The price is killer. $6.80 for a hot dog and fries. Brutal, even though the food was good. I grew up in Northbrook and understand crazy prices but come on now. Not cool. Go to Superdog in Wheeling if you want a great hot dog at a better price. I'll come back next time I'm in town and try the Mexican food though. Maybe that will justify the price, somewhat. But yeah, I miss Fluky's.

Nahhhhh. Way too many reasonably priced hot dog joints in the area to even consider eating here. Just nah.

When I heard that the old Little Louie's was morphing into the new Little Louie's, I shed a tear. Not just for nostalgia's sake, but their deep fryer was unable to make the transformation. Sad, but true. The new version of the restaurant is much cleaner, much more sterile, and much worse. However, you can still get a decent char dog, the Polishes aren't awful, and the fries still edible. It's no longer a "must visit" when I'm back in town, but they serve Vienna Beef dogs with bright green pickle relish and sport peppers on S. Rosen's buns. It's not all bad.

Food was about average for any hot dog joint. Pricey (about 2x what you usually pay for hot dogs, fries, etc.)

My two stars are both for the fries in the bag. They are really damn good and hard to compete against. You come here expecting to eat for cheap, but all hopes of that will end when you see the price board. I seriously saw they had a meal deal that included a cheeseburger and fries for $6.99!! Can I get a back massage or something extra with that too? Unless you want the fries for a nice greasy snack, don;t eat lunch here. If it's hot dog stand food you crave, look no further than Cookers Red Hots on Lake Cook near Waukegan Rd. in Deerfield. The prices are a fraction of the cost and the food is that much better. Oh yeah, the guys that bought this place out and turned it into a hodge podge north shore diner....you guys suck. You also don't support any local activities such as sponsoring baseball teams or anything like that. I heard they're from Highland Park.....Go Home.

I think most people used to go to Little Louie's for the greasiest (and best) french fries on earth. Sadly, as other reviews have noted, in these times where people make a show of their heath concerns, the fries are no longer. Still, the dogs and fries are good. Prices are high - well, higher than they were in the greasy days.

Over $8 bucks for a hotdog, fries and a Coke is a bit steep for what they're offering. I won't be back.

I grew up going to this place. I like this place. I love hot dogs. Some would say I love hot dogs too much. BUT Last time I was there I got a polish sausage, cheese fries, and a coke. It was very good. Tasty. The polish had a nice snap to it. The only problem was that it ended up costing me just under $10. It just not worth it for me at all to spend that much money on a freaking hot dog.

Wow talk about suck, this place is terrible. In conclusion the food is over priced and the new management is weak.

This place sucks. I miss Eddie the original owner, the greasy fries in a paper bag, the hand written signs and standing at the counter. Louies is now just another north shore hot dog stand that is waaay overpriced. go bears.

I DO NOT understand the low ratings here. Yes it is expensive - but come on at this point you should expect that from Northbrook/North Shore. The food is AMAZING. Not only do they have great unhealthy fried food like hot dogs and celebrity themed sandwiches/meals, but they have a healthy menu option. My favorite is the chicken avocado wrap and the tuna salad. Believe it or not since I moved to Chicago this has been what I have missed the most about Northbrook. Everytime I go back this is one of my stops. The fries are also amazing - the Freshi Fries are topped with bacon and a spicy aioli and are to die for. We really need them to open a chicago location because the city is lacking in gourmet wraps. The ingredients are fresh and the people that work there are the BEST. Don't miss this place !

There are plenty of places to go for a hot dog, this is not it. But, they put Italian beef in a wrap with fries, grilled onions, cheese, giardiniera, spicy mayo-aptly named the King Beef. This is for sure a five star sandwich, and they probably have a few other overboard concoctions worthy of pigging out on. The fries are better than good, and with a side of merkts cheddar... It's good grill food. Sure they're overpriced, and that tells you something about either the owners or the consistent clientele that keeps them open, but they're not ripping people off.

  • Josan K.

Service was good. Food was average. $10 for one hot, cheese fries and a drink. +1 for merkts cheese though $12 for a two hot dogs, fries and a small drink. Where is a cheap hot dog stand north willow road????

Not bad. Get it to go. Open on Sunday. Don't forget to check your order before you leave, just in case. I had the southwest chicken wrap and chips with salsa. The chicken was good and the chips were definitely a good brand, and while the salsa was fresh it wasn't quite enough, though the avocado in the wrap made up for that. The gyros looked decent too.

1 Star is maybe too generous... We went to Little Louie's because of a recommendation, and boy what a colossol disappointment. First of all, because Northbrook is an affluent community the prices are absolutely out of line (Seems that merchants in town feel they can charge whatever they like and people will pay it. Sadly, in many cases they are correct). Anyways back to the food. The hot dog was marginally acceptable-nothing special, just a regular hot dog. The cheeseburger we ordered was a JOKE-I have never seen such a small beef patty on a bun. It was dwarfed by the tomato slice. It was about as substantial as a White Castle burger, except at $2.75 one would expect at least a little value for the $$$. Even the bun was stale. OK, then the fries came HIGHLY touted to us. They were at best bland, very greasy, the kind a bad cook would make on their home stovetop. $1.80 for a SMALL order of fries (and I mean SMALL). The whole experience just left us feeling that we had been taken for a ride. If you have ever been to Portillo's, or any of the numerous excellent dog-and-burger places in Chicagoland, you WILL regret having stopped at Little Louie's and being FLEECED. I am convinced that its popularity is due in large part to the fact that it was perhaps ONCE a good place-and it works in their favor that they're about the only game in town. Convenience wins out over quality and value, again.

