The best!!! I'll put it up against ANY place in the city. Some of the best sushi creations I've ever tasted. Try the Naperville Sushi.

The vibe is good but the sushi is mediocre for the price. Small rolls that are just ok

Hands down best sushi in Naperville. Excellent service every time, and the food is always fresh and comes out quick! We are regulars and plan to be forever. Thanks Wild Tuna, keep up the great work!

My favorite sushi in Naperville! Try the Godzilla roll for an all around delicious meal. You'll only need 1 - it's big! Also good: asparagus with beef, sweet potato roll, shrimp tempura and all the appetizers.

My favorite sushi in Naperville - a fun venue, awesome owners, and oh yes - the sushi. It may be the Sapporo running in my veins, but I always have a great time when I'm there. I can't even tell you my favorite roll, because every time I go there I get something different that is incredible. I've also heard great things about the Tuna Tower. Not sure what that is, but it sounds like a tower of power. Of tuna. Maybe I'll try it next time. (wink!)

Gene and his family are the best. You won't find better sushi. They know what they're doing here. Rolls are tight, rice is sticky and good quality. Fish is always fresh. Try the tuna tower or ika sansa. I'm getting hungry.

I really love the sushi and sashimi here. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. I'm a big tea drinker and they had my green tea and Sapporo beer which is a huge plus for me. They even had Mochi but ran out of chocolate. The place is really nice inside too the outside is a little deceiving. I will be returning here again. Great experience!

We love Wild Tuna. We probably get take out from there once a week. The Route 66 is super yummy! They always have our order ready when they say and they're quick checking you out.

I saw one of the sushi makers sneeze and then he bent down under the sushi bar and blew his nose. No hand washing. Loved this place until I saw that. Won't be back, ever! Disgusting!

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. If you see Live Scallop on the special board, you must order it. It is cut into paper thin slices and served over lemon wheels in it's own shell. It's beautifully tender and mild and is the highlight of the meal. I also love their oyster shooters, even though they are difficult to drink without spilling on yourself. Still worth it. The Wild Tuna roll with fresh cilantro and jalapeño is their signature roll and a must try. The scorched scallop roll and tuna tartare are also 2 of my favorites. I always order the Malibu Mai tai and leave happy every time. The staff is very nice too.

Just tried this place for the first time today. Have had problems finding anything decent near naperville. And today I was happily surprised. Food was good, and the fish temp was correct. Really great looking hamachi (not that pink stringy garbage other sushi bars are slinging) and tasty kani (real king crab). And yea it's expensive like city prices but having eaten at 95% of those city places, I was happy with my food. I will say the service was a little slow. But the food was good enough to make up for that little glitch and I was in no hurry. So if you're looking for good sushi and you truly know quality fish rather than silly trendy rolls, I've found this and nabuki in hinsdale. And that's about it. Hope this helps. After three times, the first was great, the second barely acceptable, and finally on the third visit, I will never go back. Dried up OLD fish and a server that wanted to debate the DISGUSTING looking fish by attempting to school me on the "different cuts" - a total crock o sh!t. Any self respecting business would have taken the miserable looking OLD fish back without a word. But not this time. Now I'm the bad guy cause you got called out on serving GARBAGE. $125 later, thanks but no thanks wild tuna.

Awesome, quality, exceptional tasting fresh Sushi. The restaurant gives you the feeling of being on the television show Cheers. As you enter Wild Tuna, the ambiance is incredible and each staff member displays passion to eagerly win your approval. The owners Gene and Lena are wonderful sincere, genuine people with impeccable customer service skills. Each time you leave, you have definitely had a delightful dinning experience. Culinary Arts at its best!

Wild Tuna is my dream sushi! Haha but seriously, Wild Tuna uses the best quality sushi I've had in the area. It's very very fresh and their rolls are always inventive, the service friendly, and the environment clean and calming. The servers know their stuff.

Our visits are frequent and food is always fantastic! Was surprised to see live music last Saturday. Nice added touch! Can't say enough about the owners. They are fun, personal and very welcoming.

I really enjoy coming to wild tuna. Everything about this place is great, it's always where me and my mom end up when we go out together. The outside looks a little funny but the inside is absolutely adorable, you could totally make this place casual lunch or date night. They have a bar separate from the dinner tables and a sushi bar as well. The sushi here is always fresh!! They don't have many tempura options which is kind of a bummer because that's my favorite but definitely worth to check this place out. The service is also out of this world! They really care about you here and will give you the greatest service possible.

The family and I have gone here several time and unfortunately it has gotten progressively worst. I would have given this place 4 stars the first visit and down to 1 star our very last visit. The fish quality has declined in the times we came here, which is a shame. I remember the first few times finding it fresh and tasty (unlike what I had been getting in Green Bay, WI). I am not sure if my palette was changing or the fish was getting worse, but something changed. Even the service quality changed. When we first came, the servers were friendly and accommodating, even the owner came over and asked how were things. The last time we were there, the server told us we don't know what good tuna looks like (pale, dull pink tuna is his idea of fresh) and was told that we either eat it or we don't, but either way we had to pay for it. That was the last straw for us. I have been to a lot of places, but I never had someone be so bold to tell us that. I want to be fair in my rating, so I have taken account all the visits there. But honestly, if I had to give my recommendation, I would say to find another place.

For a place that calls themselves Wildfish Tuna, we were unfortunately served some questionable colored tuna (light brownish), and so when we asked about it, rather than trying to be accommodating, we were told by the waiter that the fish sometimes vary in color. That's fine an dandy, but we chose not to eat it, which led the waiter to go and ask the owner, and rather than being understanding, he instead yelled at us, and was VERY defensive and said that he never serves bad fish.. Well, guess who got a $5 tip... just to preface, I'm Asian and have lived on the coast of Asia eating fresh fish. AND i have been here before several times!! I'm no expert, but I know a questionable fish when I see one, and I didn't want to eat it. There was no need to come to my table and yell at us for our opinions!! Never coming here again!!

