Tried this place last Sunday night (they are open quite late for a Sunday, which was nice.). The atmosphere was authentic (colorful, telemundo on the tv, etc), however, they must have a jukebox there, because during the meal, someone started playing it as it is rather loud. The food was very good. I had the chicken burrito (regular size, which was rather big) meal and the beans and rice were quite tasty. My girlfriend had tacos, which she said were good as well. The bill was less than $20 for the two of us and we were full when we left. IMO, this is some of the better Mexican fare in Rockford, especially on the West side. Overall, I would go again and would recommend it to others.

The restaurant is VERY clean and decorated cute. The staff is very friendly and well dressed/clean cut. Most of all, the food was excellent. The flavor was just as it should be, not so spicy that you couldn't taste anything other than the heat. I had the Mole' Enchilada's (steak) and they were great. Even the beans and rice were tasty, something that sometimes falls short at Mexican restaurants.

My first meal in Rockford was a forgettable one. Good thing I'm writing this not too long afterwards. Looking for food on a Sunday night near the Rockford Memorial Hospital was extremely difficult. I should've known that everything in Rockford closes before 8 PM...DUH! We saw this place across the street from the gas station, wasn't sure if it was open since there were zero cars in the parking lot, but surprisingly it was. We ordered queso fundido con chorizo: pretty tasty! I know it's greasy but the ingredients make it like that. Since we got it to go, I added cilantro and some veggies to it to make it like a meal. My friend described the carne asada super burrito (filled with rice) as "blah" - nothing more, nothing less. It definitely filled him up with more to spare but if it doesn't taste great, who cares? I got a carne asada taco and a pollo taco, both were somewhat fresh, not overcooked, not spectacular. The flavoring in the carne asada was almost lacking...it was more like cooked steak pieces. Same with the chicken - like boiled shredded chicken. Kudos for being open on Sunday at 8 PM!

By far our favorite Mexican eatery in Rockford. Great salsa. Carrots, califlower and peppers on the table. Love the tacos w/ cilantro and onion and the chimichanga. Kid friendly. Home of our favorite waitress, Nancy.

While there are abundant authentic Mexican restaurants in town, this is my favorite. Always a different type of salsa served as a complimentary appetizer with tortilla chips. The meats have an inimitable flavor, and everything is always fresh. Excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
