This is a no frills place, but it has amazing tacos de lengua. Well worth the drive along Adams from downtown for them alone. Additionally, more salsa for chips than you can shake a stick at.

The food was good. I had tacos de lengua and cachetes and the burrito al pastor was delicious. The atmosphere was lacking a little bit, but overall a good quick lunch stop but definitely no frills. CASH ONLY

A little about my expectations first. I grew up near Joliet, IL which has a thriving Mexican population and their many restaurants reflect that authenticity. The looks of this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired but I've got a "thing" for Dives. Most are very good and are ran by nice families that put their hearts and souls into the cooking. I should have been tipped off when I first walked I. And overheard the owner berating his son right at the counter. I decided to order anyway lord knows everyone had bad days. After receiving my burrito the size was quite small and the beans were cold and hardened inside the wrap. I took a few bites and after hearing the "Father" start in on the wife I decided This experiment was over. Steer clear of this place in my humble opinion. An unhappy staff does not create good meals...

My wife and I headed here after a recommendation from a friend who is a chef. We went for lunch on Wednesday. The place has been recently redecorated and looks pretty good. The bathroom is outside and the tables are pretty basic but the walls, ceilings and floors are all clean and new. The chips and salsa are awesome! You get three different bowls; one is a mild green tomatillo, the second a tasty red and the last was salsa de molcajte . Basically ground up tomatoes, peppers, garlic, cilantro, etc. simply amazing! I had Garlic chicken which was great. It comes with a potatoes and carrot salad and one of the best version Spanish rice I have had since my Mexican Sergeants wife made food for us in the 80's. I have been eating Mexican food my whole life growing up in a migrate labor community in Northern California. My wife had beef Brisket with pepper, onions, and cheese. Also good. On the way out, the owner offered a taste of the grill chicken... Excellent! We are going back on Saturday for chicken Mole, tamales, chili Rojo AKA chili Colorado and that excellent Spanish rice! Go for the food!

I knew the ambiance was going to low and that didn't bother us. We were looking for a cheap meal and on our way to El Mexicano we changed our minds and wanted to try something new. We only had $15 and queso dip and guacamole are a must for us. So that is all we got, with each of those items at about $6 and the water was bottles so it cost that was all we got. So I don't know how the quality of the food was. Unfortunately the queso, was actually canned yellow nacho cheese. The guacamole was very fresh, however it was missing lime. The salsa was delicious, however both they serve were too spicy for my friend. The service was great, very tentative and nice.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