    (1)
  • Chris B.

Terrific food. Very loud inside (which I don't mind, but you can't talk to the people at your table without shouting). Very expensive for what we got. Took our family out for a birthday. The older woman owner kept watching us (we had our young granddaughter with us, who was very well behaved) and I felt unwelcome.

    (3)
  • S M.

The sashimi is not particularly fresh. It was not difficult to tell from its taste and appearance that the fish I was served had either been kept for too long, or was not stored properly. The rice is nothing to write home about either, and I found it atrocious that I was served a watery side salad that tasted like it came out of a plastic bag. On the bright side, I did enjoy the tako (octopus). But I doubt this place would hold its own in a city where people can afford to be more selective about their raw fish. And despite that, they're charging big city prices. I think Wild Tuna seems to rely more on crowd-pleasers like specialty rolls, fried foods, etc. as well as friendly service at the sushi bar itself (avoid the table service). Their menu is varied so you don't have to be a big fan of sushi to get a decent meal here.

One of my favorite sushi places on the area. I've not been even remotely disappointed having gone here many times. Staff are pleasant, food is fantastic and the location is convenient. Don't forget to get mochi!

  • Mike R.

There is no doubt this place is good and is a very nice place to go have a dinner. But this place is very expensive, and really no different than any other sushi place in the area. My favorite place for sushi that I feel is equally as good as wild tuna, is this little place in Bolingbrook called KO Sushi. I feel it is equally as good as wild tuna except for the fact Monday through Saturday 11:30 till 2 o'clock they have all-you-can-eat sushi and rolls for $19.95 ( the location is right in front of the movie theaters on Boughton Road and Weber Road ) I am the Naperville's food dude See ya !!!! and Be well

Hey Chicagoland! Gene and Lena are amazing and you should definitely come here! WHY? Because their sushi is better than ANY other place in Chicagoland. Trust me: in 6 and a half years in Chicagoland I tried almost every Japanese restaurant and sushi place within 40 miles! Plus, Gene is so sweet and even introduced us to one of his other regulars when he found out we had something in common. It's THAT kind of place. The hamachi kama is AMAZING and may or may not be on menu. Ask for it and see what he has back there. I love getting it with a side of rice. Their specialty rolls are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. And, once you get there, tell them Chad and Laura sent you. We may live in Phoenix now, but we still remember and miss our favorite sushi restaurant!

So good! I did takeout here tonight and i was so happy I did. This is a really good sushi restaurant with flare and a great atmosphere. It's always got a lot of activity on a Friday night and the food has always been great. It can get a little pricey but you don't mind paying it for the excellent quality you receive.

Great place, superb sushi and great service. We had miso soup & edamame to start both pretty good. Then had the snowflake special, spicy tuna, Skorpian maki & spider roll all excellent. Some of the best sushi i have had in a while.

  • Brad B.

This may come off as a little biased as we have been going to Wild Tuna since they opened their doors but when you blend atmosphere, food quality, quantity, service and overall experience you will not be disappointed at Wild Tuna. Gene, Lena, Susan, Erica, Jeffry, Christina and other staff that have now moved on are exceptionally well versed in what they are serving and do so with pride and a smile on their face. Even if you, don't like sushi, the bar is always filled with locals and Chef Gene always likes to create so, give him a try and he will put a smile on your face. Overall great people, food and evening out. See you Saturday Geno!

I drove 566 miles to go to Wild Tuna from good old Lombard to Naperhell. It was a lazy Saturday and we packed up the family roadster and trucked out to Naperville in search of an elusive superior sushi experience. It was 3 p.m. all the adults involved were sporting hangovers and the desire for raw fish. The lone child was hopped up on placating sugar. Hopes and desires were high, we had heard stories of the "Wild Tuna experience" and we were hungry. We sat with little formality or encouragement and ate average, at best, sushi. We had some rolls, some sashimi and maki, it was all OK. Surprising stand out: the Philadelphia roll.......what the hell does that mean??? Something that only an amateur would order was the best of it's kind.

I ordered some lunch from here off of Grub Hub. On grub hub it said delivery only and the fee was $5.99. But I decided I would pay the fee and just go and pick it up since I work close by. I figured that they would just refund me the $5.99 fee or give me a soda or two. I got to the restaurant maybe 15 mins after placing the order and the owner blew up on me and said that I am scamming him and that they don't use grub hub. I tried showing him the receipt I received via email from grub hub confirming my order but he refused to look at it and began to insult me. He was calling me stupid and that I was scamming him and he told me to even leave the restaurant! After calming him down I finally received my 3 rolls which at that point I didn't even want anymore! The food is alright but the service is hands down horrible. The owner should know what websites his food can be ordered from rather than calling a customer "stupid" and "typical american".

Great sushi! Their udon soup is heavenly delicious. Service is always great but waiting time can be a little long.

Stopped in here for lunch yesterday. A little slow on getting our order in but worth the wait. The sashimi lunch specials were a good deal. The fish quality was very good. We found the fish very fresh and visually appealing. I will definitely dine here again. The staff were friendly but distant.

Decent sushi for lunch and dinner, if you live in the area. Not worth a drive if you live outside Naperville though, which is not a diss; you can throw a rock and hit a good sushi joint out in the suburbs these days. My family likes coming here when us kids are in town. Overall, the prices are pretty reasonable. Never order rolls, they're pretty much gimmicky moneymakers for restaurants. If you really like sushi for the fish, I would stay away from any rolls that are $10 or more. Kind of ridiculous since they're mostly sauce and cooked things. The fish is relatively fresh. If you want to order something other than tuna or salmon, try the saba (mackerel). It's slightly cooked and has a stronger taste, but very good in nigiri. The softshell crab appetizer is great! Wish they would leave the stomach in since it adds a stronger crab flavor, but its nicely dressed with a ginger dressing. Don't get the softshell crab roll; it costs more and has less crab. Service is very good and with decent sushi at reasonable prices, this is a welcome Naperville staple.

