasons why I come here: Beer Tour and Trivia. Join the World Beer Tour, even if you're not from Rockford. It's free, and you get wonderful prizes after each milestone. On special occasions like Valentines Day and St. Patty's, you can partake mini tours to get cool T-shirts! They carry over a 1000 kinds of beers - not everything each day, but they do have a nice assortment. And to eat with your beer, they have really good make-your-own artisanal pizzas, buffalo chicken rolls, nachos, etc. Trivia on Tuesdays! Be sure to check out chicagoland trivia on Facebook to get each night's clues - they really help. The team names are really funny and you can request songs while trying to figure out which beer company ad features the Swedish bikini team. Go "Hoang Like a Horse!"

Order California chicken sandwich and mozzarella cheese sticks. Usually in the past year and somewhat recent months when I order the mozzarella cheese sticks they came in a basket. Now they come on a square plate with a lot more shredded cheese on top. The presentation has changed and I like it! I got the California chicken sandwich this time around as opposed to the normal pizza. I had to say the grilled chicken sandwich was unlike anything I've had in Rockford before. It was really good and I highly recommend it. The calzones are on my to try list and if you don't like chicken sandwiches, the pizza is great too! I was here the other night for trivia and I have to say this was a really fun night. It was really organized and I loved that part. It started at 8pm and ended at 10pm with around 20 questions. I liked the fact that for every specialty beer I ordered they gave me a sampler of another. I had the Goose Island Lime and the sample was 312, both were awesome. I ordered the 312 and got Stella as a sampler...amazing.

I've been very disappointed in the service of Old Chicago ever since they started using a new system. I've been going to Old Chicago for years. I love the food, completing the mini tours, and I am currently completing the 5th Beer World Tour. I have had nothing but problems ever sine Old Chicago has started using a new system. I don't understand why customers need to pay two separate bills if they use their World Beer Tour card. Every time I go to Old Chicago I have to pay extra attention to my receipt because every time I go either 1 or all beers don't show up on my World Beer Tour card. At first I thought it was a one time thing; however, this has happened the last three visits. I was told by staff that it would be fixed by emailing corporate but nothing happened. I live outside of Chicago and I use to make a point to stop into Old Chicago every time I come into Rockford. Lately I dread the thought of stopping by and dealing with the frustration of the changes.

Had a delicious pear cider and a calzone. Their beer menu is larger than their food menu. While the food menu is not unwieldily, that works to their advantage as they do what they do well. I typically order a calzone, today's included Italian sausage, chicken, and green olives, and it was tasty as usual. Service was good, prices were appropriate, atmosphere enjoyable.

I've been here a time or twelve. Okay, so maybe a little bit more than that since my name is on the Hall of Foam. For those that don't know, the Hall of Foam is when you complete their World Beer tour by drinking 110 different beers over an extended period of time. (You can only add 4 a day.) They have a good selection of beers, mostly bottled but they have a nice selection on tap as well. If you are on a budget, make sure you pay attention to the prices. They can be a little bit on the expensive side for some of their beers. Their beers rotate depending on the month or the theme of their mini-tours. (Usually 8 beers that follow a theme, right now it's St. Patrick's day, so all the beers have an Irish/Scottish theme for their mini tour.) They do get some unique and orriginal items on tap that you just don't find a lot of places, which is nice. The food is pretty good too. My wife loves the Sicilian pepperoni rolls and I'm a huge fan of the Classic Italian Melt with the Ranch Fries. If you just want a snack, try the Italian Nachos, definately worth it! It's also a good place to bring the family. It's generally not rowdy and the kids can order something off the kid's menu, including a 99 cent sundae in case the adults want to stick around for one more beer.

I've only been here once, it was on Tuesday Trivia Night, and the place was packed with other people in my late-20s-into-30s age range. LOTS of different beers on tap and in bottles, I had the Smuttynose Porter. My friend and I split an order of Pepperoni Rolls (ridiculously good) and caught up. The server was almost bizarrely attentive, considering that we made it pretty clear we were eating an app, drinking a beer, and chatting. Oh well...better that way than the "disappearing act" some servers pull. I would go here again, chain or not.

I visited this place with my coworkers couple of times and loved their pizzas. Servers are very friendly and timely even when the house is full.

