    Go to the back door of this ghost town looking complex to enter. Their menu and specials are only available on their Facebook page if you've never snagged one from their restaurant. Even though we only did pickup, I managed to stroll through the restaurant to have a butcher's. Attire is somewhere in between casual and dressy. Altamore's is sadly only open to the public on Thursdays, which is my main criticism of the restaurant. Carry out, however, can be had any day of the week. My party of four shared two 10" pizzas. More like a lasagna than a pizza, as Anthony Bordain described Chicago style pizzas, unless you have an appetite rivaling a competitive hot dog eater, you will be eating leftovers at some point. Between the sausage and vegetarian pizzas, sausage wins. If you are in Rockford for a short time, definitely check this place out.

    There are plenty of places that have home cooking, but very few that make you at home as much as Altamore's does. The owner and his staff are welcoming and attentive, and the food is great. Wish they were open for dining more often, but it's worth the effort to get there when they are. Nice having so many different pizza crust options!

    We first went here for a private party and all the food was so delicious. They made several vegetarian and vegan dishes upon the host's request. All pizza, salads, and appetizers were delicious. Servers were friendly and timely. Location was strange (in between two bars), but atmosphere is cozy and romantic. We have since ordered carry out once and delivery once. Both times we got a large veggie pizza with delicious hand tossed crust and bruschetta. Pizza is so cheesy and full of toppings. Bruschetta is to die for. Carry out was ready fast (20-30 min). Delivery took over an hour, but it was snowing. This is our new go to place for carry out. But beware, they're closed on Tuesdays!

    Magnificent! I grew up on some of the best Italian food...or so I thought! The food, the people the entire experience is amazing every time I go here. I live 2000 miles away and get to visit this city but twice a year. The first thing on my agenda is ALWAYS a meal (or two) at/from Altamore's. Be sure to order the Cannoli for dessert....they are EVEN BETTER than my Nona used to make! Eat one there and take a few home for later! Top it all off with some homemade (yes home made) Lemoncello - out of this world!

    Review of takeout pizza only. We ordered sausage and pepperoni pizzas to pick up. The parking area is kind of depressing as the neighborhood in decline. Some might not feel at ease here, especially after dark. The pizzas were good, lots of toppings. The pizza crust was kind of medium thick, pretty good. All-in all a pretty average pizza, not outstanding.

    Simply the best Italian restaurant in Rockford. From the moment you walk inside, Alberto and his staff make you feel right at home. Home made cooking at its very best. You feel the love in the food.

    I have dined in for a private party and ordered delivery within the last month. The private party was awesome! Wonderful service and food! The rolls, bruschetta, bow tie pasta w/ vodka sauce, lemon chicken, and cannoli were all fantastic. We ordered delivery last night....it took about 90 minutes, but the food was hot and I kind of expected it from a mom and pop place on a snowy Saturday night. We ordered the muffaletti, the linguine pollobianco, and tiramisu. The muffaletti came with a side of pasta with meat sauce that was amazing and a small salad, what a deal for $8.95! I wished the muffaletti had some veggies in it and the linguine pollobianco sauce was quite tasty, but it was HEAVY on the butter! The tiramisu was perfect! Next time, I'll get a full order of the mostaccioli with meat sauce and try the pizza!

    Okay, so I've only been to Altamore for long, elaborate, 5-course Italian dinners. The type where you occasionally have to get up and take a walk in between courses. The owner is so passionate about food and service and it overflows into your experience here. Wonderful food and memories here. Last week was my third time. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.

    We called Altamore's last night at the last minute and they were able to squeeze us in for a late dinner. This was our first time and we were very impressed with the look of the restaurant, the staff, and the food. The restaurant is what you might call "cozy" but that just adds to the charm. The owner introduced himself and led us to our table which was upstairs. I liked that our table was upstairs, I could see all of what was going on downstairs. Once we got situated at our table, the owner named and explained about all the specials. I had the lasagna, which was wonderful. You could really tell that the noodles were homemade, they almost melted in my mouth. My partner had a thin crust cheese pizza, which was equally good ( I stole a slice!) We split a slice of the Moro In Camacia and it too, was awesome. If you like chocolate, that's the dessert for you. I could go on and on, but, I think the other reviewers have it covered. Altamore's is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it, and I highly recommend reservations ( the're only open for dine-in on Thursdays!) 9

    Spectacular! Altamore had been recommended to me for 2 years and until last night, I had never been. The building is kind of hidden in plain sight, right on N. Main and Auburn. I had heard of humongous glasses of wine (and not overpriced to boot), lavish yet simple Italian cuisine and the quaint and engaging atmosphere. To say I was not let down by my expectations would be one colossal understatement. Everything was phenominal. The atmosphere is charming. Tastefully decorated rough finished plaster walls adorned with tasteful paintings, pictures and the ocassional dried plant gives Altamore a wonderful setting. The waterfall fountain and mezzanine give the restaurant some wonderful architectural detail, which I truly appreciate. If I had one single negative thing to say, it would be that the waiting area is in between the kitchen and dining area, so it can be a tightly packed choke point. However, as soon as a brimming glass of wine arrives any negative feelings provoked by personal space being intruded upon are forgiven. The owner, Alberto, was incredibly kind and greeted us as if we had been long lost acquaintances. He is extraodinarily passionate about his food, another characteristic that I value highly in this age of food commercialization and franchises that lack any enthusiasm or dedication to cuisine. Onto the food. I will preface this with the fact that I have never, not once, found a lasagna that I have found to be palatable. Keep that nugget stored for a bit. A friend had raved for years about their special lasagna, which I arrogantly dismissed. After hearing Alberto speak so ardently about the special bechamel lasagna, my mind was reluctantly set. I thought to myself, "What the hell did I just do? I hate lasagna." I started my meal with a vegetable soup. As corny as this sounds; it was as if they put an entire garden in a pot, cooked it down, put it in a bowl and topped it with fresh parsley. Fresh and delicious. Dinner are served with a house salad of romaine, fresh tomatoes and a balsamic vinegrette but onto the lasagna! When the plates were brought out, something was immediately different than every lasagna I had had before. Fresh noodles and no ricotta! Major score! I personally abhor ricotta and was pleased that it wasn't invited to join this particular lasagna. Strructurally speaking it was your typical noodle, filling, noodle cheese and repeat. Except in lieu of ricotta, eggplant, cottage cheese and numerous other fillers I've had, there was a luscious bechamel sauce. The bechamel married fantastically with the fruity, sweet and savory bolognese. Simply amazing! Everything about this dish embodied perfection. Needless to say, I will be back and maybe they can sway my perception of ricotta as well. Tl;dr Wonderful ambience, gracious host, attentative wait staff, giant glasses of wine and the best food in Rockford under $15 for a dinner. Oh, the restaurant is only open on Thursdays but open for carry out on other nights, and make a reservation.