Love the food here! We always come for dinner---early because if you come after 7pm it's a long wait! The sushi is what you would expect. You can go from the very typical rolls to some fancy things. They have a variety of combo plates with teriyaki. My favorite is the chicken teriyaki--it is very good and plentiful. Their shrimp tempura is excellent--my son loves it and although it's an appetizer it's enough for him as a meal. And the wait staff is well-trained. I only wish they would offer kids meals and milk or juice on the menu since lots of kids eat here.

It's been a while since my boyfriend and I had been here, and I'm glad to say that it was just as good as I remembered -- even better, in fact! This is hands down the best sushi in the Naperville area, for my money. We went on New Year's Eve, so in contrast to our last visit it was definitely hopping. We started with drinks -- mojito for him, which he really enjoyed; an individual bottle of champagne for me (New Year's!), which the waiter popped with subtle flair tableside. We ordered several rounds of sashimi and sushi. Of the sashimi, the definite favorite were the scallops, which literally melted in your mouth. I have never had better. We also had yellowtail and salmon, but after those scallops they could not compare. We had a number of rolls, the standout again being the Patty's Crabby, as last time: spicy crab and king crab. You will not be crabby after eating this, I guarantee. Other rolls we partook in included the Godzilla Maki, Spicy Tuna Maki, Spider Maki, Shiitaki Mushroom Tempura Maki, and special Torched Scallop Maki (wherein thin slices of those delicious scallops were laid over a roll and then hit with the propane torch à la creme brulée). I wouldn't kick any of them off my plate, let me tell you. Service was unbotrusive and polite, though it was hard on one occasion to catch the eye of our waiter when we were ready to order another round; he kept blowing past and attending to other tables but not glancing our way. The decor is sleek and modern, a special setting for a nice night out. Overall, this place is great for a splendid sushi meal. I'll continue to sing the praises of Wild Tuna far and wide!

We stopped by for lunch and where the ONLY table in the entire place. After our 5 rolls where served our waitress never came back to the table. We ran out of water half way through the meal and proceeded to choke down our food while waiting for her to refill our glasses. I watched our waitress filing her nails as we attempted to make eye contact with her for 30 minutes to no avail. There are too many great sushi restaurants in the north Plainfield/Naperville area with much better service to make me ever want to return here. Also it was $76 for 5 rolls, some pre packaged frozen dumplings and no drinks.

Went there for lunch and place was great! Excellent sushi and great staff. Will def be returning in the near future for dinner to take advantage of the full service bar also.

Wild Tuna is one of the best sushi places I've ever been - and I eat a lot of sushi! Their sashimi is the best around. I love the low-key atmosphere, it's never overcrowded and the service is excellent. Great carry-out service too, they're good about special requests. If you like spicy tuna, I highly recommend the spicy tuna gunkan sashimi. The wild tuna maki is also a personal favorite.

  • Rick N.

Very good sushi at a decent price. I'd like a little more variety in the rolls (no mango?) but overall definitely worth trying. Decor is very nice and the staff is courteous.

Absolutely love Wild Tuna! We have been going there since they first opened and continue to go frequently. Gene the owner makes you feel welcome every time and the staff and service never fail. The sushi is always high in quality and never disappoints as well as the cocktails (French Kiss is my fave)! Highly recommend:)

I don't normally venture out of the northern burbs for my sushi fix, but I'm glad I did with Wild Tuna! At the suggestion of some friends who live way down that way, I got in my car and trekked the hour + down to Naperthrill to enjoy a meal with friends. Wild Tuna is a cute place, but it was a little hard to get to. I can't blame them for that though, Google maps gave me bad directions. Do be aware though, the side street you turn onto to get into the strip mall is not marked. The whole time, I was looking for LaCrosse, and couldn't find it. Anyway, I digress. Onto the food. We each ordered drinks, and began perusing the menu. They offer three types of Japanese beer, Kirin, Sapporo, and one that I'd never heard of before and don't recall the name. They also have a variety of specialty cocktails and a full bar. While we were deciding on rolls, we ordered miso soup. They offer a spicy seafood miso, which was delicious. The perfect blend of spices, chock full of calamari, scallops, and shrimp instead of tofu and seaweed. Great flavor. The rolls were for the most part, a hit: Spider: Typical spider, big pieces of soft shell crab, really very good. B52: We ordered this one because it had yellowtail. It was good, but came with cream cheese when the menu did not say cream cheese. I don't dig cream cheese in sushi, so this one was a bummer, because yellowtail is my favorite. Route 66: Good, but nothing is standing out to remember. Caterpillar: The taste of the avocado on top overpowered the rest of the roll, but the avocados have been REALLY good this year, so I can't complain! Crispy Veggie: Humongous. Delicious. My favorite part was instead of tempura crunchies on the outside, they had little sweet potato crispies. Naperville: Great concept, poor execution. The flavors were good, but the roll was poorly assembled and mushy. Chicago Fire: My favorite one of the night. Perfect spice, and the daikon radish wrap instead of seaweed was an awesome touch. It was a bit pricey... after tax and tip, I think our total bill for 5 people was $200, but we did order a lot of food. We like to gorge on sushi, but only do this once in awhile. I'd definitely go back, but only if I was meeting someone down in that area.

Went there last Friday night for the first time. Although the menu's (three) were a bit overwhelming the waitress was happy to explain anything and everything to us. The sushi was awesome and the Malibu Mai Tai was excellent. Will definately go back.

Fresh, tasty and light. I thought bistro wasabi was the only good sushi spot in the suburbs. This is number 2. Eat here.

