heard a lot of great things about this place, but not all that impressed. i had the sweet & sour pork & it was ok, but nothing special. egg drop soup was fine. i'd go here again, but can't rave about it.

We have been here many times because the food is fantastic. We learned recently, however, that they do not understand what closing time means. When we called ahead to see if they were still serving lunch, we were told they closed at 2:30pm, so we went for lunch and arrived at 2pm. What closing at 2:30pm means to them is they turn the lights out at 2:30pm and rudely remind you throughout your meal that they close at 2:30pm. If they had said they stopped serving at 2pm, we would have gone somewhere else. i did not appreciate the bum's rush and normally would not return to a restaurant after being treated this way, but the food is THAT good. Just don't go for lunch after 2pm.

Best Chinese in Peoria! We usually get take-out and if you call ahead it's always ready to pick up in 15 minutes. The hot and sour soup is amazing and so is the crab rangoon. We love to get the General Chons chicken, beef and broccoli, paper wrapped beef, pot stickers... everything we have tried has been amazing!

I've been going here since my brain could start processing memories. So, this is the Chinese food I base the quality of all other Chinese foods on. Love the hot and sour soup, fried rice, General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Beef...the food is good, not greasy. We usually order it sans MSG. The price is good also. I see many people have complained about the service. Don't take it personally. She's very nice in her own way. She's been working there forever. All around thumbs up.

Many reasons to enjoy only one to dislike. Food: excellent. One of the better Chinese places by far. I love my food spicy, but I've found many restaurants will make my food mild tasting even when I ask for hot and spicy, however, this was by the case here. I ordered the shrimp lo mein. Perfectly spicy, great tasting, plentiful large shrimp, and the portion was large enough for left overs. We also had the beef Yakatori skewers as an appetizer. Absolutely delicious and succulent. I love egg drop soup, but the soup tasted a little burnt, but it was near the end of the night. Price: prices were more than fair. My boyfriend and I paid about 10 dollars for soup, appetizer, dinner. Service: it seems that many reviewers love the service here. My boyfriend and I had a less enjoyable experience. Our waitress was quick but not always attentive to our needs. (my boyfriend's drink needed to be refilled for about 10 minutes) and out waitress seemed pretty pissed to be there it the first place. She asked pretty much point blank, "what do you want?". We felt a bit unwanted, but maybe she just had a bad day. It was 8:30 ish at night when we came in. (they close at 10). Other than that... The food was better than most, prices were definitely right on, the only reason they didn't get five stars was because of the service. We plan to come again in the future. :)

Super fast and cheap. My coworkers and I go there a lot for lunch due for those reasons. Pineapple pork is amazing! Wish more Chinese restaurant offered this menu item. Even though the shell of the crab ragoon is amazing since they are small and thin, the stuffing is pretty much cream cheese only which is dissapointing.

I've eaten nearly everything on the menu and all of it is good, very good. The Soups are great, the portions are immense. I wish the place was a little nicer inside but it has it's own personality. It's very casual but I go there as the go to place at least once a week. It's the best Chinese in Peoria.

I absolutely love this place. One of the last bastions of the sit and dine Chinese restaurants of the past. In a world of take out only or buffet Chinese this place stands as it has for years. The food here is fantastic, with a wide array of choices. Large family style portions and good service. And as far as I am concerned the best Hong Kong noodle this side of the Great Wall. Do yourself a favor and go here to eat food.

Came here on a Sunday night for take out. I just ordered shrimp fried rice. Unfortunately it was mostly rice. There was not more than 10 small shrimp in it. The flavor was not bad though. I probably would not go back.

The BEST Chinese in Peoria! My husband's family would go here often when he was growing up and now I love it too! They have amazingly cheap lunch specials ($5.50!!) that include soup, won ton or egg roll, tea, and the main dish. I love their chicken lo mein, mongolian beef, cashew chicken, chicken and broccoli...and the list goes on!!! Their Sunday brunch is the best...their crab rangoon, green beans, and sliced potatoes are soo good. I love all their food really. Can't be beat!

This restaurant has always been my favorite Chinese restaurant in Peoria. Went there tonight for dinner and was totally disappointed. The tea was barely warm when the pot was set down. I ordered a chicken dish with BBQ sauce (I have had it before and loved it) -- but it tasted like it was cooked in a skillet that fish had been cooked in previously. When I asked the waitress about the taste and the potential cooking confusion -- she blew me off. I asked for the tea to be warmed up and it took over 15 minutes. No longer a Yen Ching fan. Maybe a victim of the economy and cutting corners, but I will not be back.

The staff is SO friendly and make you feel right at home. Great sit down restaurant. The service is quick, but not too quick to think that the food is pre-made. Everything I have had is always fresh and hot. The food is very good. It seems more traditional than a lot of the quick-serve Chinese restaurants in the area. Must tries include: hot tea egg drop soup moo-shu pork egg rolls Very nice place for an affordable dinner. I can also almost guarantee you will leave with leftovers!!!