Good food, reasonably priced, we love the pizza's there and its best to go early evening, later becomes a mad house and the front "hostesses" lack personality and professionalism...

This place has one huge thing going for it. It has 110 beers on hand! The deep dish pizza is DEEP and delicious. Service is here is super; the staff are all upbeat and friendly. My service at this location has always been excellent but I do generally belly up to the bar to watch the sports on T.V. The price of your meal really depends on what you have and what you drink but there are a couple of options for you to keep it under $10 Overall a good experience for a cookie cutter franchise establishment. I recommend the beer tour.

  • Roger G.

Pizza - Lets be clear - this is not true Chicago pizza. This amounts to fast food pizza. If you want good pizza there are plenty of other local options. Again this review is only for the pizza. The atmosphere may be great but the pizza is sub par.

Bottom line: drinking beer here is a game in which you are rewarded with things (besides a healthy buzz) such as playing cards and glow-in-the-dark Halloween t-shirts. It's the world famous World Beer Tour, and you continue to get goodies as you swipe your Old Chicago Loyalty Card all the way up to 110 rotating brews (four per diem) and your name on the Wall of Foam. Sometimes, the staff lets you add your party's beer to your card as well, which gets you the goods faster (but not the healthy buzz). Aside from the booze, the food is above average and the appetizers are solid. The pizza is about as good as one can expect from a restaurant chain. Furthermore, the service is fantastic. That's all you need to know, now get in the car and join the Club!

They have a fairly wide menu, from salads, pizza, calzones, pasta, to sandwiches, burgers and I think even steaks. The food quality is fairly standard when compared to other similar restaurants, but it has been consistently good. Their buffalo tenders are a solid choice. Consider this another vote for the Pepperoni rolls, they're pretty delicious. Where this place really shines though is in the beer selection - the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars. They have something like 30 beers on tap and many many many more in bottles. Heck, they have a whole loyalty program centered around their "World Beer Tour." They have domestics, imports, and craft beer. Seasonally they offer "mini-tours" consisting of 8 or so beers that when completed results in a limited edition t-shirt. The prices on beer and food are reasonable. And the atmosphere feels like a sports bar.

I am big into this place for the deep dish pizza, trivia, and beer tours! Our business crowd has become regulars at the Tuesday night Trivia. *Insider Tip* If you're the first to hand in the answer, you get bonus points! Pizza is consistently great, but the kitchen is disturbingly slow in churning out simpler items, like sandwiches. Our favorite server, Jessica, is a great balance of professional and fun.

I try to avoid the "chains" but sometimes, you have no choice. I didn't have a choice a few days ago. I went out of pity because the BF was sick, he loves the place so I figured it would cheer him up. It sure did. I think he was feeling much better when he found out they had the game on. I opted for the lunch special the calzone and salad combo. The calzone of the day sounded better coming from the waitress than it tasted. It was a ranch, turkey and bacon one. The salad made up for it. Our waitress didn't miss a beat either. She was very friendly and on the ball with refills. I won't rule Old Chicago out next time. There was plenty of other things I saw on the menu to try next time.

I ordered take-out za and the artichoke dip tray. 20-25 minute wait. (No delivery) Friendly host and the food was ready to go immediately. The guys loved the "chicago-style" (fake/half deep dish? who knows...it was delicious regardless) pepperoni pizza. They finished a medium between the 3 of them. I loved the artichoke dip (generous amounts), and the garlic bread dipping toast. It also came with with celery, carrots, broccoli and cucumber, which were all fresh. All in all, a good meal, worth the $35 I paid for it all. They won't take credit cards over the phone.