Raw like Monday night and fresh like the prince. Wild Tuna has been around for quite some time, probably because they have good sushi. Maybe even the best in our suburb. The staff is friendly, family owned if I'm not mistaken. The sushi is clean, rolled well, and moderately priced. It's fairly fresh, so ordering their Nigiri is a good way to go. Wild Tuna's a nice spot to have near by. It's no revelation, but I think one of our finest hours of raw fish.

The server was super friendly, food was amazing, AND they had the Blackhawks game on. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

What is not to love about this restaurant? Great owners, attentive staff, wonderful fresh sushi and cold beer. Yum. Best in the West.

  • Ellen M.

It's a decent little japanese restaurant, but in a stripmall in the least interesting part of Naperville, so it's not a destination if you live more than 15 minutes away (or unless there's no where close than this, if you live further west, say). It's a very small place, and I assumed we'd be in for a long wait in a crowded dining room, but on a Saturday night it was practically dead. We waited ten minutes for a table, then only saw about three parties enter the restaurant once we were seated. That all said, the food was ok but not amazing. For starters we shared calamari, tempura vegetables, a sad "mixed green" salad with only iceburg lettuce (plus a couple pieces of cucumber, tomatoes and shredded carrot). I'd do the tempura vegetables again but the calamari looked like a plate of onion rings and I didn't enjoy the texture (my spouse like it though). The sushi was pretty good though - we shared two rolls with raw ingredients - an unagi and a yellowtail topped with spicy tuna. Not the freshest, most delicious I've ever had, but also not the most expensive. I enjoyed the house cold sake. Mochi for dessert. Total bill was about $60 before gratuity. Service was attentive - no complaints, except the sushi was brought out very soon after the appetizers, and I like a little break in-between. I don't like letting sushi just sit there for long - you know what I'm saying? For higher-quality sushi in the suburbs, I'd recommend Blu Coral in Woodridge, but it's pricier. This place is moderately priced and very casual - I'd stop in for carry-out sushi if I were in the area.

I prefer this place rather than Sushi House in downtown Naperville. Their sushi is always fresh and beautifully prepared. The service is pretty attentive. My boyfriend and I have never had any issues coming here and we come about two to three times a month. If you don't need the frills, glitz and glamour of a downtown spot and you just want awesome fresh sushi, just come here!

  • Chad L.

This place is always good for us. You can dump pretty serious money here but if you stay off the specials menu, you can eat very reasonably and they are the only ones in Naperville without overly salty miso soup. We love the maki rolls and the staff. Gene and his wife are great and Susan has always been a fun, sassy waitress. Come here to have fun with the staff, especially for lunch on weekends and you won't leave disappointed. Sit at the sushi bar and ask Gene to make you something special- he won't disappoint. We've moved but we miss our Wild Tuna trips. I hope you all are doing well. Oh and if they have Hamachi Kama (you have to ask- get it!)

  • Avni S.

This place has always been great but the last two visits put it at the top with their service- it may just be the same waiter each time but I really enjoyed these visits. The waiter was fast and excellent suggestions for us... We ordered four rolls with some sashimi and filled us up to the brim. The drinks were excellent as I got a martini and my BF got a glass of whiskey. Dessert was out of the question as were both really full but I always like the special touch of the orange cut into wedges after ever meal. Overall everything was great, I can't complain about one thing!

I have been meaning to write this for several months, so it is LONG overdue. My apologies to our friends at Wild Tuna for not doing this sooner. Simply put, Wild Tuna serves the best sushi in the Chicagoland area, bar none. The location kind of sucks being way the heck out in a remote corner of the property-tax land-grab that is Naperville but it is worth the trip. When I say it is the best, what I mean is that it serves the best fish in the city. I have been to about 50 different sushi restaurants in Chicago alone. I have even been to one of the finest high end Japanese restaurants in the country, L20. L20 certainly has amazing ingredients and exceptional talent, but for my money, outside of San Francisco or Japan, Wild Tuna is the best place to go if you simply want to actually taste fish. Because of the proprietors expertise and his willingness to take the time to find it, Wild Tuna can offer a variety of the subtle tastes that set all the different fish apart and that make sushi the art that it is. When I want sushi, I don't want crab stick and cocktail shrimp slathered in cream cheese and rolled into rice. I want fish. Rolls have their place, for sure, and you won't suffer for high quality, creative rolls (even those abominations with cream cheese) at Wild Tuna. However, you absolutely must go there if you want to taste the fish. The guy knows his stuff. The live scallop is absolutely amazing (just make sure to get it without the lemon!)...and get there early because he runs out of them fast (as should happen anywhere that is providing quality fish). His kampachi is also rare and unique in the Midwest. Don't be shy, ask them to make you something special and they will...and it will be amazing. And if sushi is not exactly your thing, they have some other great dishes too. One of our favorites is an unagi tempura that they serve as an appetizer. It is just wonderful, mostly because of the amazing sauce that they drizzle over it. Finally, unlike most sushi bars, Wild Tuna's sake selection is actual pretty decent and dynamic. At Wild Tuna you won't find the same, recycled Gekkeikan that you can get at the grocery store...not that there won't be any Gekkeikan products there, it will simply be their better stuff. You can find nice variety to fit all tastes and all budgets at Wild Tuna. After all, what is sushi without good quality, chilled sake! If you want to really taste the wonderful subtleties that are the reasons why sushi bars offer more than one variety of fish or even if you just want some really good rolls, you have to give Wild Tuna a try!

A little pricey but really good sushi-Susan's maki is the best! They also have gluten free soy sauce available for my bubble boy husband which he really appreciates.