I keep coming back here hoping that the next time is better than the last. I have had burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and tacos (over $3 for a standard taco.....really?). Nothing has impressed and because they are in my neighborhood, I really wish they were better.

Yes, Little Louie's is pretty unreasonably priced, but they do have the perfect Chicago dog, which is increasingly hard to find in the suburbs. Plus the high prices, like the high gas prices, has the positive effect of limiting your bad behavior. They have all three of the authentic ingredients that most joints miss at least one of: natural casing, poppy-seed bun, neon relish. And they know not to offer ketchup on the "everything dog," unlike other confused north-shore places. One of the local coupon flyers (I can't recall which) often has 20% off coupons to help ease the sting of LL's high prices. Lowered a star for opening a half hour late, not answering our knocks on the door though they were working, and not apologizing when mentioning this.

What a shame. This place used to be a Northbrook institution. Now, its just overpriced and very average in terms of food. I would recommend Josh's instead.

  • Dan M.

They have a wider variety of food than a typical burger/hot dog place and much of it is good. There are good healthy options. However they charge a ton for the soft drinks. I mean, around $2 for a 16 oz soda? That's gorging. They benefit from location to be able to charge that much.

I used to go to Little Louies 5 years ago, so I was really excited to be back there today. Much has changed. I ordered a chicken club wrap and onion rings. I was shocked when the bill came up to $12. It also made me worried when I saw the cook reading off a sheet of paper as to how to make the wrap. There was a good amount of chicken, but the taste was rather bland. When I ate the onion rings it almost tasted as if they were breaded with panko bread crumbs. Again, very little flavor. It was just not what I remembered.

Just ok at best and man is this place over priced!! I work down the street and have tried it several times but just not a good place for a burger or hotdog anymore. Funny enough I had the tamales and they were delicious!!

  • Megan S.

I'll be the first to say it, but I think people are missing the point. That's cool that you have nostalgic memories about this place, but the truth is that it's really evolved above and beyond these hot dogs and fries of yesteryear that everyone seems to be bringing up. You no longer come here for hot dogs, you come here for the mexican, namely the tortilla soup and homemade tamales. Yum. Go ahead, take one look back in the kitchen and you'll get the feeling that the guys are using their mothers' and grandmothers' recipes. And believe me, that's a good thing. Calling it the best lunch option in the area isn't really saying much due to the lack of similar restaurants, but definitely worth a look for the awesome mexican food.

First and last time at Little Louie's, 2 hot dog tasted like they were sitting in water too long, fries were under cooked and the small drink was all ice . . . and all for the incredibly high price of $11.15 Do yourself a favor, pass by Little Louie's and find a Portillo's

    (1)
  • Alan R.

Pretty average as far in comparison to other Chicago Delis. I liked Josh's a lot better. The grilled chicken sandwich was good, but not great. They do have one of the most diversified menus for fast food that I have seen. There is definitely something for everyone on the menu,

Our office has gotten food from Little Louie's quite a few time. In fact, I have tried the majority of their menu. I have to say that I am not the hugest fan of their American fare (to be fair, I don't like Italian beef sandwiches in general), but their Mexican cuisine is delightful. My two personal favorites are their chicken wraps and their steak tacos. The wraps are made with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and this dee-licious bbq chicken. The sound of it may seem odd, but it is actually amazing. Their steak tacos are very good because the meat is cooked to perfection. They also double tortilla the tacos so you really get a good grip on those suckers as well as you can use the second tortilla as a mop-up whatever fell out of your taco. I am totally on board for this way of thinking!

This place is alright. It was nice to see two younger guys take over the ownership of this place years ago instead of letting it shut down. But the prices are a bit much and it's really nothing overly special. The biggest advantage they have is there aren't many places like it in the area.

The dogs are good but just way over priced. Good location but really guys I can have awesome sushi for what you charge.

I was in the area and looking for a little bit of lunch as it was getting late and I had a dinner appt at 5PM, so just something simple was in order. I figured, "what could be simpler than a hot dog, fries and a coke" so I stopped at Little Louie's - a place that I had noticed before, but had never stepped in. Here's the killer - $7.96 for a hot dog, fries and small drink. REALLY? Are these Kobe beef dogs? Maybe it comes with a bottle of Dom Perignon. Or the fries are cut from the Idaho State Fair Spud of the Year. Unfortunately, the "answer" is D - none of the above. Could have gone to Portillo's and paid less for the same or better type of dog and better fries. Or Frannie's (albeit a bit of a trip from Northbrook), with 2 dogs and fries for $5. Or Kookers up the road behind Dearbrook Mall. Glad I stopped in - know better not to the next time.

