I like this place very much. The service is great in my opinion. If You go in with a bad attitude Expecting a bad experience your attitude/energy brings it down for everyone. SOOO... I like this place, And I've lived in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.

I'm not really impressed with this restaurant. They use generic pop, but they say it's Pepsi products. It's false advertisement. My boyfriend got a margaritas & said they were really good. I had just a taco dinner, & it wasn't bad. Service was good overall. I just don't think it's the best for Mexican cuisine.

Found La Mex while looking for a place to stop while traveling, and had a good dinner. Chips are really good. Salsa is good, but not as thick as at some places. We had the Quesadilla Supreme with chicken and it was very good...and huge! Lots of shredded chicken that was very tender, peppers and onions, and lots of white queso cheese (not yellow or canned.). I asked for and extra side of pico de gallo, and that made it even better. All of the food we saw delivered to other tables looked appetizing, and with generous portions. La Mex was worth the stop, and made for a nice stop off of the highway. If we weren't traveling we would have tried the margaritas! (It isn't right at the interchange, so you do have to go a mile or two in to town, but worth is, is you want something other than fast food.

Bland food, that pretty much sums up eating there. The drinks are big and strong and the decor, typical. The staff was very attentive, so I gave it two stars.

Great food, stiff margaritas, friendly serving staff! A plus!

Went there with family and we all agreed that the food was really bland and had little flavor. The service was sub-par as well; you really had to ask for things because the waiter sure wasn't offering any service. Drinks were warm with very little ice to cool them off. Yellow cheese sauce (like what comes out of a can) on nachos in an authentic Mexican restaurant is pretty bad; most use queso. Taco bell serves better Mexican! The decor and atmosphere is decent, but overall I don't recommend this place at all.

This would be a 3-star place in Seattle. But this is Pontiac, IL. Good food with fresh (if predictable) ingredients and friendly staff. Be warned the portions are ginormous. We only had take-out, but I get the impression the place has a warm atmosphere best described as "authentic American Mexican restaurant".

i've been to la mex several times while visiting my parents. the food is good, service is prompt/friendly, margaritas are strong, prices are moderate. i usually get the chicken enchiladas with the spiciest sauce and a margarita on the rocks. chips and salsa are some of best i've had! the food and decor are comparable to many casual mexican restaurants in chicago. i think la mex is a great addition to pontiac and hope that the restaurant will continue on for years to come!

After leaving La Mex, I wanted to call it La Sux. It was not worthy. I was hoping the Mexican joint near McDonald's was open, but it was now an Italian Bistro or something. We ran into La Mex entirely by accident. I concur with the review from John H. Food was bland and flavorless. Nothing seemed authentic except the waiters with heavy accents. Service was slow. As for Kelly T's comments, didn't consume any margaritas so can't say the margaritas were bad. Salsa was watered. I will say the skirt steak was good, but what can you do wrong with a skirt steak? Cheese in my sons quesadilla looked like cheddar. Two adult entrees, a kids meal, two sodas and a side of sour cream for $30.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