Got 3 rolls as take out tonight because my man and I were craving sushi. It was really tasty and each roll was unique. I'd recommend the Wild Tuna Maki with the cilantro sauce...DELICIOUS! Also the Spider Roll and Philadelphia roll. The portions were perfect for the two of us and the prices were reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

Great Saturday night date in the burbs! We tried Wild Tuna on friends' recommendations and it didn't disappoint. The strip mall location really doesn't do the place justice but it is a nod to the Naperville landscape. Hey, you're in the suburbs, embrace it. We waltzed in at 6:45 p.m. and there was no wait but a comfortably full restaurant. Perfect. The place is cozy and much less flashy than Shinto, another Naperville fav. They have one bathroom for the ladies but since the place is pretty small it wasn't a problem. The bathroom itself was lovely and modern. I've been in some sushi places nearby where they use the bathrooms for extra storage so I appreciated the attention to the diner experience. The menu isn't huge but we found plenty to keep us happy. The shumai appetizer came with 8 pieces, which I like. Some places give you 5 for the same price ($5.50). We ordered a bunch of nigiri (hamachi, unagi, maguro), negi hamachi, avocado tuna, california, and the godzilla. It was a good blend of the heavy, cream cheese and fried godzilla and the lighter stock rolls. The nigiri was fresh and generously portioned. The prices weren't crazy high but this is no bargain. It cost us $62 for dinner without any alcohol... I'm willing to pay what they charge for the quality, atmosphere and service. Our service was fast and our server was friendly and spoke English fluently. She did leave dirty plates and wrappers and towelletes on our table for an unforgivably long time though... dropping off drinks but not picking up the dirty stuff. Kinda strange of her to ignore the trash on our table. We finally put it on another table that was about to be bussed, just to get it away from our newly arrived food. But that's not a deal breaker. Overall, it was a nice 4-star field trip to a new restaurant (for us). I'm sure we'll go back.

I ate here back in March. I still think about how great the eel heaven maki was to this day. It's an unagi lovers dream! Tempura eel inside and then topped with more eel. MMMMM... so delicious. I really hope they still offer it. I would definitely go back just for that. We also tried a maki with a ginger sauce, that was also delicious. I don't remember the name, and the website is down, so I have no reference. :-( All in all, it's a great place for sushi.

Wild Tuna is now my favorite sushi in the area, I used to be a big fan of Kiku, don't get me wrong Kiku is still great but Wild Tuna is better. Wild Tuna has a vast menu and if you do not see it on the menu just ask and they will make it for you. On more than one occasion they whipped up something special that was not on the menu. They have some amazing rolls and what I love about their rolls is they are not smoothered in sauce like some of the other sushi places do, just enough of whatever special sauce to give you a hint of the taste. Also if you have a friend or spouse that can not eat sushi insist they try Wild Tuna, they have a roll called Crispy Vegetable Maki and it is delicious, I am a sushi eater and I sometimes order this amazing vegetarian roll, it is that good. They have several good vegetarian rolls other than the typical and boring "california" roll. Lately I have been going with some of their noodle dishes, yum.

This is my favorite place to come to when I am craving sushi. All the sushi here is fresh, colorful, and perfectly prepared. I've been here over a dozen times and it is always consistent. The service is great, and the place is clean. My favorite is the Dragon fire roll.....rice wrapped around a tempura shrimp and covered with spicy tuna. I also like the tuna tartare, and the sashimi tuna with jalapenos and ponzu for appetizers. You guys have said it all, so I won't bore you with another good review. Go on in, you won't be disappointed.

We like it here as much for the atmosphere as the food. There might be better sushi out there, but overall Wild Tuna is consistent in food and service. We had great service on this visit. The spider roll was particularly good, as was the Yellowfin sashimi. A new one we tried was the vegetable tempura sushi roll. It was quite nice - sweet potato tempura wrapped up in a sushi roll with just a kick of spice. I say there might be better sushi, because Taka Sushi has been getting great reviews. However, we walked in, and walked right out of Taka. As good as people are saying the sushi is at Taka, there's no ambiance. it's a fish market that sells reportedly good sushi. We go for sushi and we want the whole experience, like we get at Wild Tuna. So, I won't write a review on Taka because we didn't eat there, and it'd be unfair to rate it. We'll stick to Wild Tuna.

It is about time I wrote a review about Wild Tuna. This is my all-time favorite place, and serves as the benchmark that I judge other (comtemporary) sushi joints. I have had rolls that equal or exceed that of Wild Tuna, but their entire specialty menu is items I regularly enjoy, especially the Naperville, Mango Tango, Snow Mountain and Lobster. Their Sushi fish and Sashimi is also excellent, and Gene's guys always have artful and careful presentation, no matter what the dish. I'd say my dad and I are regulars and they always treat us well, when we ask for something special, he puts something together, and (occasionally) something gets put on the house. He's a very good man. Other things I enjoy Diamond shrimp appetizer, The house hot green tea, The miso soup, salad, the Ice Cream (try the Green Tea and Red Bean if you're adventurous). Overall, I think it is the only sushi restaurant in Naperville worth going to more than once.

My husband and I found this place on accident, and loved it! We ordered sushi to start with and when it came we were stunned to see how big the maki rolls were. I have been eating sushi since I was 12 and this was some of the best I have had in years! My husband also tried and loved every thing. By the time we were done with the maki we were both full and we only ordered 4 rolls! Dinner was great and we were both sorry we could not finish ours. The service was great. With being as packed as it was we did not wait long for anything, and the people working every time we are there are very nice. The price is whet you would pay at the places I go to in the city so it did not bother me but my husband winced a little at the bill but thought back to the sushi and paid it without any sigh that it bothered him. It is always wonderful to go there and have a wonderful night out!