My family has been dining at Yen Ching for over 20 years. The faces have changed some over the years, but the food is still very good. For years and years I always ordered the Mongolian beef and turned my husband onto it, but then discovered their chicken Lo Mein is very good, too. Recently a friend introduced me to their Szechuan string beans, which are great (they do include pork even though they are listed as a vegetable dish). The lunch specials are very affordable and come with soup, egg roll or crab rangoon and rice. I am also a big fan of their sizzling rice soup, and they serve "Exotic Polynesian cocktails". What's not to love about that??

the food was alright, but the service... our server wouldn't really speak to us. my 75 year old mother tried to make a little small talk with her... nothing! i asked for chopsticks, & she just turned & walked away from me. she did return a few moments later with them, but how rude! we were the only table in there... she wasn't busy taking care of other guests. then, as we were finishing our meal she kept walking back & fourth passed our table taking our dishes almost before we even finished with them. then... at 2:26 she put the bill on the table, & said, "we close at 2:30!" don't worry, i won't be back so i won't interfere with your closing time! since being treated rudely is how most of peoria rolls... i guess that's how a place like this has stayed in business so long?!?!

My husband and I order the wonton soup religously. However, I cannot have MSG and there are simply not enough items on their menu without it. Their prices are reasonable and portions large. There is also a very assertive waitress there that tends to intimidate us a little.

My wife and I went here about a week ago for some afternoon Chinese. Nice little place, but nothing different here. I went here because of all the good reviews. Hard to rate a restaraunt on only one visit, but we got the sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice, General Chon's Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein (a little heavy on the chicken maybe?). Nothing wrong with the food, but not real impressive either. Everything had the same flavor so it really didn't stand out. Personally, I hope that this isn't "The Best Chinese in Peoria" as another yelper quoted, but I haven't yet found a better place, so they might be right. But that doesn't make it excellent either.

I love chinese food and scared to eat at chinese restaurants and take out place. The food was decent but had MSG. I told the waiter "NO MSG, NO Agee no motto". for some reason she dint understand. Thats the usual problem with chinese restaurants. The service was quick and price was cheaper. We had dinner in under $15.00. Will not go back mainly because of MSG- unless i decide to kill my self.

Reasonably priced, consistently good American Chinese food. It's always better when you eat in, but carry out is always a quick option. Smash on some crab Rangoon and Kung Pao chicken is my suggestion.

A family favorite for us. My regular dish is broccoli beef and hubby gets Mongolian beef. Best crab Rangoon ever!!

My mother is the main server here--for those of you complaining about service, just ask her and she will be glad to assist you with whatever you need, be it water refills, questions about the menu, etc. She is intimidating at first, but kind in heart (trust me, I lived with her for 18 years). The restaurant is slightly understaffed, but my mother tries to take care of all the patrons. The dinner rushes get very busy, and at that point she just focuses on delivering the right dishes to the right tables. But don't be afraid to ask her for anything--she will get whatever you need if you just stop her on her sprints to and from the kitchen and just ask. About the food--most dishes are great, but they are Americanized Chinese food (hard to find authentic around Peoria). Personally, I like the Black Pepper Beef and the Chicken w/ Garlic sauce. Avoid the Peking duck and BBQ Spare Ribs--these are the worst in my opinion.

Frequently get carry out - wish they had delivery service! Have never been disappointed with the food. Crab rangoon is some of the best ever. Beef with vegetables is great and has plenty of meat and amazing variety of Chinese vegetables!

We got takeout on a Sunday night. veggie lo mein, Mongolian beef, sweet n sour chicken, fried rice, crab Rangoon. we served family style so I tried everything. so fresh! best fried rice i have ever had. only critique is that I like my crab rangoon a little sweeter. sweet and sour sauce also wasnt as sweet as the buffets we have visited...but i actually liked that it wasnt so sweet (go figure). quick and easy ordering over phone. they use vegetable oil (we have a peanut allergy kid--so peanut oil was my worry esp at an ethnic restaurant). pick up was quick and easy. we all agreed that this will be on our regular rotation!

I return here regularly, a few times each year, though never a great experience, always generally satisfied. They're steady and reliable. The food is good but not outstanding. Portions are ample. The decor hasn't changed in 20 years. Mostly clean but not sparkling. The rest rooms make me worry about the kitchen. The service is always efficient but rarely overly friendly but never brusk. Overall a comfortable visit every time meeting my conservative expectations for the place. As always I will return.

Always enjoy our food from here...General Tsos to lo mein, it has all been really good. Gotta try their paper wrapped chicken appetizer....pieces of chicken wrapped in foil, marinated in something delicious...really good serving size too! Couldn't eat an entire order, even as my main dish. Recommend!

Had not been to Yen Ching for awhile. Very disappointed in tonight's entrees. I ordered Mongolian beef-beef was very dry and not much sauce. My mom ordered chicken chop suey which was mushy, had no color, and was very bland tasting. We each also had an eggroll which was good. Don't like the Chinese buffets but wondering what has happened to the fine Chinese dining in Peoria? Won't be returning to Yen Ching.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