OK so the dumpy old house it was in when I was in High School is gone and it is now part of a strip mall. OK, so the prices are not int the "cheap eats" category anymore. OK so I went there trying to recapture some of the memories of my friends and I getting hot dogs and eating them in the park. Yeah there are some pictures of the old place on the walls. But they still try to give it a local feel that you won't get at a chain like Portillos. The hot dogs were fine but I will tell you the fries were MUCH improved from my high school days. They did not leave a puddle of grease in the bottom of the bag.

I have to agree with Megan S., I think a lot of people are missing the point. As a newcomer to Northbrook I only know the "new" Little Louie's, and I have to confess, it's struggle not to have lunch there every day. Coming from an office of dieters and calorie counters, you would probably be surprised to know that Louie's has something for everyone I work with - whether it is a burger, a hot dog, Mexican (this could be a different post in itself, the guys in the kitchen REALLY know what they're doing here), a delicious salad, etc. The beauty of Little Louie's is that it appeals to almost everyone, though you wouldn't immediately suspect it. It comes off as a "greasy" hot dog joint, and you can easily make it that with a chili dog and fries, but Pete, the owner, has factored in some critical changes in taste, diet and current food trends that allow for anyone who walks in to find something good. Like I said, I work with a group of body & food conscious individuals. I mentioned to Pete once that we couldn't "afford" to eat lunch out every day - calorie-wise. Pete fixed us all up and turned us on to the chicken chili and salads offered at Louie's - granted, some salads are "sugary" with candied walnuts, etc. but Pete was honest about that fact and steered us in another direction, making us all become addicted to the BBQ Chicken salad. This, my friends, is not anything extraordinary in what it is, but what is extraordinary is the quality & freshness of ingredients, notably the DELICIOUS and fresh, and bountiful, grilled chicken. Seriously. Pete effectively sold us on a great lunch option, kept us under budget both monetarily and calorie-wise, and we didn't have to eat some foul, microwaved, diet food. What really confuses me about these extremely negative posts about Louie's is that it's "so expensive" and I remember someone saying $2.75 was a rip-off. Right. If you want something inexpensive, please go to McDonald's, or somewhere equally as terrible. But if you want something PRETTY INEXPENSIVE, but also fresh, tasty, great quality, fast, etc. go to Louie's, of course. My lunch is, without question, under $10.00 every day, which in my opinion, is the benchmark for an "expensive" lunch. Sadly, we are about to move offices, but almost everyone has mentioned "making a Louie's run" once we move. We definitely will, though our addiction may have to be curtailed to a once-a-week thing. Damn!

This place is just taking advantage of their location near a park and a couple schools. It is better than it was when I was a kid, but the prices are higher too. Can't say I won't go back there, so still got to give it 3 stars.

decent place, hard to mess up hot dogs, but its a good local spot. clean place, and the fries are not all that great. Who doesnt like a hot dog? so hard to really screw it up.

This place blows! The food is mediocre at best and extremely overpriced. I've always felt ill after eating their ultra greasy garbage. The service is below average and slow. The only thing the owners have succeeded at is turning this Northbrook gem into a place not worth going to anymore. Very sad.

This place is terrible, burnt grilled cheese and tables were not wiped down at 12pm.

  • Megan K.

Pretty average hot dog joint. They've recently expanded their menu to include "healthy choices" which includes wraps, pitas and salads. We've tried several of these new items, and have mostly been unimpressed. After you add a soda, it's difficult to keep your bill under $10. It's also cash only. I'd recommend driving down Waukegan and hitting up FredHots and Fries ( yelp.com/biz/UP3e5n7usv5… ) instead.

I used to go here all the time when I was little. Hot dogs and fries in the Village Green during baseball season= classic. BUT this place has changed a lot since then. no more green river...what the hell? the prices have gone WAYYY up, its way overpriced. And the atmosphere is just not the same. the food is still good, but not like I remember Little Louie's to be.

    (3)
  • Ken S.

Gag me with a spoon!. The burger was mediocre, at best. But the fries tasted like they were fried in 3-day old oil. Plus it was lunchtime on a Saturday and there was no one in the place (not a good sign). If the area wasn't so sparce of fast food places, this dump would be out of business by now.

  • Johnny S.

Now, I have not been to this place in a few years since it changed management. The ORIGINAL Little Louies was a classic hole in the wall greasy hot dog stand with the best greasy french fries ever, the grease oozing through the paper sack. Add to that the classic Chicago dogs and you have a genuine Northbrook treat! I also loved how they used random cups from various restaurants that were whatever the cup manufacturer must have had leftover from an order. Truly a great place where the shouts of "WHADDYA WANT" could frighten the toughest school kid. Anyway, nowadays it is a rather average hot dog stand from what I can tell. Still I would recommend going there before winter sets in, getting a dog and fries, going across the street to the Village Green, and sitting on a park bench and eating your lunch as the squirrels beg for french fries. Thats livin'!