A friend and I went here for lunch a couple of days ago. The server, whom I found out was the owner, was crabby and borderline rude. Not a great start for our meal. When she came to get our order, we asked for more time to look over the menu. Subsequently, she either forgot about us or chose to ignore us for the next 30 minutes. I ordered the lunch special that had 3 pieces of sushi and a Boston maki I picked out of 5 different kinds to choose from. My lunch partner ordered a soft shell crab maki, salmon sashimi, and a spicy salmon sushi. When we finally got our orders, they were room temperature. Shouldn't raw fish be served cold? They were also either flavorless or smothered in sauce. My lunch special also came with some tempura'd veggies that were covered with a very thick batter, were greasy, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. There are many other sushi places in the area that can do a better job. What a major disappointment.

Wild Tuna is my place to go when I'm craving sushi in the suburbs. LOVE IT! I am a purist. Sashimi only, and I'm not happy if the restaurant doesn't serve uni (sea urchin). Wild Tuna not only has uni regularly, but it is as fresh and sweet as it comes. They often have select features like Amber-Jack or fatty tuna. My bf is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but he loves the chicken yakitory and beef udon bowl. The service is always stellar and Gene, owner/chef will make you anything (he crafted a handroll with cucumber instead of seaweed and rice for me!). Bottom line: ignore that it's tucked away in a strip mall, the food is very good, the fish is SO FRESH, the rolls are creative, and the service is absolutely wonderful.

This place is down the street from my parent's house and for years Mama T and I have neglected to try it. We FINALLY did this weekend. The sushi was decent, nothing spectacular. Almost your typical run-of-the-mill suburban sushi joint. Though I really did enjoy the sashimi roll, and the sushi rice was very good and extra fresh. The rolls are stuffed to capacity. Mama T and I were full to the max after four rolls and a seaweed salad. And don't let our small size fool you, we can eat. There seems to be a great local following here. I noticed that the waitresses, hostesses, etc. seemed very friendly with a bunch of people which I have determined to be devout, regular customers. Kinda cute I guess, if you're in to that mushy nonsense. I'll come back here if I'm in the area and there's a sushi emergency. This place is still way better than that disastrous establishment across the street known as Tokyo Bay.

In February( or was it March?), I tagged along with some friends and we drove all the way from Chicago to Naperville just to try Wild Tuna's menu. Restaurant's kind of small but I like the layout of the station where the sushi, sashimi, and etc was made. We ordered a bunch of rolls. I liked them all~ not salty when compared to other shops I've dined at. The salmon skin roll was really good! To sum it up, the service was excellent, food was amazing(!), and the atmosphere = super friendly. This place was totally worth the long drive.

I am sorry to say that I found a long hair rolled into my maki roll. It was take out and I was many miles away when I found it. The restaurant looked nice inside, but the hair in my food was really was a deal breaker for me. I will not be back.

I have been searching for a good sushi spot in the Naperville/Bolingbrook area for almost 8 months. I've driven past Wild Tuna almost daily on my way to and from the Metra station, but finally decided to go tonight. I was very pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, service, and food. All were absolutely great and this will be my sushi restaurant of choice going forward. When I pulled up to Wild Tuna my expectations are low because it's in a strip mall and the outside of the restaurant looks pretty plain-jane. But once I walked in I was greeted by a small but modern dining area, beautiful and fully stocked bar, and sushi bar. The place didn't look anything like I expected based on the outside. The hostesses and wait staff were extremely nice and although we didn't have a reservation and they said it would be 15-20 minutes, we were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered the edamame and fried calamari for appetizers, and the red dragon and spicy tuna maki for dinner. The red dragon was absolutely delicious! I couldn't believe it was so good, fresh, and filling. The spicy tuna (which is a standard order for me) was also delish. I will be ordering both of those rolls again the next time I go back. My dinner companion had the salmon teriyaki dinner box and she enjoyed her food as well. We snuck in a couple of drinks, the Wild Cosmo and Limon Mojito, and both were tasty. So, all in all, it was a great meal. The food and drinks are slightly expensive, but I guess it is worth it for good food that you can trust. I will be a regular at this place because I love good sushi and if nothing else, they can provide me with that fix.

OVERPRICED and average tasting sushi. Ordered sushi for 2 adults and a kid to go- cost nearly $100 for some miso, a few rolls, and some individual pieces. The rolls were uncreative and somewhat bland tasting. had one with tempura mixed in the middle with the fish- all you can taste is a dry tempura flavor- very poorly executed. The hamachi was excel;lent and the tuna was very good, although the salmon was flavorless. Definitely better sushi places for both taste and value in the area. We will not be returning

Just went there for lunch today. The sushi was extremely fresh and the service was excellent. Since this was my first time eating here, I kind of kept it safe. We ordered the soft shell crab appetizer, spicy tuna, california, negihama, philadelphia, spider and rainbow maki. The rainbow maki is a must have. I forgot to order the tuna tartare. I can't wait to go back to try it. I think all sushi places are pricey if there are no specials. Our total came up to $95, plus $20 tax = $115. That price includes two beers and three glasses of wine.

We tried Wild Tuna for lunch on Sunday. I was surprised by the very contemporary chic decor considering it is located in a strip mall. The sushi was super fresh and very well done. We tried the Rainbow Roll, California Maki, Tuna Maki, and one other that I can't recall. Skip the Japanese Spring Rolls; nothing special. I'd love to try their extensive cocktail menu next time. We will definitely be back!

My sister lives in Aurora and when I go visit, this is the only sushi place we go anymore. It's fresh, friendly staff, quick & delicious. It's a little pricey, but when it comes to sushi I'd rather spend the extra dough.

We eat here every other week, with kids. On the positive: + Very friendly and quick service + Soy paper available + always fresh and tasty Room For Improvement - - Dining room is one big room with tables close together. Some options for private seating (i.e. areas to wrangle your kids) would be appreciated. Good sushi spot for the Bolingbrook/Plainfield/Naperville suburbs.

Excellent local place for sushi. Fish is FRESH! Started with pork dumplings - smoking hot with a tasty sauce. Smoked salmon roll was very good - light taste of smoke and not fishy. Highly recommend the shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna. Staff is friendly and answered all our questions. Highly recommend.