I want to tell you about my special relationship with Old Chicago. It's a bit of a love story that got obsessive at times, but can now be revisited without those feelings of regret that sometimes go along with old relationships. Old Chicago has been a fixture of my adulthood since the summer of my 18th year, when I would meet my boyfriend and his coworkers there for happy hour on Fridays. I learned how to drive a stick shift primarily so that I could be the designated driver after they all had too many beers - they didn't have the most discriminating of tastes, but Old Chicago is good for that. No one's going to look down their nose at you if you order a Hamms in a can or a Bud Light, or half a dozen of both, for that matter. I celebrated my 21st birthday at Old Chicago with a shot and the start of the World Beer Tour, which provided a really good excuse to try a lot of new beers - some of which I liked, many of which I didn't - and get free things (pizza, bottle openers, coolers, etc) over the years. While they don't have the finest beer selection in town, they do have a deep list, and if you're a beer drinker, you'd be hard-pressed to not find something you like on this list. The beer prices are average for Rockford - some are on the high end, but most hit the $3-6 range, so you should be able to catch a buzz and have a snack for under $20. I left Rockford in 2003, and since then, Old Chicago has been the go-to spot for meeting up with my siblings and friends when I'm back in town. The craving for an Old Chicago calzone will, without fail, hit me just as I start my trip home, or perhaps the night before, depending on how hungry I am. Like the beer list, their food isn't the finest specimen available in town, but it is solid, delicious, and a bit greasy. I love the make your own calzone, and I'm a new convert to the Meat Me, which my fiance and I can split and still be stuffed. I finished the World Beer tour a few weeks before my 27th birthday - a little less than 6 years after I started it. Our visits to Old Chicago have somewhat less urgency than while I was working on the tour - and probably less heartburn, as we're eating and drinking less - so I can enjoy them more. Oh, and did I mention that when I broke my arm on one of those visits to Rockford, our first course of action after getting out of the ER was a trip to Old Chicago? My fiance had to cut up my calzone for me, but oh, it was so worth it.

I had never been to an Old Chicago until this last weekend, when we decided to take an Old-Chicago-obsessed-friend there for her birthday. My experience with location based foods outside of their actual location is never a good one. Philly steak outside of Philly? Bad. Maine lobster outside of Maine? Bad. Key Lime Pie outside of Florida? Bad. Chicago pizza outside of Chicago? Meh at best. So why 3 stars instead of 2? Italian nachos. Whomever thought of topping fried wontons with meat, cheese, and tomato sauce is a genius. We absolutely inhaled these. The beer selection was also excellent, as was the service. I would come back for the nachos, not the pizza.

First time there in years. Food took forever to come out. When it did they forgot one of the orders and it came out 5 minutes later. Fries were cold and a tiny portion. You could see servers in the back talking and eating. We won't be back.

Old chicago is a great place to catch a game, have a meal, and most importantly enjoy a few craft beers with friends. Ambiance and Location 3/5: The restaurant has heavily Chicago themed decor, but is a little dated. Lighting is great and adjusted well depending on the time of day. It is located in a strip mall right on the corner with ample parking, however access is sometimes difficult due to the number of businesses in the area. Music is generally good, and they will often have the sound playing over the speakers if there is a big game on. Food 3.5/5: Most everything is made fresh daily, the menu items are pretty readily customizable, and they can often make favorites that are no longer on the menu. The management and wait staff is always willing to accomodate any requests. The only thing I don't love about their made fresh is that I have occassionally asked to have something modified (Eg. a Panini) and have been told that they make them up in the morning so they can't make changes (is it really that hard to make a sandwich??) Beer Selection 5/5 (Especially for the market): There are few places in the rockford area that have a beer selection comparable to old chicago. They have over 30 beers on draft, most of which are micro-brews and some of which are local. The servers and managers are mostly knowledgable (unless you sit on the dining room side) about beers and are great at recommending something for even the most discerning of palets. Service 5/5: Most all of the staff is very knowledgable of the menus and the beers. All of the staff is extremely friendly without being overbearing. Service every time I have gone has been prompt and I haven't often had a drink go empty. Management is almost always visible and quick to address concerns. Overall this is a great restaurant, there are a couple of things they could stand to work on, but the staff and beer selection elevates what would otherwise be a mediocre place to excellence.

  • Mike R.

When I lived behind this place, I formed an addiction (probably unhealthy). This is the first place I fell in love with beer. The selection has always been among the best I've ever come across. It's hard to ask for anything more. They seemed to have been ahead of the craft beer curve too, which is commendable. Food-wise, they've always done a great job. It's hard for me to find a pizza I enjoy more than the double deckeroni. Both types of nachos are great. They used to have a spicy tartar sauce that was killer (though I have heard that may not be the case anymore). Really can't think of an item I tried that I was dissatisfied with and I've partaken in most of the menu. It's still a bit pricey, but still well worth it. Service, both wait staff and bartenders, have always been great as well. Always worth a stop for a beer or four when I'm in town.