The last two times I ordered out from here I had to throw about half of my meal away because they did not clean their knives or mats properly and my veggie rolls were covered in tiny orange fish roe. I'm normally pick, when pregnant I am a religious zealot when it comes to my food. They also charged us but did not include our extra soup and rice, something my husband refused to go back for, said it was too crazy in there. Definitely not going back here anytime soon.

I love Wild Tuna. The owner, Gene, is there nightly rolling sushi with the rest of the guys--and the wait staff are all very nice too. The sushi and rolls are awesome. And here is the secret to getting great food. Ask Gene just to make you special stuff off the menu. He puts his heart into it and you get some really tasty salad or rolls that way. I've been there dozens of times and enjoyed every single one of them. I do not think they are trying to pretend they are a Chicago sushi bar, I mean--they are practically in Plainfield--but they are trying to be one of the best suburb sushi places. I like them better than Kiku and Domo 77 but think that Wild Tuna unfortunately is such a small space they are limited in that way.

My vegan friend and I went to dinner at Wild Tuna. Don't start with a salad. We did and my lettuce was soggy because there was so much sesame dressing, which tasted like peanut butter. The edamame was good. But, how do you butcher that!!! There were lots of options if you are vegan. We had shittake mushroom rolls, potato tempura rolls, some kind of beets, and the list goes on. We had five different kinds for 3.50-5.50/roll. Great price. Lots of variety. The environment is kind of lame. Bright room, simple tables, kind of boring. There is no romance in this room, so if you have a hot date, go somewhere else. Go there. Don't eat the salad. Try the vegetarian rolls.

Completely overpriced!!! I've eaten here twice (and I'm really not sure why I came back the second time). I didn't drink either time, and our bill averaged over $40 per person, and we left unsatisfied! I think I'm spoiled with decent priced and decent quality sushi in Chicago because of the heavy competition. I could have gotten twice the amount of food elsewhere for what we paid at Wild Tuna! The restaurant is pretty small, and the tables are really close together, you're practically sitting on top of the next table. The servers bump everything as they try to maneuver between the tables. The waiting area is even smaller than the dining room, and it is a really uncomfortable space. They do a HORRIBLE job of turning tables as I did not see any table bussers. The servers were doing everything! At one point, half of the restaurant had dirty dishes on them after people had left, and they just couldn't keep up cleaning off the tables! GET MORE HELP and lower your prices! There just needs to be more sushi competition in the area so people like Wild Tuna can stop taking advantage of consumers with their outrageous prices!!!

My hubby and I have tried just about every sushi place in the Chicagoland area. Wild Tuna has them all beat. Why? Because their sushi is fresh and they have some great specialty rolls. Marty likes things hot, so Gene will make things extra hot for him. I like things sweeter, so Gene will make things sweeter for me. It's great that they get to know their customers so well that they know what we like. Lena makes fantastic martinis and Susan is a fabulous server and will talk me through anything new I might want to try. She knows when we walk in the door to get an order of gomai going and she'll know whether I'll like a special if I ask about it because she remembers the things I like and don't. Service is great, food and drinks are fabulous. LOVE THEM!!!

I was pleasantly surprised. For some reason I've always been nervous about eating sushi at a new place - especially a strip mall in the suburbs, but this was great. The food was great (sorry - don't remember what i had), and the atmosphere was nice. I will definitely go again!

Not bad. Not Great. It's pretty average. I've never actaully eaten inside the resturant so I can't really comment on that but I do know that this place is pretty pricey. Hopefully they will get some competition that will help drive their prices down to a more reasonable rate.

If you are looking for great sushi in Naperville then don't overlook this strip mall gem! I have been going to WT for a few years now and their food is consistent and fantastic. The quality is always present and service at the bar exceeds expectation. I look past the decor, which is just okay. The sushi makes up for it. Get the maki. It is what they are known for and it is worth it!

We have been going there for a few years now since it opened, and it is a weekly ritual for us (conveniently located 5 mins away from home :-). We live the variety of unbelievable rolls and especially the oyster shooters!!!! Lobster maki, the pozu sashimi and the crabby dragon are very good. My 5 & 8 year olds practically grew up there :-)

I must say I have never seen this place until today even though I eat at tang dynasty right next-door. Two words VERY GOOD! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and the staff. It's not a downtown naperville location but the food is worth the hike down 59.

The Wild Tuna...sushi in the burbs. Hmmmm..... I always approach suburban sushi places with caution. How in the world could a sushi place have fresh ingredients if they don't have good positive turnover? Well, Naperville does have enough people visiting it now for eating, but this place is quite a long way from any of the other eating areas. But they do just fine for turn over. Most times we've gone in there it's got a good amount of people eating their sushi. I think the lunchtime specials are some of the better values. Your choice of sushi with soup and salad...all at a decent price. The quality is fairly consistently good, although once in a while they really turn out a fantastic product. So far I haven't been disappointed. I did however get a kick out of one of the sushi chef's, Andy. We had asked him for a special roll...we had a taste for something particular and described what we wanted. He really did a good job interpreting our needs. When we asked him how we would order this roll again when we come in, he responded that we could call it Andy maki. LOL, I got the impression he couldn't help but name every special roll after himself. happy eating! dan

My wife and I tried this place out this past weekend and really enjoyed it. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The place has a good atmosphere with one half being just tables and giving it the feel of a lunch or early dinner location, while the other half is a bar that feels more like a night spot. We will be eating lots of sushi here.

This isn't the best sushi I've ever had but it's definitely the best I've had in the Naperville/Aurora area. Overall, though, it as an above par suburban sushi place. And it's a good place to take a mixed group of folks--there's plenty of cooked fish as well as raw. I think there's even a steak! Anyway, I've been here a couple of times and had an enjoyable experience. Prompt, friendly service. Attentive pre-bussing of tables (big bonus points for me). A fun selection of sushi rolls. A good experience!

Love this place and it is so close to me that it is dangerous! i would eat here every day if I could. Love the food and the atmosphere, they recently redid the inside and it looks great, much less crowded than it used to be. A bit pricey but well worth it for the great food. I get take out a lot here and it is ready promply when you come to pick it up. Only reason i don't give it five stars is the price, just wish I coudl afford to eat here more often! Try the tuna tower as an app that eats like a meal, so delicious!

  • K M.

I love a good sushi joint, so with all the positive yelpers, I couldn't wait to give this place a try. I was really disappointed with the service (I felt like the waitstaff was rushing me to kick me out the door, and when I asked for recommendations, they were very condescending as if I didn't know what sushi was) as well as the food. It was really overpriced - $18 for a 6-piece roll, which was not as good as the same, half-priced dish at other local sushi restaurants. I usually order 6-8 rolls for dinner for 2, but after the first two we ordered were bland, small, and inexperiencedly made, we took the check and went to another, more accommodating spot. Sushi is one of my favorite foods, and this place is the closest to my house. I was really looking forward to a great place close by, but this was nothing I wanted. When I want good sushi, I'll drive 10 miles before returning to this disappointing experience.

The best new sushi anywhere near Naperville. The head chef and owner has years of experience at some of the big name sushi places in downtown Chicago. He opened this place to be closer to home. The quality and portions are the best that I have seen anywhere in 'burbs. The location is in a strip mall, but it has a nice atmosphere. This is not he place for show. This is the place for GOOD SUSHI. Bring your wallet. It is not cheap. Some of the help from Sakura have migrated to this place. Special requests are always welcomed. Try this place and you will not be disappointed. (I could not find the exact address. It is physically located on Rt 59 just south of 95th St on the east side, south of Dominick's Grocery).

Went here for lunch with some friends a few months ago and got very fresh sashimi. My personal favorite is the salmon, so anything made with it is good to me! The owner, who is also a chef, came and introduced himself to us before bringing out the entrees. He gave us a calamari appetizer on the house which was excellent! The only reason for a 4/5 is because of the price. If numbers don't mean much to you, then you'd probably give a 5/5, but for the rest of us normal people, having this every week might be a bit heavy on the pocket book. In the end, you get what you pay for, and what you get is quality!

convenient for south naperville. Food is good-- suchi as good as anywhere in the area. convenient for takeout. strip mall location is a detractor. service is excellent-- nice people including owner, waitstaff, bar. Maybe a tad overpriced but it is naperville

I am sorry that I have to give this place three stars, but it is really nothing to write home about. Granted I am lucky to have pretty decent sushi in Seattle, and amazingly good sushi in Denver/Boulder. The first time I came here with my family I went with a full array of rolls. The best thing I ordered would have to be the Toro handroll. Nice thick sashimi pieces laid delicately on rice, rolled in seaweed. The Super Crunchy roll was horrendous. There was some strange coating of crunchy balls sticking to the outside of what could have been a fair roll. The tempura was nice and simple and the other rolls I ordered were typically middle of the road. I got the usual Caterpilar, Spider, Rainbow, and Unagi assortment and I can't really remember any of it. The next time I went I decided to order the Toro handroll again and this time it was horrible! They had diced up the toro and mixed it with what seemed to be mayonnaise, so it became a glorified tuna salad. Yuck! I also went with their Prawn grill dinner which comes out on a hot stone. Everything lacked any kind of flavor, especially the vegetables. I wish there was better sushi in Naperville and I think Sushi House is at least a step above, especially in dcor. Le Sigh.

This was the worst sushi I have had in this area. By far. The sushi was not fresh . The service was even worse. The only positive was the restaurant appearance looked good. But if you are like me and go to restaurants for the food and not the ambiance you might want to skip this one.

Okay, so I have a little bias towards this place since the owner is my uncle, but seriously, this is the best place for sushi in Naperville. I have tried the other sushi places in Naperville pre-Wild Tuna days and it doesn't compare. There is great business, which means a fresh cut of fish everytime.

I'm not very adventurous with Sushi, but I love my Philadelphia Maki and Alaskan Maki. The serves at time can be a little slow, but very kind. I loved the environment of the restaurant until they remodel it. Now I don't understand the flow of the two very distinct areas. Can be a little pricey but I feel it's worth it.

Let me start with the bad part. My wife thought the Unagi (eel) was just slightly overdone... Ok, that is the only remotely bad thing I have to say about my dining experience. The place is in a strip mall on Route 59, but don't let that deter you. The place is very small, seats about 25ish and simply decorated. There is a small waterfall by the door and pleasant music playing in the background. When we walked in we were happy to notice a very fresh, clean smell. We sat at the sushi bar which has about 7-8 seats. Our first order included: 1 spicy king crab roll, 1 spicy tuna roll, 1 shrimp tempura roll, unagi sushi, and albacore sushi. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. The spicy crab roll had a little heat, and they said that their spicy items usually do. So if you are someone who does not like very spicy items I would let them know. I love spicy, so I was adding wasabi. You would think the above list would be enough for two people, but after talking to the owner (who was one of 3 people making the sushi) and eyeing the tuna I could not resist ordering another tempura shrimp roll and the tuna sashimi. The tuna was fresh and just melted in your mouth. The owner said this place gets crowded at times and I certainly see why. We went early evening on a Sunday and had no problem getting in. I have tried 3 other sushi places since moving here and this place is by far the best. I will be back soon. We also saw several people picking up to go orders if you live nearby and can't dine in.

I am sorry to say that I found a long hair rolled into my maki roll. It was take out and I was many miles away when I found it. The restaurant looked nice inside, but the hair in my food was really was a deal breaker for me. I will not be back.

  • Kyung P.

  • Christine P.
